Welcome to our 2021 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post

NEW CHALLENGE
CARING April 5 - July 4
“Your body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care" - Buddha
This challenge is about caring about and for yourself. So often we get caught up in taking care of everyone else that we don’t give ourselves the care we need. Or we give up caring about ourselves. A variety of reasons and for no reason, it just happens. The hard part is to recognize it and once you do, it is hard to explain because very few want to acknowledge it. You get kudos for taking care of others, not so much for taking of yourself. Not caring about yourself can leave an emptiness that you may try to fill with food and alcohol. The emptiness remains, just stuffed down. We want and need more for ourselves. So let’s begin!
Treat yourself the way you’d treat someone you love.
Love yourself first and the rest will follow.
Focus on health and well being
So how do you begin to care about yourself?
Eating fruits and vegetables sounds like a plan. So does drinking water!!
Walking up a flight of stairs without gasping for breath. Your heart will thank you.
If you don’t want to be AF then restrict the amount and limit the days you will allow yourself a drink. But remember if 10 is not enough, one is too many.
Start with baby steps. Making too many changes at once can be discouraging so start small. Have you been slacking on flossing daily? Then start making it a ritual. Do you drink soda for energy? Start cutting back by one.
Treat yourself to something you enjoy. Buying the store brand face cream will sit on the counter. If you have a favorite, budget it in as a necessity….better than buying alcohol! Maybe getting a manicure or pedicure is important to you yet you deny it for yourself. Ask yourself why.
Make a list of indulgences that aren’t food or alcohol and start sprinkling them into your life.
Ask for what you need. Too many times we get into a funk and we don’t ask for help. You are loved and we want to help each other.
Curb all the justification. Sometimes you just have to do something because you want to do it. You don’t have to explain yourself!
Think of your successes….add three things that went well today to your daily journal. What?? you aren’t journaling? Journaling is caring!
LET THE CARING BEGIN!!

Good morning all! I slept in till almost 7:30 this morning! I woke up several times in the night but was always able to go back to sleep. I guess my body just needed the extra rest! I'm up having coffee now and have a quiche for 2 in the oven. Nothing big planned today. I do want to clean my floors good. I don't know if I've used something in the past on them that has turned gummy or what but since I walk around barefoot almost all the time, there are times when I look at the bottom of my feet and they are dirty! I don't feel anything on the floors but there is obviously something there. So I'm going to mop with vinegar water and then steam clean at least the kitchen and living room and see if that helps.
Will be back later! Murphy

May2: 193.6 May 9: 193.3 May 16: May 23: May 31: June 6: June 13: June 20: June 27 July 4: Good morning all. Beautiful sunny day and I'm going to take advantage of it. I bought some more perennials yesterday but it was just to cold and damp to get them in the ground. Even brought my veggie plants and petunia baskets in last night because of chance of frost. This afternoon everything is getting planted and then fingers crossed. Was on track yesterday until I started sampling all the granola I was making. Have two big bags to take with us. DS also said any and all treats would be welcome so I still have 2 banana breads, cookies and rice krispie treats to get made, probably tomorrow or Thursday so they'll stay fresh. Dh made yummy fish tacos for dinner and I just wanted to enjoy a beer with them, and I did. Ruins my points tho! Will try to get some back today and tomorrow with rollovers. We got our 3rd driveway estimate yesterday so now we can send in this next part of the loan app to the city. I am going to be proactive today and call the car dealer, it's been over 2 weeks, I have seen other dealers in the Milwaukee area that have the cars, maybe need to just go buy one somewhere else. I do agree with Cathy, it may feel more comfortable driving a car I know at this point. That's why I wanted the new one with a bit of lead time before our trip to get used to all the cameras, GPS, fancy things I don't have that could be annoying See what the day brings. Better start working on my to do list. Hope you all have a great day. Oh, Ivory Dust paint, yuck, not the color for the basement, glad we just bought a sample. Back to the paint store. It's always something. Jan Amy Sounds like a nice Mother's Day. Glad you won't have to go up and down weed hill too often, hope the plants take hold. Twinkies and strawberries, not a combo I'd thought of but sounds tasty. Hope you got your walk in before the rain. I've been walking around the big box stores lately as the lake flies have made their appearance, just annoying, don't bite or anything. Any of your veggies getting bigger? Murphy Did you get your new steam cleaner? I'm trying to wait til the day before we leave to vacuum, I can see the hair/dust bunnies growing under the furniture!! Hope you were able to rest with your feet up. My feet/legs have really been bothering me and it makes me angry to feel so "old" I think some is Planter Fasciitus, which needs rest to heal and that doesn't work well for me!! Liz Hope the sore throat didn't take hold. The christening pictures were so beautiful, love that she wore the same gown as your daughter and you. Cindy It's always all or nothing. You are done with the rain, California is already in drought mode and desperate for water. Hope the rain was soothing last night and not causing any damage. Cathy If you feel comfortable and know you're doing the right things, the rest will follow. I plan to continue to double track this week and then take a break while we're on our trip. Will be enough to do points on my phone with WW. yay for getting new use from a top you already had!! Sounds like the gas, food crisis is going to happen everywhere. Hope DH was able to stock up a bit. Will check in later. Happy Tuesday!!

