Ruth and schpuggy glad to hear you got your vaccine appointments.
Back from the cardiologist. Not great news but sort of what we expected. Jerry does have AFIB just to add to all the rest of his issues. However, blood thinner meds are not compatible with the cancer med he is on. So its a toss up. Jerry's chosen to stay on the cancer med, take a low dose aspirin everyday and pray for the best. I agree with his decision.
Funny thing is I've been wishing for a "down" day with an empty calendar and now I have one don't know what to do with myself.
The biggest mistake I ever made was transferring bosses. I knew he was a jerk and I transferred anyway. Biggest mistake ever!!!!!

Greetings:
Ah, Vera. I remember her but never met her. She lived near the Tappan Zee bridge in New York. Every time we went over it I thought about meeting her, but she was reluctant to do that. She seemed to be a feisty little lady and had lots of good recipes. It's nice to know about her, though it is sad news. I think about the people who come and go through the thread.
I'm devoting most of the morning to getting caught up with my volunteer treasurer work. I love mobile deposit, but ran into a wrinkle. The bank we use has a limit of 10 checks per day to deposit. $50,000, but 10 checks. We just had a contest and I have a boatload of $2 to $40 checks and it's taking days to get them deposited! Today I can't even get deposit to work. I'm trying to find out if there is a limit on the number of days one can deposit 10 checks per day! This is so funny. I'm backed up with keeping the members list current so really need to work here. Just taking a break.
DH hadn't received the paint he ordered from Blick so I said I'd called the company to let them know. He had it shipped to our Tucson address. It was long enough ago that clearly they just kept it. Too bad they didn't contact Blick and say it had arrived. We just had that happen. A 57 pound box arrived. I thought the box was DH's new C-Pap or suppies so we dragged in it. Turned out to be a part for some astronomy thing. I called the shipper, we'd opened the box, and learned it was going to El Paso, TX. It had our name and address on the outside, but no one could figure it out. UPS came back and picked it up. They were profusely thankful we'd called them. That's the right thing to do. Sigh.
QOTD: I almost forgot it’s Wednesday. Don’s cousin put this on Facebook and had fun with it. So now I’ll give you a chance to fess up.
What was the biggest mistake you ever made at work?
AOTD: Waiting a day to pursue a complaint from an external employee. I got busy, involved with something else and didn't get back to her on the same day to at least make an initial inquiry.
KC, you've got some highs and lows. So sad when the kids' sports events are cancelled. They all work so hard for them.
Will get my Covid test today. We went to Costco during "regular people" hours yesterday. Lots of new things, but missing a lot of what we regularly buy. Shortages are popping up in odd categories. I did buy a case of the chocolate protein shakes. I can't eat for a week, but I can drink. I suspect they taste awful, but they'll give me nutrients.

AOTD: listening to my mother and marrying the wrong person. There are three children that are a positive result of that. I guess there is good to be found in everything.

Jane thinking of your handyman, how sad for him and many. My heart goes out to all struggling.
Geri I have some of the crocheted scrubbies from a lady down the street. Maybe I’ll try a new one instead of the used ones. Thanks anyway. im itching to get back to a gym or fitness center, but like you wanted to be careful. I did venture into Publix today though. Just to get an item only they have.
I tried posting after lunch but fell asleep right in the middle of it. Weird, but I didn’t sleep good last night.
KC good luck to Cassie and Ella. And to you and your to get a vaccine appointment.

KC, Sorry about the COVID cases on Ella's soccer team. Glad Ella's test was negative. I know your frustration in not being able to get an appointment. The only reason I was able to get mine is that Publix stopped taking appointments last week due to inclement weather in other parts of the country. Every night I checked the Publix website to see when they would open up appointments and last night when I checked at 10 pm it said they would be offering appointments again. Not everyone knew this so not as many were trying. Plus more than half of the counties did not get vaccines. Those things helped me get my appointments. Hang in there. More vaccines are coming!
Jane, God Bless you for giving that worker $20 for the new part he needed. You never know how much a small kindness can mean to someone down on their luck.
Carolyn, I did not know you were a legal secretary. In one of my professions I was, too. I also worked for a US Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustee. That was a very interesting job. I love THIS IS US. I teach yoga on Zoom on Tuesday nights so we tape it and watch it on Wednesday.
AOTD: I know I have made many small mistakes on the job, but the biggest mistake I made was when I worked as a cashier in a grocery store. It was my first day (I was 20 or 21) and a couple had bought a cartful of groceries that was over $100 (when $100 was a lot of money). They had forgotten their checkbook, so went out in the car to get it. It was a very busy Saturday night. They came back in and just walked out with their groceries. YIKES! I didn't get in trouble because I was new but the manager decide that in the future if that happened their cart would be taken back to the stockroom until they came and paid for their groceries.

