Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Nice day expected here today, with a high of 71. Colder tomorrow though.
Robin, I had heard too, that the schools in NY would be starting the new year in fall with all kids in school, no virtual school and no masks on. I tend to agree with that policy. I have been going into stores without my mask on, and I really am surprised that it seems more people are wearing them now, than when we were required to! What is the sense of getting the vaccine, if we have to keep wearing the masks? I am tired of protecting the unvaccinated, as they all had a chance to get the shot, by now. I don't recall you mentioning when your trip will be?
Pinky, yikes, you sure went above and beyond, with 7 kids!!! You are Super Grandma! I really do not think I could have dealt with that many. Our crazy weather continues here too. Nice day today, then the next 2 days, high of around 50! Brrr!! 63 on Saturday, then warming a bit. Sure would not want to be camping this coming holiday weekend! The Memorial day weekend is a big camping weekend in Wisco, and the unofficial start of the summer. So happy for you, that your night away was excellent!
Gareth, as I said to Pinky, our crazy weather continues here, with a nice day today, but the next 2 days will be chilly, with going into the holiday weekend. Feel sorry for all the campers here in Wisco. I may get over to the walking trail tomorrow, with the chillier temps, will see.
Marsha, that's nice about your afternoon with DD. It was so strange, how my cousin in law posted that joke about the privacy fence, I could not scroll past it, without tagging it to you. I hope you know we were just pulling your leg.
Carol, that was very interesting, to hear how the dentist has switched, for making a mold. I know that sooner or later I will need some major work done on my permanent bridge, so that was good to know. I heard that also, about the schools in NY, I think it is for the upcoming school year in fall.
DD flew through addressing the invites, yesterday. All I did was stuff the envelopes, and stick my address label on them. I am taking them to the Post Office today, to be mailed out. Glad that is checked off the list. Lots of running today, along with taking care of the invitations, I need to stop and get my glasses adjusted as they are too loose. Then a stop at Kohl's to return a bra, then WM for stocking up on some supplements, and a few other toiletries. Of course a stop at the grocery store also. I was able to walk 4 miles on my loops I do here in the apartment, yesterday before DD came. It was so warm and muggy, I was wet with sweat when I was done. Within a couple of hours I did not feel well. So I did not eat dinner, just went to bed. I am fine this morning, so I am sure it was the heat, even though I drank a total of 50 ounces of water.
Have a nice day everyone.

Beautiful, sunny morning for my walk. Last day of nice weather. Tomorrow it'll be rainy and only in the 50's. What a change from the 80's we’ve had. Listened to Not My Mother while walking. Really enjoying it.
Karen, yup crazy weather here too.
Pinky, I remember when DGC were young how exhausted I was after they were here. There was only three of them. Can't imagine seven! Karen was right. You are super g-ma!

Karen- I thought the timing on the gardening post was hysterical! Thanks for the laugh.
I got up and did half hour of weeding in the vegetable garden area this morning. I have a lot more to do but it's a start. My plan was to weed then lay compost this week so I can plant this weekend. And I still have to go buy plants. I'm not sure I will get all that done. I may end up just pulling the big weeds, planting, and laying cardboard between the plants to try to smother the remaining weeds. The challenge is always to keep the cardboard from blowing away. I had a lobelia on a low table and it has blown off twice already so it will have to go on the ground. We get a lot of wind.
Not much else to report. BBL.

Karen, how many are you having at the memorial? I am not sure you ever said, or how many are you inviting anyway? You never know how many yes's you will get. Glad you got that task checked off. Sounds like you have a busy day planned.
Gareth, I know what you mean about being exhausted. Of course when I am helping DS with Maddie we usually end up with a pretty long walk to go for lunch, plus my walk from the garage. I get lots of steps in, and then there is the getting down on the floor to play.
Marsha, my DH is planting vegetables in some sort of bucket. He did buy Miracle Grow soil, so let's see. He also got some kind of watering system with a timer. Luckily our basement is all trenched, so he can't do too much damage with that. I didn't think the sprinklers would really reach his buckets, and we are certainly not having a lot of rain.
Of course, there will be some rain over Memorial Day weekend, not that we are doing anything. I do want to check with DS what they are doing. I am going with one of my DF's to the local museum. I was in charge of buying tickets, that we now have to buy timed in advance, and stupid me put the first order through without picking the day and time. I emailed them to see if I could get a refund.
Getting through some tasks I have to do at work. Right now I am on the phone with Social Security. We got someone SSI benefits, but they don't understand why money is being deducted.

