Monday Monday!!!!
Looks like I am the first to check in since this am....I will go back later on and refresh what CJ posted last night. I am glad she was able to get the old machine up and running- wonder why it is /was acting so strangely?? Guess the new machine does not offer the wavy stitch that the old machine does? Overall, how happy are you with your new Brother?
I am tired. Its allergy season and that usually does drain me. Got Bible study tonight and am going for a walk with a woman from study before. I am slowly getting my banking switchover taken care of.. Perhaps by the end of the week I will have most of the changes made. Some were super easy, some very involved.. I just chatted with Missouri and my quilt will be about 8 weeks- which is good timing for me to complete it before the little one is born. They said there is no problem with my quilt, if necessary (and it might not be) they will add extensions to the backing so that it fits the machinery. That is a relief. The quilt top should arrive tomorrow. I am excited to see what they do with it!!! Guess now it leaves me to work on the falling charms quilt and get that done. I did get some embroidery done last night.
Take care Ginny

Well so far it's starting out to be a good week for you Ginny. I'm glad you found your seeds and really glad your quilt meets the specifications needed for them to quilt it. I'm sorry though, to hear that your allergies are acting up. And it's great that your banking changes are working out well.ONe of the things I mentioned in my lost post is that I would love to change banks to a closer one since our bank closed the ATM we used and now have to drive further to do anything with the bank. I am not changing solely because of all the phoning I would have to do to get all the direct deposts to the new bank. And dh would probably have to call personally to change his and I know he's not going to do that. He hates talking on the phone more than I do.
CJ, I hope you can get your machine to work well so that you're more comfortable doing that wavy stitch. You have a lot of work on your list to complete before the month is over.
I did manage to say that I got the pocket shawls completely done including the sewing on of the pockets and all the end weaving. I had made one of the dgds a tote bag as one of her gifts and put the grommets on and got them in the wrong spot...so much for doing it without measuring thinking I could see where it was supposed to be placed by just looking at it. So anyway I'm making her a new one and will just use the crooked one to hold some of my yarn to carry around.
It's so amazing to me that in just one week a LOT of the snow has melted. Of course it's supposed to snow again tomorrow but after that it will warm up again. Right now I'd be able to get our truck out. Not therin car yet.
I have a lot of household cleaning on my list for today. I don't know how much of it I'll get done. I want to do a thorough cleaning of each room before real spring gets here. Of course I always have a lot of plans but often don't get them all done.
Last night when I wasn't crocheting I was looking at youtubes about growing plants. There is some interesting info there.
WAiting for dh to wake up so I can clean the kitchen without waking him.

Ruth, what kind of plants were you looking at youtubes for? Are you hoping to start a vegetable garden from seed? And when you get all that household cleaning done in your house, I could use help!!! Glad so much snow has melted. Hopefully enough snow will melt in the next day or so that your car can be liberated. So glad the pocket shawls are done. Are the tote bags a lot of work? Sorry you have to make another one, but its nice that you are able to use the the one crooked one to help store your yarn.
By the end of tomorrow I should have all but one entity straightened out with the banking change. Just hope I am getting it all done in time, as they did not give a lot of time and some organizations are looking for 6 weeks to make the change. Have a a good night Ginny

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today We've had a couple of mild days here. I went out yesterday and did some grocery shopping and ran a few other errands. I'm happy I don't have to grocery shop again for several weeks, it's just not much fun anymore. I finished piecing the blocks for the March Hope quilt and joined all the rows together. I also finished joining the strips for the inner and outer border so they are ready to be sewn on and I'm finished with this top. I'm pretty happy with how the colors worked out. Some of my rows didn't join together that well, and that's always my least favorite part of piecing a quilt top. I used to hate joining the long strips (for the borders) but now I really don't mind that. I hope to get that top finished tomorrow so I can start cutting backings and battings for the quilt tops I want to get machine quilted before the end of the month. I still have a week left, so I'm sure I can get them done since none of them are that large. Hope you are all getting to do some crafting. Take care

CJ, it sounds like you're making good progress on your quilt tops.I'm glad you got your grocery shopping done for awhile. i know how you hate to go and do that.
I didn't know Christmas Tree Shops sold yarn until just recently several of the people on crochet groups have been posting pictures of yarns they got there. Just today they posted some Lion Brand Summer Kiss yarn that is usually $8.00 in most storesbut at CTS it's $1.99. Of course we don't have one of those stores and also I've never seen nor used that yarn so don't even know if I'd want it if we did have one of those stores here. And I also have enough yarn.Of course I have to get creative with the yarn I have because of the problem I've mentioned...not having enough of a color that I need.

