Oh I have a question for you quilting experts...the pattern for the bowls says use warm tater batting. Is that something available here in the US. I see the one woman in one of the tutorials is in Australia. Or is there another batting that can be used in the microwave?

I bought one of those "baskets" at a quilt show, but I haven't used it yet. I have to admit I'm kind of leery of putting it in my microwave.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today
Ginny – Your trips sounds like it was really nice, I’m glad you enjoyed the show and the quilt shop. You will love the Falling Charms quilt – it was so quick and easy. Let us know what colors you pick and what your Charm Pack fabrics are.
Ruth – That quilt with the crochet and fabric is very pretty. All of your cooking sounds good.
Meg – Hope the walker is helping with your PT. I’m happy to hear you have gotten so much crocheting done
Phyl – Glad to hear the Easter baskets are coming along.
The embroidering I’m doing is on a project I started years ago. A local quilt shop had a Block of the Month Redwork Club. Each month they gave you the redwork pattern, muslin, border fabric and embroidery floss. Each month had a different color floss and matching border fabric and was themed to match the month. I finished March and started April and that the farthest I ever got LOL. Here’s a link to some of Cathy Parker’s patterns (some of these are patterns I have to do):
shop.quiltropolis.net/stores_app/Browse_dept_items.asp?Shopper_id=5495281619405495&Store_id=1048&Page_id=17&categ_id=79&parent_ids=0&name=Quilting+Bee+Designs
I went to a quilt shop today to sign up for a class next week. The class is on Binding quilts. They are teaching several different ways to bind a quilt, so it sounds like I'll get some good instruction and information. I only have to bring my needles, thread and scissors, so that makes it easy.
I hope to get to the other shop again soon to get the longarm machine lessons set up. I really want to try to get some of my quilt tops quilted this year and then I'll be able to bind them myself.
Take care everyone!

Good evening!!
Phyl- so glad that you were there for a real fire drill- it's important to know what to do and where to go in the event of an emergency. I hope you never need to use that knowledge. Glad that the first Easter basket is done- I am sure it's adorable. You are an expert now, so the second one should go very quickly. Several years ago a friend and I went to a demonstration of the clothesline baskets. Of course they had you make one there too. I very quickly declared that this was NOT my craft, and although I finished my work, swore I would never do that again. My friend, who did a bit better than I did came to the same conclusion after she brought her basket done. THey are pretty- but also a pain in the neck.
Hey Ruth- how did the calzones turn out? Back to yesterday's lentil soup- I love it, but Dh is not a big fan, so I usually make pea soup. I would much rather have lentil of navy bean soup. Ah the joys of winter comfort foods!! Next time I go near cannoli, I will send mine your way. I must be wierd, but I do not like them at all. Yes, I did find an online tutorial.....its posted above. Think I will attempt one of those cereal bowl microwave pads tomorrow.
I just placed an order for fabric from MSQ- using up the gift cards given to me (plus some extra ....Opps!). It's been a long day and I am tired. I just noticed we went to a third page and I am still on page 2. So I will leave this post and see who else was here. Ginny

CJ- I am excited for you that you have signed up for a class on binding quilts. Yes, there are several different ways to do that. It's a personal choice. According to my quilting expert friend Marge, you bind the way that works best for you. BUt I am sure that you will get good advice. It's great that you will be long arming for yourself also- what a feeling of accomplishment you will have getting a quilt ALL DONE!!
Ok, gotta go. Have a great evening Ginny

