Ruth, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with stitch in the ditch or the diagonal stitches or wavy stitches like CJ does so beautifully. As a matter of fact one of the quilt stitch designs offered at the quilt shop is a wavy design. Had to laugh when I saw that as they are charging .025 cents a square inch for something that CJ’s machine does all by itself. Got no idea where in Missouri Hamilton is. Jane and I have joked about a trip there- but there is nothing we would do on the way, so it seems like a silly trip. If perhaps we had something else we wanted to do on the way we might really visit Hamilton.
Got the back for the falling charms quilt ironed....am now doing a little bit of embroidery.

Hello Everyone Ginny - I'm glad to hear that MSQC has your quilt and it's in line to be worked on. Hope you can get your Falling Charms quilt sandwiched. What design are you using for that? I bet quilting that 96x96 quilt was difficult! The Falling Charms quilt sounds like it will be too. One of my Brother machines has a bit larger throat, that's the mechanical one with only the straight stitch. The other machines are smaller throats. I doubt I will machine quilt the March Hope quilt myself. It's one that would probably look nicer with an overall longarm quilting design. I'm focusing on getting the smaller tops done before I think about any of the lap size or larger. Ruth - Hamilton MO is in the northern part of the state and looks like it could be on your way east. I hope that you do get to stop there. My DB and DSIL went there a few years ago and said it was very neat with all the little stores to go in. I hope you can get to an Amish shop and buffet sometime too I saw that One Big Happy Yarn Co has their tutorial up on YouTube today, it's part 2 of a cowl pattern. Here's a link to their videos so far, looks like they do knitting too: www.youtube.com/channel/UCdnLOR1pcLyFmgi8YczRKrwPhyl and Sue - Hope you are well. I cut the backing and batting for 5 of the 6 quilts (the 6th was already done) that I want to machine quilt. And then I pressed the backing and the quilt tops again. Now I just need to sandwich them together. A few of them I can just follow along the lines of the quilt and I won't have to mark. The ones that I do mark I'd like to try using a Hera marker and see how that works. If I don't like it then I'll just go back to using painter's tape. I'm going to be using orange thread for two of these tops, pink thread for another two and a dark red for one - so this will be an interesting experiment I keep a list of all my quilt tops with the name and size. Looking at my largest quilt size (84x132) I realized again what a strange size it is. I may decide to add a border just to each side and not to the top and bottom to even it out some. This was a block of the month sampler that I did at a quilt shop in Virginia. You had to go over there one Saturday morning each month and you picked up your fabric and pattern (I can't remember the cost but it wasn't much). The blocks are a very large size. Take care everyone and have a good day

CJ, I went to their site yesterday and thought they had only knitting videos but then saw the one for the cowl. Apparently people mentioned to them that they needes d to do some crochet ones so they did that one for the cowl. I'm looking forward to others. The cowl one is something I've done on my own. It's pretty basic so I'm anxious to see what they come up with in future videos. I looked at the yarn also. They do see very good quality yarn. Some is actually a pretty good price. Since I make for children mostly I use pretty common yarns. I do have some yarn that's a little higher on the quality scale but am "saving" it...for what I have no clue.
Yes I magine a huge quilt like you mentioned would be almost impossible to quilt at home. and for the one you say is an add size, yes it's a great idea to add a border to each side. I've done that in crochet items. Yes it looks like Hamilton is right one the route we plan to take. We had planned to spend the night in Hannibal so maybe we'll revise and stay in Hamilton. Usually though, dh gets anxious to get to our destination so he may not be real happy to stop. And the whole trip depends on several factors so we'll see what happens as time goes by. The virus shouldn't be much of a problem by then but with the political situation the way it is there may be protests going on so we'd stay here where we're safe from those also.We don't plan to go until fall

