Welcome to our 2021 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post

NEW CHALLENGE
CARING April 5 - July 4
âYour body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care" - Buddha
This challenge is about caring about and for yourself. So often we get caught up in taking care of everyone else that we donât give ourselves the care we need. Or we give up caring about ourselves. A variety of reasons and for no reason, it just happens. The hard part is to recognize it and once you do, it is hard to explain because very few want to acknowledge it. You get kudos for taking care of others, not so much for taking of yourself. Not caring about yourself can leave an emptiness that you may try to fill with food and alcohol. The emptiness remains, just stuffed down. We want and need more for ourselves. So letâs begin!
Treat yourself the way youâd treat someone you love.
Love yourself first and the rest will follow.
Focus on health and well being
So how do you begin to care about yourself?
Eating fruits and vegetables sounds like a plan. So does drinking water!!
Walking up a flight of stairs without gasping for breath. Your heart will thank you.
If you donât want to be AF then restrict the amount and limit the days you will allow yourself a drink. But remember if 10 is not enough, one is too many.
Start with baby steps. Making too many changes at once can be discouraging so start small. Have you been slacking on flossing daily? Then start making it a ritual. Do you drink soda for energy? Start cutting back by one.
Treat yourself to something you enjoy. Buying the store brand face cream will sit on the counter. If you have a favorite, budget it in as a necessityâŚ.better than buying alcohol! Maybe getting a manicure or pedicure is important to you yet you deny it for yourself. Ask yourself why.
Make a list of indulgences that arenât food or alcohol and start sprinkling them into your life.
Ask for what you need. Too many times we get into a funk and we donât ask for help. You are loved and we want to help each other.
Curb all the justification. Sometimes you just have to do something because you want to do it. You donât have to explain yourself!
Think of your successesâŚ.add three things that went well today to your daily journal. What?? you arenât journaling? Journaling is caring!
LET THE CARING BEGIN!!

Good Morning!
Good Morning Murphy! Hope your weather improves soon! Stay safe!
Big puddles in the yard...hard to sleep through the night...as soon as I drifted off, BOOM! Rain is suppose to restart this afternoon so need to figure out if there is anything that I really need outside in the world!
Be back in awhile!
Hugs, Cindy

May2: 193.6 May 9: May 16: May 23: May 31: June 6: June 13: June 20: June 27 July 4: Good morning all. Still gray here this morning but may get a bit of sun. Feel like I'm getting in a good rhythm and I'm happy with what is getting done each day. Dropped off my cameras, they will let me know this weekend if there is any $$ to be made there. I'm really just as interested in trading most of it for one really nice camera, we'll see. Car guy called and says my car is ordered and now we wait. Spread the first 1/2 of the grass seed on the one side of the lawn and it benefited from yesterdays rain. Booked a cabin in Tenn. for 2 nights, even has a hot tub if I need it after two nights sleeping on the ground Also saw a big one there called the Owl's Nest, so when we're all ready to go down to visit Barb we can stay there!! Got DH a flight to Denver for when we start our trip to Yosemite at the end of the month and have been starting to book hotels for the drive. Felt good to commit to some of these plans and get started making them a reality. Talked to the contractor Nic and he got his daughter in contact with me about watching the cats so that is a load off my mind. Now to just enjoy my day, maybe get the basement paint, we bought a small sample yesterday to see if we can find a "white" we like....why are there 100's of the color white? ? We went with Ivory Dust, which seems appropriate as that's what we've been cleaning up for weeks down there from all the drywall sanding!! ha ha Now to be patient, wait for things to fall into place with the car, travel, summer plans and cabin opening. Just keep taking care of me and let the universe take care of the rest. Hope you all have a lovely Tuesday, Jan Murphy Hope the storm gets done and you don't lose power. Part of why I wanted a cabin was for that reason, if you all get a rainy spell at least we can all go hang out, play games and get dry even if the kids have to go back and sleep in the tents for the last two nights. They're young and it will be fine, but we have options. Glad you liked the new girl who did your nails. Cindy You have been having the crazy weather!! Hope you can get in what you need, anything blow away with the winds last night? Yay for the orchid blooming. Maybe it will be a nice day for a nap at your house. Amy I'm glad Annie now gets to be an indoor cat and enjoy her kingdom. yay for your vegetables starting to fruit, hope the rain storms didn't affect any of them. Did you get an afternoon nap? That cat "sound" is the most effective wake up call ever!! Hope he's feeling ok today. Are you still trying to cut back on the Pred. or level off? Do any OTC seem to work for the pains? Hi to all, will check in later.

