Welcome to our 2021 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post

NEW CHALLENGE
CARING April 5 - July 4
âYour body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care" - Buddha
This challenge is about caring about and for yourself. So often we get caught up in taking care of everyone else that we donât give ourselves the care we need. Or we give up caring about ourselves. A variety of reasons and for no reason, it just happens. The hard part is to recognize it and once you do, it is hard to explain because very few want to acknowledge it. You get kudos for taking care of others, not so much for taking of yourself. Not caring about yourself can leave an emptiness that you may try to fill with food and alcohol. The emptiness remains, just stuffed down. We want and need more for ourselves. So letâs begin!
Treat yourself the way youâd treat someone you love.
Love yourself first and the rest will follow.
Focus on health and well being
So how do you begin to care about yourself?
Eating fruits and vegetables sounds like a plan. So does drinking water!!
Walking up a flight of stairs without gasping for breath. Your heart will thank you.
If you donât want to be AF then restrict the amount and limit the days you will allow yourself a drink. But remember if 10 is not enough, one is too many.
Start with baby steps. Making too many changes at once can be discouraging so start small. Have you been slacking on flossing daily? Then start making it a ritual. Do you drink soda for energy? Start cutting back by one.
Treat yourself to something you enjoy. Buying the store brand face cream will sit on the counter. If you have a favorite, budget it in as a necessityâŚ.better than buying alcohol! Maybe getting a manicure or pedicure is important to you yet you deny it for yourself. Ask yourself why.
Make a list of indulgences that arenât food or alcohol and start sprinkling them into your life.
Ask for what you need. Too many times we get into a funk and we donât ask for help. You are loved and we want to help each other.
Curb all the justification. Sometimes you just have to do something because you want to do it. You donât have to explain yourself!
Think of your successesâŚ.add three things that went well today to your daily journal. What?? you arenât journaling? Journaling is caring!
LET THE CARING BEGIN!!

The weather was so nice yesterday! DH & I headed out to our community garage sales around 10am in the golf cart. We kept having to come back home to unload our booty. The second time out, we were near the nature trail, so we walked that, then came home for lunch. We didn't find much after lunch, by this time we had switched to the car, and went on to Publix for dinner supplies. When we got home, I gathered up what I'm putting in my sale today, mostly craft items. I also have a big tote full of supplies DD bought for her short-lived beauty school stint. Yes, she's a beauty school drop out!
Today is starting out sunny and chilly, should be another nice day for the garage sales.
Jan- Sorry about your off the rails day. I have a lot of picture duplicates too.
Murphy- Enjoy those chicken wings!
Carole- Yay for your haircut.
GG- Yay for new puzzles for Rylee, your pretty blue bra, and your pink toes! The boat is sitting on a trailer, ready to go.
Liz- Hope you had fun with DD & DGD.
Cindy- We could use some of your rain, it's supposed to rain for the first few days of next week.
Cathy- WTG tracking, positive attitude, increased activity.

Good morning all!!! I have been trying diligently since January to reset my body/sleep cycle to stay up later and sleep in later but all that has done is make me sleep poorly! So I'm going back to my routine of getting in bed and reading for an hour and not stressing if I want to be asleep by 9:00! I can and will stay up later if needed but I really do like getting up early and having that quiet time before starting to work! I've already been cleaning in a bathroom closet this morning. I truly am the queen of throwing stuff in a closet/drawer/under the bed and as long as I don't have to look too closely then I can pretend it's all organized and I know what is there! Going to do better! I will finish cleaning the closet and since it's supposed to be sunny this afternoon, I think it's time to tackle the patio furniture. At least I'll get started on it. Hopefully Judy will feel like getting the bag of potting soil and the pots out of my garage and that will free up a bit more space. I'll be back later. Hope everyone has a great start to your morning! Thanks Amy for getting us started!! Murphy

May2: 193.6 May 9: May 16: May 23: May 31: June 6: June 13: June 20: June 27 July 4: Good morning all. Happy to see the scale went down even with my detour, now to not do that again. I looked over my week on MFP, most days right around the 1500 cal mark, one day was 1250ish and then 1850ish for my drinking day, so average @1500 a day and can still lose. Want to get closer to 1400 this week, not eating all my exercise cals and see what happens. May not be enough? I wrote all my why's and reasons for my AE journal yesterday, will work on the next chapter this morning while it's quiet. Got some plants in the ground yesterday, bought more compost to dig into the front and we will put grass seed on part of the yard we still want to be lawn. Supposed to get to the high 70's today but not that sunny right now. Talked to DS last night, guess they're bringing a friend from down there that GF works with and the dog. Then the 2 friends will fly in from California, long time soccer/childhood friends and maybe someone from nursing school. If it turns into a Youngster party, we old folks may camp a few nights and then get a real bed somewhere Now to get a car before then!! Maybe a new shipment arriving this week and my guy said there will be a blue one reserved for me as soon as something shows up. Not sure what the plans are for today except some more work outside, moving some plants around and I also bought some sugar snap peas to plant in the back. Hope you all have a great weekend!! Can't believe we're in a new month already, Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit. Jan Amy Sounds like you found some fun things at the garage sales. Good luck selling some of your things today and getting some $$$ back! I need to do that but then can't face the getting it all together and priced. I am taking some of my older cameras in to a shop on Monday as they're having a trade in/swap next week. See if they're worth anything, or at least get some stuff out of the house. turtle pie sounds divine!! Murphy I agree, don't fight your body clock, it will adjust if it needs too. I'm often in bed by 9 or before if I want to read longer. I am up early and love my morning time before DH gets up!! As I'm sure he enjoys his evening time after I go to bed!! Sorry I missed the Wings dinner!! I don't think we'll be in Tennessee still by Wednesday, Saturday-Tuesday is the plan but we could still visit Cades Cove. GL cleaning today. GG Yay for some good finds at the garage sales! How is your resolve holding up? I just need to stay firm and know what I need to do for me. Enjoy your free Showtime!! Carole Glad you still have a dog "friend" for now, hope the rest of your long shift went quickly. Are you getting the warm weather down there too? Can't wait to see DS. They guys that are coming out are long time friends, will be good to see them. Did you go get your hair done shorter after work? Cathy Looks like the scale is moving again, enjoy your day. Liz How was the day with DD and GD? Fabulous I'm sure. Are all your yard projects done now? Is your Dogwood starting to bloom yet? We have 2 small ones we planted here and neither one has done anything yet. Cindy Did the rain finally stop or are you now working on an ark? We are trying to dig in a lot of compost into the front yard they have all dug up to help with the clay here too. But it's not as bad as the soil we used to have in California. Thought of you yesterday when I saw a whole lot of lilies on the distressed rack at Lowes. time to get in my 7 o'clock steps. Have a good Saturday all.

