Ginny, I hope everything is ok with you and your family and that the things, whatever they are, will have settled down and you can relax. I hope you can get that binding finished.
CJ, yes yet another quilt that I've never seen and another really nice one. It's great that you have that fabric and have no found the perfect use for it. I also have that situation but in yarn in that I save my special yarn to make into something that is as special...don't know what I'm waiting for esp since I don't have all that many more years in which to use it.
I got all the gifts wrapped. Two weeks in a row of wrapping gifts is way to much wrapping for me. At least these I don't have to pack to ship.
Have a good night everyone and happy dreams

Good morning, Ruth- two weeks of wrapping is a lot and I am so glad to hear that you have finally completed that. Its rough on the back if you are standing to wrap and there is always the issue of finding the right piece of wrapping paper for some items that are not in boxes. A big relief for you! Have you heard from DGS or his parents since he arrived back here? His health was a concern a few weeks ago. Do you think he is still under medical treatment?
I did not finish the binding last night- still probably need another 2 hours of sewing to do so. Of course, finishing it on the machine would have been the easiest way to go. I did take the quilt to Jane’s yesterday so she could see it with the binding on, and she actually said she liked this baby quilt better than the one she just finished - Jane sews beautifully, it was all fabric selection, and we both followed the taste of what our mom to be family members wanted. Anyway, this quilt is almost done. I gotta say adding the binding really made a difference, as did the beautiful quilting job by Missouri.
Better get in the shower Ginny

Hello Everyone Ruth - I also have yarn and fabric that I'll probably never get to use, but at least it's fun for us when we do use some I haven't wrapped a gift in years - I just use gift bags, but mostly now I just give cash. I hope your family enjoys and appreciates all the efforts and love you put into your gifts for them Ginny - I'm glad you are almost done with the binding, I bet the quilt does look beautiful. I hope you can share a picture of the finished quilt. Hope your day is a good one I thought about sending the Wiggle Time quilt to MSQC to get it quilted since I think using a pretty variegated thread in the black fabric area would be pretty. But when I checked the thread choices they have there wasn't any variegated I went to JoAnn's this morning and found all the different thread colors I need. Their thread was buy 3 get 2 free, so that was a great sale. I'm sure now that I have enough colors that I should be able to attach all the binding on the quilts I have ready this summer and also do some machine quilting if I get time. I was also lucky to find some navy blue fabric with stars on it and I think it will go great with my star blocks. I just need to figure out if I want to make a block using the navy fabric or keep it a solid square. I'm leaning towards some kind of 9 patch or irish chain look maybe. Hope everyone has a good day. Take care!

CJ- I think either black, red or purple (Picking up the colors in the wiggle time quilt) would be magnificent in the quilt. So sorry that they do not have any variegated threads. But they did do a wonderful job on my DGS quilt. Absolutely worth every penny I spent on it- but I did have to wait about 8 weeks. I am so happy that you found some navy fabric with stars on it- totally agree that it should be perfect for the star blocks!!! I like both 9 patch blocks and irish chain....for that kind of pattern I think I would lean toward the 9 patch look. Hope you do not mind my opinion. Congrats on the thread sale too. Cannot beat that!!!! Yes will share a picture of the quilt. Now my goal is to have it to Dd by Saturday. I was just too tired to get it done last night.
Went to DGS’s kindergarten graduation. Lovely ceremony and the weather held up well. Had an errand to run to Lowes this am too, now am home. Dd will be over for dinner after her doctors visit.
I might submit a picture of the quilt now, before its done, so that you can see it and I can just give it to Dd whenever.
Hope Ruth gets some news of DGS and is so relieved that all the gifts are done, for now. On to the triangle shawls......
Sue, how are you?? How is DGD/
Phyl- have you been able to get some quilting in? BBL Ginny

Ginny - Your quilt is beautiful. I like the colors, you laid out those 9 patches really well. And I can see the teddy bears and other objects in the quilting. I like the darker binding too. I'm sure your DD is going to love it and the baby will too Your suggestions on thread color are appreciated. I know any of them would work. Maybe one day I'll send a quilt to MSQC. I'm still hoping that I can find a good local longarm quilter, since I'd rather not deal with mailing my quilts out. On the star quilt I was thinking about putting a 9 patch inside sashing with cornerstones. So that way the navy fabric would be up against the cream fabric of the stars (those would be the sashing strips), then the cornerstones would be the red star fabric, and the 9 patch in the middle could be the cream and red fabric. I'll have to play around with it and see what looks best. I want the star blocks to be the focus.

