Just got a text informing me of my husband’s sister‘s memorial service in July. They did have a small funeral for her in July last year, but we were restricted with the numbers in attendance because of Covid. I was in attendance at that small funeral. Just don’t feel like going to this memorial service, I will go because I have to and out of respect for my husband. And because my niece, her daughter was at the baby shower last weekend. But this just seems too much.

I thought I remembered that they had a funeral service for your sister in law. Seems a bit much to have a memorial service almost a year afterward but I guess different people have different wishes. And yes, since she was your dh's sister I guess you must go. Ginny, that craft you did with dgd is so cute. Your dd will love it. I'm sure you've kept all those keepsakes from your kids as did it. My son will show them to his children after I'm gone then will probably dispose of them. My dd will probably just toss all those things away without even looking. We were thinking of grocery shopping today but there isn't much on sale and there's nothing we really need so we decided against it. Instead I made an apple pie. I have apples that needed something done with them Last night I worked some more on the knitted hat and also made another scratch mitt to go with one that didn't have a partner, started some baby socks but didn't like the pattern and then started a "pot pincher'...a potholder for fingers. Then I saw a pattern for a nice therma. l stitch potholder that also has pockets for your finger so I want to make some of those today. They're almost like the pinchers but larger.
Computer is acting weird so will bbl

All that craft is is flowers (dehydrated slightly in the microwave) pressed between 2 pieces of clear contact paper.. I have made that craft for 20 years, and it always comes out looking really good. Of course the tongue depressors are glued on as a frame...DGD loved it, and it was something her young hands could make easily.
Ruth, pot pinchers are wonderful, I have seen them in Christmas tree shops and they are really cute- also so much easier to use if all you want is finger coverage, Of course there are times that a nice pot holder or trivet is what is needed. Are you making the knitted hat for Dh?? Like you, I could have gone to the store today, but did not have enough on my list to make it worth the trip. Will go tomorrow.
Yes, there was a funeral for my husbands sister last July. I told my Ds about the text- and said I would forward it to him. His words were, that the memorial service was for the people who could not attend the funeral due to covid closures and not to forward the text to him. So in other words, I am stuck attending this service, not because I want to but because its the right thing to do. I hope that they put a limit on the length of the service and do not ask for testimony about her from those in attendance. I was in a memorial service years ago that had at least 150 people and went 3 hours with all the comments from the public. My DSIL in Florida reminded me that we already sent flowers for the funeral, so I will not send flowers for the memorial.
My house finches had babies....and mom is feeding the little ones on my window bird feeder. So cute to watch.

I wouldn't send more flowers either since they already got some. If they are offended by that, so be it, you will have done your part just by being there. If I thought I'd have to sit through 150 people talking about the deceased I'm afraid I'd leave right after about the 4th one...unless it was someone I really, really loved. And I can't say I blame your ds one bit for not going. I wonder how many people will actually show up.
Ginny, I love that flower and contact paper idea. I may have to try it with my youngest grands if I get the chance. I'll have to remember to take my sticks with me and get some clear contact paper.
I've decided to make my expected DGGS some cowboy boots. I found a youtube for some cute ones. She does a terrible job on youtube but I think I can get it figured out ok. Prob is she has both closed captioning and subitles and they don't match. I can't hear what people are saying so have to use cc.
Dh liked his apple pie. He had to have a piece while it was still warm.

Hello Everyone Ginny - The flower craft is so cute, I bet your DD is going to love that gift from her child for Mother's Day Sorry you have to go to the memorial service, I understand being hesitant. I hope it doesn't last too long. Ruth - Your apple pie sounds good, I'm sure your DH did like it Cowboy boots sound so cute, I'm glad you figured out how to make them. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are doing well. I ended up going to Costco yesterday morning because I had to buy a new printer. I needed to print out the contract from the lawn service, sign it, scan it, and email it back to them to get me signed up. Of course, I went to print it out and my printer would not print black ink! I did buy a new one that took me over and hour to get working right. So I was able to get the contract taken care of yesterday and they confirmed it today. Now I just have to call the guy who cut my grass last week and tell him I won't be needed him this summer. I don't like doing that but I tried to tell him several times I wanted to go with a company and he just kept pushing me to say he would do it. I can't risk him having a health problem/other problem and not being able to cut my grass so I have to go with a company. At least I was able to stock up on a few things while I was in Costco. Today I went and bought groceries at the store I go to about once a month. So I'm stocked up pretty well with groceries for a few weeks. I'm happy not to have to go to the grocery store again for awhile. With all I was doing the last 2 days I haven't done any quilting/crafting, but hopefully I can get some done this weekend. The weather has been cooler so it's comfortable in the house again, it had gotten pretty hot there a few days. Take care everyone!