I would like to make a suggestion for Friday's Recipe Sharing. In honor and memory of Vera, for those of you that have one of Vera's recipes, please share your favorite. I already have an idea of the one I will share.

My handyman did show up about 10 this morning and left about 11 but told me he would be back. I figure he left to find a bathroom and when he came back he had a bottle of milk he was drinking. Before I went to play bridge I gave him $60 and when I got home he had on new shorts and a tank top and told me he went to Walmart and had lunch. . He is almost done with the driveway. This little power washer is taking forever but he also cleaned the border around the flower bed and my little stone animals--my rabbit and frog and dog that sit in it. He has been on the phone some and one call with IRS. his stimulus check was put in a bank account and he does''t have one. So trying to track it down. He is finally done with the front and now working on the lanai which is not as hard so shouldn't take long. None of my outside outlets are working so don't know what I am to do about that. He told me that he has lined up a job that will last for a month doing repairs on a house that the owner wants to sell. He said that should let him buy some things he needs. His clothes were so ragged with the rear end full of holes and the knees too so I wish I had some of don's clothes but all I had were two size large t shirts that were gifts from don's kids and too big for Don so of course they will be huge on this guy but at least something to wear. He told me he was to the point of living in his car but found a room to rent. I imagine every penny he makes just gets spent for him to live so hope he gets that stimulus check but said IRS said they would notify him in 90 days. so he has to keep his cell phone going or no one would be able to hire him.
OK I won bridge today and I sold $20 on Marketplace so can afford to pay him more than he asked . I feel he earned it .

OMG. When I left the house for the library I realized how beautiful it was outside--in the 50s and not a cloud in the sky. So I got dressed and went for a long walk - an hour and a quarter - to the beach and back. It is 6:30 and I have over 12000 steps already. With my yoga this am and the walk I am feeling energized and smiling. I also saw the daffodils coming up, Geri. The snow had hidden them. Yay for the approaching spring.
I am so glad more of you are getting your vaccinations. I read today that Moderna is working on a new version of their vaccine that is more resilient to other strains of COVID. So I continue to be vigilant: wearing masks, staying socially distant, not being indoors with many people, washing hands frequently, etc. However, having had my second shot a week and a half ago, I am feeling much less anxious.
Good luck with your friend, Pat.
Sharon, I have made those egg bites. I never had a problem with their sticking to the pan because I use non-stick muffin tins and also spray a bit of oil to prevent sticking.
AOTD (cute one, Sharon): The first mistake that comes to mind is when I went with one of the deans and some students to an international conference in Bangladesh organized by one of my colleagues. I made the plane reservations and mistakenly booked a return on the wrong day--one day after we had planned to go! Luckily there was enough space on the flight we wanted and we did not have to wait around. One huge error a friend of mine made when I was working in public accounting is that she programmed a computer auditing step to print out a section of the company's records incorrectly. She left at the end of the day only to discover that she had programmed the computer to print out ALL of its records. The next morning the whole room was full of computer printout!
Carolyn, that was a lovely THIS IS US episode, showing the experiences of all of the characters in bringing a baby (or babies) home from the hospital. I don't understand what happened at the end, though, where there is a flash forward. Is Rebecca dying there?
Great news about Cassey, KC, and I do hope Ella is ok.

I thought of another mistake I made at work, though I think I already posted it here. When I was in HS I did some volunteer work at my dad's hospital (I think we were called 'Pink Ladies). One of the supervisors told me to bring fresh pitchers of waters to all of the rooms on that floor. She pointed to a closet and said I would find them in there. Well I picked up a few and brought them to the rooms. When my dad came back from rounds that evening he could not stop laughing. One of his patients showed him what I had brought to her room filled with fresh water: a urinal! OMG, I was so embarrassed.
BTW, JJJ messaged me about Vera's passing. I don't know if any of you remember JJJ. I met up with her a number of times. She is someone I miss too.
Have a lovely evening, friends.

A long day and will have more to say about that tomorrow. My biggest mistake at work will remain a secret. Only Steven and I know about it and that is how it shall remain. Steven knows about it as I needed him to help repair the damage.
