Welcome to our 2021 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post

NEW CHALLENGE
CARING April 5 - July 4
“Your body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care" - Buddha
This challenge is about caring about and for yourself. So often we get caught up in taking care of everyone else that we don’t give ourselves the care we need. Or we give up caring about ourselves. A variety of reasons and for no reason, it just happens. The hard part is to recognize it and once you do, it is hard to explain because very few want to acknowledge it. You get kudos for taking care of others, not so much for taking of yourself. Not caring about yourself can leave an emptiness that you may try to fill with food and alcohol. The emptiness remains, just stuffed down. We want and need more for ourselves. So let’s begin!
Treat yourself the way you’d treat someone you love.
Love yourself first and the rest will follow.
Focus on health and well being
So how do you begin to care about yourself?
Eating fruits and vegetables sounds like a plan. So does drinking water!!
Walking up a flight of stairs without gasping for breath. Your heart will thank you.
If you don’t want to be AF then restrict the amount and limit the days you will allow yourself a drink. But remember if 10 is not enough, one is too many.
Start with baby steps. Making too many changes at once can be discouraging so start small. Have you been slacking on flossing daily? Then start making it a ritual. Do you drink soda for energy? Start cutting back by one.
Treat yourself to something you enjoy. Buying the store brand face cream will sit on the counter. If you have a favorite, budget it in as a necessity….better than buying alcohol! Maybe getting a manicure or pedicure is important to you yet you deny it for yourself. Ask yourself why.
Make a list of indulgences that aren’t food or alcohol and start sprinkling them into your life.
Ask for what you need. Too many times we get into a funk and we don’t ask for help. You are loved and we want to help each other.
Curb all the justification. Sometimes you just have to do something because you want to do it. You don’t have to explain yourself!
Think of your successes….add three things that went well today to your daily journal. What?? you aren’t journaling? Journaling is caring!
LET THE CARING BEGIN!!

Good morning all. Woke up to a message on the machine that someone "rescued" Finn last night when he got out so he's at a sleepover somewhere. I tried to call, too early I'm sure, sent a text if they're nearby our address to let him out and he'll come home. Too many "helpers", I'm glad people worry, but he's too friendly and then he gets himself in trouble. We've tried to keep him in again, no way, he just scratches at doors, meows, maybe when we take our trip the girl watching them can keep them in if she only comes twice a day and they'll get used to it again. Not counting on it. Yesterday turned out nice, although quite windy in the morning. We did a little yard work, I got groceries, knit, read and we even had dinner outside on the patio. Looks like more of the same today. Looks like Subaru extended some of the financing deals so hoping one will work for us when they find a car. Fingers crossed in the next week before our road trip. Hope you all have a great day. Time to dance around with the Swiffer a bit while DH is still in bed. Jan
Cindy Hope you can get back to sleep and feel caught up later. Sounds like you're set for food and plants again for awhile. Rain, Rain go away, Cindy wants to go our and play!!
Liz Have fun at the party. It's a celebration and that's when you celebrate!! Tomorrow is a new day to be OP. Enjoy your time with family.
Hi to all, I'll check in later to see what's up.

What will you be accountable for today?
Move More Accountability: 3, no walk, laps in the basement, lots of trips in and out of the house for the yard sale, 250 steps 8/8 hours, 6,000+ steps, 5 FP, pushups & wall stretches Sleep Accountability: 3, slept Nutrition Accountability: 2, 39/28, turtle pie is gone Journal Accountability: 4, continuing online journal Happiness Accountability: 4, enjoyed the day, watched 50 Years of Sesame Street, read before bed Habit Accountability: 5, drinking more water than Diet Coke Check in Daily Accountability: 5, I'm here! Time Management Accountability: 3, not much to show for the day, most of garage sale stuff is either back in the craft room or basement Number Of Days AF (mostly alcohol free since August 16, 2006): 5367; ANIM: 1 (021221)
Labor of Loving yourself first! April 5 - July 4
April 5 start weight: 176.9 April 12: 177.5 April 19: 177 April 26: 177.2 May2: 177.5 May 9: May 16: May 23: May 31: June 6: June 13: June 20: June 27 July 4:
The yard sale was mostly a bust, did sell a bike, the beauty school supplies, a few craft items. Definitely not worth the effort involved, but now I know. For all that I mostly sat and enjoyed the weather and people watching, I was really tired and did not feel like going for a walk. We watched the Derby, I was rooting for Soup & Sandwich, because of the name. I'm pretty achy this morning, so it may be a couch day, other than going for a walk and putting a few things away. I'm fairly consistent in my sleep cycle. I try to be in bed before midnight, even though it usually takes an hour or more to fall asleep, then most days I'm in bed until 8am.
Murphy- I agree with the others, no reason to change your sleep cycle if it works for you. You certainly get busy early. WTG focusing on staying AF. Glad you had fun with the spray paint. WTG purging and organizing.
Jan- WTG AF100!, blue dot, steps, scale down, doing the AE work, yard work. Hope you are able to get your Subaru while the financing deals are still in effect.
Cindy- Sorry about the rain. Hopefully the rain we are supposed to get tomorrow is coming from TX.
Cathy- WTG tracking, staying positive, increasing activity
Liz- Enjoy your time with family.

