Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store , attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity- even visiting us here to join in our posts!! There are plenty of days in which the closest we get to crafting is a visit here, so even if you have no time to craft, we would love to hear from you. We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion! So glad you are here!! Please feel free to stop in and say hello!!

Ruth thanks for the clarification that baby Yoda will be for Dd. Like you, I know what the character Yoda is- and have watched the first Star Wars movie (many years ago) but could never consider myself a Star Wars fan. You do come up with the most incredible ideas for gifts to make. Best of luck to you and Dh with the challenge of getting the rest of the new faucet installed. Hoping that when you check in with us later the job is all done and the faucet and drain are working perfectly.
The last day of spring break for me....I babysit 3 days this week. Dd#2 and DSIL #2 were here for dinner and then we went for a walk around the lake afterwards. As I had already walked the lake after church, well I was a bit tired but it was so nice having their company. Good thing that Dd is also moving a bit more slowly in the last trimester of pregnancy. But it was a good day- glad to see them. Got lots of leftovers from yesterdays dinner, so I do not have to cook today.

Hello Everyone Hope you are all doing well and that you had a nice Easter weekend. The weather here has been very nice - sunny and in the 60s-70s. I spent some time yesterday sorting out my scraps into colors and then into sizes within the colors. Now I just need to trim them into 2.5 inch strips and squares and larger squares. I'll be glad to be done with this since I don't enjoy it and I was almost at a point where I could have just thrown all of them into the trash I did think that a good project for the 2.5 inch strips would be a jelly roll race quilt using different lengths of strips instead of the full WOF length like they sold as in a jelly roll. I'm sure I can probably get at least 2 lap size quilts out of those strips. I also decided not to make another block for the monthly Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I tried the block with the fabrics I have and it didn't look good. I'm sure there will be lots of other projects I'd like to participate in this year, so I'll just keep doing the blocks I'm doing right now. I have another quilt project I'm starting. The pattern is Walkabout. I've been wanting to make one of these for several years, so I think it's a good time to try it. Here are a few links so you can see what the quilt pattern looks like: grizzlygulchgallery.com/shop/walk-about-irresistible-iris/www.quiltinaday.com/shoponline/pattern/Walk-About-Quilt-Pattern-by-Grizzly-Gulch-Gallery/197527www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/23372/grizzly-gulch-gallery/ann-lauer/walk-about-quilt-patternHope you are all getting to do some crafting. Take care

Good to see you CJ! Gee that walk about quilt pattern is adorable, and appears to be limited in the number of different fabrics needed. Do you have any particular large print (which seems to be the heart of the quilt, a large print fabric) in mind?? I keep saying it, I would lobe to see your stash of fabrics....it must be pretty impressive for sure. I totally agree with you on two points- if you have always wanted to make a walk about quilt that you should! And taht if the rainbow scrap challenge quilt is not working out for you, then skip it. You do beautiful work in quilting and you might as well be happy with what you make. Sorting out scraps and pieces of fabric is just no fun at all. I am happy for you that you are done with that task. Have you ever considered making a braided rug from the 2.5 inch strips. Ok its not braided but comes out looking like a traditional braided rug. The directions have you make it with a jelly roll or two. They are so pretty, but I think I would have trouble stepping on such a pretty rug, especially one made with good quilting fabric. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8xblarkuBgWell, I ripped off the bandaid and starting the swirl stitching on the falling charms. I need a ton of practice and learn with every swirl. Glad I watched a bunch of videos as I got a lot of tips from them. It will take me awhile to get this medium sized quilt done, but I actually enjoy free motion work. Its fun because its so different. Ruth, Phyl, and Sue, hope you had a good day. Lovely Monday here, low 60’s and sunny. Ginny

CJ, I can see why you would want to make a walkabout quilt. They are awesome.I especially love the first with the purplely flowers but they all are just absolutely beautiful!! And yes, I know I'd get tired of sorting a bunch of scraps of fabric or anything else. And if that new block you'd planned didn't work out you should definitely just ditch that one.
Ginny, you do seem to be very good with the quilting aspects of quilts. And I know what you mean about making rugs.A lot of the people in the crochet groups talk about rugs but I sure wouldn't want to go to all that work and have someone step on my rug! I always want to say that but I don't
Did you ladies know that top loader washing machines have a filter? The new high efficiency ones supposedly do but I didn't know that top loaders even old ones do too. You would think that in almost 80 years I would have learned that somewhere.
Well we did get the sink finished. It was interesting trying to contort my aged body to fit in among the pipes to put on those clips. Then dh got in and tightened them. He's a lot larger than me so it was even harder for him. But now we have a kitchen sink once more.

