Welcome to our 2021 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post

NEW CHALLENGE
CARING April 5 - July 4
“Your body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care" - Buddha
This challenge is about caring about and for yourself. So often we get caught up in taking care of everyone else that we don’t give ourselves the care we need. Or we give up caring about ourselves. A variety of reasons and for no reason, it just happens. The hard part is to recognize it and once you do, it is hard to explain because very few want to acknowledge it. You get kudos for taking care of others, not so much for taking of yourself. Not caring about yourself can leave an emptiness that you may try to fill with food and alcohol. The emptiness remains, just stuffed down. We want and need more for ourselves. So let’s begin!
Treat yourself the way you’d treat someone you love.
Love yourself first and the rest will follow.
Focus on health and well being
So how do you begin to care about yourself?
Eating fruits and vegetables sounds like a plan. So does drinking water!!
Walking up a flight of stairs without gasping for breath. Your heart will thank you.
If you don’t want to be AF then restrict the amount and limit the days you will allow yourself a drink. But remember if 10 is not enough, one is too many.
Start with baby steps. Making too many changes at once can be discouraging so start small. Have you been slacking on flossing daily? Then start making it a ritual. Do you drink soda for energy? Start cutting back by one.
Treat yourself to something you enjoy. Buying the store brand face cream will sit on the counter. If you have a favorite, budget it in as a necessity….better than buying alcohol! Maybe getting a manicure or pedicure is important to you yet you deny it for yourself. Ask yourself why.
Make a list of indulgences that aren’t food or alcohol and start sprinkling them into your life.
Ask for what you need. Too many times we get into a funk and we don’t ask for help. You are loved and we want to help each other.
Curb all the justification. Sometimes you just have to do something because you want to do it. You don’t have to explain yourself!
Think of your successes….add three things that went well today to your daily journal. What?? you aren’t journaling? Journaling is caring!
LET THE CARING BEGIN!!

What did you do for yourself today? Motivational quote
HABIT ACCOUNTABILITY
We can be and will be accountable and supportive to each other. As always no judgement, just encouragement, and if needed, tough love though we are usually toughest on ourselves. Set your accountability goals and let's get to work. Let’s be healthier versions of ourselves come July 4.

YAY!!! I'm not sure what we did but I talked with a very nice gal at Apple and the computer is working again!! She wasn't even sure what we did to fix it. She had me try several different combos of pressing certain keys and one of them worked! What a relief. And I can highly recommend Apple Support! Now to get caught up with everything. Murphy

Yay for the weekend! Our dentist appointments were at 11, so we puttered around until then. We drove separate cars so I could get a haircut, which I love. A chin-length bob, looks so much better than having it down to my shoulders. I told DD to never let me let it get that long again. We went to the nature trail around 3:30, lots of shade at that time of day, a beautiful walk. We decided to go with the landscaper DH talked to and they got started late in the afternoon. They used a weed eater on Weed Hill, then used pesticide, spread a lot of topsoil, laid sod around the driveway. They are coming back later this morning with more topsoil and to spread the pine straw. It's looking so much better already. DS came over for dinner, DH grilled a pork roast. We had fun playing Winky Dink and watching a little TV.
Today is starting out cloudy, but is supposed to be nice, in the low 70's.
Murphy- Yay for your Mac working again!
Cathy- WTG tracking, staying positive, walking, increasing strength and flexibility. It seems like purple would be a good fit for you. Hope you had a nice chat with your daughter.
GG- The choice point of whether something will be bring you joy or regret makes so much sense. Actually making the right choice is the difficult part.
Jan- WTG AF106, blue dot, weeklies left, steps. Yay for the camera $$$. Safe travels up north.

Having a nice quiet day. Have laundry going. I got stuff loaded in the car for tomorrow. I'll go to my sister's for lunch and then back to church for Motel Ministry. I have the bags of groceries for Motel Ministry and I've got a box of makeup to take to my niece. Mostly eye shadows that I just don't wear anymore.
Jan.- hope you are having a good trip!
Amy - a haircut always makes me feel better.
There is a woman in our choir who is battling breast cancer. She shaved her head when her hair starting falling out and has been rocking some great hats since then. In her honor, all the women in the choir are wearing hats tomorrow!! I think it is going to be so great! She doesn't know about it and I know she will be floored. We also try to wear the same color but tomorrow we are wearing our Mom's favorite color for Mother's Day. Should be fun! Laundry is calling! Everyone enjoy the rest of your day. I probably won't have a chance to post in the morning but I'll check in tomorrow evening. Murphy

Hi girls. I got my hair cut this morning and then went to a craft/vendor show. I was proud of myself for leaving without buying any baked goods! I had to pick up a few groceries and got out of there without buying any cake. Can you tell what kind of mood I was in? But I made it!
Just checking in, enjoy your weekend!

Hi Everyone!
A friend of mine husband's has been diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal adenocarcinoma. She has been at my house in the evening while her daughter and grandkids visit her husband. She isn't dealing well with it but also the shock hasn't worn off yet. He has the chemo port in and starts the chemo on Monday. Tonight she is staying home with him. My DH had Barrett's Esophagus and had 10 cm of his esophagus treated/removed...killed the cancer cells. But from what my friend is telling me, it is going to take a lot of praying.
Made a costume for DS...he went to the Renaissance Faire.
Ainsley decided to eat some thread attached to a needle...thankfully the needle was somewhat hanging from her mouth as she tried to vomit...she wouldn't let me help her until I just grabbed her and finally was able to pull it out. I admit I was a bit panicky because I could see she was trying to swallow at the same time as trying to vomit.
Jan, congrats to DS! That is such a wonderful testament recognition to his abilities! Very happy for him. Yay for get $$$ for the cameras. Hope you had a good trip to the cabin and hope you were able to connect with your sister. How is she feeling? Glad that DH is feeling better and hope he is 100% tomorrow.
Cathy, hope you enjoyed talking with your daughter! happy mother's day to you!
Amy, your haircut sounds wonderful! Will you return to the hairdresser? Glad the landscaper is working out so well. Is DS staying over so he can celebrate with you in the AM?
Murphy, enjoy the lunch with your sister! What a wonderful idea to celebrate your friend in the choir with the hats. Have a wonderfuld day tomorrow. Check in when you can!
GG, it is really a good way to look at things as to whether it brings joy or regrets.
Hi Liz and Carole!
I think GG posted on FB about what scent reminds you of your Mom....I don't do much on FB but if I did post, my answer was Sardo...it was a bath oil. I don't know if it is still made.
Wishing everyone lovely memories of our Moms tomorrow!
Hugs, Cindy
