Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. 39 to start the day, with not a cloud in the sky. Should hit 57 for a high today.
Looks like tomorrow will be a good day for flying, Marsha. When will you be back?
Ok, I came on here yesterday, and wrote a long post, so I don't think I have any more to add. I think today I will focus on the birthday cake for the memorial, as yesterday, once I heard from Marsha that Kohl's has open fitting rooms, that was all I could think about, and was so happy that I almost impulse bought a Fitbit! Now I am glad I decided at the last minute, not to. It may be a good thing, but I think I would not do it justice. I did buy too many bras, but did not try any of them on, so once I got home, I did that, and decided there were 2 of them I did not want, so instead of taking them back, I texted DD2 to see if she would like them, which she does. Anyway, my mission this morning will be finding a bakery for the cake, and one that delivers. Then I will be on the hunt for invitations. So far, I have not find anything, much less a good amount of them, without paying a high price. WM was surprisingly bad for invites.
Have a wonderful day everyone.

Karen - I'm glad you had a good day at Kohl's yesterday! I noticed that the inventory levels are not what they were. DD wanted a purse and they had very little to choose from, and the clothing racks were not as close together as they used to be with empty spaces on the t-shirt shelves. Was the west side store like that also? We come back on the redeye Saturday night (actually our flight is 1am sunday morning). Try Monzu bakery. They did dd's cake and they did an outstanding job. It was creative and beautiful and tasty. She took our input and created a design that I'm sure she had never done before because it was full of Jewish imagery. Check her website. monzubakery.com/ I can't say enough good things about our experience with her! (and she will deliver the cake to your venue). Or if you want something less expensive and more run of the mill Costco has very good cake. They are the only bakery cake that I enjoy (besides Monzu). It wouldn't be creative but it would be good. As for invitations, check online. That is where we got ours. Robin - I offered dd the George Foreman and she said she'll take it when she moves but she doesn't want to bring another appliance into her current apartment and deal with her roommate's snarky comments. Time to leave that group behind! Thanks again for the idea. And it gets it out of my house! DD and I got our pedicures last night. It took a lot longer than I expected because they didn't have as many people working so they didn't do them simultaneously. I sat with my feet in the tub for most of dd's pedicure before someone finally came to start mine. But our toes look good and that's all that matters! This morning I did a load of laundry, cleaned up the kitchen (put the things from the drying rack away), and cut out 3 masks and started sewing one. I want to take another light colored one with to AZ and I also need a couple more black because I can never find mine. DD thinks I have too many but I don't like to rewear them day to day. I don't know how much we will need them in AZ - everyone I know is vaccinated - but I do know I am going to lunch with a friend so I will need one then, and my mother wants to go to dinner so I'll need one then, and we have 2 days of flying so I'll need those, and I want to have clean ones for work when I get home in case I don't get them washed.

Frost was predicted for overnight. There was frost on the neighbor's roof when I got up but the thermometer said 38º Guess I can't complain about these cool temps since a year ago yesterday we'd set a record low of 25º Sunny and nice for my walk. Even though it was cool it helps when it's not windy. It's 54º now but will be in the 60's later. I'll walk again with DH when I get home from my dentist appointment at noon. Just a routine six month cleaning and checkup. I was so tempted to put it off but decided to just go and get it over with. That's why I always make my next appointment before leaving the dentist office. Otherwise I'd just keep putting off making one later.
Karen, have you talked anymore with DD? How is she with her own appearance?
Marsha, I was going to wish you a good trip but I know it will be seeing your mother again after all this time.

Karen, I am sorry about the drams with your DD and DGDs. I can't imagine she hasn't noticed. Maybe this is a battle she doesn't want to fight now especially with all they have had happen. Could you tell them the memorial is a dress up affair? Could you offer to pay for something new? I have to say my DS is a terrible dresser. He wears clothes until they literally fall apart. Everything is wrinkled and doesn't fit well. He was definitely not brought up like that. Actually, I take it as an insult. It seems like he doesn't care what kind of impression he makes. We never had a problem with him showering though. I am sorry DD hung up on you.
DD has started going back to the gym. For a while she was walking around their neighborhood, but she fell and was really bruised up. I told her she could find workouts all over Youtube but she wasn't interested. I am glad she is going to the gym.
We are having thunderstorms again. It is only 55. Yesterday a couple of towns close by got a lot of hail. Their yards looked like they were covered in snow.

Marsha, have a safe trip and a fun time with DD and your mom - three generations!
Karen, cake shopping now! Cakes can be expensive but you certainly want to serve a good tasting one. I think I paid $52 for a birthday cake for DS2 Easter time. It was delicious and decorated nicely but way bigger than what I expected or needed. I wanted everyone to have a nice piece - and not just a sliver of cake. My Kohls store has all its dressing rooms open now too.
Gareth, if you don’t mind my asking, what do you pay for a cleaning? My office no longer uses a polisher and hand brushes the teeth. No reduction in cost though!
Carol, are YMCA’s popular there in Texas? Or is it private, small gyms that many people prefer? Here, the YMCA, which has everything to offer, including a pool, is very expensive to join. The smaller, private gyms offer almost everything (no pools, though) are more reasonable.
I’m reading The Tattooist of Auschwitz and find it very interesting. I feel terrible saying that “I enjoy” reading this kind of book, but I do because I learn so much and find them so incredibly interesting.

Getting ready to leave work and as you all know I rarely check in from home, plus my mother doesn't have a computer or wifi so it is unlikely I'll check back in until Monday. Take care everyone.
