Thanks for the reminder, Cathy. I did forget that this starts on a whole new day, and had forgotten to set a reminder for myself.
5 Things to Do Every Day to Keep Your Heart Healthy Breathe easier by following these good habits
You know that exercise and a good diet can keep your heart healthy. But what else can you do to keep your ticker going strong? Here, cardiothoracic surgeon Marc Gillinov, MD, recommends five key things you need to do every day to help your heart work most efficiently. Incorporate these habits into your lifestyle and your heart health will be the best it can be for you.
Eat healthy fats, NOT trans fats. We need fats in our diet, including saturated and polyunsaturated and unsaturated fats. One fat we donβt need is trans fat, which is known to increase your risk of developing heart disease or having a stroke over a lifetime. This is because trans fat clogs your arteries by raising your bad cholesterol levels (LDL) and lowering your good cholesterol levels (HDL). By cutting them from your diet, you improve the blood flow throughout your body. So, what are trans fats? They are industry-produced fats often used in packaged baked goods, snack foods, margarines and fried fast foods to add flavor and texture. TIP: Read the labels on all foods. Trans fat appears on the ingredients list as partially hydrogenated oils. Look for 0 percent trans fat. Make it a point to avoid eating foods with trans fat.
Is there anything you eat that still has trans fats in it? Do you check the ingredient list of the ready made things you buy? Do you have a favorite ready made food that you can't always resist when you're grocery shopping, or something that you used to get but not any more?

I don't think that I eat anything now that has much trans-fat in it.
I often check the ing list on foods that I buy, especially if it is something that I don't buy often.
No longer, do I buy packaged cookies or other snack foods (cup cakes, candy, etc). I f I have those foods at home, I can't seem to stay out of them, so it is easier if I just leave them at the store.

Not many things I can think of. I checked nutrition info on-line for a few things I thought might have it - Pillsbury crescent rolls, frozen tater tots (not things I eat often, but...thought those might have some)...and none had any trans fats. I do wonder if some might have minute amounts that fall under the threshold for needing to be on the label?
I'm more likely to be looking at labels for nutrients (sodium, for example) but for something I don't usually buy, will look at ingredients too.
There are some things that used to be appealing that are not anymore, most quite a long time in the past. Pop-tarts and Little Debbie brownies come to mind. Hmm...just realized the pandemic has changed a food habit. Sometimes when my husband went to put fuel in the vehicles at the convenience store, he'd also pick up a a couple of donuts to bring home . Because of the pandemic, they don't sell individual, self-serve items...so we haven't had donuts in a year (and I didn't even think of it until now!)

Is there anything you eat that still has trans fats in it? I don't think so? We usually use olive oil if we use any at all. Most everything we eat is fresh or not processed. I am not sure about the peanut butter...would need to double check...don't think there is any in the bread, either.
Do you check the ingredient list of the ready made things you buy? Rarely? We don't go to the shop during the pandemic, or not often, I used to check them every time we tried something new.
Do you have a favorite ready made food that you can't always resist when you're grocery shopping, or something that you used to get but not any more? There were BEFORE the pandemic because we would shop the aisles in the supermarket. Shopping in small village stores makes it a LOT easier!
I used to get candy...usually caramel or a snickers bar. BUT, not for a LONG time!

I don't think I eat anything with trans fats, but I do check ingredient lists for things that I seldom buy. And those things trans fats are one of the things I check for. That's one of the reasons I make my own bread, it doesn't have a long ingredient list and there's nothing I can't pronounce. Sometimes I'll get a loaf of French bread or other long slim breads, slice them up and freeze them and sometimes have a couple of slices with my meal. Those I usually get at the store bakery.
I do get a couple of bags of Dove chocolate Promises, as I often eat a couple at the end of the day. They seem to top of the day, and I usually try to stick to only two. I do pick up a bag of Doritos sometimes. I keep them on the top of my fridge near the back so I'm not tempted so often. I like them especially in the summer when I have fresh tomatoes and make salsa. I've been pretty good about staying out of them, and I'll maybe have some about once a week or less. I also keep the portions to about an ounce.
