Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Back to the warm weather for a day or 2, with chance of storms later today.
Marsha, I love that turn of a sentence, about the hotel and family!!! 4 loads of laundry! I remember those good old days!! Now, unless I do a small load of laundry every other day, my medium to large load will be every few to 4 days. I almost wash my sheets more than a load of clothes!! But I do understand why you have 4 loads. I have to say, I see where Anngie got the idea you stepped outside without any clothes!!! Is there something about your lifestyle you have not told us? Lol! Yes, the temp change Sunday was actually fun to watch, as you said, about the morning; I got up, opened the windows, and all was fine, till will got that small rain shower, then the temp dropped. Good luck figuring out that pain, you DD still has.
Gareth, we will have your weather today. 80's, humid, then chance of storms later today. Way to go, going without a mask!!! I am still seeing at the store (I went yesterday morning) (grocery store), that the majority of customers are wearing the masks, and the minority (me) are not. It is strange, after having the anti maskers griping all this time, I really expect to see more customers without them on. Yesterday I almost felt I should dig my mask out of my purse and put it on, but I was too lazy. Now that you mention the large baggy tops, I think I will looking into those pretty dresses that are long enough, but then you can wear leggings with them. Those I think I would like.
Robin, as usual, I guess I misunderstood, about the money (what you had said). But I know what the lawyer told my father. And the funny thing is, Attorney Geimer is who my father went to. That is the older guy, who started the practice. Mary Rose is his daughter. I think when the attorney told all of us that, back in 2003, the law concerning his money was different, and it was concerning him going into a nursing home and what the state could do with his money, if he still had any decent amount of money. That is why the lawyer told him he could give each of the 4 children up to $10,000 per year, without a tax penalty, and then the state would not get that money to go towards a nursing home. Now how hard would it be for the CDC to issue you a card??? My goodness!! Just do it! How fun that would be if all of your kids and Maddie would join you and your DH on your trip, or hook up with you.
Carol, I too have heard Minister's and Pastor's mispronounce names at a funeral service. No excuse for that. I am still unhappy with the Pastor I had to use for DH service. But back then, it was tough times, as what clergy was around, were all busy doing services, so it was a take what I can get type of thing. Plus the Chaplain that did DH brother and my brother's service, who we really liked, was in the hospital. Crazy times. But as I started watching the daily stats again, it looks very hopeful that we are slowly on the other side of the pandemic. About masks, for the most part, I have given up wearing them. I have one in my purse, just in case, and also, for the places that require them, such as pharmacies, clinics and hospitals. Otherwise I am going with what the CDC is saying, and of course I am vaccinated. I am so happy to see the kids being able to graduate high school normally, compared to last year!!! Is that the case for the student you needed ideas for?
Anngie, I think, first, I will go browsing the stores around this area, to see what I can find, before thinking about altering a pair of pants. I do have a pair of pants that have a flower pattern scattered about, that I just love, so if I could find an appropriate top for that, I would wear those. Yes, I did receive my pills, from Amazon, at around 7:30 last night!! Funny too, about that time; normally just about every day, I see the Amazon van here in the complex, delivering, around noon time. So I was surprised that my order came so late in the day. I laughed at your take on Marsha's description of going outside, then coming back in to get dressed!!! Very funny!!! As I mentioned earlier, I am surprised I am seeing so many masked customers! Seems like I am seeing more now than when there were mandates! Very weird. At it seems to me, as I do not wear one anymore, I am getting looks from those maskers.
Our new case stats for the virus has gone way down, so that is a good thing. For a little while I was worried that I might not get a good turn out for the Memorial in July, but I am hopeful now.
The last I heard, DD2 was coming over today, so we could get going on addressing the invitations, but not too sure about that. I do not have a time she is coming, and I just don't want to bother her about it, so I will just wait, and be ready for her, whenever she comes.
DD1 bathroom is totally done, and decorated. DD2 set up a group chat on text messaging, since I unfriended DD1, and DD1 sends a picture on there, of the latest decoration she has put in there. Hopefully now they focus on cleaning out the rest of the house, to prep it to sell. My niece brought up a good point, to me, when she and I were PM, the other night. With DD1 without a job, (GRRRR!!!!), how will she get a mortgage (if she needs a mortgage, say for example, she does not have enough left from the insurance), without a job? Well, if I know mortgage lenders, nobody will give her a mortgage! Just one more thing to be irritated with her about. My DS is trying to plan a family party at her condo, just as she had done last June, but DD1 is not making it easy on DS, with supposedly saying she can not come. DS asked me first, how to go about inviting just DD1 and her girls, and not the man friend, as he is nothing to us. I told her, to message DD, and say, the party is on such and such date, can you and the girls make it? Lol, DD told her no, she can not make it!!! What a bunch of stupid drama!!!!
Need my 2nd cup of coffee. Have a wonderful day!