OK - had my quiche for breakfast and the other half is in the fridge for breakfast tomorrow.
Cindy - hope the rain lets up. With gas prices going up, did you fill up the car?
Liz - I loved the Christening pictures! Isabel looked like a little doll! The gown was so beautiful.
Jan - when do you leave for your trip? I hope we can get together for a meal while you are here. Just FYI, gas prices here are about $2.76/gal. When do DS and his GF and friends arrive? You are welcome to give them my phone number if they need a contact in the area. Hope you are able to find a car before the trip and are able to get used to it!
Cathy - I understand about cooking what DH brings in. All of your dishes sound so delicious!
I made a pot of chicken noodle soup yesterday so that's what I'll have for lunch. I think I'm going to make a taco for supper because I have some guacamole in the fridge to use up. Now I'd better get busy with these floors! Everyone have a great day! Murphy

We went walking at the clubhouse to beat the rain. The pool is now open, so we badged ourselves in to make sure our cards still work and walked around the pools, which we had never done before. DH noticed he had a nail in his tire so went to the tire place when we got back. He called me an hour or so later to pick him up b/c apparently he needed 4 new tires and some suspension work. I don't like having to spend the money but I guess it will be good to have new tires for our trip. After I picked him up we went to Ace Hardware to get some pine straw and other odds and ends. After we got home I spent some time calling the medical records people for my rheumatologist trying to find out why they haven't sent my records to the long term care insurance people. After two calls, I still didn't get an answer, but the second woman said she would "expedite" the request, whatever that means. Apparently if the insurance people don't get the records by the 19th, we'll have to start the application process all over. DH is beyond furious and was not very polite when we had the people on the phone. When DH's car was ready, I dropped him off and went on to Walmart. Besides the things on my list, I bought some day lilies and a hanging geranium basket. The skies had cleared by the time I got home, but I didn't feel like working in the yard at that point. I made a shrimp chow mein for dinner, using some of the leftover rice from our Chinese take out. I realized when I was going to bed that I had not taken any of my pills yesterday. I was afraid if I took the Prednisone before bed that it would mess with my sleep, so I decided to wait and take it first thing this morning. I'm pretty achy, hopefully will feel better after the steroid and Tylenol kick in.
Today is supposed to be cloudy, DD has an appointment with her neurologist at 12. The next two days are supposed to be dry and cooler with highs in the 60's. Our landscaping in the back did well in the rain. We're probably going to have to lay some sod in the side yard area that used to flood and then got trampled by the concrete people. The sod may need to wait until after our trip. There have been stories in the local news about some stations not having gas. Hopefully the pipeline issue is resolved soon. I think a lot of people are panic buying.
Murphy- Your roasted squash sounds yummy. We do better if we make a menu for the week. Yay for sleeping in, enjoy your clean floors.
Cindy- Sorry about the thunderstorm and more rain.
Cathy- WTG tracking, staying positive, working on increasing strength, flexibility, activity. Yay for being able to wear your old top as a tunic. Sorry about the rationing. We do use the Twinkies as a kind of strawberry shortcake, although I am always tempted just to eat them, they go down so easily in just a few bites. I have to remember GG's joy/regret choice point.
Jan- WTG for the activity. Sorry you have a lot on your mind and did not sleep well and that Ivory Dust is not the right color for the basement. Have fun getting the plants in the ground and making treats for the trip. The vegetables are growing and doing well. We have two green tomatoes on our patio plant.

