People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Enough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.

Good morning friends.
I had asked the buyer of our home if she was interested in the grill. She said no so I listed it on Marketplace and have had many wanting it. It’s a nice little Weber gas grill with cover and LP tank. Someone will pick it up later today and others are being told it’s pending and if it’s not taken I’ll contact you.
Gail I’m glad you are so enjoying your film class. Also the read aloud class.
Geri good luck with your second dose. Ruth, Marlo and any others fingers crossed you get your appointments soon.
Karen C thanks for that vegan cheese list . I have had the FYH smoked Gouda and it was creamy. Some of the others may not be available here. I usually take what I can get.
we are hoping to hear from our realtor that the buyer has signed. Then we can begin the packing.
I asked Don this morning can I tell you about my dream. He responded yes, unless you’re mad at me for something in your dream. Lol

Good morning. Well it was a good morning until I just wiped out my post. The only thing left was "good morning". Sun is out and it should be in low 60s today. Still have ice on most of the stairs. The sun now hits the 6-8 inches next to the railing and that part is mostly clear. The remainder is solid, solid, solid. I don't want to chop on it and damage the bricks.
I sprinkled some spring mix lettuce seeds on the top of my rain barrel yesterday. Should see some little green in the next week or so. I also bought some radish seeds at Kroger yesterday. Time to start preparing the beds for planting. Last date for frost is 4/12, but there is a lot that can be done before that date. I'm going to move my tomato plants to another bed and put some root vegetables and flowers around the deck. I also have black eyed susans on the north side of my house and now the trees there is larger and they don't get enough sun. I going to move them to a spot around the mailbox as soon as they show their little heads. Ordered 100 shade plants from Michigan Bulb so put in the front of the house where I took out large shrubs last summer. I will have four shrubs so I can put lights on them for Christmas but for the most part it will be flowers, flowers, flowers. My tulips and daffodils are about 5-6 inches high and that means spring is right around the corner. I should have blooms by St. Patrick's Day.
I'm getting excited just thinking of spring and flowers. I have been a slug for the last weeks - maybe months. My last excitement was decorating for Christmas. I need to get this body into movement mode again! Did go for a dog walk with two friends yesterday and got over 6000 steps for the first time in a long time. This should be a daily achievement!

Greetings:
That cheese! That was a link to the UK and it wasn't the University of Kansas! So, I did look and Walmart sells Violife as well as Natural Grocers. The Walmart price for that Violife cheddar was over $70 on the website! That's gotta be an error. No one would pay that for a block of cheese at Walmart!
Karen E. the next challenge walk is a "dog walk", no dog required. It's only 1km, so I'll just incorporate it. I see a 10km walk in the next week or so. I hope there is at least one day ahead of my surgery so I can get it in. They usually have just a few days to do them, which is how I missed one last fall. I'm sending them a message. The last two have caused the "meter" to stop recording after the goal was met. That's crazy. It's so hard to see the phone face on my walk, which is required to kick in the counter again. I can't imagine why they did that.
Going to Costco later today. We both have webinars this morning and didn't want to take the chance we'd be delayed.
Geri, I love hearing about seeds. It's a couple of months early for seeds here, but there will be a time!
Karen E, the snows in Colorado stay in the higher elevations. Sometimes the lower (5280 feet) get dumped on, but the weather is so much better than most people realize. Years ago it might have been different. In northern Wyoming where I grew up, there was more snow in the lower elevations. The mountains cause weather to be interesting. The clouds having to go over them changes the moisture patterns. Some areas, like the western slope, are so much drier.
Sharon, I've been on the waiting list for a bean cookbook and Bill picked it up yesterday. I've just thumbed it, but there are some interesting-looking recipes. The other day I found a recipe for a soup with garbanzo beans. I have always liked garbanzo beans. Have to get some dried ones which the recipe calls for as well as using canned.
I got my blood work results recently. My A1C did not budge from last year despite losing 10 pounds and all that walking I'm doing. So, I'm going to look more carefully at food. Do you Dr. Greger followers do the Daily Dozen? I've been recording off and on, casually, for a few weeks. I've made a couple of changes, more often beans for lunch with salsa and carrots, for example, but mostly just recorded what I've done in preparation for making a change or two to meet his list. I'm not going crazy over this, just minor adjustments until I get so that I check off more boxes. If I try to make huge changes I fear I'll give up. Just one small change at a time works best for me.
Sun out there today. At 37 now, heading to 56. I'll walk a littler earlier so we can leave for Costco shortly after 2, but it'll still be nice. I'm so happy I can alternate between shady and sunny sidewalks most of the way. Some places it's sunny only.
So proud of you item sellers! I'm mulling over selling books to an online store. I haven't figured out how it all works yet.

good morning
I have a podiatrist appointment today and a guy coming to do some work. Only one pick up yesterday since the other didn't show up and I have my items down to 27 so need to add some more soon but another few will go to Goodwill before too long. I gave them 3 pair of new shoes that I couldn't sell for $3. Also some of Don's things out of the garage. The guy coming to work today is on his way and if f I hadn't given all of Don's clothes away this man could wear them. He is in need of work so hired him and hope this works out. He will be working outside but in my garage too.
Kelcy has been whining this morning. Never had him do that. I don't know why and worry about him.

