Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store , attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity- even visiting us here to join in our posts!! There are plenty of days in which the closest we get to crafting is a visit here, so even if you have no time to craft, we would love to hear from you. We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion! So glad you are here!! Please feel free to stop in and say hello!!

Another Monday.....and guess spring is really coming as next Monday is in April. I sure have March weather here, it was insanely windy here last night. So windy that it blew over my deck table ( and shattered the top).
CJ- glad you got all your quilt tops organized. Bet your home (or at least your sewing room) looks like an Amish quilt shop!! Those gum drop grapes sound awfully good. I love the taste of Concord grapes too, but of course the seeds are an issue. Glad you also enjoyed the cotton candy grapes at one time, so everyone else here does not think I am nuts. BTW- my son has also said that sometimes the taste is not as pronounced, even within the same bunch one grape might not have the strong cotton candy taste. I saw videos of the pool noodle method of making a quilt sandwich. Its sure innovative and an inexpensive method to get the job done. If I did not have sort of an easy solution to the situation , which is on the way to an errand I have to run today anyway, I might give it a try. If you make a lot of large quilt tops it must be an easy method.
Yesterday other than watching a bunch of videos, I did get my supplies ready to lay the quilt out. Think I am going to use a combination of spray adhesive and pins. One of the videos I saw mentioned an iron on batting. That is interesting for sure....what I like about the spray is that it holds well but also allows for readjustment if you inadvertently get a wrinkle in the layers.
Enough blabbing from me. BBL Ginny

Well that was easy!!! I just got back from church, and made the quilt sandwich using the large tables. SO much easier, and really simple to get everything lined up and the quilt glided over the tables, making it easier to adjust in the middle if needed. And I did not have to crawl on the floor! The only issue was that I brought painters tape, which did not grip on the plastic table tops well, but I was able to work around that. I used spray adhesive, will unroll the quilt here and add a few more safety pins to secure it well and hopefully start to quilt it toward the middle of this week.
Hope everyone is having a great Monday. Ginny

Happy new week everyone. To a lot of us a new week or a weekend is no different than any day. Half the time I don't even know what day it is anymore just because all my days are pretty much the same.
That pool noodle methold of sandwiching a quilt sounds like it would work great.Pool noodles are so handy to have because there are so many things you can do with them. I'm glad,Ginny, that you were able to get your quilt sandwiched easily with the help of the church tables.
I can relate to that insane wind. Everyone that comes to my door mentions how much worse the wind isright here than in other spots in town and even a couple houses down. We would never be able to have a patio table and pretty much can't have anything sitting in our yard. We have our garbage bin secured to a hook with two bungee cords or even when full would be down the street. I hope the wind calms down so that we can put the garbage out for pickup tomorrow. Today is a really insane wind day but it's bringing warmth. Saturday is to be 70 degrees.
Yesterday I did complete the tooth fairy pillow and then started a hat for donating.I had it almost done when my online game called me and that was the end. I'll finish it today

Sounds like you are really used to a lot of wind there, Ruth. I too hope that the wind calms down so you can put your trash out. What a pain it is if it gets to be so windy that it knocks the trash over. if you are lucky, they garbage company sort of picks up what got scattered by the wind. Guess its good that you are in for warmer weather. April seems awfully early for 70 degrees, but then your temperature fluctuates a lot. Guess that is the joy of being retired- you do not have to be too conscious of the day of the week. When at Bible study this evening I had to grab another bulletin from last Sunday to make sure I knew when the Good Friday service is (gotta practice flute for that to accompany the hymns.). Guess my church service keeps me set on the day of the week. Those tooth fairy pillows are so adorable. I made one for DGD#1- will have to ask Dd if she wants one for DGS#1. if so, add that to my list..... Were you able to finish the hat for donation?

Yes I keep complaining about the wind but that's just how it is here. It did calm down about 3pm.
So do you get together at the church for Bible study like you used to? I know that for awhile you did it online.
I did get that hat and another done. Making a hat is very relaxing for me so being able to donate them is a blessing to me also. Spent much of the day though discussing with dh what we should do about our kitchen sink faucet that's falling apart. We were trying to decide if we wanted to order one online or drive to the other side of town to Menard's and buy one there. We would have liked to buy online from them and have it sent here but the shipping is ridiculous and PLUS they have a separate handling fee. Eventually we ordered online.

