Good morning! Ruth, sounds like you have a good plan for the pocket shawl to finish it off and make nice, secure pockets. Do not blame you for switching the stitch as its easier to make and more secure. Were you able to finish that shawl last night as you had hoped? A 6 pound baby is a nice size- absolutely big enough but not too large. think its a nice idea to invite DGD over with her little one. Its nice weather. (No snow or ice) and she might appreciate a safe location to get out to so you and Dh can meet the little fellow. Hope they are both feeling well and that he is an easy baby to care for.
Yes, I DVR’ed many episodes of that television show....I admit I got a little tired of some of the characters, but its a good show and pleasant to watch. Glad I have a lot recorded now, for when I am looking for something to view and am tired of what is on television. Got the baby quilt binding attached and am now hand sewing on the binding to the back. I should be able to get the quilt done this week, working on it a few minutes each day to do the hand stitching. Think I will do some gardening today and then might go view the local Memorial Day parade. Think these parades are less attended than they used to be- what a shame. Many today do not understand this holiday and I fear that someday some will try to erase the sacrifice made by men and women for our safety. Pretty sure I will attend the parade- a friend of Ds’s lost his life this past year in service to our great nation, and I owe it to his family to attend.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well Ginny - Hope you can get the binding finished on the baby quilt. I enjoyed Chesapeake Shores and I'm happy to hear a new season is coming in August. Ruth - Hope you are continuing to make progress with the shawls. Phyl - Hope you get things ready for your quilt get together. Sue - Hope you are getting to do some crafting. It was a cold, wet weekend here. I had to give in and turn on the furnace again, which was irritating since I have everything set up for air conditioning and had to move things around. But it's going to be warmer this week. I finished the Wiggle Time quilt top and I'm pretty happy with it. I thought about adding some borders, but I think I'll leave it as it is in the pattern. I have some leftover fabric from it so I'll be able to make something else with that. I also made three star blocks using the Tri-Recs ruler and I like them. They finished at 15 inches, so a pretty large block. I was thinking if I could make 3 more I'd have 6 star blocks. Then I could find some coordinating fabrics to alternate squares with the star blocks and make a pretty large quilt with just 12 blocks and some borders. Naturally I looked through my patriotic fabrics and none really match the fabrics in the star blocks And I finished binding a small sample quilt piece I'd made. And I have the binding ready for two more sample pieces. I want to try one of those with binding sewn on back and pulled to the front and the other with binding sewn on front and pulled to the back. Then I'll be ready to start binding some of my quilts that I machined quilted this last year. I'm hoping that I can get a lot of binding done this summer if I focus on it. Hope you are all getting to do some crafting. Take care

CJ- what great progress getting the wiggle time quilt done!! Wow. Perhaps you could make a table runner or pillow from the leftover fabric...you are so creative, you will come up with something. I do not remember what I made with the tri recs ruler- that threat quilt was all star blocks, so of course I cannot remember which block used that ruler. I think that is a great goal to get a lot of quilt tops binding done- then you can really consider them done and put them away- give them as gifts. Hope you enjoy the process of putting on quilt bindings, I think you wanted to try out machine finishing them.
I will be working on the baby quilt binding which I am 1/4 done with. Think I will watch some more Chesapeake shores and see how far I can get. Ginny

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today May seemed to go by a bit slowly for me, but it's not a month I like (lots of bad memories). But I do hope that June goes quickly and without too many hot days. Ginny - I hope that you can make some more progress on the baby quilt binding. I watched the rest of Chesapeake Shores yesterday when it was on, thanks for letting me know about that. Hopefully you'll get caught up so you can watch the new season in August. Ruth - I hope you are doing well and getting to work on your crochet. Phyl - I hope that you were able to get things ready for your quilting meeting. Sue - Hope you are well. It's a nice sunny day here and I think it's not supposed to get too hot. I'm happy to be able to open the blinds again for awhile, since I have to keep them closed most of the summer. I worked on some binding this morning and finished off one small piece that I had already attached the binding to the front, so I just sewed it to the back. The other piece I was trying out sewing the binding to the back and then finishing the sewing on the front. I did like the way this one looked and I think this method works fine for some small quilts or those that I'm not that picky about and just made for fun. But I think I'd prefer pulling the binding to the back for those quilts that I really loved - and I might hand stitch those anyway. The biggest issue I see with sewing to the front is that the thread color really needs to match the binding so the stitching doesn't show that much. I made a list yesterday of all the quilts I want to get bound and what color fabric I'd use for the binding. I think I'm going to have to get all the binding made first and then match up thread colors so I can see if I need to buy any thread. I've pulled a few small pieces that I'm going to try to get binding made for and do those with the binding stitched to the front. For those that read all of this, I'm sure you are tired of hearing about my adventures with binding I'll try to get a picture of the Wiggle Time quilt and star blocks and share them latter - that will be more interesting Take care everyone!