Ruth, congrats on the kitchen sink being back in service!!! I remember having to go without my sink for about 3 weeks quite a few years ago, and it was torture. Like you, I cook- which of course makes dirty pots, pans and dishes. Super tough to wash those items without a sink or dishwasher (the 10 fingered kind!). Glad you are back in service...and yes, those tight spaces are sure a pain. Now that is something new- I will have to check my top loader washing machine for a filter. Its about 5 years old but is not one of those super expensive high efficiency machines. And no, you are way optimistic. Ginny is not all that good at free motion quilting, but am trying hard to learn how. Falling charms is an excellent quilt for me to practice on, some of the fabric is from hobby lobby, and the blocks were made before I learned so much about assembly during BOM class. This quilt will never win any awards for sure, but provides a great opportunity for me to practice. I suspect that CJ is very hard on herself, and is probably much more capable than she thinks. I’m just impulsive and have to give this a try. I’ll submit a picture of the quilt to you folks when I’m done but I it’s not perfect, not even close already they are many mistakes.

Ginny, probably you will be the only one who knows where the mistakes are and since you aren't planning on entering it into a quilting contest you will be able to enjoy it without worries. I agree that CJ is undoubtedly too hard on herself. As we have seen in the pictures she posts she does a wonderful and fantastic job.
To get to the filter on the washing machine you have to take the back off so it's not something that you will want to do unless your washing machine starts to drain too slowly. I had my last washing machine for years and that never happened. I just was thinking about filters on them because someone on another board mentioned trying to find theirs.
Yes a few years ago we had a major clog from our sink way down the drainage pipe. We were without a sink for a very long time. I don't know if it was a long a time as your's was out but I ended up trying to wash dishes in a dishpan in the bathtub while also trying to keep any food particles from clogging that drain. It wasn't easy having to bend over the side of the tub like that and also our diverter was broken so the only way to get water was to either let the shower fill it which would have wasted a lot of water or carrying water from the sink to the bathtub. It was a challenge and it sounds like you had a similar challenge yourself.
Today I accomplished a LOT but none of it was crocheting. Tomorrow I think we'll go to Walmart and actually go inside.Maybe after we get home I can sit and crochet but there are still a few things that need to be done such as find a new place to keep all the things that somehow collected under the kitchen sink.

Well you are so right, my falling charms quilt will go nowhere but my family room- and probably make me happy for being the first large sized quilt I made all by myself. I can totally identify with the washing dishes in the bathtub and keeping food particles from clogging the bath tub drain. What a pain in the neck that was. Even with paper plates, its still a hassle. Think I was without my sink for about a month. My experience sounds just like yours, Ruth. Enjoy the trip into walmart. All this online ordering has been great, but sometimes its just nice to go in and really check out the yarn aisle....or whatever else you and Dh might be going into the store to check out. So now, but not today, I will have to look to see how to check my washing machine filter. My washing machine is a challenge to get to the back of- its a tiny room which just accommodates the washer and dryer. So i have to crawl behind the washer, pulled out, to get to the back.
Babysitting this am.....
And I am totally sure that CJ is too hard on herself. I have mentioned that I am using this quilt as a sacrificial lamb- but even with mistakes I am pretty happy with it so far.