I hope I can see the page 3 or I will forget all I wanted to say.
CJ, good for you in signing up for both the long arm and the binding class. I did see that batting on Amazon and was wondering if that one was the correct one so thank you for clarifying that. And good for you also in working on those old UFO's. I know it feels good to finish something you started in the past.
Ginny, I didn't make the calzones after all. I made lasagna instead. I still had a half container of ricotta and realized I couldn't make a second cheesecake because I had no more cream cheese so I had to make lasagna to use that ricotta up and dh loves both she he'll be happy. As for the lentil soup well dh had always turned up his nose at lentils also. Then out of the blue he said I should make lentil soup so I did and he loved it and has eaten it since. He did mention split pea the other day but then he told me to make lentil. We've started eating quinoa this year too and we both like that. It was a little off putting looking at it at first but it's full of plant protein and a very good choice in foods.
Meg, I, too, hope that the walker will work out. I'm sure you won't need it all the time but it's good to have to steady yourself when you need that.
Phyl, It's always a great idea to be prepared so the fire drill is a good thing. It also sounds like you're prepared for Easter or close anyway. Yes teenagers are much harder to get gifts for than 8 year olds.
Also Ginny, good that you got to use those gift cards.
I probably won't put the bowl holder in the microwave either because I wouldn't want anything to boil over onto it and stain it but I think that as soon as you get a bowl out of the micro with hot pads, putting it in that bowl holder would be a great thing. It would be pretty and also you could sit and hold the bowl in it and not burn your hands.Right now dh uses a dishtowel and since I made the dishcloths the last few days he's been using those. They're heavy ones and I make them large.
I got my fingerless gloves started and will work on them the rest of the evening. It's not 7 here yet so I have time to work on it and start a hat which I might also get done tonight.I like to use the long or spike stitch when making hats. It's easy and it really livens up a plain hat.
Well gonna go work on that. Have a great evening everyone. I hope we see Meg later this evening when she has a chance to come in.

So I'm working on the gloves and I realized...when yo make a hat you make one and it's done. You make a glove and you still have to make another. Ok. I'll quit complaining...back to work

Hello everyone. I am having a hard time keeping up with the posts this week. I have read all your posts and see everyone is busy as usual. My crafting today consisted of working on the containers of yarn which I got out of my closet before I fell and they have been out ever since. Today I worked on sorting yarn what to keep and what to give away. I have 3 plastic containers and I have managed to downsize to 2. At least my V stitch afghan is helping to use up some of the yarn. I have not had time to work on it today.
Ruth, If you are making lentil soup and crusty bread don't forget to invite me. I love lentil; soup and I have WW recipe that I have used for years. I haven't made it for awhile and I should make a batch because it is not difficult. Sometimes I knit booties and like your gloves there at 2 of them. Devin will be 9 at the end of this month. He is not the perfect child he does like to argue if he doesn't get what he wants. Most of the time he is well behaved. I haven't used my walker much yet. I did take it with me when I went to PT on Wed. It has been in the car since and I will probably keep it there for now and just use it when I go some place. I do have another walker which they gave me when I had my knee replacements a few years ago. They also sent me one of those walkers to use at home so I have 3 walkers and I don't need 3 so I will probably find someone who needs one.
Ginny, if you are making pea soup I will come and visit you. I love soup I am just lazy about making it. I hope you have enjoyed your week off work.
cj, that is great that you have signed up for a class though as much quilt and do other crafting I would think you probably could lead a class. But we are never too old to learn something new and I am always willing to learn something new. That's why I love my Knit Wits Gp. there is always someone who can help when needed. I have been trying to improve my crocheting.
Phyl. I haven't noticed the M&Ms as at Easter I like the little Cadburys eggs. I should stay away from the Easter chocolate but I am sure I will eat some. Hope you find your M&Ms.
Now I must think about bed. Good night everyone.

Good morning! Babysitting right now and have a bit of a breather as DGS just went in for a nap. Yes, I researched that microwaveable batting online and will see if I can get it or something similar at Joanns. (Got a leftover gift card for there too!). I agree Ruth, that using the bowl holders after the food is removed from the microwave is a good idea. WHat is love is that you can make a whole matching set to go with kitchen decor and dishes and look so coordinated! Ruth I also love lasagna......I am afraid it will take me 3 days of driving to get to you and it will be all gone. Phyl - hope you can find some cute earrings for the girls! Sounds as though you had a rare quiet day. We all need one from time to time. Ruth- how long have you and Meg "known" each other? Indeed I am looking forward to my MSQ order- and the knowledge that I really have my next quilting project set up and figured out. Ok DGD just came up.... Gotta go Ginny

