Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. 67 to start the day, humid again, with high of 87. Tomorrow the temp will crash and rain will come also.
Pinky, is your weather going to switch, tomorrow? Our high then is supposed to be 68! Compared to yesterday and today, it will seem chilly!!!! The kids and I had such a good time at the wildlife sanctuary. I took a few videos, then last night tried to upload them, and it took forever, so I gave up. That place is so beautiful, and relaxing, but having kids there, it is go, go, go. Thanks for the advice, about the scammers, I think I got rid of the latest one, he has been quiet now, for a whole day, hahaha!!! Any fun plans for the weekend?
Carol, oh, you have a twin up here in Wisconsin!!! And my sister too!!! That was sad, to have to learn to control ourselves, on WW, in order to loose weight, we had to break our addiction to bread, lol!!! One of the bakeries in town make incredible breads, all different flavors, and interesting herb breads also. Needless to say, I stay away from that bakery. About sewing, I was shocked when DD told me she bought a sewing machine. She was one of those that could hardly sew a button! But she amazed me, when she brought it over and shortened my drapes! I would not have been able to do that. I am with the rest of the group, for HS grad presents; money or gift cards are the best for the student, in my opinion.
Gareth, is your weekend weather going to be as weird as ours is predicted to be? Hot and humid today, then cold and rainy tomorrow. I have no plans for the weekend, so that is fine with me. I can't believe we were at the Sanctuary, what with it so humid, yesterday. But I did manage to get 2 miles walking in. Needless to say, I slept like a log, last night! You are right, it will be casual, so thank you for the tip about capris; what with it being summer, that makes sense! I think I will start shopping soon for the outfit.
Marsha, sounds like your weekend turned busy, with all the traveling and such. Glad your DD is doing better.
Anngie, I don't think palazzo pants would be very flattering on me, with me being more of a stout person. Ok, I have to look stupid, and ask, what is the difference between cropped and capri's? And about the kids, I think I wore them out, but they wore me out too, lol. That humidity yesterday was not fun, but at least there was woods all around us, to get in the shade. Over in the deer area was really nicer too, and of course DGD loved that, as she had a doe eating out of her hand. You mentioned rhubarb bread, have you ever made rhubarb dump cake? I haven't made it in years, but it is a very good cake, DH loved it. Otherwise I am not a fan of rhubarb. Another bread lover, huh? Lol, we are all coming out of the woods, aren't we?
Robin, I think I did not make myself clear about my Instagram account. I am NOT looking to date!!!! I was trying to figure out how all these romance scammers are all of a sudden swamping me with friend requests. I have been having fun with a couple of these guys, this past week. After reading an article in AARP about these scammers, some of these guys are hitting all the red flags, but this one guy is just hanging on and on. He is defying the typical romance scammer, so he has me concerned that he is more smarter than those other idiots, trying to get a widow's money. So I will have to keep my eye on him. But otherwise, please understand, I do not want anything to do with dating sites. Heaven help me!!! LOL!!! I truly am enjoying living alone. Not sure if I should admit that, but it is true. I miss DH like crazy, on a daily basis, but otherwise, I like my life right now. The kids and I had a good time saying things like: Oh Grandpa would say this, or Grandpa would do this, but it is all said and done in a way that yes, we are missing him, but nobody is sad or depressed. I am so happy that Kohl's has their fitting rooms open now, so that will help, looking for clothes for the memorial. And they have such a big women's clothing dept!!!! Otherwise, if I can not find something there, there are a few more upscale boutiques around the area that Kohl's is at. Sorry for you all being short handed right now at work, but at least you are happy the other para is gone. There are some summers that we do not have tons of bugs. Depends on a snowy winter, and rainy spring. We were in woods yesterday, and with the humidity, I expected mosquitos, but we did not see a one. Yay! So yes, Wisconsin can be very buggy, lol.
The invitations were delivered late yesterday!!! I love, love, love them!!! I wish I could show them to you all on here!!! DD did an excellent job, setting up the wording and all. I had it all goofed up, when she came to the rescue. But that is what she loves about her job, when she has one! She is dedicated now to looking for one.
I think I slept like the dead last night! Guess it pays to be outdoors and walking for over 2 hours! Today I just have laundry to do, and I have to make Grandpa's bed, since DGS slept in it; I had told him he did not have to make it, that I would do it later, so today is the later.
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen, we aren't really short handed at work. I think we need another lawyer, DH thinks that the para can get things set up. I can do more Medicaid, so he has to tell DS that he should not spend his time on the clerical work involved in that, and should just speak about the rules to the client, decide if it will all work for them. I got my cousin's wife on Medicaid, even though they had money in the bank and he had a trust that said he had to be paid a certain amount per month. We did make a deal that he had to pay something, then an amount, which is quite affordable with that trust, towards her care, but the government picks up the rest. She has alzheimers and a lot of other issues healthwise, and he really can't handle her at home. She is a large woman, and has balance issues.
Anngie, cropped pants are a little above the ankle, capris are a little below the knee. I like capris better, but DH doesn't like either. I do wear some that are more like ankle pants than cropped, so they hit the ankle and you can see the whole foot.
I have to get running. DH went out for something early, so the dog started making noise, around 7. I got up and walked him, then went back to sleep and didn't get up until around 9. Made myself a delicious avocado toast with 1 fried egg sandwich on Dave's Killer Bread. more points than my normal breakfast, but I am meeting friends so we can go see this house that our friend built back in the 50's that is very well known apparently, and they are opening right now as a museum for a few months.

