Welcome to our 2021 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post

NEW CHALLENGE
CARING April 5 - July 4
“Your body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care" - Buddha
This challenge is about caring about and for yourself. So often we get caught up in taking care of everyone else that we don’t give ourselves the care we need. Or we give up caring about ourselves. A variety of reasons and for no reason, it just happens. The hard part is to recognize it and once you do, it is hard to explain because very few want to acknowledge it. You get kudos for taking care of others, not so much for taking of yourself. Not caring about yourself can leave an emptiness that you may try to fill with food and alcohol. The emptiness remains, just stuffed down. We want and need more for ourselves. So let’s begin!
Treat yourself the way you’d treat someone you love.
Love yourself first and the rest will follow.
Focus on health and well being
So how do you begin to care about yourself?
Eating fruits and vegetables sounds like a plan. So does drinking water!!
Walking up a flight of stairs without gasping for breath. Your heart will thank you.
If you don’t want to be AF then restrict the amount and limit the days you will allow yourself a drink. But remember if 10 is not enough, one is too many.
Start with baby steps. Making too many changes at once can be discouraging so start small. Have you been slacking on flossing daily? Then start making it a ritual. Do you drink soda for energy? Start cutting back by one.
Treat yourself to something you enjoy. Buying the store brand face cream will sit on the counter. If you have a favorite, budget it in as a necessity….better than buying alcohol! Maybe getting a manicure or pedicure is important to you yet you deny it for yourself. Ask yourself why.
Make a list of indulgences that aren’t food or alcohol and start sprinkling them into your life.
Ask for what you need. Too many times we get into a funk and we don’t ask for help. You are loved and we want to help each other.
Curb all the justification. Sometimes you just have to do something because you want to do it. You don’t have to explain yourself!
Think of your successes….add three things that went well today to your daily journal. What?? you aren’t journaling? Journaling is caring!
LET THE CARING BEGIN!!

May2: 193.6 May 9: May 16: May 23: May 31: June 6: June 13: June 20: June 27 July 4: Good morning all. The coffee is kicking in and I'm ready to start my day! It's a beautiful sunny morning but chilly. See what I get done outside but not going to push it. DH said the chills, headache and achy body kicked in last night so he won't be much help today, just glad he's had both shots now before we travel. I had fun exploring the sales yesterday, found some garden junk "treasures", a small red wagon, old blue bucket, red toolbox and some nice perennials. I'm going to plant them all in the back yard. DH will let me have the "Junk" garden decorations inside the fence, not in the front Also got some new ideas for the front and may search out some of those plants today. Supposed to hear from the camera store today to see if I have anything worth selling there. Car guy said they are checking on my car, tick tock, I hoped we would be driving it to Tennessee next Friday so I'm just keeping an open mind and expecting the best. Had a message that Sis fell off her horse when it spooked on Wednesday, good bump on the head and sore. She seems to be fine, was checked out, no concussion or problems and did actually get her 2nd vac the next day still. Will be good to see her if I drive up to the cabin tomorrow for a quick trip, they also have $$ for me for my car that they're going to buy. Thanks for all the love about DS, seems like a good month for momma's, with Ty's award and now Tates. HOpe you all have a fabulous Friday. Jan Amy Hope work didn't take up too much of the day. Yay for the gutters getting done and hopefully for finding someone to tackle weed hill! You always amaze me with how many steps and AP you get. Are you putting regular bird feeders up with seeds or more hummingbird feeders on the shepards hook? I moved my hook and cleaned my feeder yesterday hoping to entice the hummers, will see if I notice any today. When do you head to Indiana? Murphy Glad your internet came back on but boo that your Mac Book stopped. That seems very unusual, even if you bought it used, which I don't remember. Take it to Best Buy or somewhere and have them check, I have had the light go dark and the computer was still running but they fixed it and mine is pretty old. Hope it works out. Has Judy planted the pots yet? Some of the color plants I got yesterday are still on the porch because there is still chance of cold nights, can't wait to get some veggies out too. Liz That's a lot of baby blankets, will you ever be able to say no more to all of DD friends and family We can make 25 days, or sometimes I just tell myself the next 5! Yesterday in the AE was all about when your willpower is low and why willpower can't get you through. By the end of the day your porr brain has already had to deal with so many decisions and stress, it's just worn out and gives in. It was helpful to me to write down all the triggers that get to me and when my resistance muscle is the weakest. Hope you start to get some nice weather and can get the pool open soon. Carole A trip to Maine is on our bucket list. Will Ty be eligible to keep playing ball if he does 2 more years, does he want to play? It's crazy how are habits are so ingrained, we go out, we order a drink. Annie Grace talks about the way we say things, Not I'm not drinking or can't have a drink, but I'll have a Coke, or somehow turn it positive so you don't feel cheated. Does that make sense? I know as soon as I tell myself I can't have something, candy, A, ice cream, the cravings start like crazy. Hope you get to see some of Ty's games and that they win it all!! Cindy Is it drying out any by you? Have the roof folks ever come back? Any weekend plans? I'm guessing after this weekend, all the Mother's Day plants will be stocking the distressed shelves at the stores, I have my eye on some nice hanging baskets at the grocery that I'm sure will come down in price! WOnder what treats DS will bring home from work today!! GG Glad you didn't get the bad reaction, I wonder if the DH's reactions have anything to do with the drinking, I know they said if you got Covid and were a drinker it could be worse. Hopefully today everyone feels better. I ate the Custard, Mooey Gooey Swirl, chocolate/caramel in Vanilla, and enjoyed every minute, just know it can't be a habit!! Plus I always have to take a lactaid or it's not a pleasant experience after Since you celebrated Mother's Day last weekend will you be doing anything this Sunday? We will just have a low key day and look forward to seeing DS next weekend! Hi Cathy Hope you are having a good day. Is the weather getting more consistent? Time to run, find some breakfast and my Fitbit is saying get moving!! I'll check in later.

