Appreciate your food. Start your meal by taking a moment to express your gratitude for the food in front of you. I say a one-line blessing before eating anything.
Breathe. Before and during your meal, consciously take a few deep breaths. I don't know that I've ever consciously taken a breath before my meal. I have found myself breathing more deeply from time to time while eating.

Interesting ideas...I remember reading that some thank the animal or food or spirit or whatever before eating and that might be an idea to implement...used to do that when little before meals...sage a blessing...haven't for a LONG time. As for breathing...I wonder if it would help? Hmm...

I most always say a prayer that blesses the food before I eat. Most times a formal prayer, sometimes just a short line in my thoughts.
I have never thought about a deep breath before or during a meal. But now that I think about it, there are times I will take a deep breath when I'm close to being full. I never thought about the reason, but perhaps it helps me decide that I've had enough.

I am more likely to have thankful thoughts about food when grocery shopping - even with the changes or occasional shortages during the pandemic, there has always been food available. I have more than one large grocery store in reasonable distance and a vehicle to get there when I want to. At some points in my life, I've had a habit of saying thanks before meals, but I have not been doing so at each meal at this time. Haven't thought of deep breathing before meals. cherryt38, I don't remember which program (maybe core when I first started), but your comment reminded me that on that program we were supposed to listen for and be aware of "the sigh" because that would help indicate we were full. Thank you for mentioning that...I hadn't really remembered that.

WW used to suggest that you lay your fork down between bites. Still good idea today. Blessing the food before each meal is still a very sweet thing to do & we should always be thankful that we have plenty of food, when so many around the world don't.

jasimons, I watch for the sigh too, but the deep breath is separate from the sigh. If I do take a deep breath it can be either before or after I notice the sigh.