I confess----I love bread too!!!! Any kind is my favorite--LOL!!!!
Overcast today---Supposed to get to 80 degrees and humid too. Chance of severe weather tonight.
Carol---DGS is doing well-----thanks for asking. He had a follow up to see what his platelet count was on Wednesday and it was a little above the normal count should be. The doctor was not concerned and said it has to balance out now and there will be a recheck in a couple of weeks. His bruising that he had, especially in the lower back area, is pretty much all gone. What a scare he gave us ---so glad it turned out well.
Karen---sounds like you had a great time with the kids. Yes our weather is going to be cooler next week also but I think the weatherman said it would be Tuesday before we saw the cooler temps.
Anngie---I love both cropped pants and capri's----probably depends on how hot it is to say which is my favorite.
Robin---I love avocado toast with an egg on it. Yummy!!! Sounds like you have a fun day planned.
Gareth---How is DDIL getting along?
I am so excited----we are taking off in a little bit and going down to Sioux Falls. We are meeting friends tonight for dinner and we have hotel reservations to spend the night----it has been a long time since we could do this because of Covid and I am ready for a get a way ----even if it is only for the night.

I really don't like how cropped pants look on me so I don't wear them at all. I have a few pair of capris that I wear in the summer when I'm going out somewhere if I don't want to wear shorts.
Wow, Karen, you are going to be warmer than here. We are supposed to get up to 75 and of course, rain.
I think I will gift cards as graduation gifts. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
DH has decided to retire in December. He was thinking about August, but the summer is his really busy time because that is when all the budget for the next school year is done.

66Âş already early morning when I walked before working zoom. After zoom I walked again with DH. Just finally had breakfast and relaxing a little now.
Another bread lover here too! I like good bread though not the Wonder bread type. I love a good multi grain bread. My Hungarian g-ma made the very best bread. I've never have had bread as good as hers. Was it that good or just how I remember it? I just remember how good it was warm out of the oven. No one was allowed the heels. Those were g-pas.
I prefer cropped pants over capris. What I do often is instead of getting capris in petites is get them in regular so they're a little longer more like a cropped pant then on me.
Robin, my DH is the same as yours that he doesn't like capris or cropped pants. I'd thought of wearing them for our family pictures but DH didn't like that idea.
Karen, nope our weather isn't going to be like yours tomorrow. In the 80's again like today. I never understand all the new followers I get from unknown men on my Instagram account since I never use it to ever post anything on it. I certainly would never engage in any way with them. Glad your time with DGC went well. You'll feel much better now about having them again overnight.
Pinky, have a fun getaway! Thanks for asking. DDIL is doing good. DS said she's in pain but staying ahead of it with her pain meds and isn't miserable. Her first PT yesterday went really well.