It was really nice yesterday, sunny, cooler, with a nice breeze. After we walked at the nature trail, I planted the juniper and hydrangea, moving some of the dirt to where there was erosion after the last rain. DH mowed the yard and I dug up crabgrass. Still have more to dig, but I ran out of energy to do it. Came inside at about 3pm, took a shower, changed into my jammies, and that was pretty much it for the day. There was no plan for dinner and no one wanted to cook anyhow, so we ordered Chinese food. It was yummy, but there went the blue dot.
There is a small wren-sized bird with a red head that perches in the crape myrtle outside my window and sings very sweetly. We are still getting hummers, but not quite as many. Today is also supposed to be lovely, with it only getting up into the 60's. We all have dentist appointments at 11. I don't anticipate getting much done today other than running the robot vacuum and maybe making a strawberry pie for dinner.
GG- Glad you did pretty well after your shot, hope DH feels better today. WTG planning your day so that you could enjoy the steak and bread and still get a blue dot.
Murphy- Glad you could check in.
Carole- Sorry about the beer and Alexis needing surgery. Yay for Ty finishing his junior year.
Jan- WTG AF105, blue dot, weeklies left, steps. Your garden junk treasures sound lovely, I am also hoping to scoop up some discounted Mother's Day plants. Hope you get some $$$ for your cameras and get your new car before the trip to TN. Sorry about your sister's fall from her horse.
Cindy- Thanks for getting us started.