Meg, we do have a lot of posts on the thread this week.. Especially since there are only five of us. We're a great group. Ginny said the other day she loves each of us and I say the same. It's a great thread to be on and I really thank you again, Meg,for telling me about it and inviting me here.
No, no child is prefect but Devin sounds like a very well behaved boy. I can't believe he's going to be 9 already. So Ginny, Meg and I have known each other since before Devin was born so that's at least 9 years. And I noticed her on the WW board before she started the knitting thread there.
Meg, I smile when I see you wanting to downsize your yarn stash. You wouldn't believe the yarn I have.
Last evening I did some crocheting but then my book called me. It's not a book I would normally read but somehow it called me and it's very introspective. It really makes you think about being honest with yourself. Not only on the topics of the book but in all things.
And Meg, you sure are invited too. Wouldn't it be nice if we really could get together. I've read a book series in which the people are all knitters and get together once a week at the yarn shop, knit together and then have dinner with food that is brought in by the person in charge of the dinner for that week with side dishes or dessert and beverages brought in by the others. One always brings wine but I don't drink alcohol so wouldn't care about that but it would be great to have a group like that.I'm all for eating
Meg, you one time sent me a pattern for the booties you make. I've never tried them though after your hard work of sending me the pattern because it calls for picking up stitches and I don't know how to do that so now with Youtube videos I can watch and learn and make those. Again, as you said, after one you have to do another. I've heard about ways to do both at once but with my limited knitting skills I'd have to do one at a time.
Today is Good FRiday and I'm thinking of what Jesus did for us this day dying a horrible death on that cross so that we all can be forgiven of our sin. He was victorious over death and overcame death when He rose on Easter morning showing that because of His work for us we can overcome eternal death also. Thank you Lord for saving my soul

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today
Ruth - I laughed at your comment about finishing a hat and you're done, but finishing a glove and there's still another one to make
Ginny - Hope you enjoyed the grandkids today.
Meg - I'm sure it felt good to get your yarn sorted.
Phyl - I like the plain M&Ms the best, and it's true they are hard to find - so many different flavors now.
I always buy a few pieces of Easter candy each year as a treat for myself. I like the Russell Stover Marshmallow Eggs the best. All your talk about Lentil and Pea Soups, neither of which I like. I've always wished I did like beans because they are so good for us, but I was never exposed to them as a child and just don't care for the taste of them.
It's so nice that several of you have "known" each for so long. I appreciate you letting me be in your group too
I did some quilt top organizing today. I bought a large King Size piece of batting at JoAnn's yesterday and I spread it out on a spare bed that I have. Then I layered all my finished quilt tops from largest to smallest on the bottom piece of batting. As I laid them down I measured them so I would know what size they are. Then I covered them up with the top piece of the batting. I had read this was a better way to store quilts than in plastic containers.
I do still have some of my already sandwiched (quilt top, batting and backing) quilts stored in a plastic container, so I should think about getting them out.
I'm hoping having this list of the quilts with the sizes will give me an idea of which ones I can quilt on the longarm, which ones on my own sewing machine, and which ones I'd like to hand quilt.
After going through all the quilts, and matching them against the list I had made, there is one quilt top missing - I can't figure out where it went
Take care everyone!

I like the plain M&M's best also. CJ, good for you in making that list of quilt tops. Isn't it strange how things can disappear like your one quilt top did? I have things disappear like that and sometimes never do find them. I hope you find your quilt top. Ok now I'm off to clean the kitchen and after that crocheting CJ, since you don't like lentil or pea soup I'll make something else for you

afternoon, we went to good friday church services today. we were out In an hour. we don't go to the catherdal because that is over 2 hours long. they do a lot of readings. not sure if the bishop is at that service or not.
I finished the second basket a few minutes ago. didn't take long because yesterday I did most of it.
I am just doing just a little bit of candy.the girls are at carey's mom house in wasusa. between grandma and aunt Jamie they will probably get alot. I do have orders not to give the girls to much sugar.
after I clean up my sewing mess (not today) I will figure what I want to take to sit and sew Tuesday. also what project I need to work on at home.
cj bet that top is somewhere In the house. probably folded up In something.
another thing not good for quilts is storing them in a cedar chest. also don 't put them on wood shelves. has something to do with what the wood gives off. do not ever put quilts on a painted wood shelves. store them in a pillowslip first, some kind of bag you made or like cj is doing. we aren't even suppose to store our fabric In plastic totes. a lot of us do. hey have to have some place to put the stuff. I don't have enough closets or dresser drawers store my fabric.
have a good evening phyl

Phyl, I didn't know that about not putting quilts in a cedar chest. That's what my mother did with the one I mentioned the other day. I did ask my sister about it. She said my brother had the chest so I messaged him and he said "the cedar chest finally died a natural death and had a decent burial". He's strange. I thought cedar chests lasted forever. So he said that when he got the chest from my other brother there was nothing in it and said "maybe the quilt died too". Now after what Phyl said maybe that's so but I'm skeptical. I always did think that a lot of young women back in the "old days" stored quilts in their "hope chests" which were cedar chests.