Pinky, have fun, I just want to go away somewhere also! Not sure if you remember but we lost power for 5 or 6 days during the summer and we stayed at hotels, it was like a vacation for me!
Carol, glad we could help you decide. I do not want my DH retiring, he would sit and watch TV all the time, or make a mess of things in the house.
Gareth, I think some of the followers you end up with a crazy nuts. I stopped using Twitter when I was getting followers with names I could not pronounce.
I will say, I love to have bread and rolls also, especially if they are flavored at all. We just had a debate on a Facebook restaurant group, that I confess I started, that was about whether restaurants that give you bread when you eat there should give you bread with your take-out. It seems that only Italian restaurants do that. The other day when DS forgot to ask for the chicken on my salad, they gave me a piece of bread that was delicious. I will confess I ate the whole thing, and tracked it.
I had a great time today. Got to where I had to meet my friends a few minutes early so had a chance to run into CVS and grab some meclazine. I get car sick in the back seat of a car, and knew this would help, but forgot to grab some at home. We were there early, but that was fine, our friends were also. The house was great to see, and the company that ran the whole thing brought in glass and pottery sculptures from interesting artists. He is really an amazing guy. Too bad his first wife only wanted to live in it for 4 years, it was too far out in the country for her back in the 1950's. It is still not very densely populated. We then went for a very nice lunch. It was 90 degrees surprisingly, but I did not feel hot. We ate out on the sidewalk, but it was shaded. Traffic coming home but no big deal. My friend was happy I was there. His wife hates to talk about traffic, but me being the driver that I am, was chattering to him the whole time about traffic, which he apparently likes to do. We were trying to figure out where everyone was going at that time of day. I think because of COVID when you get a nice day like today, people just want to go anywhere, and will drive to have a walk in a park and dinner out.

Good Sunday morning. Strange weather day here today, as the morning is starting off where it left off last night; muggy and warm, it is 66 already, but what the weather guy is calling a back door cold front is coming from the north, just a county away, with north winds, which will lower the temp, and bring in rain, the afternoon high should be in the 50's.
Robin, you got me thinking with your talk of your cousin's wife being on Medicaid. I am wondering if I should check into getting on that. Even though I do not have any current health issues, you never know. I really do not know what benefits are out there for me now, (if any) that that 2nd check is gone. I was the one saying I did not know the difference between cropped and capri pants. Thank you, after you explained it, then I could picture them. The cropped is the one I do not look good in, with being short. Going through that house must have been so much fun!! That is something I like doing. Maybe by next year we can start doing ALL of the things we miss doing.
Pinky, lol, this thread has turned into the bread addiction confessional. HAHAHA!!! I wonder what it is that bread has this hold over, it seems everyone?! I am SO, SO happy for you, to be getting away for a night!!!! Did the hotel have a pool? I love, when staying at hotels, getting some swimming in. Great exercise!
Carol, I am right there with you, on how cropped pants look on us. I think more taller women can pull it off, but not so much us short people. Yes, the temp, I think I heard, got up to 87 yesterday. I stayed in the whole day, did not stick my nose out once. I loved not having to go anywhere for once. We are to get rain today, sometime, and I think it is still needed. I love giving gift cards, although sometimes I feel guilty about it, as it seems that it is the easy way out, but you know it will be used well. Congratulations on your DH deciding to retire. How do you feel about it?
Gareth, did it get real warm and humid by you yesterday? I had my air on all day and in the bedroom all night. It is still muggy, but that is to change. I hope you are able to get outdoors to walk. Since I had my walk on the trail last week, I have not been able to get over there. I have been walking indoors, but I would love to get back to the trail. I have not eaten white bread, since I can't remember. I will not waste my calories on that bread. I too love a good multi grain bread. DH, way back in the day, ate the heels, but as he grew older, did not care for them. Now that you mention it, I have bought a couple pair of pants lately, that are a length I like; they are not cropped, or capri, but a tad shorter than the regular cut of pants. I think of them as more tapered. I really like them. The issue I have with all those men requesting me to be friends, is some of them then, while waiting for me to confirm or delete them, send me messages in IG. I am thinking of getting rid of IG, which is sad, as I really like it. I have it set up a lot like FB. I wish I could describe how IG seems to me, maybe more cozier, or like the heading, instant? FB seems more big business.
Did not do too much yesterday, just did a lot of indoor walking. Then by late afternoon I ended up with a huge headache. It may have just been tension. Today will be another day staying in, with no place to have to run to, that will be tomorrow. I am going to wash my sheets today, exciting right? Lol.
Have a nice Sunday everyone.

Karen, no need to get rid of IG. Just delete and never respond to any unwanted friend requests or messages. Personally I much prefer FB over IG. Funny you say that about cropped pants not looking good on you because you're short. I'm only a little over 5'2" and like the look better but then maybe they don't look good on me. Actually I think they look good on women even shorter than me that I've seen wearing them. Guess it's just a matter of personal taste.
Robin, here our restaurants give you bread with takeout. You get the same as if eating in if bread comes with the meal. Strange how different areas of the country restaurants do things differently.
Another humid day here in the 80's. So far it hasn't bothered either one of us. We haven't even thought of turning AC on yet. We're both pretty cold blooded. DH is even worse than me. He's still wearing long sleeves on our walks. Short sleeves for me. When we do run AC it's set at 78Âş Anything lower and we're cold. I always need a sweater eating out or shopping in AC.