Printers can really be a huge pain in the neck. I'm glad you got a new one and were able to get it all set up and have the contract already in the hands of the company who will do your lawn this summer. I always dread telling a person or even a company that I'm not going to use them anymore. I did that recently with my garbage company and I'm happy with the one I have now. This new company offered every two week pickup as one of their choices and we don't need more than that so why pay for full time when you only need every two or three weeks.
I'm glad you were able to stock up, CJ, I know how you dread going to the grocery store. We don't have a Costco here but I guess you can order online. My dil told me about the nasal strips she uses and that she gets them at Costco. I just ordered a bunch for me from Amazon but if we ever get there I'll go to Costco with her and get some. I sleep 100% better when I can breath.
I haven't accomplished much today. I did straighten up a little and also went through a really big box of things we were going to take to Indiana. We won't really need all that we've packed so I took some things out of this box but there are several others I need to go through. Now onto crocheting. We are in cowboy land so a little boy needs his boots. I think those are what I'll work on today. Last night I made about seven scrunchies before I went to sleep and they will be for my ds' third daughter.

Ruth, are you crocheting cowboy boots?? They sound adorable, and yes the little one needs them for sure!!!
CJ- glad you got the printer and your landscaping issues straightened out. BIg relief. I had a BJ’s membership and like Costco, it seems silly to have a membership like that sometimes, but they have such good deals. Good luck with the new printer.
DD came over for dinner- pleasant evening with her.
See ya tomorrow. Ginny

Good morning- started a post and it was lost. Ugh. Guess if this is the worst thing that happens to me I will consider myself blessed
Ruth, I did check out cowboy boots online, and some patterns for them and they are adorable. I can imagine they must be challenging to crochet a lot of corners and turns to make a boot shaped garment. But if anybody can figure that out it’s you. Packing for Indiana would be a challenge, and I know that you’re trying to gauge your trip they are based upon where the climate will be best for the season. That’s always an unpredictable variable and of course typical weather patterns can vary. I always figured that if there is a Walmart not too far away that it was OK to forget stuff you could replace it if necessary.
CJ, you will get your crafting momentum back. Glad to hear that the weather‘s been pleasant and you are and you don’t mind being in your home and you’re not too hot or too cold. How’s that printer working? And yes it’s so uncomfortable having to tell someone you’re not gonna use their services anymore. But you have to do what is best for you.
I did work this am.....and am catching up on some bills and email. Want to get a walk in soon. And I hope that the plumber I called to ask to fix my outdoor spigot really shows up today as promised, or I will have to do what CJ did and call another plumber. See ya later. G

I have to say that my work on my cowboy boots was not as good as it should be. They're still cute and for the length of time a baby could actually wear them they're fine. The second boot turned out better than the first. Since today is Friday I will try to finish a few things, one of them being the boots. I still have to do the strap and the star. I made them a little larger than the newborn size because dgd has big feet and the baby might also. I'm going to pick two other things to completely finish and then decide what I want to work on after that. Here's the link for the actual one I'm making. www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsorELUpTSY&t=398sGinny, i hope that plumber does show up and that he does a good job.

Hello Everyone Ginny - Hope the plumber shows up for you today and gets that fixed for you. Ruth - Thanks for that link, those little cowboy booties are so cute!! I hope they'll send you a picture of the baby wearing them. My printer seems to be working well. It's one of those that they want you to keep on all the time, but I turn off and unplug my computer at night, so everytime I turn it on in the morning the printer comes on I was able to talk to the guy that cut my grass last weekend and he was understanding that I wanted to go with a company. I really think my yard would have been too much for him without a riding mower and dangerous for him if he tried to ride the mower up and down this racetrack (road) I live on! Hopefully the rest of the season with the yard will go well. I had to turn on my furnace this morning since it was only 67 degrees in the house. I had hoped not to use it anymore until later this year, but I don't want my body to get used to cooler temps in the house so that I won't be able to stand it when it gets into the 80s inside this summer. At least I was able to check for any more leaks and I don't see any. I did start working a bit on the next quilt top I'm going to make too. I'm going to do a jelly roll race variation using the rest of those Little House on the Prairie fat quarters. I have them all cut into 2.5 inch strips and I've sorted them out for how I want to sew them together. I'm going to do the variation where you put a 2.5 inch square between each strip and I'm using a white fabric for that. Since none of my strips are long - the longest is about 21 inches - it's going to be interesting to see how this works out. I figure worst case scenario if I don't like it I can cut the top up into pieces and make a different quilt Hope all of you get to do some crafting this weekend and have a wonderful one

Ruth, those boots are adorable!! I can see why the video is somewhat frustrating to you videos are great but I do best with a combination of a video and written instructions (then I can keep track of where I am).. Now that you have set your mind to finish two other projects today, I feel confident that you will be able to do just that....and I am sure will find other projects you want to work on also!
CJ- so glad you successfully communicated with the man who did cut your grass last week.(who knows, he might be relieved to be not needed for your yard anymore!). Like you I have had to turn on the heat a few times. I do not like to be hot, but also do not want to be too cold either. Love your approach to the little house fabric quilt! Sounds like a plan and adding a 2.5 inch square into the strips will help break up the fabric a bit (you had mentioned earlier not loving the fabric all that much, or perhaps not liking all the fabrics in the line) Absolutely you could cut the strips into another size and perhaps have a crazy quilt sort of look. Good luck with it and have fun.
Off to use up another bobbin....ha ha ha. Yes the plumber was here and I am back in business. He did have to cut a hole in the sheet rock, so now I will have to repair that. I am not really good with sheet rock repairs, but will manage. And I did want to repaint that room- just not this soon.

