Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - Those buttons sound so cute, that sweater is going to be darling. Ginny - Have you been able to get any more machine quilting done on your quilt? Phyl and Sue - Hope you are getting some crafting done. I finished the alternating blocks for the Irish Chain quilt yesterday but haven't been able to get back to them but hopefully I'll get the rows pieced and the top put together in a few days. I would like to start working on my hand quilting piece that I have ready to stitch, but I haven't been motivated to pick it up. I do have 4 needles threaded so hopefully I'll feel like it soon. I'm hoping I've found a lawn care company that will take on my yard for the season. I'm waiting to hear back from them. I'll feel bad cancelling on the guy that cut it for me this past weekend, but I can't spend the summer worrying about whether his health will let him do all that work by himself. I was checking something in my basement the other day and found that where the furnace service replaced the oil filter (last Wednesday) that it was leaking oil. So I put a container under it to catch the oil and called for service and they came today and hopefully fixed it. I'll check it later for any drips. I had to empty the container once since it had filled up with oil. And I called the fence company that put in my lovely new wood split rail fence in 2019 to come for an estimate to fix the part of it that was hit by a car (again!) and broken. I don't remember if I told you all about that or not but it happened on Easter morning. I can't believe how bad people drive that they end up coming off the road, up through my driveway, up into the grass and then to hit the fence. It's like my yard is a magnet for accidents I'm feeling better after taking care of these things, I was really feeling stressed about all of it. Take care everyone!

Good afternoon everyone.Well our weather is still like a roller coaster. After those few really nice days it was cold again yesterday and today. ON the positive side, 40's are much better than teens or 20's or even below zero. Next Thurs they call for snow showers Also later this week are a couple high 70's days.
I got one of my needed chores done today...paying bills. Now have several others I need to do
Yesterday when I said I'd have the sweater done I forgot it was hat to donate day so I started a hat. Dh saw me making it and starting talking about hats for him. He didn't quite care for the one I was working on. He usually prefers knitted but also said he likes how variegated yarn such as a camo work up in crochet. Anyway I made a couple swatches to show him the difference between thickness of knit vs crochet and again he preferred knit. I haven't knitted a hat on circular needles since 2007 so started one and after a few glitches were ironed out I finally got one going but my knitting is slow so this will take awhile. I'll work on other things during the day such as the rest of the baby items and things for the grands but will work on the knitted hat in the evenings when we watch tv. It's really unbelieveable how many knitting needles I have esp considering the fact that I very rarely knit.I have all the styles of needles that are available and I think in every length and every size...from circulars to straight to double point (which I could never get to work for me really) and I also have some of the ones they used to call crochetenknit which I've never used but those I got from ddil when her mom died.I even have a set of circulars with changeable needle parts that one of the Caps for kids leaders gave me. Never used those either.
Ok back to chores

Ok, couldn't do the kitchen because nightowl dh is sleeping right under it (that's where the master bedroom is) so I finished the sweater except for sewing on the buttons and weaving in ends so I'll probably do that now and then try to make a little pair of booties which is another thing that, despite all the women including even the young ones, make all the time and I want to also make at least one pair of scratch mitts..Newborns need those. Those little nails are like puppy teeth...feel like razors.
The sun finally came out so it's a little more cheerful looking outdoors

Ruth, well I have some knitting needles that were my mom’s - and I have no intent to use them. My sister knits, I have not attempted to seriously teach myself to knit. So our unused knitting needles can keep each other company. Love that your Dh actively epxressed an interest in hats....and I have made a child’s hat from the super saver camo yarn, it works up very nicely. I am glad you are wiling to work on making a knitted hat, and hope that it comes back to you quickly.
CJ- congrats on finding ( we hope!) a new contractor to mow your lawn. Fortunately I am sure that they have plenty of equipment, so if their mower broke you would still have your grass cut (as they would have other equipment). I hope that the new contractor works out well for you!!! Have you found any additional leaks now after the second visit to your house? Don’t you hate that- you asked to have your furnace serviced and another problem cropped up. The irish chain quilt will wait for you....you put those blocks together very quickly. Sometimes having needles threaded and ready to go is the incentive to get a project started. (I did that about a week ago when I filled 5 bobbins to start quilting a day or so later.). Hand quilting sounds good for the warmer weather to come. I know it will look beautiful.
Nope- have not had time to quilt. Perhaps later this evening. Babysat today, and the kids were pretty good. This is an easier week, but I do have some appointments toward the end of the week. At least I do not have to plan or orchestrate a baby shower. Ds went to water the lawn the other day and the spigot fell off the pipe from the house. The plumber will be here Wednesday to repair it. So I do understand what you are going through CJ.
Phyl- hope you are ok....have not heard from you much recently and we do miss you. Sue, hope you are doing ok and getting some crafting in. Ginny

