I have a four dog lap this morning! Too bad their little feet are wet from walking in the snow! I know spring will get here soon, probably around June 1.
One of the quilters in our group has decided to have the group meet at her house this week, as long as people are two weeks past their second dose of vaccine. I don’t think I’ll be joining them for a while. I still don’t have a caregiver for hb, and I’m not comfortable leaving him alone. I’m still leery about being in a small space with a lot of people.
I have a new project planned! Something I can work on sitting down! It’s an old project, but I never had sweaters that I could shrink. I’m going to have to get my dryer fixed! I’m shrinking cashmere sweaters (not mine) and will be making a crazy quilt vest with pieces. Embroidery where the pieces are joined and other shiny glittery findings. ( think beads, Czech glass buttons, pearls) I’m starting with the lining as the foundation, and I’ll probably use some satin like fabric. It’s an wearable art adaptation of a crazy quilt. The idea is to shrink the sweater fabric so it will be denser and warmer. The sweaters have a variety of stitches. First step is wash, dry and iron. Then deconstruct sweaters and cut shapes. I will have enough sweater fabric to make several vests. Some variations I’m thinking of are color blocks, angular and round (flowers).
My grandchildren are back in school as of last week. My daughter is on the second and third round of job interviews. DGD is feeling better. They opted to go with blood tests and MRIs every six months rather than a colectomy. The doctors were split in their recommendations. I am still very concerned, given the stage and classification of the tumor.
I can see leaf buds on the cotoneasters.

Hello all and happy new week. it will be a cold one here too and it is snowing.. Everything is covered except the roads which are probably too warm. In other parts of the state driving is hazardous and probably parts of !-25 and I-80 are closed yet again. Sue, you're right about spring but I remember two years ago that you had quite a bit of snow in your area on June 3rd. My grandson lives there and sent pictures. Next Sunday will be high 60's here and everyone, yet again, will think spring is here. It never is that early
I'm sorry to hear that your grandaughter's treatment is yet undecided. It would be a huge problem for a person of her ago to have to have a colectomy. On the other hand if it's to the point where that would save her life it would have to happen I guess. You certainly have a lot of issues to worry you and with your grandaughter's situation and your hubby's condition. I'm praying for all of you. The vests you mentioned sound beautiful. Also sounds like a lot of work but it sure will give you something to do while at home
Well yesterday was make a hat day for me but I never did get one completed. I made my dark rye bread. It didn't turn out as good as I had hoped so I have to find out what causes the problem I had which is that some spots were a little gummy. I'm glad I made only one loaf. Dh liked it though and he especially liked the crust and told me I should make rolls with the dough so there is more crust. So when it gets warmer I'll do that. We can't even make a fire today because the wind is too strong. Today I'll try to complete the little blue alien and that hat I started yesterday. I seem to have a lot of hats started.
Well have a great day everyone. I'll bbl

Good morning all-
CJ- good to see you check in last night. Hope that you had a pleasant weekend! Yes its been a bit on the cool side, Its not really hot yet and a good thing as it is not uncomfortable. What time of year do you usually start venturing out to the Amish markets. You are blessed in that they are reasonably close to you and you can visit them. (For me, its a 3-4 hour drive). How large did your walkabout quilt work out to be? Do you have any plans on finishing it?
DD texted me last night and DSIL will be home with the little ones today. DGD#1 has what appears to be a cold- but they are playing it safe and keeping her home today. While I am not happy that she is not feeling well, a day off is welcome to me. I am teaching tomorrow (and Wednesday) and while the material is given to me by the state, it is awkward to figure out how to best present it. They provide some statistics that appear to be poorly organized and make no sense. I have to try to make some sense out of it and make the material meaningful. Right now it seems to be a batch of unconnected facts.
Slept poorly last night. Today should be the final day of the landscapers at my house....where they are correcting a drainage problem.
Have a good day all...hope we can all get some crafting in today! Ginny

Well from looking at the IPad I can see that I wrote the above message but never submitted it..... So it looks like I have been writing all afternoon.
Sue, good to hear from you. Think the important thing to do is to be comfortable with what you are doing, if you leave Dh or stay home. Honestly I think your quilt group has decent plans- you just have to hope that everyone is being honest. You know best about leaving Dh- and its a very challenging decision. Will continue to remember your DGD in prayer and hope that they are making the best decision for her case.
Ruth, wow you have some snowstorm!! Hope that spring comes soon to your area soon and that this is the end of the snow. I am so glad that your Dh is so supportive of all that you do- your crocheting and your cooking. I wonder why the dark rye bread did not turn out as you wanted, but it sounds like Dh was happy with it anyway.
Landscapers are done and gone. It will look really good when the grass grows.....I was busy today getting ready to teach tomorrow, and preparing for study group tonight. Not sure if I will get to my machine later on, but as i slept so poorly last night I will probably just be tired when I get home from study. Phyl- hope you had a good day. Ginny