Happy Sunday all! Went out to lunch after church with Judy and 3 other friends. We went to Panera and I had a yummy bowl of corn chowder. It came with half a sandwich and that came home with me to eat for supper!
Amy - sorry the yard sale wasn't more successful for you! We had one here at the complex but it was the weekend when I had the two showers and I couldn't participate. I'm hoping that I can get the board to sponsor another one the end of summer. If not, I'll try to participate next year and hope that I can get rid of a bunch of stuff then. Hope your aches go away today!
Jan - Finn is quite the adventurer! He is a little stinker for sure! I've never had an animal who had the freedom to come and go and I know I would not do well with it. I would worry too much! Hope your perfect car comes in this week!
I have a little craft project to work on this afternoon and I'm going to drag the sewing machine out and repair a pair of jeans. Just a nice relaxing afternoon! Hi and hugs to everyone! Murphy

Hi Murphy Just to let everyone know, Finn got Chauffeured home this morning by a nice girl. I had kept trying to call the # she left and it said disconnected, she had a number off! The problem is he knows his territory and comes home, I asked where she found him, across the street from our house. It's the driving him to her house which is Way downtown that bugs me. If he had gotten away from her there he couldn't have found his way home. His address is on his tag, why take him home instead of across the street to the house? Now he's mad because I'm keeping him in for now. I know people feel both ways about not letting cats out and keeping them in for safety etc, guess it's just we've never had this happen before because our neighbors weren't so close, but they're not the ones always rescuing him, they know his habits, looking for a free hand out Come on people, everyone here wants to "rescue" a cat but refused to wear a mask all last year because it's against their rights!! Ha ha, what about cat rights to be outside!! I'm going to change our home phone message to "If you're calling about Finn, just leave him outside. Rant over. Better get out to help DH in the yard.

Hi girls. It’s a beautiful day in Pennsylvania! Home from church and relaxing a bit before Rylee comes. That little stinker totally ignored us yesterday! She was more interested in Jack and Addi!! Lol We had a wonderful celebration yesterday. It’s always fun when we all get together. And now that Rylee is getting older, the adults can sit and talk while the kids play. And yes, I was OP even with the chocolate chip cookie cake with frosting. I counted 15 points for it and still ended up with a blue dot! DS picked good 0 point foods for lunch! Chicken, green beans, salad, and fruit! DH wanted to get pizza for dinner, but they were too busy, so we came home and had leftovers. That helped too! Today I had our pianist playing with me again. First time in 13 months! He is a former piano student of mine, but plays so much better than me!! Together we sound awesome!!
Amy: Hope your soreness goes away. I sang beauty school dropout in my head when I read your post!
Cindy: I hope the rain has stopped for now. Like you, I have to just start on 1 pile or I never get started.
Jan: I don’t understand why they don’t just leave Finn alone! It sounds like changing your phone message might be a good idea! Maybe making another tag for his collar would help too. Leave me alone and I’ll go home! Yay for 100 AF days!!
Liz: I have to really watch for 2 pages on our posts. I missed yours until someone else mentioned it. Enjoy today. When you are at a social event do you feel in control?
Murphy: Yay for eating out with friends after church! I learned how to sew as a kid for 4-H, but can’t use my machine. At least I can sew a button and hem things! Enjoy your quiet afternoon!
Carole: Wow, it’s May already! When is Ty done with school?

