BBR Forward
The forward states that this book, The Beck Diet Solution by Judith Beck is “Based on the techniques of Cognitive Therapy, it helps you learn to think differently so you can change your eating behavior – not just in the short run, but for the rest of your life.” The forward goes on and says that while people can change their behavior those changes don’t last unless they also change their thinking.
While people often know what they need to do to lose weight and then maintain the weight loss they don’t always know “how to do these things or they don’t know how to consistently get themselves to do these things. In countering this Judith Beck has identified the key thinking distortions and calls them “sabotaging thoughts.” Examples of these are: Rationalization (I had a rough day I deserve this), underestimating consequences (Calories don’t count on Christmas), self-deluded thinking (I’ll make up for it the rest of the week), arbitrary rules (It is my birthday I have to celebrate with food), mind-reading (Patty made these and she’ll feel bad if I don’t have one or two), and exaggeration (I need to eat all of this because I might get hungry).
This program will teach you to correct these distortions, how to solve diet- and non-diet-related problems, and how to motivate yourself to do what you need to do.
Aaron T. Beck, M. D. wrote the forward. He was the (or one of the) originators of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Judith Beck’s father.

I like the part where it says we can make these changes for the rest of our lives. I agree that our thinking governs our success/failure with weight management. Before I knew about this book I knew I had to change my "short-circuited" thinking to be successful. (Very glad I found the book) My biggest sabotaging thoughts are that I must eat because I'm hungry and I don't want to be uncomfortable, and I've gotten away with overeating before, I'll get away with it this time.

What do you think about the idea that our thinking governs our success/failure with weight management?My mantra/visual is BELIEVE -> See so...I am sure that my thoughts impact my success/failure.
This morning I looked at the scale being up and could have opted to change the program, go off the rails, or throw in the towel. Instead, I decided to reread some information, weigh and measure the protein that is "free" on the blue plan and track on My Fitness Pal, too. Positive attitude makes a HUGE difference

I know that thinking governs my success/ failure with weight management. I have lived success through using the Beck Diet Solution. Is there a difference between me then and now? Not really. Just not putting in the mental work and letting sabotaging thoughts have a field day.
The sabotaging thoughts I noticed that I have are: underestimating consequences and self-deluded thinking. I frequently think "well, I'll finish up this ice cream, then I'll start" which is self-deluding and it underestimates the consequences of waiting - which is weight gain, not neutral.
I really need this review.

I am reading this as I'm eating my second bowl of oatmeal in a long while, that was my mainstay for breakfast to reduce my cholesterol and give me a morning start while in losing mode. I've lost a lot of good habits during the kitchen reno, some out of necessity because I had no real kitchen, but it's time to get back in the saddle and get my shit together!
What hit me most when I read this morning's post is the first bolded part - I KNOW what I need to do after so many BBRs, I have that knowledge inside my head. But I guess my changed thinking has shifted back to 'old, unhelpful thinking', and that's what I need to work on this round. Getting my head back in the game. I am so grateful for these reviews and for everyone who participates because everyone says something at one point or another during a review that will resonate with someone else here.

I don’t like the guilt and disappointment that sabotaging thoughts bring to poor eating. I really like the confidence and control that healthy habits bring to a healthy lifestyle. I’m here again to exercise the healthy Beck habits.

What do you think about the idea that our thinking governs our success/failure with weight management? Having that control over my thoughts puts the power to manage my weight back in my hands (literally)  What sabotaging thoughts have you had? " I don't feel like exercising today, but it's okay. I'll make up for it tomorrow." "I can stand up and eat one or two bites."
