Back from a busy morning....
CJ- thanks for posting the mini Monday quilt block links...I really like them, simple and cute. LOVE the broken dish one- they are all so cute. Not so sure how I would fare working with mini blocks like that. Jane bought a set of mini quilts from Bear Creek last year- the fabric is gorgeous and she has had a lot of fun making them. I can see myself getting into it, if I can adapt my thinking to working with mini quilts. But its a great way to quilt and not have to spend a ton of money on fabric/batting etc....but you can still have fun. I figure that you also have lovely spring weather. Hope you can open a window or two and enjoy. What are you working on today??
Ruth - no never caught the mouse. Not sure where it went either. The kitten still sits by the stove sometimes, but she does not sit with the same intent. Before she was really trying to tell me something...now its much more casual. I have 7 traps- loaded with peanut butter and chocolate. No catches. But the kitten is also not chasing a mouse in the living room so who knows where the mouse went. Did you catch your second mouse? Were the pocket shawl pockets ever located??
Gonna go for a walk and then work on how I am going to finish that baby quilt. Got it in my head that perhaps I can do this myself. I will post pics of my sample stitching when I have something to post. Ginny

No we haven't caught the second mouse yet and we do have the traps set with pb and chocolate also. Dh put pb and a piece of a walmart brand cheeto on one trap. Nothing was caught on it.I think that Phyl might have said she or someone she knew tried an offbrand cheese puff and it didn't work either. Guess mice are fussy and "brand snobs". . I still haven't found those pocket. Well I know they're here somewhere but I don't know werethat somewhere is. I've looking in all my crochet bags. I'm tempted to either use different pockets or make a whole new pocket shawl for her with the new Homespun I bought (intended for making pockets). They know I always send gifts late and are good with that so there's no hurry. I could go ahead and wrap all the other things but not today.
I worked on the baby blanket last night and also one of those "magic" potholders which have not really worked for me but I'm trying again.I ran out of the yarn I was using though so have to find some that will work with it or maybe even abandon that one and start over. They're quick to make...if you do it right and I think this time maybe I'm doing it ok except the one part that's supposed to match where you sew the sseam is rounded instead of straight but I'm doing it correctly so don't know what is going wron,
Snow is still here and it might have even snowed more during the night. As far as neighbor plowing well I think he might have gotten sick or something. I haven't seen him around for a couple months now. Yes I'm a terrible neighbor for not going over there to check. I'm sure that many others are keeping track of him. He's very social and has a lot of friends which, if he is sick is probably the reason why he is sick. He's always going to the homes of others and having company to his house and both he and his wife have medical issues and he never uses a mask. I didn't even see him out the other evening when that fire was burning which is extremely unusual for him. I know they were home.

Hello - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - Hope you don't get too much snow, I see there is supposed to be a lot along the border with Colorado. Ginny - Hope you can finish the baby quilt. Do you ever consider just using straight lines like I do on my quilts? We had really nice weather here today, sunny and in the 70s. I'm glad I finished the yard work yesterday when it was a bit cooler. I finished the 3 yard quilt top I was working on. It has Snoopy fabric and cloud fabric that I was happy to get to use. The blocks are large so you can see the fabric, which is what I wanted. My only "complaint" with the pattern was that there are 2 inner borders with strips cut at 1.5 inches and then an outer border with the strip cut at 2.0 inches, so it's a bit difficult working with these small size long strips. I would use this pattern again for the center portion and then add a wider border. This is the pattern: www.fabriccafe.com/Sew-Fast-Free-3-Yard-Quilt-Pattern-p/091526-free.htmIt's a free pattern from Fabric Cafe. I have a lot of novelty type fabrics so maybe I can use some of them in this pattern. I'm also keeping up with my daily blocks and have 11 made now. I sewed the first two rows together today and I'm pretty happy with how it's turning out so far. Take care everyone!

It turns out my neighbor is fine. He was out plowing part of our driveway today. I have to get busy and get the gift I planned to give them for Christmas done and give to them. This is the coaster I decided on www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQZEgy8nN7QThis is the one I had considered but the one above is just as nice and easier to make www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQZEgy8nN7QRight now I have one of each made so maybe I'll give them three of each. CJ, it's good to see you. Missed you earlier. I love that quilt and am looking forward to seeing your's in the Snoopy Fabric. Snoopy and clouds go very well together. I would never be able to keep up with making a block every day. You, on the other hand, did that and also did some others besides. Now they say that we may get 13 inches more snow on the weekend but, yes, down by the southern border I think my dh said they might get up to 36 inches!! They're calling that a historic snowfall. I really have my doubts about that. That's a lot of snow which usually occurs in the higher mountains. We do need the moisture and altough I always hate hearing people say that I do have to agree. Without it we will be at risk of a lot of fires. I remember dear Meg talking about that in Calif. I miss her.I loved hearing her talk about Devon and Janet