Karen, sorry about all that drama. Certainly that many years ago things were different, and of course every state is different. They used to tell people to gift money, and sometimes do it now to, but not to qualify for Medicaid because, if they are going into a nursing home, there is a 5 year look back period and they will see that it looks like he is transferring money to qualify for medicaid. That doesn't mean no gifts. My cousin gave his DD $10,000 when she bought a house. That didn't matter.
And Anngie, in simple words, No. In today's world there are a lot of things people might want to think about down the road, that can be built into a will, that most lawyers who don't know what to do would never put in. We definitely do shorter wills when people do not have a lot, and not much family. With so many divorces these days, if they want their money to go to their children, they wouldn't want it to be split in a divorce, so they would put it into a trust for their child, which would not become a marital asset. They also plan that if someone down the road needs a special needs trust, it can be established and it clearly states that it would not affect medicaid eligibility, which is definitely not something you want to have happen, or think might, but it could. I have a high school friend who still lives in the area, and is quite well off. One of his children has a 2 year old severely disabled grandchild. It is never a good idea to have money going to that child. For their benefit, sure, but not outright. Also, although we never want to think this would happen, sometimes a child dies before a parent. If it ends up that the grandchildren are still minors, you don't want them getting money outright, as their parent's share goes to them, not their spouse, unless the will specifically says that. Not as easy as you would think.
OK, now I am late and have to run.

Beautiful day today with temps early being 64 and going to get to 82 for a high. Much cooler after today with high's in the 50's for a few days. The weather has been crazy this past week with pop up scattered rain. There may be 2 inches of a rain somewhere and you drive several miles an very little rain. Sounds like it may be that way for the next week also.
We had a great time on our night away. So good to get away even if it wasn't far and not for long. Then yesterday early morning got a text from DS's that their daycare was closed as the daycare lady was sick. Just a day thing where she had the stomach flu. Anyways can I watch kids----of course I can. So I had 7 kids here yesterday so didn't get a chance to post. The 2 boys went with DH for quite a while and 2 oldest DGD's are good help now as they are going to be 11 tomorrow and 9 in a few weeks. They are such good help especially with their 6 month old sister and the 4 year old twin cousins. But whew!!!! We did our nails and made chocolate chip cookies so it went well.
Anngie----Congratulation on DS's big news. Glad he found the jewelry store on his own. And Happy Belated Anniversary-----what an excellent gift your DS gave you with the news of his engagement.
Karen---Hope your DD comes today and helps you with the invites.
Robin----hope you do not get fired for being late----like me I always say I have job security with working with family.
Marsha----I thought I was the only one who caught that about coming in for coffee and putting on your clothes and kinda snickered about that. I am sure that was not the case however.
Hi Carol and Gareth!!!

Stopping by quick before finishing the laundry and a little cleaning. I just took a break to have some breakfast. I want to get done before DH gets home and we walk. I've already had a short walk while waiting for the sheets to dry while another load was washing. DH makes sure I always have plenty of laundry. 70's now with 80's again later. Not feeling as humid as it's been when I walked earlier but maybe because it's so breezy. Chance of severe storms possible this afternoon. Highs of only in the 60's maybe even 50's later in the week. Sounds like what you just had Karen so maybe it's moving our way.