CJ, I think you have a great plan for that quilt. I think it will come out beautiful with those white blocks but if you don't like it, yes, you have a plan for that too. I'm glad that man was understanding about you going with a company instead of him. It sounds to me like the job would have been well beyond his capabilities.
Ginny, I can't wait to see your finished product when you get all the machine quilting done. When will you get the baby quilt back? Too bad it wasn't available for the baby shower.
I don't have a furnace but we have had to put our heater on recently. They say rain and/or snow at the beginning of the week so will probably have to use it then.
I did get some ends woven in on face scrubbies and scrunchies so two groups of things are done. I haven't started on the finishing of the cowboy boots.I will do that today though and finish a hat I picked up last night. I had started it sometime in the last few months and worked on it a little bit last night. That will count as last Sunday's hat to donate.
When I crochet something from a video I usually watch it and write down the pattern. I love that you can go to settings and slow down or speed up the video and you can also forward or go back to see something again. Some videos are so tedious that you have to fast forward through some parts. After writing down the pattern on the boots, today I found the same boots have a written pattern available with a different person. The only difference in it is that this person didn't put that band on. The band is nice because it covers any mistakes you may have made changing colors from the blue back to brown.

Happy Saturday!
Ruth, I’m glad you were able to find it hard to work on. Did you have the pattern written down for that one or were you able to just look at it and figure out what you need to do to finish it. I hope that the donation centers are now excepting things again, I know that I’ve donated goods to a charity several times this spring, but I also know that not all entities are excepting donations yet. Like you, I write down a crochet pattern as I watch your video. Of course some people it’s just much easier to do that with, and some people are way too chatty. Glad you were able to find the pattern for the boots somewhere else and I’m sure adding the band is an easy step for you even if you don’t have the directions.
Think i’m about 40% done with the stitching on the quilt. I took it off the machine last night because I had to make new Bobbins. One of my goals today is to actually look at the book that I bought for free motion quilting and see if there’s some tips I can pick up from that. I’ve looked at it before but now that I’ve got a little more experience I have more questions in my head.
This morning it’s kind of drizzly and damp. I just went outside and it’s just not a very nice day. But I have some work to do out there and a lot of yard to clean up. So maybe I’ll do a little bit of that. I think my oldest daughter is coming over this afternoon for a little bit.
Hope everybody has a great day and get some crafting in!

Hello Everyone Ruth - Hope you were able to finish the cowboy boots. You always have a nice mix of projects going on Ginny - I'm glad you are almost half way done on the machine quilting and hope you can find some tips to help you finish Phyl and Sue - Hope you are doing well There have been a few showers yesterday and today and the temperatures on the in 60s, just nice weather for me. The showers today came through while the sun was out, I always find that strange. I did run the furnace again today for a bit to warm up the house. I figure there will only be a few more weeks needed for that. I'm not looking forward to "air conditioner season" I did a lot of piecing on the jelly roll race variation quilt this morning. I have all the white squares sewn on and my fabrics are separated into 5 groups of a long strip. Now I just need to join those strips together (which is really quick) and then fold the long strip in half and sew those two parts together. It's going to be interesting to see how this comes out because my fabrics are not set up like a jelly roll and I also have a longer length than it would be with one jelly roll. Hopefully it won't turn out too crazy I do have to say that working up close with all those fabrics from that group was enjoyable. Some of the fabrics are really pretty and I would have liked to have a yard or so of it. But this line is several years old and I don't like it enough to search the Internet for it Take care everyone!

Ginny, you seem to be coming along very well with your quilt. I'm glad your machine is now cooperating and the machine embroidery is also going well. Looking at tips never hurts. You never know when you'll find something very helpful. I guess I'll have to do the same about the yard soon. Today is much cooler and very much more windy so no outdoor stuff today.
CJ, It would be great if you could find more of that fabric since you like it so much. I think all companies feel as though they have to change things often and they also often discontinue things that we and many others love. It's so disappointing when they do that
Well I did get all the things finished that I had on my list for yesterday. None required a lot of work. The hat was the item that took the most time. I do think that I want to make one more cowboy boot because of of the pair I made is crooked and I just don't like it that way sespite the fact that maybe no one else would even notice. I got the shark applique for the blanket almost done. I still have to embroider on the eye and gills and then sew it on the blanket. I hope to do that today but I really don't feel like it. I think I'll dig out some yarn for the two remaining pocket shawls I need to make.
I hope you both have a great rest of the day and Ginny, that you enjoy visiting with your dd.