Karen - do you know if there are any cute little towns that might be fun to go for a weekend? I know you love Minocqua but I'm looking for somewhere out of the way where we could get a quiet Airbnb but have somewhere to go if the weather is bad. DH wants to go away and he won't make a decision where, he wants to bring the dog if possible so that means probably somewhere that we'd be sitting around the rental most of the time so I would like waterfront of some kind but if the weather is bad I don't want to be sitting indoors somewhere when I could be doing that at home.

It's 82 right now and should be like this the rest of the week. No rain today, but some tomorrow and Friday. This is more like our Texas springs.
I went to Target, Dollar Tree and Aldi today. All the signs said basically the same thing-use your own judgment when it comes to masks. The employees at Target and Dollar Tree were wearing masks. I saw more customers wearing them at Aldi. I went rather early so no place was crowded. I had my mask with me, but didn't put it on.
After being with DGS for a day, I am usually exhausted but we do love being with him. He moves so fast it is hard to keep up with him. Now that he is 3, he gets up the stairs faster. Before we could catch up with him because he was slow on the stairs, not anymore. We are going to see them this weekend. DSIL got a smoker and wants to show it off.

Hot and humid today but tomorrow on it will back in the 70’s.
Karen, yea on getting the invitations out! That’s an accomplishment right there! Plus - there’s no turning back! lol. Have you decided what you want to wear? Yes, kids in this state are back to school in September. Honestly, though, I think they could have been back this semester. The students and the teachers would have survived and the kids would have been better for it. I’ve read where in some states all (public school) students will be held back a year.
Pinky, oh my! You are a very energetic grandma! Bless you! Glad your getaway turned out so nice! We all need those once in a while.
Robin, I’m glad you mentioned all the more “personal/medical” issues of a will as I was only thinking about the financial/assets part. There is so much to consider, isn’t there. I’ll bet far too many people don’t even know this.
Carol, is your mouth guard one that rests in the roof of your mouth? I remember having that when I was having three teeth realigned.
Marsha, how is DD today? Have you used bricks or paving stones to keep the cardboard down?
Hi Gareth!
I went to WM today and noticed masks/no masks is 50-50 now. What I found interesting is the “no masks” were more people my age and older. I no longer wear one but keep it in my purse in case I need it. I have no problems putting one on if necessary.
Apparently DS2 went to DGF’s parent’s house last evening to get their blessing on marrying their daughter. As soon as he left her mother called me so happy that we have a wedding coming up. They think a lot of our son and we think a lot of their daughter. I sure hope this all continues! Might I add - he hasn’t asked her yet and the ring is on order!
We hope to leave around 3:30 tomorrow morning for Charlotte. I hope we can make it in 13 hours. I’m good for the first 10 but the last 3 are terrible.

Marsha, have you given any thought on Washington Island, or the Apostle Island's? Those are places on my bucket list. Are you thinking about going this weekend? You may have a hard time finding a place to stay this weekend. The west side of our state is so beautiful, but that is quite a drive, and the Apostle Island's are too, now that I think of it, so I don't know how your dog would be with a long ride. Even the Wausau area is very, very nice, I love that area. Still need to get to Rib mountain, another thing DH and I wanted to do. Good luck, I hope you get to go somewhere in state, as there is so much to see in our state.

Karen - not this weekend but in a couple of weeks maybe. DH just wants to go away. Washington Island is a good idea - I'll check that. I think the apostle Islands are quite a drive for a weekend, aren't they? Thanks.

Anngie, you are so right, most people think it's only who gets grandma's broach that no one wants. Or the good china. Normally we don't even like to have people put anything into the will about jewelry. Some people get more specific, making particular bequests, and anyone can write that. It's the other protection that people need, that when a lawyer who is a maritime attorney drafts a will they don't know about. Just saying that because I had to send something to a lawyer who had a Power of Attorney for someone. We had to do a guardianship because the format for the Power of Attorney was one that can't be used to put the woman on Medicaid. I googled him to find out what kind of a lawyer he is, and he does maritime and admiralty law. That's another thing that for us is a give-away, and not everyone does. We add a Power of Attorney, Health Care Proxy, and Living Will for anyone who wants estate planning, whether just a straight will, or a separate trust of any kind. For this, I should have gone to law school I suppose.