I had a nice afternoon with dd yesterday. We made a menu for the week and I have some recipes I need to print out and scan in and send to her today. She packed her things while on the phone so I didn't end up having to help her with that. So then we had most of the rest of the afternoon left so we made a sewing machine cover for her machine - well she made it, I instructed. She was very excited to use her machine and she is thrilled with how the project came out. Nice bonding time, too. I'm glad I took the afternoon off. She left this morning so she could be back in time for her 12:30 class and she has a riding lesson tonight. So tonight I'll strip her bed, and I have to clean up that sewing room!
Robin – thanks for the lawyer referral. I’ll follow up. That’s one of my summer goals.
Carol – such a shame that the minister got the names wrong. The one thing that people hate anywhere is when their names are wrong. I remember when I was first working as a paralegal, one of the lawyers always said make sure the clients names are spelled correctly, people hate it when you get their names wrong. Sage advice that has stuck with me. (Another lawyer always signed everything in blue because that way he could tell the originals from the copies because back then copiers weren't in color - that advice no longer applies!)
Anngie - haha! N@ked gardening day is May 1! DD has a month worth of pills so she is still taking those. One of them is 4 times/day and has to be on an empty stomach, an hour before eating and 2 hours after a meal so I told her that will help her break the snacking habit. The other she has to wean off of when she gets to the last week take every other day instead of every day because it blocks acid so if she stops it all at once her stomach will dump too much acid into her system. Re lawyers and wills. My aunt had her will done up by a lawyer who “specialized” in wills. She had a solo practice. My aunt had no assets, just her condo and whatever she had in her bank account which wasn’t much. My brother was the executor and when she passed it took him over a year to settle her estate because this lawyer was awful, non-responsive. He was in Atlanta and the lawyer was in Laguna Beach CA. She wouldn’t return my brother’s calls and really this was not a complicated estate that should have required a ton of time to untangle. After that experience my other aunt who had her will done by the same lawyer had her will redone with someone in Phoenix (where she was living at the time) who has a big firm with a big department who specializes in elder law and estates and trusts, etc., and my brother was her executor also and settled the estate in no time with no problems. She had a condo but she also had money, I’m sure it was invested and trusts, etc. I don't mean to imply that you can't trust solo practitioners, just this particular lawyer seemed to have a vulnerable target audience and she was not very good.

Since it seems to be an issue for all of you, I will clarify. I stepped outside in my pj's (which are pajama pants and a t-shirt, completely respectable), came in, put on clothes to garden and went back out. Wow what do you all think of me? I have a privacy fence but not that private! hahahahahahahah

Hardly had a chance to breathe today, just having lunch now and it's 2:00, but I am also answering phones. My internet disconnected yesterday, but a little while ago the paralegal crawled around under my desk to make sure everything was plugged in properly, and it started working.
Marsha, I know how things can get away from you, and sometimes seem a lot simpler to everyone than they appear. Also, every state has their own way of handling probate, and sometimes things are very easy, sometimes not so much. I must have missed the idea of you going out to garden, but if what you normally sleep in are clothes that you won't go out to dinner in, but could potentially wear outside, and people do, not so bad at all. I have my early morning dog walking clothes, then everything else.
Pinky, I don't know how you managed with 7, but so glad you could do that for them. Your little helpers were probably a really big help! That's what I say Maddie will be to her little cousin.

I had to go to the dentist this morning. I'm supposed to use a mouth guard at night. I needed to replace the old one and I just kept putting it off. Instead of making an impression of my teeth, they use a scanner. It is supposed to be better, but the scanning takes a lot longer time than just putting the tray of goop in your mouth.
We have rain again today. Of course, it started just as I was leaving for the dentist.
Pinky, so you had day camp at grandma's?
I've always thought it was important to get names right. I tried to make sure at school that I had the right name for a student especially since some go by their middle names or a shortened version of their first name.
Marsha, good job with the sewing machine.
Robin, I heard on the news that New York is not requiring masks at schools anymore. When do your school get out? The last day for ours is Friday. The dentist doesn't require them anymore. They told me they would wear them if I wanted them, too, but I was fine with it.

Carol, in NY, children between the ages of 2 & 5 won't need to wear masks in child care. Right now the positivity rate on Long Island is .79%, and teachers are fully vaccinated if they are not wearing masks. Most people indoors are still wearing masks. Also, me being the numbers person I am, had to check. NY State has a chart of how many people are vaccinated, and they break it down by race, which is rather interesting. About 75% of the people where I live, over the age of 15, are fully vaccinated.
Also Carol, I am supposed to wear a mouth guard also. I paid a lot to have one made, quite a while ago, and I don't even remember what happened to it. I bought a mouth guard on Amazon, and it serves the same purpose. I need to replace it though, but I paid under $20 for it.
