Welcome to our 2021 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post

NEW CHALLENGE
CARING April 5 - July 4
“Your body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care" - Buddha
This challenge is about caring about and for yourself. So often we get caught up in taking care of everyone else that we don’t give ourselves the care we need. Or we give up caring about ourselves. A variety of reasons and for no reason, it just happens. The hard part is to recognize it and once you do, it is hard to explain because very few want to acknowledge it. You get kudos for taking care of others, not so much for taking of yourself. Not caring about yourself can leave an emptiness that you may try to fill with food and alcohol. The emptiness remains, just stuffed down. We want and need more for ourselves. So let’s begin!
Treat yourself the way you’d treat someone you love.
Love yourself first and the rest will follow.
Focus on health and well being
So how do you begin to care about yourself?
Eating fruits and vegetables sounds like a plan. So does drinking water!!
Walking up a flight of stairs without gasping for breath. Your heart will thank you.
If you don’t want to be AF then restrict the amount and limit the days you will allow yourself a drink. But remember if 10 is not enough, one is too many.
Start with baby steps. Making too many changes at once can be discouraging so start small. Have you been slacking on flossing daily? Then start making it a ritual. Do you drink soda for energy? Start cutting back by one.
Treat yourself to something you enjoy. Buying the store brand face cream will sit on the counter. If you have a favorite, budget it in as a necessity….better than buying alcohol! Maybe getting a manicure or pedicure is important to you yet you deny it for yourself. Ask yourself why.
Make a list of indulgences that aren’t food or alcohol and start sprinkling them into your life.
Ask for what you need. Too many times we get into a funk and we don’t ask for help. You are loved and we want to help each other.
Curb all the justification. Sometimes you just have to do something because you want to do it. You don’t have to explain yourself!
Think of your successes….add three things that went well today to your daily journal. What?? you aren’t journaling? Journaling is caring!
LET THE CARING BEGIN!!

Good morning everyone!
Yesterday was an AF/OP day, one day down, today to go! Finally waking up to sunshine today, hopefully it stays this way for a while. Nothing much planned today, just going to the hair dresser for a cut and color, then stopping by the market to pick up a few things to help me stay on track.
Cindy~ I am going to call you the orchid whisperer, lol! Good girl passing up TJMAXX; I have to tell myself, there are needs and there are wants. Glad you were able to duck out back and avoid the seven mile backup.
Amy~ Do you think your replacement will last? They seem to rely on you during your retirement a lot, did you expect this would happen once you retired? Always good to have a little extra money, but it sounds like she is relying on you more than she should.
Murphy~ Hope your power is back and glad you were ok!
Jan~ Congratulations to DS for his award, that is really awesome! I like the way you are setting your goal for the #AF days in small increments; I think I will set mine for 25 to start. What knitting project are you working on? I am on baby blanket #3 with 2 more to go!
GG~ WTG losing half your weight gain! Hope you don't get any side effects from the second shot.
Cathy~ Yay for the 30 minute walk and exercising!
Hi Carole!

