Welcome to our 2021 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post

NEW CHALLENGE
CARING April 5 - July 4
âYour body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care" - Buddha
This challenge is about caring about and for yourself. So often we get caught up in taking care of everyone else that we donât give ourselves the care we need. Or we give up caring about ourselves. A variety of reasons and for no reason, it just happens. The hard part is to recognize it and once you do, it is hard to explain because very few want to acknowledge it. You get kudos for taking care of others, not so much for taking of yourself. Not caring about yourself can leave an emptiness that you may try to fill with food and alcohol. The emptiness remains, just stuffed down. We want and need more for ourselves. So letâs begin!
Treat yourself the way youâd treat someone you love.
Love yourself first and the rest will follow.
Focus on health and well being
So how do you begin to care about yourself?
Eating fruits and vegetables sounds like a plan. So does drinking water!!
Walking up a flight of stairs without gasping for breath. Your heart will thank you.
If you donât want to be AF then restrict the amount and limit the days you will allow yourself a drink. But remember if 10 is not enough, one is too many.
Start with baby steps. Making too many changes at once can be discouraging so start small. Have you been slacking on flossing daily? Then start making it a ritual. Do you drink soda for energy? Start cutting back by one.
Treat yourself to something you enjoy. Buying the store brand face cream will sit on the counter. If you have a favorite, budget it in as a necessityâŚ.better than buying alcohol! Maybe getting a manicure or pedicure is important to you yet you deny it for yourself. Ask yourself why.
Make a list of indulgences that arenât food or alcohol and start sprinkling them into your life.
Ask for what you need. Too many times we get into a funk and we donât ask for help. You are loved and we want to help each other.
Curb all the justification. Sometimes you just have to do something because you want to do it. You donât have to explain yourself!
Think of your successesâŚ.add three things that went well today to your daily journal. What?? you arenât journaling? Journaling is caring!
LET THE CARING BEGIN!!

Happy Mother's Day! A bittersweet day for most of us without our moms.
DH, DS, DD, & I took the golf cart to the nature trail. It's getting quite wild and overgrown, but so beautiful. Afterwards we had scrambled eggs, bacon, English muffins and fresh fruit for breakfast. DS went home afterwards, I hit the couch and stayed there most of the afternoon. The landscapers didn't show up until around 4pm, but they finished the job. Money well spent, hopefully what they've done stands up to the next heavy downpour. We're supposed to get quite a bit of rain next week, but no deluges. It will be good for the sod. We have to hand water for now, since there is a problem with the sprinkler system. We have a call out, but they have yet to return DH's call.
No plans for today, I don't think DS is coming back. I will speak to eldest DS on the phone.
Murphy- Have a nice lunch with your sister. I'm sure your niece will enjoy the eye shadow. Hope the motel ministry goes well.
GG- Yay for your haircut and for resisting the baked goods at the craft fair and grocery.
Cindy- I'm sure DS looked splendid in his Ren Faire costume. So sorry about your friend's husband's diagnosis and Ainsley's encounter with the thread. I have to watch Bill like a hawk. I thought I was very clever putting a basket of small yarn balls (his favorite) on top of a tall pantry, but the bugger figured out how to get into it anyhow. I usually just walk into Supercuts, but I did like this girl. I should have gotten her card.
Cathy- WTG tracking, staying positive, working on strength, flexibility, activity. It's good that you have the insight that your body just wants to hang onto the weight when you are in the 160's. I had the same issue with the 150's when I got to goal many years ago. I haven't figured out the birds in our yard or on the nature trail yet, but would like to.