Still doing Conquer Cravings and counting every point. Scale still thinking about dropping. I feel good in my skin so even if it doesn't drop quickly I feel good. No alcohol in the house and no plans to buy any. Part is calories and wanting to lose, part is the price of it with the change in currency value and part is the alcohol and wanting to not end up having more than a glass or two.
I have read all the posts and it sounds like everyone is busier or at least busier outside the house than I am! I have a book I need to read today and a Zoom event tonight to do with Calligraphy and Mother's Day. Mom is gone BUT it might be interesting to see what the presenter has to share.

We have a break in the storms. It's supposed to come another round of storms mid morning but right now the birds are chirping. I'm really bummed because I pulled out my steam cleaner and wanted to do the floors but it has quit working! It's only a couple of years old and to be honest, it hasn't been used that much but I'm still bummed! Will have to decide if I'm going to replace it or just use a regular mop at least for a while.
Jan - yay for booking the cabin! I sure hope we can meet for a meal while you are here! I think it is crazy that there are a zillion paint colors that are so close to each other!
Amy - I'm so glad that Annie has adjusted to her own kingdom inside! Have fun with your container gardening!
I need to run to Aldi for coffee creamer and some celery but I'll try to do that between showers and storms. Rain has started again now! I'll try to check in later! Murphy

May the Fourth be with you.
It rained most of the day, with lots thunder. Annie didn't like it much, I spent some time with her in the basement. There were tornadoes in the area, but none near us. The washer is acting up again, so I ordered a new one, as well as the matching dryer. I haven't had a matching washer and dryer in my entire married life, I am justifying the purchase that it will save on energy costs, hopefully. They are supposed to be delivered a week from tomorrow. It finally stopped raining around 6pm, we went out to check out the new concrete and yard. Everything looked pretty good, although there was some soil erosion around the new concrete steps. We are planning on planting some kind of ground cover to hold the soil, maybe more juniper. Chatted with the neighbor from across the fence, apparently she had looked at our house when she bought hers.
It gray and gloomy and supposed to rain again today. We are going to head out for a walk shortly. Fingers crossed we beat the rain.
Murphy- Yay for getting your nails done, stocking up on meat for the freezer. Hope the thunderstorm passes and you keep your power.
Cindy- Looked like you were getting some nasty weather when I watched the 11pm news. Yay for the orchid blooming.
Jan- WTG AF102, OP, blue dot, steps, making reservations for your trips. Glad you've established a good rhythm and are happy with what you are getting done. LOL over the name Ivory Dust. I am tapering off the Prednisone by 1mg every two weeks. If I can keep this schedule, I'll be off of it in a month or so, although she said to go by how I feel. I take Tylenol every morning and before bed.