Good morning all!!!
I also meant to mention that the vests Sue is planning on making sound adorable, so creative and a great way to use what you have in the house. Bet they will be a beautiful artsy and unique garment (s). Sue are you keeping the vests for yourself or giving them to your grandkids?
Busy this am and afternoon...got a lovely spring day on tap here in my neck of the woods. They are actually talking about snow, but several hundred miles north of me.
Have a great day all! Ginny

I'm sitting here waiting for a phone call. I waited yesterday afternoon and the call never came so I called back and left a message this morning and am still waiting. I hate having to wait for things like that.
I saw a sad thing today. One of the young women who has a crochet blog and also a group on fb and a newsletter is a wonderful young (19 years old) Christian woman. One of the children at her church, a 5 year old named Natalie, went for a "routine" cardiac catheterization for ablation of a condition called SVT. Many of these procedures are done every day with no problem at all. In fact when the medical staff explained the risks to the parents they said these things actually never happen. Well something went horribly wrong and her heart was puncture and she sufferened a cardiac arrest. They worked on her for quite some time and finally got her heart beating again but the medical staff says that if she even survives she willl most probably suffer from severe brain damage. Right now she is in a medically induced coma because otherwise she has very frquent episode of dystonia which is a horribly painful thing.Rachel showed pictures of her reading to this little girl before the this all happened and what a cute little girl she is. This is just one example of how we think at times that we're having a hard time. Well there's not much worse than knowing your child may not live at all or will be brain damaged and live in a vegetative state. Please everyone that prays, pray for this child and her family

Ruth, that is indeed a very sad story- and an example of how even the most safe medical procedures can go awry. (I know of a similar story of a young woman, now in her 20’s who went in for a routine procedure and suffered brain damage.) will add that little girl and her family to my prayers. I am sure that Natalie’s church is also praying for her and that she has many asking for a miracle .
DId your phone call ever come in??? And how frustrating that is, waiting for a phone call and it does not come. Hope that the matter can be resolved quickly and that your phone call comes soon.
Busy day today....I taught this morning and afternoon. Teaching again tomorrow am (only). Looking forward to things quieting down a little bit and getting back to quilting. Just checked my calendar, and they should be working on the baby quilt soon.
Gonna go change my machine needle and get ready to quilt a bit. Ginny

Ginny, yes that whole church is praying for Natalie and family. The family has three other children who are 8, 3, and just under a year. They are having a hard time with Natalie gone. They had adorable pictures of Natalie holding the baby on her lap and talking to him. When asked what she wanted to be when grown up she said "a mommy".
No I never did get the callback.I'll have to call again tomorrow.
Yes it does sound as if you had a very busy day. At least you have tomorrow afternoon off. I hope the new needle works ok.
the young woman that posted about Natalie had sent out her newsletter which contained a really great pattern for mug rugs. I started making one with cotton but all my cotton is worsted weight and she made hers with a #3 so mine turned out not looking as good as hers so I have to find some yarn that will work.I also will be making a couple small changes in her pattern because I think my way with make it look more symetrical. Right now I'm working on the shark for dggs that is expected.

Good morning, Ruth, I am glad that you have found another great pattern for mug rugs...I have a feeling that somewhere in your stash of yarn you probably have a yarn that will work perfectly with the new pattern. Are you making the mug rug as a gift, or just because its a lovely pattern? So absolutely frustrating that you have not gotten your callback. It’s annoying for sure, especially when i am sure you spent the entire day making sure you were not on the phone and near the phone in anticipation. Little Natalie sounds like such a sweet young girl.....will continue to join her family and church praying for her.
Well...the needle did not work. I am going to change the foot to a standard foot- revert back to raising the feed dogs and rethread the machine, and see if that works. I will also text the shop owner and see if she has any wisdom on this. The needle broke midway through my free motion work (so no adjustments had been made). I have tried singer needles and inspira needles.. Its getting to be a bit expensive having to change needles like this.(I have plenty of needles) as I have a little more time today I hope to have this issue resolved.
Have a great day! See you later. Ginny

