I know I have a busy Monday ahead of me...I hope an early posting is better than forgetting!
I’m planning to take questions from a previous WW program (Momentum). These items were referred to as Tools for Living.
Mental rehearsing:
Mental rehearsing enables you to prepare for situations that you know will test your will. In a nutshell, mental rehearsing allows you to prepare mentally to act a certain way in real life. It’s what public speakers, actors and athletes do to prepare for performances. You visualize yourself handling a tough situation the way you’d want to handle it. Then, when the situation truly arises, you’ll already know what to do.
How to do this: Imagine yourself in the situation, as though you are watching yourself in a movie. In your mind’s eye, be as specific as possible. Where you are, who you are with, what you say. Now, in your mind, respond to the challenging situation the way you want to respond. Practice often.
What do you think? Is there a specific kind of situation that comes up often that you’d like to respond do differently? Do you think this could help?

I recall when I first read/heard of this, I thought it was a bit odd, but, I do know, like the materials mentioned, that I’ve seen athletes “practice” their performance mentally before a competition.
I did try this with a situation at work. One of the baked goods I had to make was particularly tempting and I’d want to eat one right away, but that meant I didn’t really have time to enjoy it. I wanted to eat a small portion, occasionally, mindfully enjoying it. I felt this hint helped me “see” myself enjoying it so much more in relaxed circumstances, and feeling much better about myself.

Kind of have done this in pre-planning in the past. Sometimes it works and sometimes not.

I have done this too. It does often help for different kinds of things.

Interesting concept. I appreciated your example Judy. I can't think of a specific example this morning. I'm going to do more thinking about this today.

Might not be a bad idea. I do speak in front of people sometimes. I have never had "stage fright". I often do readings & church & organize groups. When I was working, I often gave speeches to other employees on different subjects. I have never seen myself as in a movie, might be a good idea.

I did this last week with Easter candy. I thought I would buy some Easter candy (very good price) and then when family is here I would use it as part of my centerpiece. I stopped and said to myself "play this all the way to the end". When have you had candy in the house that you didn't eat all of it and have to go and buy replacements for it? Never.... then I went further. How do you feel physically when eating a lot of sugar...awful, no energy.... How do you feel mentally - not good at all. I could really picture all this being played out. I left the store and felt physically good and mentally alert Marie

I do this when I am eating out (maybe at a potluck). Visualize the food choices and decide how they will make me feel after eating them.