Hi girls. Guess I didn’t post yesterday. All is well. Yesterday I started watching old family videos again, getting them ready to be digitalized. I thought I was done, and went downstairs and found at least 10 more! Some are old football movies that DS had, so I don’t have to watch them all. It was fun watching some of them though! I know DS will enjoy watching them again and showing Jack. One was when DS interviewed His granddad about his experiences in WW 2. I’m sure it will mean a lot more to him now. Some aren’t marked at all, so it will be a surprise! Tomorrow is WI day and I still have 18 weeklies left! It’s been a good week, so I need to remember that tomorrow when I get on the scale!
Cindy: So much rain! It looks like it could rain here at any second! It’s been cold here. Doesn’t really matter to me since I don’t spend much time outside. I think it’s supposed to be nice on Monday though when Rylee comes!
Jan: DH bought garden plants yesterday. He was afraid they would be all gone by the time it gets nice enough to plant! I’m sorry your hip/feet are hurting! I read on Connect where someone was having a hip replacement and her excruciating pain. I told DH right now I can be comfortable on the couch, what if afterwards I couldn’t. He reassured me I needed it for all the things I can’t do. He reminded me how I can’t walk to the mailbox, how hard it is to go upstairs, how I can’t stand very long. How long will you be gone in your trip? I know you are so excited to get your hands on DS!!
Cathy: How awful to have gas rationed! It reminds me of some of the things my father-in-law was talking about in his interview about the war!
Murphy: When you mentioned going barefoot, I thought you must not have plantar fasciitis! I always have Clark’s flip flops on my feet in the house for support! Gas in PA is $3.10 a gallon and has been for awhile! Our governor likes to tax our gasoline!
Amy: Did you watch our show yet? I think one reason I don’t like Lucas was from earlier episodes. At the beginning of the series he was pretty sneaky and shifty. I still remember an episode where he received rifles in a shipment with the food! I don’t trust him! I’m so sorry your paperwork isn’t being done! How frustrating! It’s hard to believe you will be swimming soon! Will you use the pool?
Almost time for a zoom!

Well I mopped the floors with vinegar water and then steam cleaned them and I still have dirty feet!! I'm so frustrated! I swear I am not an unclean person! I am just going to give up and start wearing house shoes or sandals all the time!! GG - I've had plantar fasciitis before and I do remember how miserable it makes you! Fortunately I haven't dealt with that in 30 years. I remember putting off getting out of bed in the mornings because I knew the second that I put my feet on the floor there would be pain! I occasionally have aches and pains in my feet from the fibro and it would probably be better if I did wear shoes all the time!
I haven't been out today but I'm hearing mixed reports about gas. I don't think prices have gone up anymore (yet) but if it takes much longer for this to get resolved, I worry about trucks being able to deliver food to stores. I'm glad I have plenty of food stocked up. Maybe I'm worrying for nothing. Hope so. Murphy

Murphy: I have a friend that is traveling. She posted a picture on FB from Asheville. They were sitting at a gas station waiting for the tanker to empty so they could get gas. She showed a picture with cars lined up and down the road. Crazy!