Ginny, your quilt is very beautiful and yes, they sure did a good job on the quilting. You did a great job on the binding and it's a perfect color l CJ, The plans you have for the star block quilt sound great to me. I hope you can find a local long armer. I too hate to deal with mailing of packages. I packed the box last week and it's still here and won't be mailed until next week. The plan you have for the star block quilt sounds very good and will make a great quilt top and I'm sure that trying different colors and moving them all around is a fun thing to do.
I'm back home after going to dd's house and getting in my baby holding time and toddler hugs. Even the 3 year old that is leary of me finally relented and gave me a couple hugs. Her little sister is much more gregarious than she is. I think taking over the gifts did the trick. Now dgd that came from Montana says they are coming back on the 19th and that dgs that also lives in Montana but close to Bozeman instead of being near Billings like this one, is coming too which means that I will be giving gifts to his son who is also 4 so I'll have to get some s little things for the others. I'll just go to the dollar store and get coloring books, interesting crayons, and summer things like balls and whatever. The dollar store has mini Etch a Sketches but they come with a sharply pointed stylus type thing that I think is way too dangerous for small children

Ruth, so glad you were able to hold the new little one! just so sweet to see them and spend time with young grands and great grands. Yes, Dollar tree is an excellent source of coloring books (their crayons are not too good however) and bubbles too....lots of fun stuff for cheap. I am sure you will be fine finding good and simple gifts in dollar tree..
CJ- yes- packing the quilt was a pain....but I am just so thrilled with the work that MSQ did. Hope you will give them a try some day. I totally agree, let the star blocks be the focus...and those 9 patch corner stone blocks will frame it well. Hope you are able to locate a good long armer locally.

Good afternoon all.I hope you are all having a lovely day. I can't believe it's Friday yet again but I say that everyweek and time just keeps marching on.
Ginny, my Dollar Tree does have some nice crayons. The ones I gave dggd yesterday had a different color at each end. They also have fat crayones for little hands and others have nice labels of current tv programs that children like. I think they have the twist up ones too. And I forgot about bubbles...thank you. Bubbles are perfect. And if it was really nice weather I could make some of the fake water balloons that are made with bernat blanket yarn (or any polyester chenille) and they could throw those at each other and even the adults could do that too. Today would be a perfect day for that...it's 93 already. Being that we have such a dry climate those that got wet would dry fast and not even need a clothing change. I'll have to get busy and make some...takes about two minutes for each one.oh and where we're going to get together outdoors has a beach so pails and shovels will be great also.

time sure does march on!!! In 3 weeks school will be all over and even though Dd is not sure when the last day actually is, legally I think they are done June 25. I will have 2 more days of work after that (training and a road test) but am looking forward to a summer of being home. And less pressure.
Ruth, yay for dollar tree!!! They have a lot of inexpensive stuff for kids (most of it does not last long, but will amuse them for a summer). good place for water shooters- and bubble blowers- hoopla hoops etc... and of course, pails and shovels. Great idea to make fake water balloons , a fun treat on a hot day. How is DGD doing? Is her BP coming down at all? Worked this am and then had a quick appointment with the dermatologist (no problem, she is just removing a benign growth). The cable company is supposed to be repairing my set- he left at 2 has not returned. If I am left without a television in my bedroom for the weekend I will be calling them to take care of that and reduce my bill appropriately.
As a matter of fact will call them now. BBL Ginny

Ginny, I hope your cable problem is fixed today! I know I mentioned before that our living room box (we still have Directv) hasn't worked in over a year. I don't like people coming into my house even normally but with the pandemic I definitely didn't want them here. We're going to get rid of it all soon anyway it's just a matter of when we want to give up watching the extremely few things we watch.
It's still hard for me to believe that they keep schools going that long back there. By the time school is ended there's not much time for summer things for families. Of course now that some kids have been having school at home parents could have been doing things with their children all along I guess. I'd hate to be in school here today...it did hit 100. Probably not officially but on my three thermometers.
Well I got the tote bag that youngest dgd requested and I expect the water bottle holder will be done today also. It doesn't take long to make one of those. Now the sweater type thing that she likes might be more of a challenge. Of course I still have that last pocket shawl to finish after taking it apart to correct my mistake.

