Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. 55 right now, with rain. High of 78. Gareth, yes you are right, about IG, and just deleting those people. I even had a woman request, and thought; why would you? She does not know me, what interest would it be to her to have me as a friend? The problem I seem to have with cropped and capri pants, is they do seem baggy, so that makes them look worse on me. Oh, I wish I could be like you, and not have the air on!! I was so happy not to have it on yesterday, with it being cooler than Saturday. It was nice to have that cool weather, but I don't want it to stay. Robin, I was afraid, with my finances, that I would not qualify for Medicaid, just thinking that it might be easier to get, what with 1 income. I have heard in the past how people would hide their savings and such, to get the different programs to pay for things like, from what I remember, nursing care, things like that. But that was many years ago. In fact, now that I think back, when my DB and I took my DF to his lawyer, after my DM passed, the lawyer told him to give each of his children up to $10,000 a year, to knock some of his funds down, in case he needed to go into a nursing home. Needless to say, he did not do that, as he was a product of the Great Generation, which lived through the Great Depression, so he kept his money. Did you get all your chores done yesterday/ Anngie, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!! And CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Lol, you got just what you were hoping for!!! Glad to hear he found his way to the jewelry store!! You said no one else but her DB knows, but does she know? About the invitations, I was worried about ordering them over the net, to a place I had never heard of before, so when I saw them, I was SO relieved!!! I had even paid extra for 2 day shipping, so we could get to work on them right away, what with June almost here. It wouldn't be so bad, except we are heading into summer, and this summer is going to be so much more busier than last summer. Rhubarb bread....not sure if I ever heard of that, but since I am not a big rhubarb eater, that is probably why. Carol, about the minister knowing who he is preaching over, I miss those days, and that is why I was so disappointed, when DH had passed that the Chaplain I wanted to use for DH service, was in the hospital, with Covid, as he knew DH, not real well, but knew him. So the Pastor I had to use stuck to a small funeral service, scaled back but more traditional than if the Chaplain would have done the service. When DH retired, it took me 1 year to go find a job, hahaha. Seriously, I bet you two will be fine, with your DH retirement. As for the weather being flip flopped, by Thursday we will only have 60 for a high again, for a couple days. These swings in the temp's have been very strange. Strange Amazon story: Saturday I ordered some over the counter pills from Amazon. Amazon said they would be delivered today. Fine. Then I got a notice they would be delivered yesterday, by 10pm. Ok, fine. I had walked by the patio door yesterday around noon, and saw an Amazon van driving around the complex. For some reason delivery people just can not figure out the numbering of our buildings; one delivery from Amazon a year ago, I did not even receive, so they had to resend it. So anyway, this van was driving around the buildings in front of ours, and eventually left. I then, somewhat later that the delivery was running late, and there was a chance it would not be delivered till Monday. That was the last I heard from Amazon. So in other words, I am getting it (hopefully!!!) on the normal delivery day. ***** I see now, the notice they set late last night said it may not come till tomorrow!!!! Really? Have a nice day everyone.

Saturday the bday party for ds’ dfil was nice. They had a nice crowd, It was hot though and the party was outside. We stayed a couple of hours and left. I’m sure the party went late into the night. Dfil and dmil stayed overnight and based on a post dmil made so did the sisters. (no I’m not the least bit bitter that we have never had an invitation to stay the night…..not even when I said we are coming down to Milwaukee to see the van gogh exhibit would they like to come with and we will be staying overnight….in a hotel……..) Anyway, good thing we didn’t stay long. DD had a test yesterday and she was preparing for it all morning before we left and all evening after we got back and again most of Sunday before she finally took the test. Yesterday was a busy day – a bit of weeding early, I made banana bread, did 4 loads of laundry including stripping my bed, helped dd study. I was exhausted by bedtime.
Robin – when I worked as a paralegal I went to school for a certification post undergrad. Do they still do that? In my program you picked an area of study and got a good overview of law in that area plus you had to take a legal writing class. I concentrated on corporate law.
Karen – Yesterday I stepped outside when I poured my coffee and it was warm out so I decided to do some weeding, came in, finished my coffee, put some clothes on and in that amount of time it had turned much cooler. I could still wear shorts but it wasn’t warm. I only weeded for about 45 minutes and after I came in and showered I had to switch to long pants because it had cooled down so much.
I’ve been baking challah so dd would have bread to eat pbj sandwiches, which seem to be one of the things she can eat without pain. I’ll stop after she leaves because I prefer a bagel thin and dh likes rolls from Costco.
Robin – how do I find a good lawyer for will writing? Is there a network or registry to go through that reviews or ranks them?
Anngie – congrats on ds’ engagement!
I'm thinking of taking this afternoon off. DD is planning to go back to madison tomorrow morning and we want to do some menu planning and put a grocery list together for her, plus I promised to bake her cookies to take with. She said she will put them in the freezer so she won't be looking at them. She will be alone in the apartment this week and she wants to get her life in order with structured days and meals, etc. I expect she will be calling home a lot out of loneliness. She is still dealing with some intermittent pain in her stomach so we are still trying to figure out what the triggers are. If it's too bad she can always come back home but I know she wants to be back in Madison so she can work and ride.

It's already in the 70's. 80's later. Still so nice even with the humidity just having windows and the deck door open. Such a nice breeze coming through. It was drizzling when I got up but had cleared up when I went to WM. Today was the first for me being out in public without a mask. I was comfortable not wearing a mask at WM since going early there's never many people. Seemed strange though after all this time of wearing a mask to be without it.
I'm listening to and really enjoying Not My Mother. I love it when a book grabs me right away.
Karen, I don't like baggy pants either. I don't like long, baggy tops either.
Anngie, Happy Anniversary! What an anniversary gift too to finally be getting the DDIL you've wanted!

