Use all your senses to fully experience your food and drinks. Observe the smells, textures, sounds, colors and tastes. Ask yourself how much youβre enjoying the food and how appealing it is.
Choose modest portions to avoid overeating.
Comments? Are you aware of the smells, textures, colors, and tastes when you eat? Are you mindful of the size of the portions you take?

I remember not too terribly long ago another post about being aware of senses when eating. That's when I started paying attention. I can't say I do engage all my senses each and every time I eat, but I do way more frequently than before I read about it the last time. I observe the smells and as far as textures go, I run my tongue along the roof of my mouth to get the full texture feeling. Colors don't matter anywhere as much to me as to some people, but taste sure does.
I weigh and measure almost everything I eat. Sometimes I will eyeball for size, but after I eyeball, if I then weigh, I find I've been ridiculously close, so I trust my eyeball measurement too.

I continue to work to slow down when I eat - remembering to pay attention to the different qualities of the foods (scent, texture, etc) helps with that.
Portions - yes. When I prep ahead, I weigh or measure as I put things in containers for fridge or freezer. I feel comfortable with my ability to eye-ball most things. If I'm eating something often that's a high calorie/high point item (nut butters, for example), I'll check the portion every once in awhile, just to be sure I'm not slowly expanding it.

Are you aware of the smells, textures, colors, and tastes when you eat? Sometimes. Mostly I'm aware of smells when I'm cooking something. I'm definitely aware of the taste when I'm eating. Sometimes the texture, like whether it is crunchy, or creamy, or in some cases hard to chew. Are you mindful of the size of the portions you take? I am. I have weighed and measured enough so I can pretty much eyeball servings, but sometimes I'll measure something out to see whether I've developed portion creep or not. Now much of the time I'll double up on most veggies and cut back on meats.

I love walking into a produce market or the produce section of the grocery store when it is well stocked. I love looking at the different colors & textures of the produce, all lined up in pretty piles. I enjoy the smell of food when I am cooking.
I have trouble with portion sizes. Since I hate to weigh & measure my food, the purple plan is best for me. Now that beef & pork are so high in points, I am very careful of the portion that I take of them. Usually only 2 or 3 oz.

I am also pretty good with portions. I just have to watch that I don't have a second helping when putting the leftover food away. Sometimes I put the leftovers in the fridge right away. Much less likely to get into them that way.
