Good morning fellow crafters!
Ruth- yes that seems to happen a lot when we are posting with each other. Did you ever figure out what color yarn to use for your next pair of fingerless gloves?
Meg- it's always good to hear from you! You amaze me- just passively mentioning that you broke your wrist 2 years ago- and you still do so much crochetting. Bet that V Stitch afghan is looking so pretty.
CJ- I saw that falling charms tutorial the other day! So cute and a nice way to use up a charm pack. It's going to be adorable- what size are you planning on making?
Phyl- what are you doing today....I am sure you are busy.
Funny, just the other day on MSQ I saw that falling charms tutorial. It's adorable- and actually I do have a charm pack I could use for that. Will have to see if they still have that as I would need more than one charm pack. Got some banking to do today and a few local errands to run. THis is the second time I have made embroidered pillow cases. I made some about 20 years ago when I still had a household of kids....and chose the pattern I bought for the pillowcases because it was a single color border....I did not have to think just stitch! THese pillowcases are only 3 different stitches and are butterflies and lady bugs. I bought them on a whim- actually when we were on vacation and I was hoping to have another hand sewing project to keep me out of trouble.
Off to get my day started. Have a great day! Ginny

Good morning Ginny, Thanks for getting us started for another week. I am having a lazy morning. In a little while I am going out to lunch with a group of ladies from church. We do this once a month.
The V stitch afghan is coming along well. I made a mistake last night and had to frog rip it ripit 2 rows. So I didn't get much done yesterday. I spent so much time crocheting on Saturday that I more or less took a break yesterday.
Devin is off school this week and he has a bad cough so it is a good week to stay home.
I wish you all a great day and a great week.

Ginny, I do think that quilts and embroidered pillow cases are just such great things to make. They become such wonderful family heirlooms. I'll have to ask my sister whatever happened to the quilt my mother had. She had it store in her cedar chest since 1951. It's a sad story but she used it for my baby brother who died that year at the age of six months of something that is an easy fix nowdays. She right away put it into that cedar chest and my sister may have it or it could have even got tossed by my brothers who didn't know the story behind it or value of quilts in general.
The only crafting I did yesterday was to make a crochet dishcloth simiar to those diagonal knitted ones. It took patience because I didn't stitch in the very last stitch on each row after the third row becuase it was hard to see and find. Finally found out my mistake and it turned out very nece. Dh thought I should make some because he loves the knitted ones and thought they would make nice things for him to use when taking hot things out of the microwave.
I hope you all have a great day. I know Phyl is busy with all she does. Meg probably got up early to get Devin ready for school and drive him. CJ is comtemplating fabric and Ginny is driving children and doing her errands.
Ginny, no I never did decided on the next pair of gloves. It's on my list to make a pair today after a hat or two to add to my donation pile and make some "ahead" food and peel more wallpaper in one of the bathrooms. And more of the dishcloths. I'm going to try what one person calls the star stitch and said it's the same as the trinity stitch. I might even start a dishcloth on knitting needles even though knitting goes slow for me. I can do that while watching tv with dh.
So have a great day and great week. I need to rewrite my prayer list too.

Meg, I didn't see you stop in. You must have been typing while I was reading Ginny's message and starting mine. Sorry to hear Devin isn't feeling well on his week off school. I hope he feels better soon. Have a good time having lunch with the ladies.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are doing well today Meg - I like to crochet granny squares too. I've made a few small baby blankets that are just one big granny square. Hope Devin gets better soon and that you had a good time at your lunch. Ginny - I remember learning to cross stitch in Home Economics in Junior High School. We made an apron using gingham fabric and then cross stitched in the blocks. I also had a nice older neighbor lady who would invite all of the neighborhood girls over (when we were in Junior High School) and we all made embroidered pillowcases. Good memories. Ruth - It's so sad if that quilt of your mother's is lost. I hope maybe it's still with the family. Hope you are enjoying your crocheting today. Phyl - Hope you're doing well. I finished the little 6 inch block today and while I was making it I realized I was not enjoying the process at all. And I thought to myself "why am I doing this if I don't enjoy it?". So I've decided to stop this quilt along, it's just not for me. I'm glad I realized it after only 5 (of 48) blocks. I'll go back to my original idea to use this Little House on the Praire fabric to make a house or schoolhouse block quilt. I also finished the Falling Charms quilt and it was really easy. I think it only took me about 3 hours total, maybe even less. The only cutting was the 2 1/2 strips and I needed about 12-14 of those (width of fabric). Then it was just a bunch of straight sewing. I took a little time figuring out my layout and then put the rows together and numbered them so I would make sure to sew them together correctly. With the one Charm Pack there were 6 blocks across and 7 rows down. Each block finishes about 7 inches so the quilt is about 42 inches wide by 49 inches long. A nice lap size quilt. I'm not sure if I'll put a border on it, or just bind it.