Ruth, yes, I miss Meg too. What a shame she is gone- its over a year now, as I figure she passed early in the covid invasion. I wonder who is watching out for Janet. Oh my you are in for a lot of snow. 36 inches is a lot!! I know its south of you, but that is a lot of snow for sure. Glad to hear that your neighbor is ok. What a sweet person to plow out your driveway for you.The coaster set is very pretty- what color yarn are you planning on using for them?? Its been years since I have made one of those magic potholders. Wish I could help you figure out why yours is not coming out perfectly. But I know you will figure it out.
CJ- that is such a cute pattern - especially for snoopy fabric and cloud fabric .Its got a sweet lighthearted appeal, and will look great with those fabrics. You are such a dedicated quilter, keeping up with those daily blocks. Great idea- yes I have considered quilting with straight line stitching. I was hoping to quilt with something fun- but will make my decision soon. Congrats on getting some yard work done.
Got a few rows of crocheting done today.
Slept awfully last night, so I am very tired. Have a good night Ginny

Ginny, it's good to see you. You must have had a very busy day. I hope with something you enjoyed. I hope you'll be able to sleep better tonight and will be able to relax on the weekend.
Tomorrow we're to get 11.7 inches of snow and the next day 7 more inches. I'll believe it when I see it. Yes the neighbor is a very nice man. He does things like this for a lot of people in the neighborhood. His snow plowing will all be in vain if we get all that snow. I should have gone down to the mailbox before the snow. Too late now as it's dark and I can't drive in the dark.
I'm going to make the coasters and cup cozies in gold because, although I've been inside their home a few times I don't remember what colors they have and I think that gold will go with everything. I guess I could have made them in the variegated browns that I used to make the set of potholders that I gave them a couple years ago.The gold though is pretty much a neutral and is not a real bright gold. I could give the gold ones to someone else. I think I'll make a bunch of these and keep them for any last minute gifts I want to give.I haven't worked on any crafting today except to look at the crochet groups online to see what everyone is making. I did do some cooking.
CJ must be busy working on all those beautiful quilt tops. I am looking foward to seeing the Snoopy and clouds one especially.

Good Morning,
Phyl- Ruth and I (mostly Ruth) figured out that Meg most likely passed in the early covid days- think it might have been January of 2020 so it was most likely not covid. I last heard from her personally in November or December of 2019. She had some issues, but Meg was not a complainer- so her issues could have been massive and we would not have known. She still sounded like our Meg- and hoped to return to the thread. Happy Birthday to Don!!! Wow....85. What a blessing to be have so many years of the blessing of life. Hope you have a wonderful day and enjoy your time with Jim and Theresa. And Phyl, you did do some crafting....getting that Easter decor in the front window sure counts in my book!!!
Ruth, Oh my!! Are you really in for that much snow ? I hope not. What a sweetheart your neighbor sounds like!

Sorry to cut that short- Ds came up for breakfast and seemed to want to chat.
Back to you Ruth- actually if you really get that much snow, its probably best that you get plowed twice. Yes, I know its more work for him but it will be an easier plow done in two smaller loads. But I do not plow snow....could be so wrong. I think a soft gold would be wonderful ( and very neutral) for almost any home decor. Thinking about the rooms in my house - which have some different color schemes, and a muted gold would work in any of them!!! Of course variegated browns are so nice too- another neutral which would work in most any decor. Were you able to make any sense out of the self folding potholders?? Of course you might have given up on them, and I would not blame you if you did. You do so many more complicated projects, it makes no sense to struggle over a project like that.
So I did get some crocheting in yesterday. I slept pretty well last night- think about 9 hours- but I had two horrible nights of sleep so I am glad to have caught up. Think Dd is coming over later on. Ds is home today. We are back to winter weather.
I am growing frustrated with the baby quilt- and will today start the quilt sandwich to diagonally quilt it. Its not really what I want to do, but I just do not feel like sending the quilt out and spending $70 to have it quilted.
And we lose an hour of sleep here tonight- as I live in an area that changes the clocks for daylight savings. Its a cool and sunny day here. Nice to see the sun shining through the window. Ginny

Actually we heard from her toward the end of last Feb because she asked if I had your address so that she could send you a condolence card. Not that that matters.
And Phyl, the obit I saw for her had no picture but the name was the same, the date of birth was the right one, the area in which she lived, and two grandaughters were mentioned and I remembered their names. It didn't mention her son nor her daughter Janet so I was leary of posting that she died but I'm about 99,9% sure it was her.

