People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Enough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.
If the thread has not been started for the day, and you are ready to post, feel free to get us started.
Questions of the day: Wednesday: Sharon; Thursday: Ruth; Friday: Recipe Sharing; Saturday: Karen C: Sunday: Gail.

Good Morning!
Good news...I have both of my vaccines scheduled at Publix in a not so good part of town, but Mike will take me, so I am okay with it. You should have seen us trying to getting an availability. The site opened at 7 a.m. We had the site open on my iPhone, my computer and my iPad and Mike's iPhone and iPad. We got in first on his iPhone and I got kicked off before the appointment was completed then bookings opened up on his computer, so I didn't get the same appointment, but I got it! Yay! At Publix they schedule the first and the 2nd at the same time.

Congratulations to all of you who have sold their homes so quickly.
I should have a relatively easy day today as Mercy has the day off and that means no grandkids for the day.
We do have an appointment with the cardiologist for the results from Jerry's heart monitor. Saying prayers that we have good results.
Had some upsetting news from my best friend in Orlando. Her husband had a colonoscopy yesterday and the doctor said there were some very large polyps that he could only partially remove. Of course they were sent to be biopsied. She's beside herself with worry as the doctor wants to see her hubby next week and mentioned surgery could be in the near future. Her husband's brother died of colon cancer which only makes her worry more. She's been on my mind all night.
Yes, I'd love to have even a small garden as I miss the fresh veggies. Maybe I'll do a couple tomato plants. Something to think about. I already have a raised bed as that is where we have pineapples growing. A couple of those plants are no longer producing so I could take them out and put in a couple tomato plants.

Greetings:
Sandy, so nice to see when you've started the thread.
Sharon, I've copied that info on the frozen sidewalks melter. thanks for posting it. I've been putting ice melt on a spot on our sidewalk. Water drains off our house and goes right for the sidewalk! There is no where else for it to go since the sidewalk is pretty level so it just pools there and freezes and re-freezes! At least it does get some sun between the houses, but it's short. I thought that was good at first, but it's actually not because it just refreezes. When it's warm enough I get out with the shovel and try to crack chunks and toss them onto the strip of grass between the sidewalk and the street. But with snow on the roof, it drains again and starts all over! I'm going to mix a jug of that and pour over it.
Yesterday was beautiful. We got to 62, but didn't break the record which was 72. I actually got too hot on my walk! Today we're getting snow, 3-4 inches. High of mid-30s. Tomorrow Bill has class again and unfortunately there is supposed to be more snow down south, which is where his class is.
Beans in a smoothie. Well, why not. Especially if it makes the smoothie creamy! I've just thumbed the bean book so far and there have been beans by names that are totally new to me. This is going to be an adventure! My plan is find some recipes that Bill likes. The only beans he likes are pinto beans cooked with a ham hock.
Sharon, I don't do anything medically formal with blood sugar. The doc has said that 6.1 is pre-diabetic. Which is why I'm really focused on getting it back into the 5.?. I thought exercise and losing some weight would do it. but obviously not. I have my appointment with her for the physical in a couple of weeks. I'm going to ask about a nutrition reference or something I can use to help work on what I eat. I'm pretty new to the Dr. G. and am not 100% compliant yet, but have started. I'll look at the Am Diabetic Assn site for some sample menus. Because DH is on meds, he's a bit lax about sugars. So he's no model! Though that does remind me he has that initial notebook he got about planning his meals when he was first diagnosed. I need to find that, maybe I can use something there.
I love bread but have really reined it in and it feels natural. I love that recipe for no-yeast bread but I've made it only 3 or 4 times this year. I go for a week or two without a piece at all.
Oh, poor Don! Hopefully together you can plan how much you need to sort and pack each day. And then stop and rest! Along with selling and giving away and whatever else you are doing! I bet you can find some boxes. When we moved here and unpacked I stacked the boxes and there was always someone asking for moving boxes. Never had an issue with getting rid of them.

good morning.
I will say this guy I hired is a good worker and he is so needy that my heart aches for him. He is 41 and had all his tools taken so is in the process of trying to get what he can to work with. He now rents a room from a friend but told me he has spent a lot of time sitting in his truck just crying but his mother told him to never quit and so he keeps going. His parents are both dead and so is a brother and this man looks so thin that I wonder if he gets enough to eat. He says he builds furniture for outdoor and when he was headed home he told me he would still work on that after he got there. He worked with his little power washer and it was having problems. A new head is $20 he said. I gave him $20 for removing a huge bush and he was very good with how he did that and put the new one in carefully and gave it a good watering. This was after dark and he was working with a light to see. I was impressed with how he took care of his equipment even though it was all beat up he carefully packed it up. I gave him $20 to buy the new head and if he doesn't come back it was only $20. He does not live near me so takes him 45 min. to get here. His truck is so old and he told me he had a problem with it yesterday. He is very polite but seems very depressed with his life and especially with his tools he worked hard to get being stolen now. He had a tiny spade to dig out my big bush and I have a big one I told him to use. None of my outdoor outlets are working. So he had to use one in the garage. I don't know what that problem is. Life is hard for so many people but at least he is trying to make a living and not standing on a corner holding a sign.
I play bridge today so need to get moving.
Glad you got your appointment Ruth.
Welcome to the new poster

I was so saddened to hear of Vera’s passing and how she struggled late in life. May she rest in peace. Prayers to her family. I have many of her recipes in my files and they are some of my favorites.