Hi Ruth, I think we ere posting at the same time. Just got home from lunch which was very nice and good to get out. A developer is re building a shopping center which has been empty for years. There is going to be several restaurants which have not all opened yet. The one we went to is a Mexican restaurant lots of room, I think they may eventually have other food outlets there like a coffee shop. They have lots of outdoor seating. We ate indoors and I had fish tacos. A lot of Mexican food I am not familiar with so don't know what to order. But the tacos were good.
I hope I have the energy to crochet tonight. If I start another audio book I am sure I can get a few rows done. Devin is hopefully recovering from his cold. I will try an take him to the park this week so that he can climb and burn up some energy.
Have a good evening everyone.

CJ, I agree completely. Why do something if it's not enjoyable and it's not something that HAS to be done. YOu are really speedy in your quilting. You got the whole thing done in 3 hours...wow.
Meg, yes little boys do have a lot of energy and need to run and climb sometimes.
I just finished bleaching my countertop. Some meat juice got on it so I wanted to kill any bacteria. I have a septic so I don't put any bleach down the drain, I just use paper towels and toss them in the garbage. So my whole countertop is going to look so nice and clean. I also peeled potatoes for mashed tatoes for dinner and we'll have pork chops and a veggie. We eat late so it'll be about another hour
I made a new list on my online files for the things I want to get crocheted in April. I want to get all the things done that I need to get done for birthdays and new babies then I'll work on the donation things and things I want to make just because and for other gifts. So back to crocheting. Have a great evening and I'll see you all later.
Meg, I'm glad you had a good time at the lunch. I love Mexican food.

GOod evening! Nice to see all the posts....I am sure we will hear from Phyl when she comes up for air from her busy day.
Meg, glad that the luncheon was so nice. I agree with you about Mexican food- which I do usually enjoy- but some of it all seems so similar. I do not understand the differences between the dishes at all. Hope that Devin is feeling better and that you can get some reading and crochetiing time in!
Ruth, I love your Dh for encouraging you to do more crafting! (Sounds like a great man to me!). Now your counter top is all nice and disinfected- it's hard to keep up with everything sometimes. Hope that your dinner was great!! You have found the way to get things done, and that is to prioritize them on a list- and get some kind of schedule worked out. Hope that you have a fun evening crochetting.
CJ- wow you work quickly! That's the great thing about the falling charms- really no cutting and just straight sewing. Have you figured out what kind of border to do on it? And I echo what Ruth said, if you are not loving the project stop! Why continue a project if it is not what you want to work on? THanks for the reminder of what Home EC used to be (does anyone even learn how to sew anymore in school?). Yes, I remember learning how to sew in junior high- but by then I had already done a lot of sewing, so it was all review.
School is closed this week. No bus of kiddies for me! Please continue to pray for DD and her family. They saw another house this afternoon, but the houses are selling in hours. They have good credit. (Great credit!) and are good buyers- but it's just such a tight market.
THink I will get to work on those pillowcases tomorrow. I also want to see if I can get another charm pack from a set I bought several months ago- that falling charms quilt would be PERFECT for that.
Have a great evening Ginny

Ginny, I didn't realize you are having a vacation this week. I used to love back in NY when the kids had their Easter vacation. Mostly what I remember from home ec is one of the others in the class kept cutting my thread as I was trying to thread my sewing machine and she ended up cutting my thumb. I still have a scar. Also one year we were making skirts and my mother bought me courderoy fabric. Well you know what happened. I ended up with the nap going one way on one part and the other way on the other. I remember the cooking classes too where we always made choc chip cookies. Yes I don't know a lot about Mexican food but at the hospital where I worked they sometimes had a chimichanga bar. It was wonderful. You could have all you could pile on the plate at one run thru and it also entailed a salad type bar also so I put two chimis on the plate and piled salad high on top of that with cheese, dressing, and sour cream. It was delicious. Only managed to get that one time because we didn't often have time to go to the cafeteria but I often thought of how nice it would be if I ended up there on a chimichanga day. Ginny, I make tons of lists . This file I made today, I moved all the patterns for the things I'm going to make into it. That way I don't have to search for what I want in other files. I've prayed for your dd and dsil's intentions twice so far today. I do pray that they get one that will work great for them. And yes, I heard that houses are going fast right now. Spring is always the best time to sell. I have a friend that listed her house last week and it's sold already. I think the first people that looked bought it and paid at least the asking price.