CJ- I am sure that the March hope quilt looks spectacular and that any issues with the rows joining are minimal. You have posted pictures of your quilt tops before, and they are so pretty.... you are your own biggest critic for sure. Of course, once you quilt that top you will notice flaws less anyway. Think your color selection for that quilt was really nice, a cheery spring time quilt. I know shopping is not nearly as much fun anymore, and it seems stressful. Must be a relief that you are done with it for several weeks. Now you can focus on quilting or whatever else you want to do.
My trainee passed. Then I attended a funeral this afternoon - a woman from bible study lost her mom after a long illness.
Hoping that things will settle down now. I am hoping to go to church and use their large tables to make the quilt sandwich for the falling charms quilt. Using the large tables (doubled up) will make it much easier to work with.
Have a good night all Ginny

Ginny, we do grow tomatoes from seed every year. Last year we didn't have much luck with them. I don't know what the problem was.On youtube I was mainly looking at how to grow herbs. I haven't really been able to find basil leaves but last year I grew thyme and had a nice rosemary plant but it suddenly died. It did last a couple years and I like how the plants look and smell but I don't often use rosemary in cooking so I didn't even keep the little petals or whatever you would call the part you save and use. I don't use much thyme either. I like it but dh doesn't. I do like to put it on my chicken breasts so I might try growing it again this year. One thing I saw that was interesting was to put potting soil in eggshells and plant your seeds in there. It nourishes the soil and the little plant and of course it's also a plant holder then. Then you can just gently crush the shell when the plant gets large enough and it's warmer outdoors and plant the whole thing thus nourishing that soil also as the shell decomposes. I'll have to start saving my eggshells and soon because I want to plant the tomato seed probably on the 15th of April.
This year again they extended the due date for income tax. Not as long as last year though. Last year I did get mine done early and sent it in even before the usual date of April 15th. I think I'll get busy and get mine done. I have a lot of plans for this week. One day we'll be going for a grocery pickup. I'm not sure what day but I think probably Thursday. So maybe Wed I'll do tax....maybe. I'd like to have it done before April 1st though. I always have to pay. I guess I could have them take money out of our retirements to let them hold onto it for the year buy why let them hold it when I can hold it myself.

Ruth - I thought you'd like to hear this information I received in an email from Missouri Star Quilt Company: "And finally, our newest sister company, One Big Happy Yarn Co., launched their online site back in October. Just like Missouri Star, One Big Happy is committed to bringing you the best knitting and crochet supplies, free tutorials posted every Thursday on YouTube, and plenty of inspiration. They'll soon become your favorite “Local Yarn Store” no matter where you live! We are excited to announce that, later this summer, they will be opening a retail shop in Hamilton. Like their online store, this shop will be full of yummy yarns, a large array of needles and hooks and all the fun and functional tools you need to create your next masterpiece. We’ll announce the store’s official grand opening date soon, but in the meantime be sure to check out their online store." Now you can watch tutorials each week

Hello Everyone It's a rainy day here, but not cold. They say we needed the rain, but I see it laying in parts of my yard, so maybe I didn't really need it where I live. I finished my March Hope quilt top this morning and was happy to be done. It turned out to be a really big quilt - 69x80 inches. This is the third largest quilt top I've ever made! I laid it out over a full size bed and it fits really well for a comforter size on that bed. I'm happy with the inner yellow border and the floral outer border and overall with the finished top. I don't know how people make those larger quilt tops, it's really difficult wrangling all that material around and on the sewing machine. I'll try to put up my design wall and hang it up and take a picture once the sun is out again. My design wall is 72x72, so some of it will hang off the end Now I can cut some backings and battings for the next set of quilts to be machine quilted. Hope all of you are doing well and getting to do some crafting

