Welcome to our 2021 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post

NEW CHALLENGE
CARING April 5 - July 4
“Your body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care" - Buddha
This challenge is about caring about and for yourself. So often we get caught up in taking care of everyone else that we don’t give ourselves the care we need. Or we give up caring about ourselves. A variety of reasons and for no reason, it just happens. The hard part is to recognize it and once you do, it is hard to explain because very few want to acknowledge it. You get kudos for taking care of others, not so much for taking of yourself. Not caring about yourself can leave an emptiness that you may try to fill with food and alcohol. The emptiness remains, just stuffed down. We want and need more for ourselves. So let’s begin!
Treat yourself the way you’d treat someone you love.
Love yourself first and the rest will follow.
Focus on health and well being
So how do you begin to care about yourself?
Eating fruits and vegetables sounds like a plan. So does drinking water!!
Walking up a flight of stairs without gasping for breath. Your heart will thank you.
If you don’t want to be AF then restrict the amount and limit the days you will allow yourself a drink. But remember if 10 is not enough, one is too many.
Start with baby steps. Making too many changes at once can be discouraging so start small. Have you been slacking on flossing daily? Then start making it a ritual. Do you drink soda for energy? Start cutting back by one.
Treat yourself to something you enjoy. Buying the store brand face cream will sit on the counter. If you have a favorite, budget it in as a necessity….better than buying alcohol! Maybe getting a manicure or pedicure is important to you yet you deny it for yourself. Ask yourself why.
Make a list of indulgences that aren’t food or alcohol and start sprinkling them into your life.
Ask for what you need. Too many times we get into a funk and we don’t ask for help. You are loved and we want to help each other.
Curb all the justification. Sometimes you just have to do something because you want to do it. You don’t have to explain yourself!
Think of your successes….add three things that went well today to your daily journal. What?? you aren’t journaling? Journaling is caring!
LET THE CARING BEGIN!!

Another beautiful day yesterday, an 11/11, according the weatherman on channel 11. DH, DS, & I walked the nature trail, then had sausage patties, eggs, pancakes. I planted the lilies and petunias in the front, no easy task since the clay soil is clumpy and there are a lot of rocks. Also filled the bird feeders. Then I took some time to enjoy the peace and quiet on the lower porch.
It looks like another beautiful day today. I'm pretty sore today but there are a few more things I would like to get done in the yard. We'll see. It might turn into a couch day.
Liz- Sorry you are still under the weather, hope the antibiotic helps. Yay for progress on your current baby blanket.
Murphy- Yay for an unplugged day.
GG- Yay for booking your trip to Myrtle Beach. Sounds like the Walmart dresses will be comfortable. Congrats to Jackson's team and for his homer!
Cathy- WTG tracking, staying positive, working on increasing strength, flexibility, activity. Sorry your internet is out. GL if you go shopping today.
Cindy- Hope you are doing okay. Hugs!

Hello friends! We’re on our way to Nebraska. Jeff opened the pool yesterday, we got his garden planted and I planted some flowers. I need more dirt. I went to Costco to get some but they were already out of it.
Amy, I love how you can go to a lower porch!
Gg, go Jackson!
Liz, that’s a lot of blankets to make! I hope you’re feeling better.
Murphy, when I get my screen time report, I am seriously perplexed how I can spend so much time per day on this thing!
Jan, thinking of you! Can’t wait to see your pictures!
Cathy, I hope your internet is back.
Cindy, how are you doing?
Have a great day!

Hi Everyone!
DS came home on Thursday not feeling well and stayed home on Friday. He said his throat felt like he swallowed razor blades. I think he came out of his room sometimes Saturday but by then I was feeling lousy. I went to bed at 6:30 pm and woke up at 9 am today to another rain storm. It has rained off and on all day. Dreams were all over the place and I can't say the sleep was restful.
On Friday I was in the garage and when I came back in I saw I had a notice on my phone that someone had been at the door. Food had been delivered....no note as to who from though I could see it was delivered by an Uber driver. I brought it inside figuring someone would show up at my door asking if I had their food. When DS got up he said his (girl)friend had sent soup, OJ, tea and honey. Okay, whatever. On Saturday she told him she would be by at noon to bring more soup. Of course he slept through that. He woke up at about 11:30 AM and saw the text. She was already outside sitting in her car. Today they are out and he is meeting her little girl. I have no clue whether this is someone that may stick around or what. I don't care enough to care if that makes sense. I just want more sleep. I'm sure I will get more info eventually.
Amy, it really sounds like you have found your forever home! I love the idea of the lower porch. I hope your soreness improved and that you had a wonderful day. Clay soil is the worse in IMHO. Enjoy the lilies and petunias. I have yet to put in the plants...it is just so wet in the yard. Suppose to rain all week!
Carole, safe travels! Glad your pool is open and garden planted. Costco doesn't seem to be bringing in as much as they use to at least here.
Murphy, enjoy being unplugged!
GG, dresses sounds like a wonderful solution to the summer and for comfort after the surgery! Did you see that Cheez-It is making a cake. Cheez-it flour, Cheez-it frosting, Cheez-it shortbread....there is caramel swirled through it to add sweetness.
Jan, looking forward to hearing about your adventures.
Cathy, hope the internet is back and a huge WOOT! for the scale moving. You are putting in the work and getting the rewards!
Liz, are you feeling better? Hope so! That is a lot of baby blankets...guess the pandemic was population growing.
Hope everyone is doing well. I cleaned the litter boxes...yes spoiled Ainsley has two. Sent Gypsy off to clean the rugs. And basically vegged. I did make a mix that is suppose to go on hot dogs...it is a recipe called Michigan hot dogs. It is basically burger with seasoning so in someways a chili dog. What I realized is that my cider vinegar was best if used by in 2011. My garlic powder best if used by 2016 and chili powder, 2012. I used what I needed (they smelled okay) and then dumped them. I need to make a trip to Sprouts and buy smaller amounts of replacement spices. My cooking is more limited and I just don't go through stuff like once upon a time.
Well the rain is coming down hard, Ainsley is sleeping on the coffee table and the dryer just stopped so time to fold clothes.
Hope everyone had a wonderful day! hugs, Cindy