May2: 193.6 May 9: May 16: May 23: May 31: June 6: June 13: June 20: June 27 July 4: Good Morning friends. Wet and gray again this morning but hoping for some clearing this afternoon. Higher point day yesterday and probably today too. I had already "promised" myself I could go indulge in the $1 Culvers scoop today to benefit FFA That may be lunch, DH just made scrambled eggs for breakfast and I told him to expect chicken Caeser salad for dinner, if he's feeling well enough after his shot. I may still be able to squeak out my blue dot, but either way going to celebrate a week AF! If we get a nice day this weekend I will probably run up to the cabin just to pick up some things. We have a screened tent up there I will get for the camping trip and some extra camping chairs. The tent wouldn't be for sleeping necessarily but would help to sit in if it's buggy or wet. Could set it up over the cooking table. Talking to DS, they are now up to @ 10 others, a couple from their apt. a girl who went through the program with them who's coming from Indiana, his friends from Calif. DH will now just worry about bringing food for us, some snacks to share and let the kids do their own thing. Getting excited. Preparing for the fact I may have to drive the car I have down or rent something bigger if it seems necessary. Our stuff would fit and be fine, but we are still stopping in Louisville on the way home to pick up a car engine and some parts....not sure where they will fit. No big plans for today, saw an estate/plant sale I may drive by before getting my custard! Finn came home without his collar so need to go get him another name tag. Hope you all have a happy Thursday. Jan Murphy Hope your internet came back and the storms are past. Can you please get all that weather to move through before next week Liz Yay for an OP AF day. Yep, baby steps seem to work for me. And keeping the junk out of the house. I've finally convinced DH that if we order pizza, 14" is fine!! He can have a few left overs for the next day but we don't need a 20+ inch pizza for 2 of us and then I just keep eating. I'm going to wait til the day or so before our trip to make some cookies or treats to take camping and then all the kids can share. I'm currently working on a 2nd sock to finish a pair I started before Christmas. then not sure what I want to tackle next. Enjoy your sun! I'm also going to set up a cut and color appt in the next few days. Been over a year and 1/2! Cathy I like the idea of the metal monster. I am trying to move my focus away from the scale and know this is long term so may as well learn the routine and stick with it. My brain is already going back and forth about this trip next week. A beer or wine at the campfire has been standard routine for many years. If I start, can I stop? My thought for now is, don't drink because you don't want to have to get up in the night and go to the bathroom!! Ha Ha. Hope you're able to get your second shot on time. Now they can hardly give them away here as the folks who want them have gotten them and now they're trying to convince the rest of the folks they're safe. Enjoy the fruits!! I bought a fresh pineapple we cut up yesterday, it tastes divine!! Hoping to find a watermelon soon! Cindy I don't feel sorry for your ants. Some things just don't need sympathy, even if they're part of the big picture. Glad you escaped the traffic jam and got home alright with your lovely lavender making your car smell peaceful I'm sure. This GF has been camping and is pretty adventurous. Part of the appeal I think. I did see a post from the old GF where she was standing in a meadow down in Yosemite this week, kind of ironic as we were just there with them 2 years ago and I don't think she'd ever gone before DS took her. At least opened some windows for her and she seems to be doing alright. I hope she finds the right person and is happy. yay for you orchids blooming, what color are they? GG You knew the scale would go down, now we just keep working at it!! Once the kids get to school or daycare, there's no protecting them from the behavior of others. But, that is where parenting comes in, can't just always protect and keep the "bad" things away, have to actually teach our kids right and wrong, dealing with conflict, accepting others....that's the concept I think a lot of parents are missing. Rant over How did you do after your second shot? Rest and more rest if you need it. Amy It does seem like you are still working remotely A LOT. What will they do if you take the trip to Washington and can't get you? Maybe that will be a good time to cut back, unless you still enjoy it and the $$. Did you get to HOme Depot? Would you get a colored Hydrangea or colored? We have never had one, but both out neighbors have them in front so I get to enjoy them. Ysy for watching the birds out the window. I have seen the Cardinals a lot more lately but still no hummers. Maybe they just dont' see our feeder in the back because or the fence or something. I may try it in the front yard for awhile and see if we get any. I will have to look up UP TV, haven't heard of that one. On Mother's Day I plan to go to our museum/garden center, The Paine to see all the flowers blooming. They are having free admission and I want to take photos. Hope the wet doesn't mess up the blooms before then. Carole Hope you had a good day. Will you see any more of Ty's games before he's done? Any trips planned for this summer? Time to get dressed and moving. Check in later.

