Sorry about yesterday. Some of my friends were without for three days - guess we were lucky it was less! I loved reading the posts!
Nothing much new here. Talked to our daughter last night and hope to talk to our son and his family tonight. Need to get some groceries tomorrow as we are running low on dairy, bread and produce since hubby's garden is not producing a lot yet.
BEVERLY: Training accidents and illness in the military is hard to read about. I am glad your husband was ultimately okay! How many years did he serve? That is too funny about the one man sleeping bag, thigh high cast and...a baby Your new carpet sounds lovely!
CHERRY: It sounds like work to trim around the rocks and trees! How crazy it must have been to see those boats scurrying to good fishing spots! How big is the lake?
LYNN: I am glad your husband managed with two broken legs. It must not have been easy to uproot yourselves and move in with his mother BUT glad it was an option!

Good morning. Lake Sakakawea is a lake formed by the Garrison Dam on the Missouri River in North Dakota. The dam mainly was made for flood control and hydroelectric power. I live near the upper end of it, probably about 30 miles from where the river starts turning into a lake. The lake is 178 miles long, and where I live it is approximately 2.5 miles across. There is good information about it on Wickipedia which also has some history about it. A lot of people who lived near the river were forced out of their homes, including the Indians living on the Fort Berthold Reservation. My dad was able to negotiate for 14 acres of our land that normally would have been taken/owned by the Corps of Engineers. Most of our farmland was not in the sections that were taken by the Corps. The 14 acres was where we built our new house and farm buildings.
Yesterday I completed the garden spot where I'm planting potatoes. I'll plant them today. Also I hope to get more done with the rest of the spot where I'll be planting corn, squash, and maybe some tomatoes. I got most of the grass dug out that came up in that spot and I'll need to add some more garden soil and compost to the area. I'll do what I can today and have my "slave" son help me with the rest tomorrow. He can wrestle the large bags of soil around instead of me.
It is going to be really warm the next few days. A couple of those days will be a bit windy, but with temps up in the 80s it will help it feel a little cooler. It doesn't usually get that warm at this time of year, the 70s are more common.
Have a nice day, beaches.

Happy Sunday friends,
A bit cloudy today, maybe a shower. It is supposed to really heat up by the end of this week. I probably will be complaining about the heat & humidity until November!
Not much planned for today, we may go pay SIL & BIL a little visit this afternoon. I want to take her one of my parsley plants that came up on its own in my little garden bed. I will put it in a pot, so that she can keep it on her back porch. The ones that I started from seed, are still too small to transplant, but I will have tons of basil & parsley once they get big enough. I will also pick spinach & broccoli to take to them. We have already picked the spinach twice & it is growing by leaps & bounds.
It amazes me how many lakes, cities, counties, rivers etc. all across this country that are named for or by Native Americans. Their presence is still felt everywhere! We live near a place called Indian Mound, it is a huge burial ground, the bodies were actually buried in mounds. They look like small hills. I think that different tribes disposed of their dead in different ways.
Have a great day all.

Hello all!
We went to the city and took care of the banking and the visit to my DD apartment. Everyone loved it. She got her new lease. Since she is in a rent stabilized apartment, the rent guidelines board in NYC decides how much of an increase she will get in rent. They decided 0% for a one year lease and 1% for a two year lease....She is lucky...we told her to take the 2 year lease as next year they may raise it to a higher percentage.
We are doing chores around the house this morning and getting our hedges cut.
BTW, we were in Greenwich Village(where I grew up) to go to the bank. In the park across the street from the bank, there were hundreds of people sitting in there enjoying the sun. At least 95% had masks on as well as people walking in the street. In my DD building, you have to still wear a mask in the hallway and only two people are allowed in the elevator at a time.
Have a great day, my friends!
