And this one you can see that my flying geese are not the same size. The one on the right is smaller and doesn't come to the edge. Some of my other flying geese blocks are better. And some of the blocks of starsdon't have the parts that come in contact with the square in the middle looking as good as this one and even in this one you can see that the on the middle bottom doesn't line up as it should

Ruth - Congratulations on posting the pictures!! I think your blocks look great, you will never see any problems in those blocks once they are all together in a quilt top That is a pretty sampler quilt pattern. The instructor did a good job on fabric choices, since they are very "classic" and go well together. Are you going to finish it? I look forward to seeing many pictures of your projects now Phyl - Good luck with going through the magazines. I had a "million" of them too and just took some time each day to look through they and tore out the pages with patterns or pictures that I really liked and then got rid of the rest. Fortunately I had a friend at that time that was starting quilting and was happy to take the magazines I was done with. Whenever I buy a magazine nowadays I read it and tear out the patterns I like right away and through the rest out so I don't get that buildup again. I bought a Brother cs7000i. My machine that is broken is the Brother cs6000i, so the new one is just an updated model. This is a very basic machine but it has all I need. I would never use all the other things on a more expensive machine and I've been very happy with the one I've had all these years. I hope the new model works just as well. Everything I had for the old machine will work on the new one, so it's nice not to have to make any additional feet/bobbin purchases.

Nice job posting pics Ruth! Like CJ- I post from my IPAD- which can take pictures from my phone if necessary. How nice that you are considering making a quilt for dh. There are many simple to learn patterns which would be easy for you to master.
CJ- congrats on the new machine! May it serve you well for many many years. Have fun with it.
Phyl- congrats to Caroline. Pharmacy is a challenging major for sure....thanks for the heads up on the memory medications. Guess there is no sense wasting money on them.
DD came over, good visit with her. Went out this am to pick up a live catch mouse trap. Gotta be careful with what I put out as I do not want the kitten to get hurt. Ds came home from work and we pulled out the stove. Momma mouse had made a nest in the bottom of the stove body- and she has been tough to catch. Been cleaning up and trying to figure out where she is. The kitten seems to know where she is.....and is intent on finding the mouse.
Have a good night all G

evening, Ruth, when I looked at The sampler quilt today, I thought what pretty wall hanging it would make.someday I hope it to make a Christmas quilt for one of our beds.
my flying geese do not always look the same size either. some quilters (like me) have a hard time with flying geese. other quilters do not understand why we do.
thank you for explaining the machines CJ. phyl

CJ, it sounds like you got a great machine. Especially since it's the same make and basically the same model as the one you had and you can use everything from the old machine for the new one. I sure can understand why you were attached to the old one. After saving up the money it meant a lot to you.And thank you for your kind comments on my blocks.I can't wait to see your new pictures tomorrow of the quilts you machine quilted today.
Ginny, it sounds like you had a nice day with your dd.I hope you catch momma mouse. We don't have pets so we put mouse poison and glue traps where we think the mice can come in. We haven't caught many mice on the glue traps but we caught a lot of moths and spiders. For some reason we have a lot of spiders.
Thank you Phyl. It's wonderful that your great neice became so well educated in pharmacology. She must be a very intelligent young woman. For the flying geese I did cheat. The owner of the shop where the classes were held showed us a little tool for making them.I bought one and used it. If I make them again I'll have to find a video on how to use it. They didn't have youtube back then so I had to rely on reading directions and trying to remember how she showed us. I'm not good at directions.yes this quilt top is a wall hanging size. I have no idea how you hang them but again, youtube to the rescue. If I ever finish it it will go great in my living room

Good morning, Phyl is right- there are lots of different ways to hang quilts. They make hangers that are sort of like presser bars, which go along the upper edge of the quilt (eliminating the need for a sleeve or tabs). I have saved a youtube of putting tabs on a quilt- which you would slip a rod through. think that is a lovely idea to make a Christmas quilt, and yes the quilt Ruth posted would sure be nice for that. Do you have any pattern in mind to make a Christmas quilt? And if I missed your post or forgot, how did you feel after your second vaccine?
Ruth, you did not cheat at all making those flying geese! There are several rulers on sale now to assist with flying geese- so its not cheating at all! Honestly, most of us do not scrutinize a quilt looking to see that the one flying geese (goose?) is larger or smaller than the other. Every quilt has flaws- what you posted are just so pretty! If these blocks were a part of a larger piece think no one would notice or care about small imperfections, but just see a really pretty quilt top. CJ was spot on commenting that your instructor picked out really classic fabric combinations.... I hope that taking out these blocks inspires you to do more quilting. Take inspiration from that pretty table topper CJ posted 2 days ago, or the panel quilts. Quilting can just be stunning and simple placement of pretty fabrics that work together to create something beautiful.
CJ- I figure by now you have taken out your new brother machine!!! So very excited for you. You have earned this machine for sure and we look forward to hearing about and seeing your projects. Hope that the learning curve for this machine is minimal, and that you do not have to re-learn how to make bobbins and thread. It does seem that manufacturers try to make threading and bobbins a constant for their product line. Bet you are excited to open that box and start sewing!!!!
Sue, I know you check in from time to time.....we miss hearing from you and hope you are doing well. I remember that your DGD was going for a third opinion for her treatment, which, Lord willing, provided good clarity and an effective action plan for her treatment.
Got no idea where the mother mouse is. Think after church I will clean out the cabinet next to the stove which has no food in it, but the kitten was acting strangely around it. I cannot use poison for the mouse, as I would then be concerned about the safety of the two cats. Perhaps I will get another small havahart trap (fortunately they sell for $5 and are easy to set) and hope that they and my 4 legged have no heart trap get the job done.
I did show Dd the baby quilt top, which is done. She loved it! I am waiting for the long armer to answer my questions about using her to long arm it....she does beautiful work but has had issues with her 20 year old long arming machine. I figure today I will crochet or perhaps do some practice quilting. My friends FIL’s memorial service will be broadcast on the internet this afternoon, which i want to view. Think the weather is supposed to stink then - so I won’t mind sitting and watching the service while I crochet.
Have a great day. Ginny