Hi girls! As always, had a fun time with Rylee. We had to stay inside because of rain, which was good for Grandmas hip! I think she played with every single toy I have, and thatâs a lot of toys! Itâs always a sure sign that sheâs had fun when she doesnât want to go home! She is learning that there are some words little girls shouldnât say. She will do some kind of an imaginary language in a sing song voice that includes the word sh*t. Then she looks at you to see if you heard. I told her we donât talk like that and just moved on. Never heard it again. Testing those boundaries! Cindy: Crazy weather! Yay for your orchid blooming! Amy: I would think tornado warnings would be a little nerve wracking for you! Iâm glad the serious weather wasnât close to you! Cathy: So when you joined our group, was it to slow down the A, go AF, or did you think not drinking as much would help with the weight loss? I never intended to go AF. I always planned on learning to control it. Not having it in the house would help regardless! Jan: I missed the part of your post that said you would be sleeping in tents on the ground. WHY? Lol No way!! Iâm glad you got the cabin too! I am finishing up an OP week! As of today I got 7 blue dots and have 27 weeklies left! That doesnât always work for me. Weâll see what the scale does tomorrow. Iâm in a good mindset at the moment! Murphy: Sorry about the steam cleaner! Our topic this week with WW is neuroplasticity or some such thing. Itâs the idea we can make new paths in our brain. This is what I remember from the AE. We donât have to go down the path that is taking us away from our goal of being AF as long as we are aware of the point when we want to go down the downtrodden path of AIE and AF. If we are aware, we can make the choice of doing something small that can move us down the right path. The more we practice it, the more that path will get well worn and the easier it will be. For me, like at a restaurant, the choice point comes to what I order. The first time I ordered a Diet Pepsi over A was HARD! But I chose it. Now I âusuallyâ donât even think about it. Same with eating. The first time I ordered a low point dinner over a weekly busting dinner it was hard. But now it is âusuallyâ easy. Now that we are eating out more, I need to remember that! Just some food for thought!

Hi friends! We have a water retention area just down a ways from our house. I bring Bowie, his ball and a tennis racquet. He loves chasing the ball! Then when heâs tired he just plops down in the middle of the grass. I just saw 2 geese, yuck, and 2 babies ( at least theyâre cute!) Iâm meeting my friend tomorrow to hit some golf balls and go for a drinkâIâll be having Diet Coke. Depending on Tylerâs baseball team, he could come home Saturday or Tuesday. I canât believe this year flew by. Iâll try for personals tomorrow, Iâm meeting my dad for half price pizza. Have a great night!

Hi All!
Gloomy day but not too much rain...enough to sink in to the ground but I needed to add chlorine to the septic system and there were fire ants near by, bird feeders needed filling and if you give a mouse a cookie....
The pyracantha are definitely dead but once I pull them out, the outside wall will need to be painted....the whole house could use a painting but that wall is the worse of the worse. Couldn't be done while the pyracantha were in their glory due to their nasty thorns. Thinking of replacing them with shade loving holly bushes. But want to make a complete plan before I do anything. So the dead bushes will remain for now.
Jan, glad you are getting into a good rhythm, always makes things easier. I hope you have good news from the car dealer! You'll have to check out the Owl's Nest! It is amazing how many shades of a basic color are available. My father had a cousin who could do an amazing job mixing paints to match a color before it all became computerized. I know I am physically beyond camping...not even sure I could glamping. I like creature comforts like indoor plumbing. Glad you have options!
Cathy, happy you are feeling good in your own skin. Sounds like you are making thoughtful decisions which lead to success. Enjoy your zoom events.
Murphy, glad you are happy with your new manicurist. Counts for a lot! Hope the storms stopped. Sorry the steam cleaner isn't working. I have a "shark" I barely use for the floors and rug...I probably should check to see if it works.
Amy, I can imagine Annie didn't like the thunder...glad you could be with her. Ainsley heads for under my bed, that is her safe space. Glad the tornados went around you! Woot for a new washing machine and matching dryer. Hope the soil erosion wasn't too bad. Were you able to get your walk in between rain storms?
GG, glad Rylee understood about the word. I listen to some of the little kids...five and six, talk to each other and there is no way I would tolerate it but I think they must hear the words from their parents or school friends. Fingers crossed for the scale behaving. The topic sounds interesting.
Carole, sounds like a fun exercise with Bowie! I saw my first Canadian geese in my area today. They were flying away! I can remember what a mess they made in other areas we lived in. Enjoy hitting the golf balls and the diet Coke!
Liz, c'mon back! We are missing your posts!
I sorted through a lot of letters and cards today, shredding many but reading some of them became very difficult as I knew what was coming. Did other odds and ends but didn't get my steps in. I need to restructure my days!
Hope everyone had a wonderful day! hugs, Cindy