Karen, I obviously don't know your finances, but I doubt very much Medicaid is for you at this point. We recommend Medicaid either when people need help in the home because they really can't manage their activities of daily living, or if they need nursing home care. Nursing homes are very costly, as are assisted living. In NY, we have 2 types of Medicaid, Community and Institutional. Some assisted living facilities have some Medicaid beds. I don't know specifically how things work in Wisconsin, it does vary by state. As people age, if they think there is a possibility that one of both of a couple may need to be in a nursing home, people do advanced planning. You might want to do that if you ended up with a lot of money left to you by DB. That, down the road, could allow you to still leave money for your DD's. The thing is, I am guessing that they would figure something out unless you ended up with something like Alzheimer's, where it is not safe to leave you in a house on your own. My cousin's wife had that and balance issues. When they had a physical therapist in the house working with her, one time she fell and took the therapist down with her.
We are having very hot weather today, up to around 90, but overnight it is supposed to drop to 60. We always have our AC on, although right now it is not really running, it is definitely warmer outside than it is in the house. Today will be a cleaning/laundry/food shopping day. I will fit in reading at some point, and will cook dinner because I want to make the veal chops I ended up putting into the freezer in vacuum seal bags. I can sous vide them and they will be perfect.

Well, we had the happiest 45th wedding anniversary ever yesterday! DS2 stopped over with a card - and then asked - “what do you think about Karly becoming part of the family”!!! We jumped for joy as we love her already. No one else, except her brother, even knows yet. We told him he better talk to her father next! lol Her ring has been ordered and she’ll have it in a couple of weeks. (Remember I said once I was going to drive him to the jewel store myself - well, he found the way himself!).
Much of the time I wear capris but have started buying cropped. The reason is I’ve realized that if you have “wide/heavy” calves (which I do) capris accentuate that. If the legs on cropped pants are not baggy, I think they make a person looking slimmer and taller. IMHO!
Pinky, I’m so glad DGS is OK! I was thinking about him! I hope you’re having a fun getaway!
Carol, I worried a little when DH retired. He’s a person that can’t sit still for any length of time. I didn’t know how he was going to keep busy day after day, but he has managed to keep busy, most of the time.
Robin, have you ever visited Lyndhurst Mansion? I believe it’s in Tarrytown. I just saw a piece on TV about it.
Karen, I’m so glad the invitations came out just as you wanted them to! Sounds like you had a great time with the kids! This makes me think of DD1 girls. I wonder if you could have some “me” time with them? Maybe they would benefit by getting away and having your undivided attention. Just a thought.
Gareth, my guess is your DGM’s bread WAS as good as you remember it! Glad to hear DDIL is on the mend.
Now I’m going to make rhubarb bread - just what I need. But, why let it go to waste!

Anngie, congratulations, that is so exciting, and I am sure you will be part of the planning and the "event" that they all make now out of the proposal. Have you met her parents? I am sure you have talked about it, but I don't remember. I have not been to Lyndhurst Castle, and it looks very interesting, but it seems they are not doing outdoor tours right now. I will have to remember and watch to see if it opens. There are a lot of mansions like that where I live. Old Westbury Gardens, which is about 3 miles from me, is supposedly one of the top rated in the world, according to someone who saw it on some list. A lot of the mansions around here are used as catering venues. I have also been to Newport and seen a bunch of those. But, I always like to see others. Going up only to see the gardens wouldn't be worth it. Although, I would love to go to see 2 that are in the Philadelphia area, Winterthur and Longwood Gardens. Winterthur is actually in Delaware, but close. The problem, this is not my DH's thing at all. I have gone to the Bronx Botanical Gardens a number of times, when they have had special exhibits. The one I would really like to go to is the Christmas one they do, but never have.

Anngie, congratulations on your anniversary and that is very exciting about your DS, too.
Robin, your time with your friends sounded fun.
We went to our neighbor's memorial service yesterday. It was very nice. The minister knew her so it was more personal than some we've been to. Sometimes we wonder if the minister had even met the deceased. There weren't a whole lot of people there, but the chapel was small so it looked okay.
I don't know what DH will do after he retires. He used to golf and fish some, but hasn't done either in several years. I know it will be an adjustment for both of us.
It is in the 70s and cloudy today. I think that is what I have been saying for the last couple of weeks. We have a little rain early this morning. Strange that New York is so much warmer than here.