My sister knew in late 2020 about MSQ opening up a yarn division....as she mused over going there. She is a bit closer than I am as she is in Ohio. Sounds like quite a Mecca for us crafters though. I checked out the youtubes and gave a thought about learning how to knit- but gee, I can hardly finish the quilts I have here and would be a fool to take on more projects. I am kind of hoping that this summer there will be less unrest in our cities. The election is over, and and perhaps those who have a propensity to cause unrest need to try to work with the system instead of trashing cities. Hope that Dh will allow you to make a stop in Hannibal Missouri, just for a day, Ruth. Even if only to check out their yarn shop.
Phyl- good to hear from you. Did you get the room cleaning finished?
CJ- I do remember you picking up some pretty thread colors to quilts your tops with. Knowing your eye for color, I am sure they will look great. I know some quilts I have done in color have become very dramatic and look good with the color accent. MY 96x96 BOM was the quilt I took to the long armer. The way I viewed it, I put approximately $200-$300 into the fabric for that quilt. And I couldn’t see ruining it on my home machine. I kind of made a promise to myself that that might be the only quilt that I see long armed, and that I will try and teach myself how to quilt after I had that done. For me it was a good decision it turned out so beautifully. I’m really glad I sent it to the long armer. Jane sent her block of the month also the same size to the same long armer, and hers turned out absolutely beautifully also. It was a great experience. My falling charm quilt I plan i’m quilting with a swirl pattern, so it’ll be a free motion design. I’ll have to practice it a little bit more but I really want to give that a try. It’s not gonna look professionally done but that quilt is going nowhere. It’ll just stay home and I’ll probably put it in the family room. I’ve never used a hera marker. Good luck with it I’m sure you’ll be fine. It would save you having to tape everything and just rely on your ruler which is what you’re doing anyway. Let us know how you like it. Ruth, it’s sort of sounds like you’re planning on going to see your son in the fall? It’s a beautiful time of year to drive, would you stop Missouri on the way to your sons state or on the way home?
Well last night I tried to work on the embroidery, and the thread is not the best quality that came with the kit. I do have a needle threader here I just need to find it. That way that’s the only way I’m gonna get that thread to go through the needle. If not I’ll have to wait till I get to Walmart this weekend and pick another one another needle threader up.
Hope everyone has a good evening!

Yes CJ does really have a knack for picking colors so I agree that the thread colors she picked will just add more beauty to her quilts.. I have a lot of needle threaders but they're mostly useless. I got them on Amazon for something like on dollar and free shipping. Got 100 of them. They have a flimsy wire to put the thread through but I have actually managed to use most of the ones I've tried so far. I really n eed to get a better one because these old eyes are not getting any youger.
I got a letter from the IRS that told me that they are sending my last stimulus check either by check or debit card. Well with all the mail I got since I haven't been to the mailbox for awhile there was no check or debit card so, of course I paniced and thought I would have to go trought all that like last year. I did their "where is my check" thing and it said (after three tries) it was directly deposited yesterday. The letter mention the amount that was sent. Well when I went to my account it had been deposited but 4 1/2 times more than the letter said had been deposited.
I had ordered another pillow from MY Pillow a couple weeks ago. it was not here today. I didn't remember if the one dh ordered was delivered by USP or by USPS but I didn't get my order from either one.I sent them an emaill. We'll see what happens.
Ginny, yes that's where we're going but driving only there then will fly back home so if we don't stop on the way maybe the next time. We plan on going every year if possible.

hi, ok when thread won.t go through the eye of a needle try a needle with a bigger hole. or may be a thread not so thick.
on my little Janome I could not get a thread through the needle.DON kept telling me use a needle with a bigger hole.at a quilt shop Don asked the owner she agreed. another lesson learned. also learned bobbins do not like thick thread.
I did not get much cleaning done, fact none, fooled around on the computer to long.
RUTH there is a Amish place called Shipshewanna(SP) has quilt shops, bakeries, motels, auctions and I don't know else. another place quilters like. have been told if auction don't touch your face, raise your hand, or you may have bought something.
when Nancy lived in Medina, Ohio we could have gone to it. could not get Don to stop. toll roads along that route. now NANCY is in Ky.
I hope to go there before I DIE.TRYING TO CONVINCE MISTER TO TAKE ME IS THE HARD PART..PHYL

