Hello Everyone Ginny - I'm glad you received your quilt back from MSQC and that you are happy with it. I bet you can't wait to finish the binding so you can give it to your DD. That quilt picture you posted of a quilt you want to make is beautiful and very scrappy. I hope you get to make it. Ruth - What projects are you working on? I'm glad your weather has been a bit warmer. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are getting some crafting done. The weather has been nice here but later this week it's supposed to get very hot - I'm not looking forward to that I need to finish putting together the Scrappy Mystery table topper and then I'm not sure what I might work on. There are several patterns I'd like to try, but I'm just not sure what color fabrics to use. Take care everyone!

I have to figure out some kind of instructions for that quilt-but hope to figure that out somehow. Totally agree with you CJ- the weather is going to become very summer like very soon. No fun for those of us who dislike that weather. Love what you said, make something that you want to work on. Have you ever investigated quilting software? It makes it super easy to change the color scheme of a quilt pattern with the click of a mouse. Hope I can import pictures from my friends quilting software which dramatically shows how big an impact just changing one color can make on a quilt.

Hello everyone and here it is another new week already. I've been doing some things around the house today. Defrosting freezers and cleaning bathroom, etc. I got a nice email from a friend I don't hear from often and was really happy to get this email. Now I'm ready to sit and crochet. I would love to get this pocket shawl done today but that probably won't happen untl tomorrow. IN the meantime I'll keep working on this one until I am tired of crocheting for the day. Then I think I'll make a list of the triangle scarves I want to make for Christmas. I did find a good pattern for a spiderman plushie to go with the blankets I'm going to make for the little boys for their birthdays which aren't until, luckily, the end of Oct and end of Nov.I also want to make a new Baby Yoda for my son for his bday which is also at the end of Nov.I'll be busy with not only that but also preparing for the trip we might make in the fall...depending on pandemic, vaccines, riots, and gas prices.. (thank you Joe Biden for causing those to rise to probably historic hishs ) I've noticed on the links that CJ shares with us that when they show a particular block made by many people, even that block and be made to look extremely beautiful or just plain or even not very nice looking at all depending on color and placement. CJ really has a talent for making them look great but I can see where quilting software could really help.

Hello everyone. It's spring which I love because everything is coming to life.
I didn't work on the shawl much on Sunday because it was hat day and I spent an inordinate amount of time looking for a pattern for a waffle stitch hat pattern that has a ribbed brim and is made from the bottom up. I don't know why except that I had some Red Heart super saver in the color denim that I wanted to use up and waffle stitch uses a lot of yarn. People complain about RHSS and if they've used this one I can see why. It's very hard and scratchy. I'm going to try methods of softening it that are recommended on the crochet groups. I made it especially to do that to see if those things work. Then when it's nice and soft (I hope) I will add it to the bags of donated hats.
I did finish the pocket shawl last night except for edging and I now have it pinned together so I can do that edging. Later I'll start on another and have those out of the way and ready to go to their new owners.
I do have some work around the house and yard to attend to before I do that though.
Have a great day and I'll see you all later

Yes, Ruth RHSS is not the most soft yarn and can be a bit scratchy. But it makes up for its somewhat rough texture by being available in so many different colors. I had no idea there were ways to soften it a bit- are they temporary or do they last through washings? Totally understand the process you had to go through to find a waffle stitch hat pattern. (Think I will have the same issue when I try to find directions for that quilts). Sounds like you were able to find a waffle stitch hat pattern? Let us know how you made out with those softening methods and how happy you are with the results.
Babysat today- kids were pretty good. It was warm today but not quite as bad as I thought it would be, I was able to get the kids out a lot and it was not too hot. Looking forward to a day in which I do not have to do much and can focus on stuff here.
Got a little bit of crocheting in today during naps....

