Welcome to our 2021 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post

NEW CHALLENGE
CARING April 5 - July 4
“Your body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care" - Buddha
This challenge is about caring about and for yourself. So often we get caught up in taking care of everyone else that we don’t give ourselves the care we need. Or we give up caring about ourselves. A variety of reasons and for no reason, it just happens. The hard part is to recognize it and once you do, it is hard to explain because very few want to acknowledge it. You get kudos for taking care of others, not so much for taking of yourself. Not caring about yourself can leave an emptiness that you may try to fill with food and alcohol. The emptiness remains, just stuffed down. We want and need more for ourselves. So let’s begin!
Treat yourself the way you’d treat someone you love.
Love yourself first and the rest will follow.
Focus on health and well being
So how do you begin to care about yourself?
Eating fruits and vegetables sounds like a plan. So does drinking water!!
Walking up a flight of stairs without gasping for breath. Your heart will thank you.
If you don’t want to be AF then restrict the amount and limit the days you will allow yourself a drink. But remember if 10 is not enough, one is too many.
Start with baby steps. Making too many changes at once can be discouraging so start small. Have you been slacking on flossing daily? Then start making it a ritual. Do you drink soda for energy? Start cutting back by one.
Treat yourself to something you enjoy. Buying the store brand face cream will sit on the counter. If you have a favorite, budget it in as a necessity….better than buying alcohol! Maybe getting a manicure or pedicure is important to you yet you deny it for yourself. Ask yourself why.
Make a list of indulgences that aren’t food or alcohol and start sprinkling them into your life.
Ask for what you need. Too many times we get into a funk and we don’t ask for help. You are loved and we want to help each other.
Curb all the justification. Sometimes you just have to do something because you want to do it. You don’t have to explain yourself!
Think of your successes….add three things that went well today to your daily journal. What?? you aren’t journaling? Journaling is caring!
LET THE CARING BEGIN!!

Good morning all! I slept ok last night but I must have had bad dreams because I woke up feeling so sad! I go this morning to the church to help deliver pies to some of our senior citizen members. Before Covid, they had monthly luncheons but since then have just had deliveries of little gifts for the seniors. I always wanted to volunteer and I'm glad I can now. It's kind of funny though because "technically", I could have a pie delivered to me! LOL. I'm just going to have my coffee and watch a little tv and then get ready and go. I'll check back this afternoon. Everyone have a great day! Murphy

May2: 193.6 May 9: 193.3 May 16: May 23: May 31: June 6: June 13: June 20: June 27 July 4: Good morning all. Was having a pretty good day and then started grazing. Those points add up fast. Will work on that today and work on my mind set that "oh well, I'm already over"... I need to just look at today's points and work with those, not look at the negative ones. I did get my AP, steps, did about 1/2 of my gardening, mostly got the plants in the pots, now to get on the ground and get those in. Just feeling so stiff and achy these days, the OTC drugs don't seem to be doing much but I keep using them. Not sure how big a dose I can take at once, can you take 1000mg of tylenol at once? Just keep moving seems to help. Not sure what today's plan will be. Will get the banana breads made for sure. Hope you all have a good Wednesday. Jan Amy Hope they figure out your insurance mess so you don't have to start over. Glad DH got new tires for your trip and you found some more fun plants. Oops about the meds, hope yesterday was better and not so sore. Have you decided that you will go on from Indiana to Washington? How long do you think you would be gone? Hope your baby fruits survive all the critters and birds I need one of those big bandaids!! Murphy I was also thinking maybe your floors give off some color, are they laminant? Or wood? have fun delivering your pies, what I sweet (ha ha) gesture. Hope the sad feelings go away. I'll let you know about meeting up. Maybe Tuesday we could meet in Pigeon Forge or somewhere part way. Cindy GL on your errands, hope things start to dry out. How sweet of you feeding the bunnies Sounds like he was trying to get above the flood waters. From what I can see outside, no frost damage on the veggie plants or coleus. Hope the aches are better today and you find your inspiration. Cathy Sounds like a political nightmare over there and glad your kids are here and can still send help when needed. But then I think it's a political nightmare over here too, cult mentality and crazy laws being passed everywhere! Any plans to start up your ladies luncheons after more are vaccinated? GG Just hoping your hip replacement brings all those freedoms back. I'd love to just be able to walk again for as long as I wanted and only be sore from the actual exertion not just from moving my leg. I'm with DH, I've been buying plants because I think by the time we get back from Tennessee and the weather has warmed up, all the good things will be picked over. We had seen a Red Bud tree we liked but didn't get because we had the car and not the truck. By the time DH went back, it was gone. Hope your rainy days get over soon, yay for Rylee coming Monday!! Enjoy your videos!! A fun way to pass the rainy day. Time for breakfast, be back later.