Labor of Loving yourself first! April 5 - July 4
April 5 start weight: 176.9 April 12: 177.5 April 19: 177 April 26: 177.2 May2: 177.5 May 9: May 16: May 23: May 31: June 6: June 13: June 20: June 27 July 4:
I started the day finishing up items I promised the boss, the we went to walk. The sun was starting to peek out as the clouds cleared while we walking. The creek sure is high after the rain, with a swift current. I headed out after lunch to plant shop, bought two small junipers and a purple hydrangea at Home Depot, as well as a double shepherd's hook for the bird feeders we bought at a garage sale. I could not find any pine straw though. DH called me on the way home to warn me that there was a crew cleaning our gutters. Apparently they were doing the neighbor's house and knocked on the door to ask if we wanted ours done too. We don't ordinarily accept such offers, but we were going to hire someone anyway and the gutters definitely needed cleaning. DH struck up a conversation with guy who also does landscaping services. He got a quote for tackling weed hill, laying down pine straw and sod. We're going to do a little research on the business, but will probably use them. It will be a relief to have it done. We didn't have Cinco de Mayo fare for dinner either, DH grilled chicken breasts, mushrooms, sweet peppers, onions.
I think my replacement is doing fine. She has a better work-life balance than I did. The first week of the month is always busy and then the boss keeps throwing other stuff at her to do. I don't mind helping to the extent that I do and it's nice to still get a small paycheck. I also would not mind NOT working.
Today is starting out sunny and a little cooler. It will be a good day to get the plants in the ground and maybe mow.
Liz- You've had a busy week. The brunch did look fabulous, glad Isabel was such an angel. WTG getting BOT/AF. Yay for the return of the sun and getting a cut & color.
GG- Yay for the scale coming down, getting your second shot and a new hip by the end of the challenge.
Cindy- WTG getting your errands done and avoiding the traffic jam. Thanks for sharing about Murphy.
Carole- I got a suspicious message from "you" on Messenger. Have you been hacked?
Jan- WTG AF104, tracking, steps. Congrats to DS on his rookie nurse award. Sorry about the long wait at the dealer and Finn coming home without his collar. Yay for the trip to Culver's and the upcoming camping trip. UpTV is similar to the Hallmark channel, with more of a Christian focus in some of it's programming. They even show some older Hallmark movies and a lot of reruns, Little House of the Prairie, Reba, etc.
Cathy- WTG tracking, staying positive, increasing activity, strength and flexibility. Glad you enjoyed reading the author's books. I worked at the hospital for 34 years, the last 8 as system administrator for the operating room.
Murphy- Hope you get your internet back soon.

Hi girls! I awoke to a sore arm and a bit of a headache and just feel tired after my shot. DH said he’s got chills and a headache and sore arm. We’re going to have a nice lazy day. I’ll take it! We ended up at a steakhouse last night. I was really fighting myself. The salmon was 3 points, and the steak was 8. But I really wanted the steak. I enjoyed it, and even had the warm bread, and still got a blue dot! That’s why I love purple. I had oatmeal and a banana for breakfast. An omelet and an apple and a pear for lunch. 0 points. Then I could enjoy dinner without putting myself on a diet. I’m trying to stay away from the diet mentality. Last night it worked!
Cindy: I’m so glad you were able to go the back way! I’m going to admit something. I think lavender stinks! Lol I’ve actually never smelled the plant, but all the soaps etc aren’t very pleasing to my nose! Lol Yay for the 2nd orchid blooming!
Murphy: Are you feeling lost or enjoying the time without the internet? I always feel lost. Shows how much I’m hooked!
Jan: Congrats to DS!!!! That is awesome!! Oh that Finn! Whenever we go visit my aunt, my hometown, we will visit Hanks frozen Custard. But, I always get their sherbert!
Cathy: Your menu sounded delicious!

Hi all! Just a quick check in to let you know I'm still here! No internet yesterday and now my macbook has died! I am posting from my old HP now. My mac is less than a year old! Anyway - I will keep working on it and am thankful that I have this laptop even though it's slow as molasses! I hate computers!

Hi friends! Yesterday I hit golf balls and went to a Mexican restaurant with a friend. I told her I couldn’t drink, she said we didn’t have to go out after. I said of course we’re going. And guess what, I had a (huge) beer👎🏻 I didn’t think it was going to be so big, of course I could’ve not drank all of it. Honestly, I don’t know why I ordered it. Thinking back, I’m not sure if the first sip was even all that good. I need to get BOT. I had a great mindset then I hit the off switch.
Liz, ty just finished his junior year! He had 2 years left as he wants to be a CPA and needs the additional year. I hope we get to see Isabel in her knitted fireman’s outfit! We did get out opening pool supplies but will get more shock now that you told me about the chlorine shortage!!
Jan, you must be so proud of DS, that is just wonderful! Little Finn is adventurous ! I want to go somewhere this summer, probably first week of August, before Tyler goes back to school. I’m thinking Maine. Ocean for me and Alexis, beautiful state park for me and Tyler. DH just does whatever but will probably like the park more. Tys team starts conference playoffs tomorrow. I believe they have to win it all in order to continue on to the World Series.
Alexis needs surgery on her other ankle. Ugh. It’s not bad, she has a bone chip and frayed tendons. Recovery shouldn’t be bad, one week not much weight, second week boot third week in a shoe. She feels good from Covid, thank God. Hello to all, need to hit the hay, gotta get up in 6 hours or so.