Good afternoon fellow crafters.I guess everyone is busy crafting. I did a little this morning but very little. Dh has one of his very severe head pains and can't seem to get rid of it. Dr said it's a nerve pain and gave him meds but they don't work. So hopefully he's asleep now and when he wakes the pain will be gone. I've straightened up some but don't want to make noise so I'll just have to sit and crochet...great hardhip you think? You're right, it's not. I hate that it's because of dh being in pain though.
See you all later.

Good afternoon! Oh dear, I cannot see the other posts as I am on my phone. So I will be brief.
Ruth, thanks so much for the prayers, they are needed and cherished. I give you a ton of credit for making lists, it does help you get things in order. I know I can easily forget what I wanted to make, like those pillowcases. How has your weather been? I know you had mentioned getting out to walk to the mailbox a few weeks ago, are you able to do that?

Yes, Ruth it's a great hardship having to stay put and spend the afternoon crocheting! What project are you working on today? I will pray that Dh's headache passes quickly and does not come back tomorrow.
Hi to Phyl, CJ and Meg. Ginny

Ginny, thank you so much for the prayer for dh. He was able to get to sleep and when he woke his head pain was gone. It's pretty much his whole head. It starts in the cheek, the jaw around to the ear and back of the neck and under the jaw. In other words practically the whole right side of the head.I'm so thankful he feels better.
Today I actually drove down to the mailbox and the yarn I need for the baby blanket was there so now I can start on that. I haven't actually opened the package yet so I'm hoping it will work anyway. So today so far I've only worked on my dishcloth in progress and have been doing some reading. This evening I hope to work on a couple things after dinner and kitchen cleaning.I'm not sure what dinner is going to be yet in fact so I guess I should think more about that.
Ginny when I used to walk down to the mailbox and back was at least four years ago. It's only 0.6 miles but coming back is all uphill. I used to be able to walk down and back two times in a row. Now I could get down there fine but I'm afraid that if I get down there I might not be able to get back up all those hills because I'm definitely not in shape right now. I quit doing it for two reasons. One there was a dog that ran loose and always threatened to bite. He actually did take hold of my leg one time but luckily didn't sink in his teeth. Also I was in a store and ran in to one of the women I used to work with who lives in my neighborhood and she said she knew I walked to the mailbox every day. For some reason that didn't set right with me and I hated that people noticed things like that. Haven't walked since but I do need to start. Who cares if the neighbors see me. I need the exercise and I could listen audio books or cd's while walking.
How about you. Have you crocheted or worked on your pillowcases?
I have to send my sister an email and ask her if she has that quilt I mentioned. She never knew that brother because he was born and died about 8 years before she was born so she wouldn't have even known about the quilt I don't think.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today
Ginny - Glad to hear you are enjoying your time off and I'll keep hoping things work out for your DD on the house purchase. Hope the pillowcases are coming along.
Ruth - How excited to get yarn in the mail I hope your husband is feeilng better. I agree with you that it's kind of unsettling when people notice things about our behavior or activities. I'm pretty private so I keep to myself since the neighbors I was closest to are all gone now.
Meg and Phyl - Hope you're doing well
My sister-in-law and I planned to go to a Quilt Shop to check on lessons on their longarm machine (Handi-Quilter Avante). The owner will teach us how to use it and then we can come back later and rent time on the machine. I really want to do this so I can get some of my quilts finally quilted.
We drove up to the store and there were no cars there and we found a sign on the door saying the shop was closed today, tomorrow and Thursday. We figure she's probably watching her grandchildren during the school holiday. So it was disappointing, but we regrouped and headed to another quilt store and I found some discounted fabric there and a few notions. My sister-in-law found some fabric too.
I'm not sure about a border on the Falling Charms quilt. I may just bind it in the material I used for the strips, so I don't have to find border fabric to match.
Take care everyone.

OH! YOU MEAN I AM SUSPOSE TOCOME UP FOR AIR? THANKS FOR LETTING ME KNOW I DIDN'T KNOW THAT. LOL
evening everyone. we did go to sew and sew today. I did work on some strips I had cut out. added another boarder to the one quilt I am working on.it is just a little bit bigger then a baby more like a youth size. Then the other quilt is a baby quilt. the 3RD one I started is going to be a baby quilt. I don't have enough fabric it will be like a car seat size. they are all out of the same fabrics. the first pattern is called naptime. the second one is just strips sewed together. the strips are 2 x 6 inches. the third one I am doing a rail fence pattern.
still working on the easter baskets. they may not get done. next time I will use lighter batting.
I agree if a pattern is not working out don't do it. no matter what kind of crafting it is.
I think hanna is out for vactation thursday, friday, and Monday.so won't have to worry about getting her on the bus. phyl