Good afternoon all CJ thank you for the info on that yarn company. It's strange that with all the crochet groups that I participate in (or at least read)no one has ever mentioned this company. (I just hit a wrong button and erased my post) I'll definitely be checking that. Yes you know how it is with looking at patterns, videos, etc. Where some people watch tv,movies or whatever I watch people crocheting or sewing on youtube. Last year I didn't even like youtube. Now I go there all the time. You sound like you're very relieved to have that quilt top done. I feel the same on my projects. There's such a feeling of accomplishment, and yes relief, to have completed something. So when you have things quilted by someone else, do they charge by the size of the quilt and maybe also by the intricacy of the pattern you choose? It would sure be tricky to get a quilt the size of the March hope one sandwiched at home. You'll need Ginny's church tables if you decide to proceed with making this into a completed quilt.
It must have snowed in the night because our road looks slushy. It's warm now so it will melt. By the time all the snow that's covering my yarn both back and front, melts the grass will have already grown and will need mowing.
Oh and I also said in my erased message that I'll probably be traveling thru Missouri somethime in the upcoming months. I have to look up and see where MSQ is in case it's near my route of travel. I'l love to stop in and look at the beautiful quilts I'm sure they have on display. I'd bet that Indiana has a lot of places where quilts are displayed too as they have a few Amish communities.
Well time to get to work. See you all later

Good afternoon,
Ruth, MSQ sent an email today announcing that their shops are opening to the public once more in early May. I know from what I have read that quilters make it a pilgrimage and plan on spending a few days checking out all the different shops and fabrics. Think I heard that there is a shop for each kind of fabric- flannels, baby fabrics, batiks etc....and of course patterns and supplies. You are absolutely right that they charge by the size of the quilt. MSQ and the long armer woman I used charge .025 a square inch- so CJ’s quilt would cost around $140 to have quilted. MSQ provides batting for the quilts sent to them, so that is a small cost savings. MSQ does not charge for different patterns but does not do custom quilting. If you wanted one quilting pattern on the border and another on the body of the quilt, that is an additional charge. So its not cheap. I was actually pretty happy with the final cost of MSQ quilting services for DD’s baby quilt, because they are providing the batting and I do not have to drive 45 minutes to drop it off and pick it up. They also offer many many stitching patterns. I think it would be neat for you and Dh to check out Hamilton Missouri, if you were close enough to do so. and or a cool quilt shop or two. Dh used to let me go into this gorgeous quilt shop in Lancaster Pa to dream and get ideas and inspiration.
CJ- yay!!!!! So happy to hear that you finished the March hope quilt. Yes its a pretty big quilt and the larger ones are a challenge to fit in a “home” machine. Do your brothers all have the same throat space?? I know I struggled with my 96 x 96 BOM- which I made on the Singer with a 6 “ throat space. Think my husky has a 9 inch space, perhaps 10. I will use it to quilt my falling charms quilt which I just measured today and is 70x 86. Got any idea how you will quilt the March hope quilt?? I am excited to see it- when you get a chance to provide us with a picture. the rain made its way up here- and its supposed to rain overnight but end in the am.
Got an email from MSQ that my quilt is in queue- and will be worked on in 6-8 weeks. That gives me time to work on the falling charms. I misplaced my quilting safety pins- which I will need for the falling charms....but found them. Guess tonight I will iron the backing fabric and get ready to assemble the sandwich.
I am kind of tired...am really looking forward to having not much to do next week. And PLEASE....remind me not to buy more fabric. In looking for my pins, I went through my fabrics and the quilts to be made. Think I need to use what I have here, before I start buying more fabric.
Don’t need any embroidery or cross stitch projects either....got enough stuff to keep me busy for a while. Ha ha ha
Have a good night all Ginny

Ginny, that's great that they provide the batting. That must mean that they make the sandwich. And I agree that driving 45 minutes to a long armer makes it entirely worth while to send it out to be quilted. If I ever do get around to making a quilt it will be nothing special so I'll just do the quilting myself using those diagonals that CJ mentioned. I could even do them in wavy.My machine is pretty basic but it does have quite a few stitches which all the machines I've owned have had and I never use any of them except maybe on a couple rare times, the zigzag.
And yes I can relate to that. I have more yarn than I'll ever use in my lifetime and I do have a lot of fabric too. I mentioned the fleece in the huge bin and I have other fleece to so just that is a big supply of fabric but I have "regular" fabric too. I did use some to line purses I made for the grandchildren and I made rice bags with some to give as gifts.
Well I guess I will have to talk dh into spending a couple days in Hamilton if it's anywhere near our route. I'm going to look it up. Oh, I've been to Lancaster but it was about a hundred years ago and I didn't even think of quilts at the time. I want to go to an Amish store like CJ goes to and also to an Amish buffet.