May2: 193.6 May 9: 193.3 May 16: May 23: May 31: June 6: June 13: June 20: June 27 July 4: Good morning ladies, Happy Mom's day, whether you have 2 legged or 4 legged Kids! Trip up north was good, cabin looks good, seems no critters have gotten in over the winter. Picked up the things I needed and then went over to visit with sis a bit. Her DH drove the car, they're excited to get it, now if mine will just show up! Was tired and sore from sitting when I got home and the wine called/yelled my name. A bit of self medicating, that I'm well aware of does nothing to help the aches, just numbs them long enough to get to sleep. BOT today, have to make up for a VERY high point day. I really didn't want to track, and surely not double track but I made myself be accountable and feel better for doing so. The nice Art museum in town is open today free for Mother's day so I'm heading over @9:30 with my new camera to check out all the beautiful flower gardens. Not even sure if I'll go inside, we'll see. Hoping to be early enough to miss some of the crowd if mom's are at church or brunch or somewhere. Couldn't believe my new camera was already here when I got home yesterday, they really did mean 2 day shipping! I just figured Monday. This morning I was imagining next Sunday trying to crawl out of a tent, guess if you're going to camp, can't hurt to go with 4 or 5 RN's to take care of us old people Have a great day all. Jan Cindy Hope you get a nice gentle rain and not a gully washer! Did DS have fun at the fair? Meet any fair lasses? Amy We need to water our grass seed too. Hope the rain doesn't disturb your new plants. Sounds like a nice morning with DD and DS walking the trail. Glad you like your haircut. Mine is the longest it's been in years, will be strange to see it shorter again. Yay for being happy with the landscapers work and them actually coming back and being done!! Is your word like "Mansplaining" ? ha ha Murphy Have fun at your sisters, love that you're wearing hats to support your friend. Glad your laptop is working!!! Going to get moving, will check in later.

Hi friends! Happy Motherâs Day,Ike Jan saidâto 4 or 2 legged âcreaturesâ! Weâre waiting until Tyler gets home to celebrate. His baseball team is doing well in the tournament-/heâs still not playing even though Joe made an error. I donât know why I canât just accept my own adviceâcanât control the situation, just your reaction. It was nice yesterday, I went to kickboxing and then cut the grass Itâs been drizzling today but it looks like the sun may peek out. I think Iâll go for a walk and then maybe jump rope or maybe not!
Amy, glad weed hill looks better!
Jan- what kind of cameras did you trade in? At what store? Iâd love a new camera! Enjoy yours!! Do you have an air mattress you can use when youâre camping?
Murphy, what kind of hat did you wear? Pictures?!
Liz, I bet Elyse is enjoying her day!
Gg, did you schedule your surgery?
Cindy, I bet DS looked awesome in his costume!

Hi all and Happy Mother's Day! I hope it has been wonderful for each of you and that you have been thoroughly spoiled! I'm finally home from my stuff and have my feet up and boy is it needed! LOL. Had a great church service and then I went to my sister's for a quick lunch. I wasn't able to stay long since I needed to get gas and run by the house to change clothes and then be back at the church by 3:00. I think we set a new record and made 533 meals! I was exhausted just from dishing up food! But it was a good time and I know the meals are needed so desperately. I scrambled an egg for supper and will be changing into my pj's shortly!
Please forgive my lack of personals today. Will catch up tomorrow. Here's a public service announcement for you. Go out and fill your car with gas tonight or in the morning. With the pipeline being "hacked" (how does that happen?), gas prices have jumped .10 in the last 2 days! That's just crazy! I wanted to fill the car up after I made the trip to my sister's so I should be good for a week or two. Not going to work daily does save on gas!!
Everyone have a good night and I'll talk tomorrow! Murphy

Hi girls. Lovely day, even if it did rain all day! Just makes me glad I was able to stay inside! Church was wonderful. Loved the music. We had pizza for dinner, so no blue dot. Not much going on this week. I will need to make my list to accomplish something!

Amy: Iâm glad the landscapers finished and you liked it!
Jan: Glad you had a good trip to the cabin. Sorry about the A. Yay for the new camera!

Murphy: Sounds like you had quite a day! Nice picture of you and your sister! I never watch the news anymore. Gas is going up?

Hi All,
For whatever reason I am having a bad flare today...DS made a nice breakfast casserole this morning. He went off to see a friend while I was snoozing and brought home a very nice plate of homemade tamales and other stuff I couldn't name other than tasty. My meds are making me loopy so am going to stop.
Love reading everyone's posts and hope to respond tomorrow.
Hugs, Cindy