Yes we do get together at study in the fellowship hall. Last night was pretty funny. We were waiting for one woman to join us, and some lively conversation ensued while waiting for her. Oh, even church is going to attempt a coffee hour after the service, toward the end of April. They will have single serve muffins (so noone has to touch someone elses food) and the option to fellowship outside. Slow progress.
Good to hear that you finished the hat Ruth- and that its a relaxing process for you. I know some of the gift items you make are stressful for you, getting the trunk of an elephant right, or making sure that a characters eyes sit well or his stuffing holds. So having a relaxing project is good for you. Will the new faucet be delivered soon? I would imagine that you and Dh are pretty good at plumbing, having installed a new hot water tank by yourselves.
Its cold here today...wind has died down. Dd is coming here in a little bit. Always nice to see her. I know I am in for crummy weather for a few days after today, so it will be nice to have some company today. Tomorrow I can quilt. BBL
Hi to CJ, Phyl and Sue- who I hope is doing well. Ginny

It's great that you can get together in person finally.I read a thing yesterday from Medscape...they share info from many sources..that said "we're doomed to having a surge". Well they've been saying that thru all the holidays and it really hasn't happened. They cite statistics from many states on new numbers. To me those number are meaningless because if a person tests positive and doesn't become ill what does it matter. It's the hospitalizations and deaths that matter. These experts are claiming those numbers are up also.
Speaking of weather and fluctuations, today is to have a high of only 34 before the beautiful weekend temps of 69 and 70.I'm sure after that it will get cold again and we will undoubtedly have snow in April and possibly even in May.
Yes I made those two hats yesterday and started another.I'll finish that one today but need to do bills and tax and want to get those done this week for sure.
Have a good day with your dd, Ginny, and I hope that CJ,Phyl, and Sue are also having a good day and that Phyl's back issues are improved

Hello Everyone Ginny - I'm glad that you were able to baste your quilt and it was pretty easy. Hope you can start quilting on it soon. Ruth - Sounds like you have a lot of weather fluctuations there. Hope you can work things out with getting a new sink faucet. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are getting to do some crafting. It's a pretty sunny day here, with temps in the 60s. There are a lot of trees/bushes starting to bloom too. I finished all the organizing of my quilt tops and other quilting things. By the time I was done I was sick of looking at quilts I did find a few small pieces that I had ready to practice some machine quilting on with my smaller machine. I may try to work on some of those over the next few days. I really want to try some free motion quilting and I figure it will be easier on the small items. Take care everyone and have a great day!

CJ- I am excited for you regarding trying FMQ. Find some good videos to watch- I have watched videos from Angela Walters and MSQ and gotten good advice from them. With all the quilts you have made, It makes sense that you might hvae gotten sick of looking at them. Ha ha ha. So much pretty stuff for sure.
Ruth- yes, it will be a big relief for you to get the taxes and bills done. A pain in the neck, yes, but essential,, of course.
Wonderful day with Dd today. Good weather and a good time Super happy to be home though, in my sort of quiet country county.
See ya tomorrow. Ginny

Wow,no one'sbeen here..I pretty much only got a little reading online...my email etc...when dh got up and we had already decided to go do some real shopping in our local Kroger store.Last time we were there ...couple weeks ago at least, maybe three...everyone had a mask. This time there were quite a few without even those there is a very large sign in front of the store saying masks were required. Anyway it was exhausting and I'm glad to be home.