Jan I sure didn't mean to come across like I was criticizing or saying you were wrong in letting Finn outside! He obviously loves it! I never had pets when I was living at home as a child and we lived out in the country. I have only had pets when I lived in very close proximity to neighbors and on busy streets. That's the only reason I would be to neurotic about pets outside! I agree that it's a little odd that the girl didn't just bring him home from across the street but I'm sure glad he made it home safe and sound! That's all that matters! And I love the idea of a new message or tag that says "just leave me alone!" LOL
GG - have a fun visit with Rylee! I'm sure without the distraction of her older cousins, she will be all over you for attention!
Drug my sewing machine out and fixed my jeans. Getting it out of the closet and setting it up took longer than the actual repair! It's a good machine that my ex-husband bought for me for Christmas but the darned thing is SO heavy! It would be nice to have a place that I could leave it sitting out but then of course I would have to dust it! LOL. Got my office spaces switched. Moved the HOA stuff to the end of the kitchen table. I'm going to do better about sending out birthday cards this year and wanted to have a place at my desk to keep up with those. Tomorrow I get my nails done! Everyone have a good rest of your Sunday! Murphy

Murphy I didn't feel that way at all from you. No worries. I'm seriously thinking of getting him a new tag!!!
GG Glad you got to enjoy the party and still make good choices. Have fun with Rylee!!

Hi All!
Another bird got onto the screened in porch and it took me awhile to coax it outside. It was definitely frightened but eventually I was able to guide it to the door and it flew up as high as I could see. I can't figure out how they get on unless they push through the narrow openings that are for water to drain off the porch since the porch is at a slant. I use to have "cut to size" pool noodles blocking the openings so did that today...plus they keep snakes off the porch. Before I did that I got out my leaf blower and blew as much stuff as I could out the door and then just a bit of sweeping. In the future I will use the vacuum aspect of the blower so I don't have to try to control the blowing of leaves. It certainly made for achy shoulders but the porch looks inviting, other than I left stuff on the porch that would normally be put out in the gardens. Fingers crossed that the roof gets done this week. After reading that some of you are having dinner or coffee on the porch, I got a bit motivated.
The Auger arrived today but it was beyond me to figure out how to get it attached to the drill DS owns. Not even sure if it is the right drill. I know there is another one DH had and that is probably the one I need. There is so much water on the yard surface that with a few days of sun, I hope most of it sinks, then I can sink holes.
Jan, does your town have an ordinance about cats being off premises? It does seem odd that so many are so concern. My ex SIL was from Wisconsin and wherever her parents lived, they had to keep their cat and dog on their premises unless on a leash. Oh, I could just imagine Ainsley agreeing to a leash! Not! Not sure if you said, but could you/did you lock in a rate for when you get your new car? Not sure if that is worth it or not. Been a long time since I bought a car (that runs!)
Amy, glad you were able to get a few things sold, but I am with you....I find the effort isn't worth it. I hope you were able to rest and aren't as achy this evening.
Murphy, glad you had a nice luncheon with friends and that more stuff has left your garage and ended up at Judy's. My sewing machine keeps sitting on the dining room table though I have a perfectly good sewing table upstairs. Of course if I go upstairs there are so many things to do and then I don't know what to do with that stuff and get hooked into looking at books.
GG, the FB photos were so nice and it is wonderful that your grandkids get along so well! What fun to have a former student play piano with you!
Liz, love the FB photos! Should I offer a new challenge for tomorrow? We can stay on track! Hugs!
Carole, hope you get a chance to check in! Always love hearing what is going on!
Cathy, hope you were able to talk with family this evening! Hope the scale keeps cooperating!
It was so nice to have sunshine this morning...then the rain came but this evening the sun is back. My BIL has a friend who might be interested in the Edsels. BIL asked if it was okay to give him my number, said sure, then got back to me and said his friend was hesitant to call me. So I asked about contacting DS. So BIL gave me his friend's number so that DS can send photos, etc. The other guy has given me money but doesn't move forward...so I don't feel I can spend the money though I feel I should charge the guy storage fees. I hope against hope that BIL's friend decides to go for it but not getting my hopes up. I do remember saying to BIL five years ago that I would give him a 10% finders' fee if he found someone....hmmmm....
Going to take some OTC pills for shoulders and hope they work.
Hope everyone has a wonderful week coming up!
hugs, Cindy