Well the closet is cleaned out and stuff thrown away and some to the donate pile. Whenever I have makeup (mostly eyeshadows) that I'm not using, I pass it on to my great niece. She is 17 and loves makeup! I have always loved playing with makeup but honestly now that I'm not going to work every day, I keep it pretty simple! So there's just no reason to keep it and some of the eye shadow palettes are kind of high end. I'm also always searching for the "perfect" organizer and had several in that closet that I bought and haven't worked out. So I'll pass those on too.
My eating has been rubbish this week! I have decided to give myself grace for a couple of weeks with my eating though. My focus has to be staying AF. While I don't plan to completely lose control I am just not going to worry. Maybe that's not the best approach but that's what I'm thinking for today anyway! Right now, I'm just sitting here on the couch with Callie snuggled against me. She peed in the floor this morning and I "shamed" her. Just verbally saying bad girl and she has been slinking around ever since! She knows perfectly well when she is making me unhappy! She is 15 so I try to make allowances.
Amy - hope your yard sale goes well today! I didn't know that DD had been to beauty school!
Jan - WTG on doing your journaling on the AE! I probably need to find a copy of that as well because I'm just not doing well with watching the videos! But I do read all the FB posts and they are so inspiring!
Better get moving again! BBL Murphy

Patio furniture is cleaned off! It's much better but the blue Adirondack plastic chairs are several years old and even though they are cleaner, they are still faded. I might get some spray paint for plastic and freshen them up. When I got done washing their chairs off, I pulled out some other spray paint for a couple little projects. I forgot how much fun that is! I bought a couple of metal curtain tie backs but I wanted them to be darker so I painted them! I'll hang them in a day or two when they have cured a bit. After church tomorrow, Judy and I are going to go out for lunch and then we'll move the bag of dirt and pots from my garage to hers. I also have plans to rearrange the office space in my bedroom and move the HOA stuff to a corner of the kitchen table. It's not like I use it for eating! LOL. Thanks for letting me blather on about nothing today! Murphy

Murphy We enjoy hearing your rambling on Sounds like you were have a productive, good day. I wish I had 1/2 the motivation to you do to clean/ purge and organize!! I at least got some yard work done, used up some left overs in the fridge for a turkey, asparagus, mushroom alfredo kind of dish. I did my Walmart run and feel we have meals for the week. Yay for spray painting and sprucing up some of your projects. Yep, focus on the AF, one thing at a time I'm learning. Drinking some water with lemon in for right now, then going to make a cup of tea and maybe have a piece of dark chocolate. Feels like a good day in the books. Have a good evening. GG Really liked your sports grandma sweatshirt on FB, what a great idea!! Hi to all.

Hi All!
Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit and Happy May Day!
Another rainy day...has stopped for now but suppose to start up again in an hour or so. Totally saps my motivation to do much except lose myself in a book. Trying to get in my steps but not going to happen today.
Amy, sounds like a wonderful yard sale to get so much stuff. Did you have any luck selling stuff today? I had no idea that DD was a beauty school dropout....I like the way you expressed that. I wish the rain would go your way!
Murphy, unless you have something planned I would go to bed when tired and wake up when you do. Eventually your sleep cycle will reset. I wish I had your determination to purge. I start, stop, restart, wait a few days/weeks, start again. I walk in my office and get overwhelmed with all that I need to do in there. But I know I just need to start with one pile of paperwork. Glad that you were able to get your patio furniture cleaned up. Glad Judy will take the pots and soil after church. Does she have more shade on her patio? Concentrate on being AF, the eating will work itself out. I enjoy reading your rambles. Keep on keeping on!
Jan, fingers crossed for a new shipment of cars! Sounds like you had a busy day! No one seems to have any distressed plants. DS brought home a potted bamboo and begonia plant that a co-worker was going to throw away and a customer brought him a dahlia plant...who knows why. Yay for getting yard work done and using up food from the fridge. DS brought home bagels with three kinds of cream cheese and Hawaiian pizza. It was raining so hard on Friday that they ordered food in. One woman made a big deal about getting the Hawaiian pizza and then ate the meat lovers.
Liz, I am sure you had a great time with DD and DGD! Is DS happy with his grilling patio?
Carole, how are you enjoying your new 'do?
GG, how was your Mother's Day celebration? It looked like fun from the FB photos.
Cathy, sounds like the scale is cooperating again! Enjoy talking with family!
Going back to reading. It is a series of easy going murder mysteries.
Hugs to all, Cindy