My oldest grandaughter got her stimulus money already. They sent her $4200. I thought everyone got the same amount but I guess it goes by how many dependents you have. She has two children.
I haven't worked anymore on the Magic potholder because I want to get the coasters and cup cozies done. I'll probably work on the magic one today and see if it straigtens out as I get further in making it.. I got 5 coasters done then found that I had made a mistake on two of them and they only had 5 points instead of 6 so I made one more then it was time for sleep.

Hello Everyone Ginny - Good luck with the machine quilting. I saw a picture of a quilt that was similar to yours and they used the wavy line quilting stitch to quilt it. It turned out good. Hope you like how yours finishes. Ruth - I hope you don't get as much snow as they predicted. Sounds like you are making good progress on the coasters. Phyl - Hope you enjoy your visit with Jim and Theresa and Happy Birthday to Don! Sue - Hope you are doing well and your DGD too. I still miss Meg too, she was a sweet person and I enjoyed hearing about her projects and "talking" about TV shows we both watched I went out yesterday to mail some bills and get a few groceries. I also stopped at Target to buy a new iron, and a few other things. My current iron (a Rowenta) has been great and I love it but the heat indicator dial has been broken for awhile and it's not heating as well as it did. I bought a Black and Decker that was about $25 to see how it works. It did alright this morning. The grocery store I stopped in had a special last week and this week for Progresso Soups. If you bought 3 cans of soup, then you got 5 cans free! That is a great deal - so I went last week and this week and now I have 16 cans of soup I caught up with my daily March Hope quilt blocks this morning since I didn't feel like doing one yesterday. I also caught up with the block for the Scrap Palooza quilt along. The next thing I need to get to is my blocks for the monthly Rainbow Scrap Challenge. This month is dark green, but I'm going to just pull all my greens. I also have started cutting the fabrics for another 3 yard quilt, so I'd like to get to that too. I'll share a few pictures in the post below. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend I caught up with my March Hope daily blocks today, since I didn't get one done yesterday.

Scrap Mystery pieces so far: March Hope quilt blocks so far. I'm going to run the colors of the blocks diagonally and have yellow diamonds in the center of the quilt with white half diamonds along the edge of the quilt: The Snoopy/Cloud 3 Yard quilt: Closeup of the Snoopy quilt:

Hi CJ- gee you have been busy!!!! The snoopy quilt is absolutely adorable - colors are perfect and i love the red sashing. The double border is so sweet too. Thank you.....thank you for what?? I really was not a big fan of how the March hope quilt looked on Pat Sloanes web site, but I love how you have added the yellow diamonds and the green and cream blocks. They really seem to make it all pop and add a dramatic statement to the quilt top. Love your eye for color and pattern....nice job. What a nice color variety with the scrap mystery pieces. Its a very dramatic look- but that is what scrappy is all about right? Looks good- cannot wait to see what it all looks like when you are done. Good luck with that black and decker iron. I have one that is old as the hills and works just fine.
Ruth, your memory is spot on....I knew we lost Meg last year sometime, but messed up dates. Think I might have some more info/details but it does not matter. I wonder if Janets name was not mentioned in the obit because of her medical status- how many actually knew she existed?? I know Meg was a most dedicated mom to her, and loving grandmother to Devin. But obituaries are the work of the author, who can include or omit information and no one would be the wiser. I do remember looking up that obituary last year and, knowing Megβs birthday from this site, was able to figure out it was her.
Spoke to Dd about the baby quilt....think I am going to see if I can free motion the cloud pattern I found and make that work. If not, I will end up doing diagonal lines, which will look fine- but am really looking to add a youthful element to this quilt. Practice, practice, practice......

CJ, that was definitely a great bargain on those soups. We bought some last week that were on sale but not as good a sale as you got. And I'm sure you know that I LOVE the snoopy quilt. The others are beautiful too but the Snoopy...well yes, my favorite for sure
I just spent an hour sitting at the mailbox waiting for the mailman because we were expecting two packages. In email it said they were out for delivery and expected to be here today between 10 and 2. I don't know if he'd been there already or not but the packages weren't there. I did get other mail but don't know when it was from because I haven't been to the mailbox for 10 days. I'd bet he delivers Saturday packages on Sunday which I know is odd but we've received packages on Sunday before and wondered if he delivered packages either late for Sat or early for Mon if he already had the Mon ones that is. I should have taken my crocheting with me. I could have gotten at least 3 coasters done in that time