CARING CHALLENGE: I will use ✔️ or ❔❔ or ❌ * Track on ITB ✔️ * Stay positive ✔️ * Work on increasing * activity - ✔️ * strength - ✔️ * flexibility - ✔️ Labor of Loving yourself first! April 5 - July 4 April 5 start weight: 168.2 April 12: 167.8 April 19: 166.6 April 26: 166.8 May2: 166.8 May 9: May 16: May 23: May 31: June 6: June 13: June 20: June 27 July 4: 166.6 again today
Nothing big to share. I have a review to write, have cooked most of the vegetables that needed to be cooked, have exercised and am settled in to write the review then read another book. I had the precursor to a migraine (aura) without the full blown headache so am thankful for that. I walked 40 minutes and did 2 sets of 10 reps each of four strengthening exercises...now to keep it up!
LIZ: I can hardly wait to go to the hairdresser again. I wonder if the guy I used to go to is even in business any more? I will keep trimming my own hair till I am at least two weeks post second vaccination, though!
JAN: It sounds like a big gathering...is everyone going to be camping out? I know you will make the right decision for you about the beer or no beer. you could always buy non alcoholic beer if you just want to have the flavor without having the alcohol OR perhaps a virgin cocktail.
AMY: Wow...34 years at the same hospital is amazing to me! I don't think I have even lived in one place for 34 years in a row...longest time in one place is here in Lebanon and it still astounds me we have now been back since 1994. I am glad that you are able to help your replacement and that she has a good life-work balance.
GG: I am enjoying Purple, too. I had overnight oatmeal with grated apple and carrot, ginger and cinnamon and some coconut and sesame seeds all mixed into nonfat yogurt. I also like having the grain and potato zero points. I can't find the variety of grains or whole wheat pasta so may not have those at all BUT it is nice to have whole grains and enjoy them without paying points for them. I won't have vaccination two until June, is my guess, just hope that they don't delay it longer than that. Hope you and your husband are back to normal after 24 hours post vaccination.
MURPHY: Contact Apple about your macbook. Is it still under warranty?
CAROL: Sorry Alexis needs surgery. Hope you manage to get away to Maine or some other fun place.

Will this choice lead to joy or regret? I just read this on Connect. Man, if I can just take the time to pause and think. It’s that Choice Point we’re talking about in zooms. Whether it’s A or food, we really can determine our destiny! It comes down to mindful choices!
Yes, DH & I are back to normal! Jan, I hadn’t heard about reactions with those drinking vs those not!
Jan: DS called yesterday and said he took Sunday off because of Mother’s Day. I laughed and said, oh that’s right. It’s Sunday! Church on Sunday and a relaxing day. Like most days for me!
Amy: I enjoy my male and female woodpeckers the best at my feeders!
Murphy: Sorry about your computer. Yay for being sober!
Carole: What happened that Lexie needs surgery?
Cathy: I used to get those auras. Some were so bad I couldn’t see! Mine were more hormonal. I don’t miss them!
I’m glad I recorded all those free movies! It’s supposed to be cold and wet all weekend!

Hi girls, just checking in. Pretty quiet day around here, DH has been reading, napping a bit. We just made tuna sandwiches for dinner and it will probably be an early to bed night for both of us. I did sell some of my cameras, kind of bitter sweet, 2 of them DH had given me as gifts over the years, I know they were getting old and if I waited much longer I wouldn't have gotten as much as I did. I got over $800 so I was able to order a new camera that I wanted online and still have some money left over to add to my car/cabin fund. Did an Aldi's run and got Finn's new ID tag. Supposed to maybe freeze again tonight, still debating heading to the cabin in the morning, will be cold but I just need to get in and out and then maybe see sis for a bit. OP and AF today but noticed a lot higher on sodium than I've been this week. See what that does to the scale, or I'll just wait and WI on SUnday!! Have a nice evening all. Jan Amy Sounds like you did a lot of work around the yard. Hope you rested a bit more today. Is DS over for dinner tonight or are you all getting together on Sunday? Murphy Were you able to take the computer anywhere? Hope it's up and running soon. GG Hope you're enjoying your movies, it's cold and damp here today too. I was under the covers reading a bit ago. Glad you both are back to normal, sure DH will be tomorrow too. Kept him AF today tho!! Didn't want to add to the headache. Cathy As far as we know everyone is camping but don't know how many actually have camping gear. We'll just enjoy the time with DS and hope for decent weather. Glad the headache didn't take hold. yay for getting in the exercise!! I need one more AP to make my weekly goal, may have to dance around a bit before bed!! Been watching the news, feeling confused by all the people speaking galimatias. ha ha I'll check in tomorrow, may be afternoon if I head up north.
