WELCOME TO REGULAR & NEW POSTERS! This thread is full of encouragement & suggestions. New people, welcome! We encourage you to jump in. One day, one hour, one minute at a time is easier to handle than a week, etc. Lurkers, join in
Our goal is 21 days Binge Free (studies show 21 days to break old habits & start new ones!). Whether we make 21 or one, the point is to learn as we go, replace binges with other things to help us through stressful times. Some days are harder than others & we may slip; that's OK. The Binge Monster is in the shadows waiting to pounce. Hopefully this thread provides inspiration, courage, & support to become a Binge Survivor!
You may see different folks on different "Cycles." A Cycle is a 21 day block of consecutive binge-free days. Stay with us for as many cycles as you'd like.
Everyone's definition of a BINGE is different. The Oxford Dictionary defines a binge as a spree of eating and drinking. To many of us, BINGE is defined as "eating without dignity." The dictionary defines "dignity" as a calm and serious manner or style, showing suitable formality or indicating that one deserves respect. Only you can define what a binge is for you. Going over points, as long as it was done with dignity and journaled (thereforeacknowledged and "owned") isn't binging--it is up to you to decide.
SPECIAL THANKS TO LESLIE5609 for starting this challenge on the Out of Control Board, in August '02, and thanks to all who keep it going.

Way, way off plan yesterday. Long story involving a dinner out with DH’s cousin that never happened and all the snacking while I was waiting. Ah well. I’m going nut-free this week. Cashews are way to easy to overeat.
Nancy, Hunter Biden’s book became available and I’ve heard it’s good. I’ll start that on my run today.
Kathy, how wonderful that most of your county is vaccinated! I’m waiting until fall to get mine; I still have antibodies (I realize they don’t protect against variants). I hear Ohio’s numbers last night for the first time in a week or 2. I was astounded at how low the numbers are! It seems miraculous to me.
Meg, definitely ditch the daily weighing. I stopped weighing regularly over 10 years ago. While my weight wasn’t always ideal during that time, it was much better for my mental health.
Lori, enjoy the christening!

C59. D2. Exercise + yoga. I quit tracking after a blow up with DS which led to lemon bars. Acknowledging stress/emotional eating.
Nancy- wow on 78 days K-closed. I need to start that- at least a 12 hour fast, ideally 14. And nice HS avg. The CSA share is a purchased share of the farm's produce. We've never done that before - so much work! I'm doing it this year in lieu of a garden... Which makes me kinda sad, but just can't this year.
Jan- Ugh on the off plan day. They happen and you are excellent at getting back on track. I think it is a good idea to depend on your antibodies and hold off on the vaccine. Besides, there is talk of boosters now :-( I was sick for 3 days with the vaccine. Not surprised, as I had had a severe case of COVID.
Meg- Hope you resisted the urge to bake :-) My progress on the piano has come to a halt. I don't practice daily and I'm crazy busy too. Are you busy with grandkids?
Lori- you're a great role model on staying on plan in making room for foods like pizza and cheesecake. Do you go back to work tomorrow? I'm glad it is Sunday 🙂.
Hope everyone has a great day.
Kathy

It felt so good yesterday to eat healthy and no restaurant food, 1200 calorie day. Today will be a challenge since it’s early in the day and will be surrounded by food for hours. My goal is to stay in control and no sweets (triggers) until later tonight.
Nancy, K-closed and stats are Awesome!! I realized I had to find a way to fit in days consisting of foods DH likes. This past year, Switching to calorie counting, listening to Healther’s podcast has truly taught me how to fit in everything!! And to my surprise, it’s working!!!
Jan, It’s crazy how healthy foods can be the culprit....It’s an eye opener to see calories on a menu. I was showing DH how a healthy salad with the toppings and dressing can be the same or more calories than a burger and fries....
Meg, I like how you listed the positive things that are working!!! I agree, if weighing doesn’t work for you, don’t. It’s all about what works for you at this point!! It can change down the road.(at one point, I had DH hide the scale and I just focused on habits)..there are other ways to tell if things are working....how do you feel?, how are your clothes fitting? Etc....
Kathy, Regarding work, I’m still going into the office 1 day a week. Starting June 1st, we go back 3 days a week, 2 days work from home. Starting August 9th, return full time in office. I’m so very grateful we are gradually getting back to full-time in office.

Nancy, I forgot to mention, cake batter and pistachio ice cream :-)
Kathy, I know people with antibodies who’ve gotten very sick from the vaccine, and I remembered that you were too. I’m wondering how they’ll do the booster, if I can get it without getting the first shot(s). I’m sure that’s yet to be determined. For the record, I’ve seldom missed a flu shot and I’m a firm believer in vaccinations. And if you’re going to stop tracking, lemon bars were a good choice yum.
Lori, after a lot of restaurant food, doesn’t home cooked food taste so good? And it’s always so nice to know exactly what’s in it.

Day 95.
Jan: Yes - I stopped buying the big jar of cashews at Aldi.
Kathy: Lemon bars after a blowup with son seems actually pretty reasonable to me, but then I'm an emotional eater, too. ;-) I DID resist the urge to bake, but still managed to eat off-plan. My busy-ness comes from work, grandkids (piano and other stuff), church responsibilities, online meetings (for work & church & fun - 2 "book clubs"), and managing the home/yard/cooking and all that homemaker stuff. DH is really slowing down so I've had to take up more slack. BUT I know I'm nowhere near as busy as people who work full-time and STILL have all the home responsibilities!
Nancy: I commend you for the K-closed streak! This is not an issue with me usually, but I can see how it could be a BIG game-changer.
Peaceful Sunday.

Jan - I put Beautiful Things on my book list. Thanks. I bought a bag of peanuts in the shell. I divided the whole bag into individual sandwich bags, each amounting to 85 calories and 3 points. Each bag has 11 shells. Because it takes some time to open the shells, it serves as a nice little treat.
Kathy - My fast tends to be about 12 or 13 hours. I'm sorry to hear you're holding off on the piano and hope you get back to it before long. I'm trying to increase my practice time to an hour each day but that will include my review pieces which I've been working on without measuring the time.
Lori - I'm surprised you're still working in the office only one day a week and that you're looking forward to full time. For some reason I thought you were dreading it. I must have you confused with my friend who is a librarian.
Meg - You certainly have a full schedule. When do you even have time to eat <g>. The reason k-closed is such a game changer is that's when I used to binge. My days aren't the problem. It's always been late at night - one thing after another after another after another. The other bingy time is when I'm out of my environment for an extended time. Last time was when Michael and Hudson were here for several days. That time I even started binging a few days before their arrival.