Good morning. Welcome schpuggy. Please tell us your name and where you are from. This is a welcoming and supportive group.
Sharon I have use alcohol and warm water for years but this was too thick plus the roof melt washed it off and new buildup. Yesterday was 74 and still ice on steps. Trash pickup came Monday.
One piece of mail Monday, two on Tuesday and none yesterday. That was after missing 6 deliveries. I must have a stack somewhere.
Second dose yesterday at Vanderbilt. There was a sign when leaving that said 7 days after second dose you are fully covered.
I have absolutely no symptoms, not even a sore arm. I did fall asleep early and slept 10 hours.
Going to be sunny and 70s again today. Dog walk scheduled for 3:00.
Make the most of this day. I have sawing promised and bread 🍞 is rising.

Good morning. It’s been busy here and I can hear paper rustling. I’d better go help soon.
Have you ever made those egg muffins in a muffin pan? Sometimes they are called egg bites. Chopped veggies and then whipped up egg on top and bake. They keep in the freezer. Well I can’t get the residue out of the pans. What to do!
QOTD: I almost forgot it’s Wednesday. Don’s cousin put this on Facebook and had fun with it. So now I’ll give you a chance to fess up. What was the biggest mistake you ever made at work?
AOTD: part of my job at the bank was buying and selling Fed funds. It’s one way banks made money. Once I overdrew our bank at the Federal Reserve. I was panicked. My boss just chuckled and said everyone who’s done that job has had that happen.
Sharon. Back to packing

Ruth good that you were able to get vaccine appt, and Geri has no side effects after second dose. My DH gets first dose today.
Supposed to be in 80s today here. I must get out and walk before the 115 temps come.
If you watch This Is Us, last night's episode was a good one and brought back memories of bringing the baby home from the hospital, exciting but scary time.
The only thing I can remember that happened was when I worked as a legal secretary. Our basset hound had seven puppies. After rushing to work, I noticed I forgot to change shoes and was still wearing bedroom slippers. On my lunch break, I drove home to check on the puppies and change shoes.

Jane, what a shame for the handyman you had working there last night. How nice of you to give him the $20 for the part he needs for the power washer.
On a positive note DGD Cassey got a call from the ATF Agent that interviewed her for her internship last Fall. He was letting her know of a position opening for Industry Operations Investigator. She's going to put in her application. She will graduate from Penn State U, Abington at the end of this semester.
Bill and I are still having difficulty getting vaccination appts. Supply of vaccinations have been very limited here in Bucks Co, PA. The county estimates that it will be at least 14 more weeks before everyone in Group 1A that wants to be vaccinated will have received at least the 1st shot. Frustrated about this.
Received word last night that a member of Ella's soccer team at UMASS Amherst has Covid. A number of others on the team have tested positive but Ella's test was negative. The entire team will be retested during the day today. Three of the players with positive tests have been in closer contact with Ella as they all live on the same dorm floor and they all walked together to the dining halls to pick up their meals to bring back to the dorm. They do wear their masks whenever they go outside their single resident dorm room. But a number of girls share the same bathroom facilities. We knew she has been extremely careful and hope that she has done enough to be protected. Of course the entire team is upset because they were to have their first game (scrimmage) today and it was, of course, cancelled due to Covid protocols.

KC so sorry about Covid on the team. Prayers Ella will be safe.
Sharon I bake my egg bites in muffin tins and have no problem clean them. I do spray with olive oil. Try soaking with soap, ammonia and hot water. You need one of the scrubbies I make. They are great for getting egg and cheese off things. I'll send you one....would you prefer I wait until after you move. It's not big, but just one more thing to pack!!
I'm thinking of returning to rec center next week to use bike for 10-15 minutes a day. My knees felt better when I did that, but being too careful to go there.

Good morning!
I'm off to Kroger in a few minutes but wanted to check in and say hi.
Welcome to our new poster! It's always nice to see a new face. Come back often.
Sharon, congrats on selling the house.
Jane, so sad about the handyman you had working there last night. We just never know what someone else is going through.
I wasn't here when Vera was posting but she must have been a wonderful lady just from what you all have posted about her.
Gotta scoot!!!