Gosh, I thought I had checked in this am...guess I did and saw no responses to last nights posts.
Ruth, things are loosening up in many areas, and I wonder what the regulations are in your state. I still have to wear masks here- but know, for example, that Georgia has dropped all covid restrictions. Glad you and Dh got to Kroger- yes its exhausting- but sometimes its just best to shop for your own groceries. Hope that holds you for awhile- the supplies you picked up today.
No crafting for me today- but I did view a video or two on quilting. Spent the afternoon getting the baby shower invitations written. Tomorrow I just have to stamp them and send them out.
Have a good night all Ginny

CJ, I'm sure it feels great to have all those quilting items and the quilts themselves organized but I can sure see how you might be tired of even thinking about quilts for awhile after doing all that.
Ginny, when is the baby shower going to be? I don't know why my dgd's was so early because she is not due until the very end of May and possibly even June 1st. Writing invitations to a shower must count as crafting and you did watch those videos. My crafting so far has been only looking at what the people in the craft groups on FB are making. Here in our state all the mask mandates have been lifted except for people that want them in place..obviously like our Kroger store although what can they do if people don't wear one? I did just hear that Justin Trudeau is having people put into "government facilities" to quarantine if they have a positive test.

The baby shower is in a month. Dd and I intentionally chose the date we did because we wanted to avoid Mother’s Day weekend (out of respect for others- some folks have to travel that weekend to visit mothers/ mother in laws etc....) and if we go much later, then Memorial Day becomes a factor and the baby’s mid June due date is too close. I just finished stamping and return addressing all the invitations. Glad that is done. Dd#1’s baby shower was an effort by her friends and me and was a much smaller affair. DSIL #2 comes from a huge family, and that makes the affair twice the size. Dd#2’s friends are all spread out too....so the work of this shower pretty much falls on my shoulders. I am hoping that my Bf can help, and I know Dd#1 will help. Jane will be out of town that weekend- she would help if she were here.
Ruth, good question about the masks. I would suppose that Kroger could mandate masks for everyone, at all times, but then they are taking the risk of alienating some customers who do not want to wear masks. Those customers would probably not shop their ear and take their business somewhere else, which of course, Kroger does not want. So the mask suggestion (no longer a mandate in your state, but still in mine) is just that, a suggestion. But they cannot stop you from wearing one for sure. Here in my state they will probably keep us wearing masks for a long time, but its a good idea as we are all laughing at how ridiculous the NYS governor is with all the legal issues he has now. Unfortunately I did also hear about Justin Trudeau’s new policy.
At some point today I will end up going to BJ;s and target, and then taking the baby crib to DD’s house. Think they are painting the baby’s room this week and its a good time to get the crib there. Not sure that DSIL sees it that way, but as the crib is at my house and the next month will be full of shower preparation, I want to get it to their house now.
The falling charms quilt is all set and I just need to get my courage up to quilt it. Looking at a large quilt like that next to my machine is a bit overwhelming, but I do not want to pay to have this quilt quilted.
CJ- this is a week of weather swings in my area- I wonder if the same applies to you. Do you have any plans to see family this weekend?
I have babbled enough this morning. BBL
Hi to Phyl and Sue. Phyl do you have any plans to attend services this weekend? Ginny

Ginny, for some reason I was thinking that your dd's baby is due also in May. Yes a shower with all those people would be a lot of work. Wish I could help. With what it costs to have quilts quilted I, too, would try to do it myself unless it was a special quilt. From the looks of your quilts that you've shown us I think that you'll do a great job.And as you said, only you will see any mistakes. To others it will look perfect.
Yesterday after we got rested from the shopping trip we got everything put away and I prepared a whole chicken and put it in the slow cooker, some sweet potatoes in the oven and made corn bread and also biscuits. I didn't get any hands on crocheting done at all which is rare for me. Today I have to defrost the mini fridge that's in the "winter quarters". It has a lot of frost buildup so it's going to be a very long procedure. I use a hair dryer but it still takes a long time. I need to start doing it more often.
Before we actually left for the store yesterday we saw that our little wagon that we bought for the grands 28 years ago had blown down to the end of our lot so I went down to get it. It's not that far as it's only an acre lot but on the way back it's up a small hill and by the time I got back to the front deck I had to sit and rest as I was so tired and out of breath. I really need to make myself get out and walk because it's ridiculous how out of shape I've allowed myself to become.I did get a bit of exercise yesterday with that and walking around the store and trips to carry all those groceries in. I need to keep that up.DH thinks that a person could get plenty of exercise with house cleaning and yard work but I really think everyone needs the sustained exercise of a walk even if it's just in a circle inside your home