Hello Hope everyone is doing well today. It's very warm here, in the 80s and sunny. I finished quilting 3 of the 6 tops I want to get down, two were with the orange thread. I hope to get the other 3 done this weekend. I was able to put up my design wall, so I took some pictures to share with you all. March Hope quilt, closeup of blocks and closeup of border fabric, which is a pretty daisy print: This was a Scrap Mystery table topper I made last year. I wish I had more of the fabric to make it larger, but that was all I had. It finishes at 24x24: Here's a top I make using up leftover gingham fabric. I used orange thread on this one and I love the border fabric - the rest is kind of wonky : Here's the Gingham quilt and a closeup to see the quilting pattern. I used orange thread on this one too and I'm happy with how it turned out: Here's a top I finished a few years ago and I embroidered the candy canes on it. I'm considering hand quilting in the white fabric around the candy canes but I'm not sure. I did machine quilt through the pink squares with a X: Take care and have a good weekend!

I love them all CJ but my favorites are the March Hope, the scrappy one and the candy cane one. Yes it is too bad that you don't have more of the fabric for the scrappy one because it is really beautiful and I'd love to make it larger too if it were mine.
I haven't got much done today craft wise. Did some usual everyday things...kitchen cleaning and cooking but I'm ready now to work on my projects.

Good evening, Ruth, found a really cute crocheted rabbit pattern in my magazine, thought of you and will post the link.
CJ- love the gingham quilt and your use of the orange thread to quilt with.....the scrap mystery quilt has that cute denim/bandana look. So adorable.....and of course the March hope quilt. I found most of the March hope quilts I had seen on Pat sloan’s site boring- LOVE yours and the introduction of yellow. The daisy fabric really ties it all together.
Phyl-i found my needle threader, crisis averted. I am trying to stay with a smaller needle for the sake of the fabric. Thanks for the advice. And Phyl, housework is very patient and will wait for you. Get your housework done tomorrow.
Looked over some craft ideas for the kids and will now leave the link for the adorable rabbit to crochet.

Ginny, i've seen that bunny pattern before and he really is very cute but using homespun to make stuffed animals is not a lot of fun. I might sometime make him in a different yarn. Thanks for the link.

Think I saw something in the pattern that other yarns can be used? ? Not sure though- and yes the bunny is so adorable. For a project like that I would have to think now of a little baby- and plan on having the adorable little bunny done in 2 years.....ha ha ha ha. Ruth would be able to make the bunny in a month or less. Yes homespun yarn is not so easy to work with, but I know you have had good luck with it for pocket shawls, I think. But I can imagine using it in a 3 dimensional project like this might be an issue. We shall see what my crafting will be today. I did just look online for the proper bobbin for DD’s sewing machine. Long story but she gave me my singer confidence quilter as a gift 10 years ago, (that is the machine that I used for my BOM). So I gave her my kenmore, a machine that I had made a lot of different projects with. It is a basic machine, but does pretty well. Anyway, in moving DSIL threw out the bobbin race (think that is the name of the part) - so I helped her find a company that sells it. I stopped in to see. Her last night, and now she needs bobbins....which I do have. So for now, got some researching done to confirm which bobbins are needed for the machine. I will put aside some bobbins that I figure will work for her. Also found an adorable food craft for the little ones- and hope to see them next weekend to make it. Will see if I can post a pic of the super simple project. Its from my magazine.

Ginny, are the bobbins the plastic ones that have one side that is larger in diameter or are they the metal bobbins? I have a lot of the metal ones and have no idea why I saved them since my Janome doesn't use that kind. I should just send them to you sometime so that you can see if they are ther right ones for your older machine or your dds" machines.Of course you said that you already told her where to get some so you may all be set with bobbins. When I did sew more I liked to have different colors on a few bobbins.