I can't believe that I didn't post here yesterday. I was here and read what was posted. Anyway CJ, no we don't get tired at all hearing about your quilting...binding or any other aspect of it. I'm sure you will find a good use for the fabrics you have left over. Even if you don't use them for a quilt there are so many small things you could make with them but after seeing some of your quilts I'm convinced that you will be able to incorporate then into a beautiful quilt. Ginny, are you growing the same things this year that you grew last year. I think you said peas for one thing and the critters liked to eat those. I didn't get the shawl done. I've been doing some other things but I did get to the end of the block stitch section and got the pocket section on one end done(20 inches of crocheting just for one pocket) when I discovered that I lost a block way back so I had to rip out probably back to the half way point took me about an hour just to do the ripping out. DGD's bp shot way up again yesterday to 170/111 so she called her doctor and they told her to eat, drink water, and take a nap then check her bp again. It came down a little. We'll see how it does today

CJ- do not mind one bit hearing about your binding ruminations....I too have debated how to finish a quilt, bringing the binding from the front to back or back to front. The baby quilt - which is being hand done- I am sewing it to the back by hand, just like the look better. You are so absolutely right, thread color is a big issue, and as long as the thread matches well it looks great. Sorry that May is a difficult month for you- think its not uncommon for us to have a month or season that seems to be full of less than good memories. Please remember we are friends here....and if you are having a tough day and just want a friendly email or need to vent ( keeping things out of the public domain) those of us who have your email would be happy to support you and give you a cyber hug. Glad I reminded you of Chesapeake shores.....dont you want to strangle a few characters!!!
Ruth, so sorry that DGD’s BP has shot back up. (Sounds like my BP after Dd#1 was born). Hope that her BP starts to go down and stay down. So sorry that you had to rip out so much. SO very frustrating....and annoying.

Ginny - Yes, Chesapeake Shores, the show can be a bit frustrating. I read all the original books by Sherryl Woods so I know what happens to the characters. They have changed the story lines around a bit. I call May "The Death Month" Many of my close family members died in that month. I'm always happy when our family makes it through the month with no deaths. Ruth - I hope you DGD's BP will come down. It's scary how many there can be problems after a birth, as well as before and during. I picked out binding material for 6 small quilts that are ready to be bound. I'm going to get the fabric pressed/starched and cut and then work on these over the next few weeks. If I can get 14 quilts bound each month in June/July/August, I'll have all but a few large ones finished. Most of these are very small size - table toppers and wall hangings so they should be quick to do. I'm going to post a few pictures in a separate post.

Good morning!
CJ the wiggle quilt is adorable! I do love those bright fabrics, thanks for showing us a close-up of them because they’re so pretty the colors are so vibrant and the fabric is just so interesting when you look at it close up. Well done nice job. Glad that you had that pretty ocean scene to practice on. You did a good job putting the binding on it. Now you can join the discussion as far as which way is easier to attach the binding front to back or back to front. Right now I’m leaning towards if you’re doing it by hand to bring it to the back, if your machine sewing and bring it to the front as you did. And I love the star blocks

Oh and the star blocks are beautiful also. I agree, you did a really good job on that binding. Mine would be wiggly sewing.. I can't seem to sew straight.

I had to take time out of my crocheting to dig gifts out of my toy stash. Dgd is coming from Montana with her 4 year old boy and when I took over the Christmas pocket shawls, etc, I forgot the little girls gifts that live here so they can all open gifts together. Dgd had to come down to meet her sister's baby. I also have the baby gifts and dd's birthday gifts...the yoda and blue alien. I didn't finish this dgd's shawl yet. It's the one I messed up plus I want to give her something for her "partner" ( a young man) too and that's not done either so I'll wait on their's andd the others that live in Montana. I have all wrapped but two but had to take a break. I took pictures of Baby Yoda...whatever his real name is...but they didn't turn out very well so don't think I'll post them on here. In person he looks awesome if I do say so myself.
Found out that dgs got to the US from Taiwan and the flight went perfectly so I'm happy about that.

Hello Everyone Thanks for your compliments on my quilts, I appreciate them Ruth - I hope you are getting to see your DGD when she is in town. I'm sure the Baby Yoda is really cute!! I'm happy to hear that your DGS made it to the US, I'm sure that is a relief for you. Ginny - Hope your afternoon was better than your morning It's a nice weather day here before we get some storms over the next few days. I made bindings for 6 small quilt pieces this morning, so I hope to get them sewn on over the next few days. I'm going to experiment with some different ways on a few of them. After I finish, then I'll pick 6 or 7 more pieces and get the binding made and attached for those. I also have a few other projects in mind that I want to work on. I want to make another Wiggle Time quilt with some different fabrics. This time I'm using a white fabric background with a whimsical sand castle print along with blue and green fabrics that match the print. I have a lot of the white fabric so I can put a large border around the quilt top this time and/or enlarge the pattern. And I really liked this pattern (Fat Quarter Fancy) and I have a bundle of blue and white fat quarter fabrics that I want to use to make this. I've had these fabrics for over 10 years and it will be nice to make something with them: www.sewcanshe.com/blog/fat-quarter-fancy-quilt-patternTake care everyone!

Not sure I can say that things settled down this afternoon, but the day is drawing to a close, and I am trying to relax.
CJ- love the wiggle time quilt and I think it will be adorable with a white background and the sand castles fabrics. Have fun with that!!!! Keep trying with the bindings until you figure out what works best for you. The fat quarter fancy project looks cute. There is always a special pleasure in using fabrics that you have patiently waited for the perfect pattern for. Enjoy the nice weather.....before the heat and humidity start.
Ruth, that is awesome news that DGS is on American soil!! I figure he had to take a covid test - but am so glad that he can spend time with the family. And yes, I am sure that baby Yoda looks adorable!!! Wish I could see him>
gonna work on the quilt this evening and hopefully finish the binding. G