DH & I went to the clubhouse to walk, then DD & I left for Marietta and her neurologist appointment. I called the medical records people again while waiting on the car. They're still saying it's "being processed", with no estimation of when it will be completed, and the request has been expedited, whatever that means. I told the guy I would call every day until it was done, he said I could call back later in the day yesterday to check. Hopefully something happens before the deadline, if I get another vague answer today, I will ask for a supervisor. On the way home, we stopped at the At Home store, looking for a free standing mirror for DD's room. They had some, but not what we had in mind. I stopped at 3 gas stations, all were out of gas. DH & I each are below half a tank, but don't have to go anywhere for the next few days, so hopefully we'll be ok. This reminds me of the days in Florida before and after a hurricane when there was a lot of panic buying. DS has a long commute, hopefully he's able to find gas.
DD & I also stopped at Publix to get her prescription filled and I stocked up on groceries so we won't need to go for a while. The new washer and dryer is supposed to come between 1 and 6pm today, I'm doing one last load this morning. It's supposed to rain most of the morning, then be cloudy and chilly this afternoon. Not sure when we'll get a walk in.
I doubt that we'll use the pool much, but I told DH we should go at least once.
GG- It's so nice that you have all those videos. I have a similar feeling about Lucas, that he's a man with secrets. I suppose they are a better match, with similar backgrounds, but I am just not feeling it. Hopefully this is the end of her moping about, trying to make a decision.
Murphy- Sorry you are still having issues with your floors. You know they are clean, so I would just where socks or slippers and forget about it. Hopefully the pie deliveries will cheer you up.
Jan- WTG AF108, steps, getting your camping gear organized. I've been taking 1000mg of Tylenol when I first get up in the morning and before bed, sometimes once in between if it's a bad day. According to the label, no more than 6 tabs (3000mg) should be taken per day. Sorry about the redbud tree. They keep replenishing the stock of bedding plants here.
Cindy- Hope it dries out today. Sorry about the munching bunny. When I see jejune, I think of jejunum, a section of the small bowel.
Cathy- WTG tracking, staying positive, working on increasing strength, flexibility, activity. Yay for the scale being down. I would find your rationing and money situation very stressful, you seem to handle it well.

Back home and I had lunch. It was fun doing the delivery of the pies. My friend Danielle rode with me so it was nice to have company. We only had to go to 4 homes. The pies are small - just 2 servings each but they also gave each of us one of the pies. Mine is peanut butter chocolate and oh my! I had a bite and it is amazing! I need to make my run to the bank but it is cold outside and I really just want to curl up under a blanket!! Where did spring go?
Jan - there must be something in the air causing grazing because that is how I was last night! Wanted a bite of this and a bite of that! The only night I'm busy is on Weds for choir practice. Any other time works for me!
Amy - it's so aggravating to have to stay on top of medical offices! I sure hope they do what they are supposed to! Hope you and DH are able to get your cars filled up. I decided to wait until after my errands tomorrow to top off my tank. I would only be able to put in a gallon or two if I did it today. I did pull out some socks to wear.
I changed the air filter in the ceiling. It had been a while and that was the only thing I could think of that I hadn't done yet. The floors are vinyl wood planks. Looks like hard wood but it's durable like vinyl. I have no idea if color could be coming off the floor but like you all said, I've done what I could. Not going to worry with it any more! Nothing big planned the rest of the day. I have choir rehearsal tonight but that's it. Hi and hugs to everyone else. Murphy

Down a pound! Note to self: It takes 2 weeks if not more to lose what I gain in a binge week. Keep going girl!! I’ve got a list of phone calls to make, have a zoom later, and I’m going to look to see if I have more tapes hiding. I know I still have to do DD’s gymnastics recitals. The end is in sight!
Cindy: I’m sorry you are sorry for your loss of motivation. I feel better about myself after giving myself some grace. Just like anything else, starting with a small goal daily helped!
Amy: I thought our word today would be spoken by a pirate. ARR.
Cathy: Yay for the scale moving! You raised your children in the States, didn’t you? My memory is so bad!
Jan: Redbud trees are so pretty! Until recently, I thought they were Dogwoods. Sorry you missed them!
Murphy: Sorry you woke up sad! I’m sure you felt better after being out with people! I LOVED the First5 devotion this morning. Especially some of the comments!

Note to self - when you are cold, engage in some physical activity to warm up! I had a couple of metal curtain things to hold the curtains back and had been putting off installing them. You know what I'm talking about? Instead of fabric tie backs, you install these decorative things to drape the curtains to the side? I bought them when I bought the new curtains for my living room window and took the blinds down. So I went ahead and installed them. They look nice and I'm warm now! May have a bite of pie to celebrate!