I like the walkabout quilts CJ. For some reason, the third one stands out. More of the more neutral similarity in color gives it a more spacious view. Funny, in my yard, I’ve closed in places so there are more spots to stop and look.
We had several inches of very wet snow this morning, and now the sky is a beautiful blue. Tomorrow I have a trip to town planned. Grocery store and two banks. Quick trips when there aren’t many others around. Our governor had his first vaccine a week ago and tested positive for covid yesterday. Strange.
Next week I’m finally getting a real haircut.

Well, I did just check out a few web sites and yes, we are supposed to clean out our washing machine water filters every 3 - 4 months. I never heard of that....and am not sure at this stage of my life that I will start now. It is quite an ordeal getting behind my washer to get to where the hoses enter, and it does sound as though that is where the filter is.
Back from a good babysitting day. Think both little ones were happy to see me and the 3 year old cried when I left to go home. She is a funny little girl and we get along well. My crafting for today might be making that little chick house from graham crackers with DGD. We had a good time putting that together, and while it did not look picture perfect it was a fun project. And she really enjoyed eating it once I took a picture of her with the finished product.

Ginny,it does sounds like you had a good time with your grandchildren especially the 3 year old. I remember back when I left when ds' #3 dd was 3 years old and she also cried when I left to come home. She begged me to stay. I tried hard not to cry too.I do have a hard time with goodbyes. Luckily for your little one you will be back there tomorrow. I sure wish I had been able to live near them and now maybe will but they're all older now and a three of them are actually adults. There still are 4 of them that range from 12 down to 3.

Sent that before I was done. And yes,I bet she was happy when you took her picture with the completed Easter craft. Fun with Grandma.
Well we went to the store and yes I had planned on visiting the yarn aisle for one particular color of RHSS yarn which they didn't have. At first I couldn't even find the yarn aisle because it is such a tiny section now. About all they had was Bernat's blanket yarn, a few colors of RHSS, 4 colors of Mainstay and a bunch of Lions Mandala ombre. I didn't see any that called my name except one gray in Mainstay. There were quite a lot of people shopping in the grocery section. A lot had masks but a few didn't. When we came out of the store it was snowing and still is.Tomorrow will be up to 60 so it will all melt.Thurs they say more snow.

Ruth- it’s such a sad feeling when the little ones do not want you to leave! And your family is large- gee you are onto great grands! Fortunately for you at least DD lives close by- so part of your family is not terribly far.
I think that is what we are going to see from here on- folks who just figure they do not need masks. I go to Bible study with a woman who is at least in her mid 70’s who did not understand why we cancelled a preChristmas gathering (which included food). Her approach to Covid was well if she takes the right vitamins that she would be able to beat it. I’m a firm believer in taking this virus very seriously. I do understand those who are apprehensive about the vaccine, but I think it’s important that we take good precautions if you’re not gonna get the vaccine.
I haven’t shopped for yarn in Walmart in a while. With the pandemic craft supplies like fabric yarn sewing machines etc. we’re selling very well. So I guess it shocks me to think that your Walmart cut back on their yarn.
I spent about an hour working on the following charms quilt and doing some more free motion work. Tomorrow I’ll post a picture of it. It’s far from perfect but I’m finding that you really have to work this and work on a bigger piece to get the experience to figure out how you want to make the free motion look. I was using smaller trial pieces which were fine for a start but using a bigger piece really is an education and self. I stopped working on it when my shoulder started to hurt, Which is a fairly common complaint for free motion work.

Sue, I am sorry I missed your post yesterday....great to hear from you! Happy to hear that you enjoyed a beautiful blue sky. Think its good that you are getting out for some errands, normal is an important thing to do and I do not believe we were meant to be stuck. I too know of someone who recently got the vaccine and then tested positive for covid a few days later. Makes no sense. Wear a mask, be sure to wash your hands when you get home- you will be fine.

Hello all. Sue,sorry, We are glad to see you. We didn't get snow anything like your's. It was snowing and looked like a lot but none stuck. They say snow tomorrow so maybe we'll get yours then but I kind of doubt it will snow at all. Today is nice and warmish and no wind.
Well I didn't get much crocheting done yesterday and today I have a lot I need to do so probably won't get much done today either in the way of crafting.
Be back later.Havea good day everyone.