Hello Ruth - I'm so glad you were able to go and visit with family and that you had a good time. I bet it was wonderful seeing the little children - they are so much fun at that age. Hope you get some cooler weather soon - the hot weather is headed my way now. I have issues with my cable too and don't want anyone in my house. I have 2 boxes and the one that is newer works on the TV in a room other than where I have a couch to sit. That ones gets all the channels I pay for each month. The other TV has an older box and it doesn't show a lot of the channels I like to watch. I know I just need to trade it and get a newer one, but I don't want to go into the cable office at this time. Ginny - I hope you can get things fixed with your cable. I'm sure you'll like it when school is out for the year and you can have a break from working. I'm sure you'll be busy with the grandchildren this summer. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are well. I've been looking at binding tutorials again today since I was working on some of my binding this morning and I was still struggling a bit with joining the ends after I've sewn the binding on. I think I've found a way that works best for me. I also did one piece with sewing the binding on front and machine stitching in the ditch to secure it to the back. That was O.K., but I don't like how it looks on the front when I miss stitching exactly in the ditch. Then I did a few with sewing the binding to the front but when I sewed on the front to secure the back I didn't stitch in the ditch I went up onto the binding probably 1/8th of an inch. I kind of like how this looks. It's similar to the look you get when sewing the binding to the back and then sewing it on the front - both look about the same. I think that I'll end up sewing the binding in different ways depending on the quilt I'm working on. At least I found really nice matching thread for each binding from what I bought at the store yesterday. I have 3 more pieces to get done and then I'm ready to cut some more binding. I would like to work on something fun though, so I might get some fabric cut for that Fat Quarter Fancy quilt. Take care everyone and have a great weekend!

So thankful its Saturday!!
Ruth, bet you’re glad that you’ve got that tote bag done and are almost done with the water bottle holder. Did you use the macramé yarn for that or find something else that you thought that would work. I was wondering if you have any plans for the yarn from the shawl that you’re going to take apart, is there any rushing you doing that? And I really hope that your weather breaks that you don’t have a few days of close to 100° weather. That’s just no fun. Is there any news from your grandson?
CJ, You and I are both in agreement on how to attach a binding. Guess we’re both the most satisfied when we attach it to the front and bring it around to the back to join it. There’s no way to get it perfect so that it will the stitching will force right in the ditch where you want it. I think if you do that to succeed on the front it’s not gonna look good on the back and vice versa. For a baby quilt I made a year ago I tried to use a zigzag stitch knowing that it was not gonna look perfect but knowing that with a baby quilt it’ll see a lot of washings. Missouri has a video right now on a self binding quilt, I use that technique once many years ago. I actually was pretty happy with the result. I did not watch the video but if it’s what I think it is you do have to prepare in advance to do that and have the fabric backing fabric cut large enough to wrap around to the front. But it does illuminate the need for joining the binding to the front or the back and that seem. So if you were to topstitch the binding to the front, It wouldn’t look bad on the back. I hope I’m making sense.
Ruth had asked about my garden, so far I have lettuce, green beans, potatoes, corn and peas planted. I’ve not gotten good germination, so I don’t know how successful garden this is going to be. I did finish the baby quilt last night and will be giving it to my daughter today. Got a phone call last night from my oldest daughter, and it looks like I don’t have to babysit this week There will be an isolated day here or there for me to watch them before the end of the school year.. I think for this area of the country we have the school schedule schedule set so that truly the hottest part of the summer the kids are home and not in school. I think it’s more based upon how our seasons run and here the hottest months are July and August. Kids here will be home later in the summer than southern kids who go back to school in early August. The same length school year it’s just a shift in timing as far as when they are off or not. To me it always feels kind of strange when schools are back in session before Labor Day.
Very hot here today, so I’m gonna go out for my walk now and do some gardening and then close the windows and put the air conditioner on. I think DD#2 is coming over at some point today. Stay cool! Feeling Sue we miss you and hope you can check in.
Ginny

It sounds as if you will have a lot of good veggies if the gardening improves and the seeds actually start working better. The only thing I planted this year is dill and that's indoors. It's really the only seeds I had left.I've had them a long time and they did, surprisingly, germinate pretty well. I didn't expect to see any little plants but I'd say about half came up.
I haven't heard much more about my grandson. I asked his mother how he is because I saw a picture and he looked very thin. She said he is thin but is just tired and just needs rest.
I'm glad to hear that you have the quilt done...congratulations!! Now the baby can make his appearance.Speaking of quilts I think the wiggle quilt that CJ made would be great as a baby quilt with baby fabric where she has the jewel tones. It would be cute. With the jewel tones it's amazing...can't think of a word strong enough to express how impressive it is.
The binding info sounds complicated but I've watched videos on how to do it. Only thing is that I don't sew very straight so that's definietly a problem in binding.

Oh, you asked, Ginny, what I'm going to do with the yarn from the shawl I ripped out...well I'm not sure yet. And I didn't get the bottle holder completey done because other things came up that I needed to do so I'll finish it today. As I said, it won't take long once I get to it.
I looked at our long range forecast and it's to be very hot for the next 10 days if the forecasted info stays true. Dh will probably put the a/c in today so that will cool the downstairs but will be too cold for me. Great for him and his breathing though.