Good Morning! The sun is out here in Central Florida, Yippee! It's been a few days since we've seen some sun. I always feel better when the sun is shining.
When I picked John up last night he asked me to pick him up at 6pm from school today because they have some last minute things to do on the solar car before it is entered into the competition on Wednesday. It's a good thing I already had bean soup figured for their dinner tonight. So my day will begin with taking John to school, picking Jerry up and going to Mass ( this one we don't want to miss as it's one where the Mass intention is ours), then to Gary's for 1)Janet's schoolwork (just hope we don't have any computer issues like we did yesterday) and 2) get bean soup going in the crockpot for their dinner. Sometime this afternoon I need to find time to take Duke for a walk. Then it will be pick John up at 6pm and take him home and finally I get to come home and make our dinner.
I'm looking forward to tomorrow as Mercy is off and the whole take John to school and Janet's schoolwork routine falls on her. However I take Jerry to the cardiologist on Wednesday morning for the results of his heart monitor.
Geri maybe you starting to plant will encourage me to do a small garden. When we lived in Michigan we had a huge garden every year and I'd can or freeze lots and lots of veggies. I also made ketchup and pickles every year. Makes me sound very lazy now as I don't do any of that.me
Sandy how are you feeling today? Hoping you are on the mend.
Gotta go granddaughter I'd having computer issues again!

Good Morning! Just a quick hello! Mike has a Zoom meeting with his CPA this morning and his camera on his computer doesn't work so he is using mine. Lord give me the strength to be patient with him I wanted to go get a pedi but I guess it won't be today. Karen, That bean cookbook sounds interesting. Please share any good recipes. I am always trying to get more beans in my diet. Perhaps I should try adding them to a smoothie, like Marlo does.

Good morning
Where is Sandy?
Things are moving along for you Sharon. Selling seems to be a waiting game, then it’s crunch time! Yesterday I got to dispose of a king mattress for $20 (deal!) got the hot water tank pilot relit and fireplace moved down the hall to the buyer. The janitor did all this and said he wants my sofa and loveseat so I don’t need to dispose of those! This morning I got the name of someone who will deliver my Oriental rug, vintage wood carved cedar chest and 7’ armoire to the local auction. They will take 30% of proceeds but at least they will be off my hands.
The weather temp. will be in the 40s for a few days. As of March 4, if not before, when packing/moving is behind me, I will be back to a long swim and long walk daily. The nanny and I discussed driving to the beach or state park with the twins for a long walk each day. I’m trying to avoid changing cars in order to accommodate 3 car seats. The nanny said her cousin had a special seat for 3 made for his smaller suv. She is a wonderful young woman, in grad. School, majoring in education. She’s moving to her own place so I have been able to share glassware, lamps, etc as well as sports books, cds with her Dad.
Pat, always a busy day fir you. How wonderful that you are such a strong advocate for all! Great that you are an avid reader and knitter, etc. both relaxing hobbies!
Geri, I hope to develop a bit of a green thumb like you. We have plenty of room for flowers and veggies here. Lilac bushes and strawberries are a priority. We will have to deal with lots of animals so I’m tempted to buy a small screened house.
Jane, is this handyman one that you met through Marketplace. It’s wonderful to give him some work and be very careful. We all know that we as seniors are targets and can be taken advantage of. Especially one such as you with such a good heart.
Waving to all because I am dallying and must get moving as I have much to do!
Have a terrific Tuesday!
Marlo

Ruth, white beans make the smoothie so creamy. Also, I add white beans to my cruciferous blend beet salad for protein.
Wanted to mention that I picked up a ‘Whole Food Plant Based’ magazine at the Dollar store. It’s terrific with simple healthy recipes. I’m thrilled with it and the price was right!

Good morning!
Sun is shining brightly and the temp is 43 degrees. It's going to be a good day!
I have my yearly eye exam appointment this afternoon but that's all I have on my agenda for today. I'll come straight home since they always dilate my eyes and it takes at least 2-3 hours for that to wear off.
We had round steak/grilled onions last night for supper and there's enough leftover for Jerry to eat tonight. I'll bake myself some tilapia/pineapple salsa. Since Jerry hates all things seafood, the only time I can fix fish for supper is if there's some other type of meat for him to eat.
Sounds like everyone is having a busy day with mild temps. Enjoy!

Jane, I am watching American Idol right now and just heard Casey Bishop. I agree! She is AWESOME! What natural talent...and only 15 years old. It’s great to have someone to root for!

I was able to listen to the Estero contestant on YouTube, she’s amazing! Didn’t get to hear her story or the judges reaction. Since I do t have cable, I don’t have a guide on the TV. Could someone tell me what day and hour American Idol is on. I know I missed it on Sunday night as DSIL needed to fix my reception.
Thanks all!
Marlo
I’ve been dawdling but now I have an appointment for a driver to pick up my auction items at 1:30pm. Hooray! That will be the last of the big items I need to unload!

Sad News--Some of you may remember Vera Boehm from the WW Senior Challenge group. She used the tag name POTSGALORE with the msg group back then. Vera was quite the cook and had many, many pots; hence, her tag name. She loved dancing and attended many Broadway shows and always went to see the Rockettes Christmas Show until 2 yrs ago. She and her husband Bill moved from their suburban New York home to a small senior Apt a couple years ago as she was having a great deal of trouble with her Parkinson's Disease. Bill was her primary caregiver. This past year was quite difficult for her as she was struggling with balance and mobility. Bill had to feed her as she couldn't manage the utensils. Unfortunately Vera was recently hospitalized with Covid and passed away on Feb. 17th.

Oh no, KC. I just scrolled down to your entry. I didn't remember that Vera had PD. Such a terrible disease! Different combos of us met up with her and Bill a few times when they traveled to Maine and MA. I also saw her a few years ago near where she lived and it was a joy to catch up. Thank you for letting us know.
BBL to post.