Karen, we don't really tell people to give their money away like that, they still want to be able to use it for their needs. We might tell people to give it away if they are above the threshold to pay estate tax, but seeing as that is now $11 million or so per person, my thought is you, and your DF, didn't have to be worried about that. Maybe at that time it was only $1.5 million, but still. We sometimes recommend that if that don't have millions, but maybe like $300,000, or even less, to put it in a trust that, if they don't use it, it will pass to their children if they end up in a nursing home. Otherwise, they can easily rack up over $100,000 a year in costs to be in a nursing home, closer to $200,000 if they live in NY. If someone has millions, they can pay for their own nursing home or in home care.
Marsha, what we sometimes do if someone wants a recommendation is to look on the site for the National Academy of Elderlaw Attorneys, because most elderlaw attorneys also do trusts and estates. I did find 2 in Green Bay who are both CELA's, or Certified Elderlaw Attorneys. These are lawyers who have passed a pretty rigorous exam to be certified. There are a lot who fail. They practice together, the firm is Geimer and Orcutt. Robert H. Geimer and Mary Rose Orcutt. You can call them. We don't charge for consultations, but I can say that is the case with others. I know that Wisconsin always had a very active state chapter of NAELA, one of the reasons we had a board retreat in the Dells. DS said that he knows attorneys in Wisconsin, but not in Green Bay. My son Scott is a new member of their Board of Directors.
Gareth, I think some of the looser tops are fashionable right now, and I am happy not to have to tuck things in because I am finding these Lands End pull on slacks to be very comfortable. I even got a pair of jeans that I like. I think they can use shortening, but OK as is. Maybe I should see if they have capris. Sometimes I like capris, but DH does not. As far as mask wearing goes by us, in the stores, people are still for the most part wearing masks. I saw one guy in the supermarket without, but obviously wouldn't say anything to him.
This morning I spent close to an hour on the phone with someone from the CDC. I am trying to convince them to give me a CDC vaccine card. I realized that when the football season starts, I don't want to have a problem because I don't have a CDC vaccine card. And, if we go away over the summer, have a problem. Not sure if I told you about the trip I worked up, but DH has to decide if that's what he wants to do, and wants to go when I thought we could. It would be the week of his 70's birthday. I thought about all kinds of places within close driving distance. He is not a beach kind of guy, and wouldn't be able to do hiking, nor would I probably for that matter, so we are limited. I decided on Cleveland and Pittsburgh. The weekend before his birthday the Cleveland Indians have a home game on Sunday, and the weekend after his birthday the Mets will be in Pittsburgh. At first he said "intriguing", then he said we should find someplace to go with the kids, but the idea of finding an Airbnb at the last minute is just not happening unless we want to spend $10,000. I mentioned it to our younger DS just now, and he said they would meet us in Pittsburgh, so maybe that's an option. I will check with my older DS. I know they wouldn't go to a night game with Maddie, but maybe DDIL would stay in the hotel with her, and the DS's could go. If DH just wanted to go with them, fine, but if my other DDIL wanted to go, we would go. She is a Mets fan too.

The minister who read the obit at my mom's funeral mispronounced her sister's last name and one of her brother's first name. It really bothered me because it was like he hadn't read it before the service so he could ask about pronunciations. The worst thing I remember like this was at wedding. Whenever the minister talked about the couple he used their first and last names, not John and Mary, but John Jones and Mary Smith. The thing was he didn't pronounce the bride's last name correctly. The young man sitting next to me counted how many times he said it wrong and it was 12 times. Our DS was a minister for a while right after college and I told him to make sure to get names right.
I'm not sure how it will be when DH retires. I think he will surprised at things I do like deep cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms and decluttering. One couple we are friends with retired at the same time and both got part-time jobs. My dad already had a side business and continued it. My mom never had an outside job but she sewed, quilted and cooked a lot. FIL played golf almost every day and liked to garden. MIL was active in their church and also volunteered at the hospital. It was only after they started having health problems there was conflict. They weren't used to being home together all day.
Rain and more rain this week. It is so humid. It is too cool for the AC so I have the ceiling fans going.
Oh and at the funeral, masks were required and every other pew was roped off. We kept our masks on the whole service. Fewer and fewer people are wearing them at our church. I have noticed people ask if it okay to hug now.

Karen, if you have an extra pair of black or white slacks that you like the fit of, you could have them shortened to capri or cropped length. Just an idea. Yes, she does know because they’ve shopped for rings. She doesn’t know that DH & I & her brother know. Her DB was a college roommate of DS. I guess she (they) want to get the parents together and make the announcement. That was a strange Amazon story! Did you get the order today?
Robin, you’ll shake your head at this question but I’ll ask anyway - wouldn’t most lawyers be good at drafting a will? I realize maybe not one that specializes - accidents, DWI, etc. I’m thinking that if someone has various assets then they would/should have a financial person taking care of this and then that information would be taken to the lawyer writing the will to someday be dispersed.
Marsha, will DD have meds for her stomach to take back? Sorry about this new disappointment. OK, so, in your post today to Karen, it sounds like you were weeding and had your coffee with no clothes on!!!?? lol
Gareth, it does seem so different to not have a mask on, doesn’t it. I’d say it’s 60-40 in the stores that I’ve gone to - 60 still wearing. I understand, people are just so very afraid.
Carol, I agree, in whatever the situation time should be taken to pronounce names correctly. It’s just being considerate.