Hello Everyone - Hope you are doing well today Sue - I'm glad to hear your DGD is doing a bit better. Ruth - What a sad situation for that poor little girl and her family. Ginny - Hope you get some quiet time after work today. Phyl - Hope you are getting to do some crafting. The weather here has been nice, but we did have a storm come through today which is bringing cooler weather for a few days. I'm glad for the hot weather to stay away as long as possible. I had pulled out fabrics for backing and batting for 3 quilt tops a few days ago and then just couldn't get back to work on them until this morning. I pressed the three quilt tops and and the backing and sandwiched all 3 of them and have them laying out ready for pinning. I want to get these 3 quilted before the end of the month. I also pulled out some fabrics to work on a quilt pattern that I saw years ago and liked. It looks like a cupboard with plates standing up in it. There are 3 rows of 3 plates across and the pattern shows the plates in oriental fabrics. I have enough oriental fabrics to make this, so I hope to get started on it soon. I'll just have to figure out what fabric to use for the sashing and borders. I'm going to make the plates first and go from there. Take care everyone!

Hello all. I hope you all have a wonderful day
CJ, I'm sure you're busy doing some quilt related activity or at least thinking about quilting.
Ginny, I'm so sorry that your needle keeps breaking. It's very frustrating when you buy what you consider a great machine then the needles keep breaking on it. I hope that if what you are doing doesn't solve the problem that they shop owner will have a solution that works
Well the call never came through. It was a return call to the electric company in Indiana and two people there called me. I tried called the woman that called and had no success so finally this morning I found the gentleman's number and called it. I got a recording that said text him with info so I did and though he would text back. Wellhe called instead and I know I've just stupid when it comes to smart phones so I don't even know how to answer when a call comes in. If finally got him somehow... I don't even know how that happened and he was very kind and understanding about how I messed up that call It was about fiber optic installation there. If I have it put in now even though I'm not going to use it it will be free. If I wait until I'm there and and they're done with this new installation time it will cost me $500 so now all is set on that. When it's time for them to do the inside work later my son can go over and be there for that.
I haven't started any crafting for today yet.

CJ- the same thing happened here, a strong cold front came through bringing rain and much cooler weather. I am happy for you that you are in for cooler temperatures for a few days. I have said it before...but I do love how you set goals for yourself and so that you get your quilting time into get done what you want. The plate quilt with the oriental fabrics will be so pretty- yes, I bet once the body of the quilt is assembled it will be evident to see what would look best for a border.
Ruth, that is just so frustrating that your communication with the electric company was so challenging. What great news that the installation will be free now....much better than having to pay $500 for it!!!
Worked a lot today- and got absolutely nowhere with my machine. I will check it out tomorrow, when I hope that by starting from the beginning rethreading etc....that the problem will be solved. Its a great machine- I just have to figure out this problem.
Have a good night G

It's a stange thing, I fixed my password the other day and was able to get in here without logg ing in and now I had to sign in but they said I'm giving them the wrong user name.
CJ, I must have got interrupted by that phone call when I was reading your post because I didn't see the part about the cold weather or the oriental quilt. I think that once you get those plates done the right sashing and border will come to mind
Ginny, again I'm sorry about the ongoing problem with needles.
The only thing I've crafted so far is yogurt and a pot of chili

Ruth- hope you can resolve the password issue. I know how frustrating it can be!! (Have had similar issues in the past).I know we need these passwords and internet security...one just wishes it did not have to be so hard. Glad to hear that you are still making yogurt, In college (where the food as part of the meal plan was usually pretty horrific) a mainstay of mine was the salad bar and the yogurt bar. I used to love putting granola with a drizzle of honey in yogurt. I am sure you and DH have come up with all kinds of good add ins to your yogurt. And a good pot of chili is a wonderful comfort food. Yum.......
Going in to work for a few hours this am...then will be heading to BJ’s to start to figure out what I am doing for DD’s shower. Oh, I know what I am doing, just want to get the supplies in and order the cake (from BJ’s)
I hope to sit down with my machine this afternoon and get to the bottom of the needle issue.
Guess I did get some crafting in, well sort of. I gave a few packages of sewing machine needles to Dd. My mom left probably 10 packages of new needles in her stuff. I split them among DD#1 and now DD#2. These needles are all the same size, so they might as well enjoy the wealth. Pretty funny to see a package of needles priced at 70 cents.....they are probably 45 years old but unopened.
Take care all Ginny