Hello Ruth - Hope you were able to get your work done around the house and yard today. Ginny - I'm glad the babysitting went well. I don't think I'd enjoy using quilting software and it's not worth the money for me. Fortunately there are so many pictures of quilts on the internet, it's easy to see color combinations. I finished piecing the blocks for the Scrappy Mystery quilt I'd been participating in for a few months and found that I made a mistake over the last few "clues". I don't want to rip apart my blocks, so I'm just leaving it as it is. I only made the table topper size so it's just a 24x24 piece. I may take a break from making anything since I've been disappointed in the last several things I've worked on. And now that it's going to get hot I won't be able to work much in my upstairs sewing room. I do have a hand quilting project that I've had basted and ready to work on, so maybe I'll work on that. Hope you are all well and are able to do some crafting

I haven't done it yet, Ginny, but people on the crochet groups mention soaking in vinegar water and some say hair conditioner. And of all the RHSS this denim color is the worst I've seen and I've used a lot of RHSS. What are you crocheting during the naps? I, too, hope you get a day for yourself where you can do the things you want to do and need to do
Youngest dgd emailed me today with pictures of three things she wondered if I would make for her.I know you can guess what I said. The thing that has me frustrated today is that just yesterday I saw a cute sweater I thought she might like and I thought I bookmarked it. when she sent me the one picture she asked if I could make her a shirt or a sweater or "one of these" which is on the order of a poncho but not really one...I don't know what it's called exactly but she sent pictures not the pattern site so I had to look up similar ones. I'll make her a cute wrap I found today and that poncho like thing which I can make without a pattern and she also wanted a matching tote bag and water bottle holder.
These grands and greatgrands are keeping me busy.

CJ, I guess we were typing at the same time. I'm sorry to hear you're disappointed in the table runner mystery project. I think you're right to take a little break. Still I bet it looks beautiful to those of us that don't know there might be a mistake somewhere. You do a great job on these quilts.

Good morning!!
CJ- not sure how you access internet and what is available for your computer/phone- but there is a free program called Blockfab (I used to have it on my old IPad) that was pretty cool and permitted the changes in color scheme for the pre loaded quilt patterns. I remember having a lot of fun with it, making changes to the quilts in the software. Of course that might not work for you and you might not be interested. While snooping and looking for blockfab’s name, I found a quilting app that allows you to take a picture of your fabrics and put them into the quilt design digitally. Pretty cool. You have a good eye for fabric and combinations, so I doubt that would help you. I am just making conversation. Think its a good idea for you to take a breather from quilting, only because you sound frustrated with yourself. You do beautiful work and have made so many lovely quilt tops. there is no such thing as a perfect quilt or a perfect quilter, and if you like what you are doing it does not matter one bit if you did not interpret the mystery quilt instructions the way they were supposed to be. Its ok....enjoy that topper!!!!

Intentionally stopped posting and submitted as I have been running in and out moving the sprinkler. My grass seed is slowly coming up and we have not had a bunch of rain recently.
Anyway, CJ- sounds like you have a good action plan, working on the hand quilting project and taking a break.
Ruth - how very sweet that your DGD is placing orders for projects made by you! (Obviously she loves your hand made items). Hope that these efforts to make the denim colored yarn softer are successful. Ya gotta smile posting that your grands and great grands are keeping you busy!!!! I love it.
Today is a bit of a down day for me, gonna get some errands done in the afternoon and work on my presentation for my license. Think it will just be nice to spend a day pretty much home.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXggafOP230A friend sent me this link- its to make a disappearing hourglass quilt....and I love Jenny Doan’s commentary regarding how she made this quilt and it evolved from a mistake. Its a gorgeous quilt and a perfect example of how directions can be misinterpreted, and how those mistakes can work in our favor. I love this quilt and it does remind me of a much simpler version (sort of) of the quilt I want to make. Check out the video!!!

Good evening. I got some crocheting in while dh was still asleep then after he got up and woke himself up and his headache got a little better he decided that we should go grocery shopping so we did that. Came home and put everything away and back to crocheting. Shopping tires me out so it's a good excuse to just sit and crochet
I'm glad, Ginny, that you had a day in which you could do the necessary things and also relax some. I looked at that link you posted. I always wondered how to get those little parts on the block. Now I know...cut the hourglass block into strips....very interesting.
It's hot today and the rest of the week...in 80's. You two would hate it.
I looked for the patterns for the items that dgd wants. ONe was a paid pattern and, while I spoil the dgc I'm not going to pay $5 for a pattern for a market bag and matching water bottle holder. Sid didn't even cost that much and he's a much harder and intricate pattern. So I'm just going to use a free pattern that looks just like that one anyway. I can't believe the prices some people charge for patterns of simple things that also have a lot of free patterns available for them.