CJ, I guess I'm too self absorbed because I didn't mention the lawn people. I think it's a great idea to have a company do it for many reasons. Not only the insurance thing I mentioned yesterday but also, if one person is sick they have others, plus, as Ginny said, if equipment failed they would have more too.
Ginny, it doesn't sound as though your week will be any less busy. Maybe in some ways but then the appointments are there for you to fill that time.
Phyl, good to see you. I hope you're feeling better.
Sue how's everything up in Big Sky country?
I did start on the scratch mitts but then dh got up so I was able to work in the kitchen. Now I'm going downstairs and will do some knitting

Phyl- good to see you here. Thought of you the other day when I saw the daily special at Missouri was patriotic fabric- and you like to decorate for holidays around the year.
Ruth, how far did you get on the hat last night?
Will have 2 weeks in a row where there will be only 2 babysitting days. A nice treat. This week finishes with some appointments but nothing time consuming. Got one more bobbin sewn last night on the quilt. Ginny

Yesterday some of my early daffodils were ready to pick. I really enjoy the first bouquet!
There is a new nighttime visitor. A very large raccoon has decided the bird feeder on the deck railing is easier than finding its own food source. The first time it scared me because there were bright eyes at people height. I need to bring in the feeder at night I guess.
The Super Moon was wonderful a few nights ago. The Sandhills cranes are back again this year. There is a creek about /4 mile to the west.
My lawn got its first mowing yesterday. Take time to get the tree guy here to take down several trees.

Hello Everyone Ruth - Those scratch mitts are a good idea. Good luck with the knitting. I'm always impressed with variegated thread and how it makes such a pretty design when it's knitted or crocheted. Ginny - I'm glad you're getting a bit of a break from babysitting. I meant to tell you I was happy the baby shower went well. And I'm glad you were able to get some free motion quilting done. Phyl - Glad to see you check in. Sue - I'm happy to hear your weather is getting better. I'm sure that bouquet is beautiful! Those of you who have written about problems at your homes/yards are right, we all have to deal with them. Doesn't mean I like it I received a quote from the lawn company and I'm really happy with it and ready to sign up. I tried to print off the contract on my printer this morning and the printer is not working correctly. I've had this problem before where the black ink cartridge doesn't work. I've tried to work on it all day, but no luck. Of course I have this problem when I really need to print something! So I'll be headed out to buy a new printer tomorrow because I want to get signed up for the lawn service now. I checked the oil filter later yesterday and there weren't any drips, I need to check it again today. I finished piecing the Irish Chain quilt top today and it ended up 40x50, not very large. I could probably add a border but I just want to be finished with that top. The quilt just looks bland to me, I think because all the fabrics are the same and there isn't a good mix of lights, mediums and darks. I had quite a few 2.5 inch strips of fabric left after doing this quilt and I cut some more strips from other Little House on the Prairie fabrics, so I'm going to make a top with all these strips. And I pressed 3 yards of fabric for another 3 yard quilt I'd like to make. I want to sit and read through the pattern a few times before I cut the fabric, I've found that helps with those patterns. Hope you all get to do some crafting. Take care!

Sue and Phyl, it's so good to see both of you.
Ginny, well sounds like you'll have a few days to do the things you would like to do. I'm sure the little ones are wonderful but some days off of babysitting is great too
CJ, I hope you can get everything settled in your yard and house. That will be a huge relief to you I'm sure.
Well I did a ton of cooking today...worked my fingers to the bone. I remember when my dh's stepmother used to have us come over every Saturday and she would always say she worked her fingers to the bone. She said it kiddingly but she really did make nice meals then she would give me some leftovers to take to work that night. Whoever worked with me was happy too.

I had set aside my laptop and went to wash all those dishes so when I came back I didn't see your post, CJ. I'm glad you found a company that will do your yard and you won't have to worry about it getting done. Sorry about the printer though. I don't have a printer anymore.Six years ago mine bit the dust but iwas on my old desktop which also bit th4e dust and I've always wanted dh to try it on his newer desktop (of course it's six years old now) He never did and I'm not pressing him to do it because we really don't need a printer and also when he works on that kind of thing it makes him very nervous.Sounds like you're getting in a lot of quality quilting time.

Ruth, yes working fingers to the bone is an old saying for sure...I hope that you will not have to cook as much as you did today. And the cleanup after a heavy day of cooking can be substantial. Enough to work fingers to the bone for sure. And printers? What a pain in the neck! Mine works ok most of the time but seems to need more cartridges frequently and they are not cheap.
CJ- glad to hear that the contract for the lawn company sounds promising, but what a pain in the neck about the printer! Like you, I opt to keep one in the house, despite what a pain in the neck they are. Just sometimes you need one...Hope you are able to find a printer without too much difficulty. Congrats on finishing the irish chain! So sorry that you are not super happy with the results- perhaps you could add some corner stones to a border and get some additional color in that way- but it sounds like you are going to move on to another project. Which 3 yard quilt are you working on or planning to work on?
Sue, enjoy those daffodils. don’t you wish they bloomed longer?
Got my one bobbin of stitching done this evening.
Have a good night all Ginny

Todays crafting was to make a little pressed flower arrangement with DGD for Dd for Mother’s Day. I love these cause they are so easy to do and look so cute.
