Hello Ruth - I hope your DGS will continue to get better. Looks like we are all getting hot weather! I agree on the Wiggle Time quilt. It was quick to make and would be pretty in so many different fabrics. As soon as I have time, I'm going to make another one with the sand/sea castle fabric (picture in next post). Ginny - I hope your plants grow. We sure had some strange weather with warmer temps in early May and then the cold, rainy weather in late May. I hope you enjoy visiting with your DD. I agree on the binding process. I found that I didn't like the little lip that shows on the front when you sew your binding to the back. The only thing about that process I liked was that it was easier to see where to sew on the front. I watched the MSQC self binding tutorial and it isn't something I'd want to do, but I don't really make any baby quilts. What I'm doing now is sewing the binding to the front, pull to the back, and then I sew again on the front about 1/8 inch from the ditch. You are right that it is really tough to get right in the ditch and I don't like sewing that line of sewing go from the ditch up onto the binding when I get off track. So sewing right on the binding seems to work for me. I checked out a lot of blogs and I didn't see anyone doing it like this, so I guess I'm a outsider I'm going to post some pictures of what I'm doing in the next post. I finished some more bindings this morning and I've pulled 9 more quilts that all need red binding. So I got that fabric pressed, starched and the strips cut. I think I need to keep working on bindings as long as I can stand to, because at least the process is fresh in my mind right now. Even though it feels like work. It is nice to see the finished quilt (I'll post some of these pictures too). It's really hot here and sunny - my weather station said 97 degrees this afternoon. I think we have the same weather for several days. I did go out and spray some weed killer in the cracks in my driveway this morning, so at least the sun will help kill those weeds. Hope you all have a good evening!

Here is the fabric I want to use for another Wiggle Time quilt: Here are some front and back views of the way I'm doing my binding: Front Back Front Back Back Now that I look at these pictures, I do have that small lip in the front, but at least it's not loose, so I guess that's what bothered me more. Here is the front of the quilt with the lime green binding. This was a guild challenge when I was in a quilt guild. We had to make a small quilt using that print with the purple, pink and green:

Here are a few more I finished: This was a kit I bought at a quilt shop/show More leftover fabric from a quilt - this one is small 12x14: Tablerunner - just using more fabric. I underestimated the size of the small triangles that I used to snowball the corners and you can barely see them

This one was using up some gingham fabric I had, it's kind of funky, but I do like the orange binding

Ruth, hot weather... well I know you are not bothered by it much. Hope that Dh can get the AC in so you can both be comfortable. I know with AC on too cold it feels even colder than it is and seems silly putting on sweaters when its 100 degrees outside. Hope that you can get the bottle holder done , I know it will not take a lot of time, but still will be nice to have that project done. Will renew my prayers for DGS. Beth the family is so happy to have him home again, but I am sure they want him whole too. Sounds like he has been through an ordeal and it has really taken its toll. With prayer, the love of his family, good food and some rest, he will recover.
Checked the garden and still nothing new. I do have a lot of grapes on - so unless the deer or the birds get them I might be able to make a batch of jelly in the fall. I have lettuce I can eat....which I do enjoy.
Ok so here is the saga of my television. The remote stopped operating the TV (and an old remote I have works it just fine so I knew it was the new remote). Called the cable company to get a new remote, which arrived Thursday. I mentioned something about my cable box always in need of rebooting- and the person on the phone said that should not be and that they would send a service tech. The service tech was to arrive between 2 and 5 on Friday, which was confirmed in an email from them. While teaching a class on Friday at 11:30 I got a call from an unknown number. I did not answer . About 20 minutes later Ds called (which I did answer ) asking which TV was out. So the previous call was from the cable repair. I told Ds it was my bedroom television. When I got home at 1 the tech seemed confused (so he had been working on the problem for over an hour and got nowhere). He asked me for the original tv remote, which I did find....and then told me he did not need it (so why ask for it?). At 2 he announced he had to return to the warehouse to get a new cable box as the new box was also faulty. I asked when he would return, and he said 2 hours. Needless to say he did not return. I called the cable company at 4:45- and let them know what an awful employee this guy was and that he was improperly trained. The man I spoke to then was super apologetic and gave me an expedited appointment to get the system repaired. That appointment is for tomorrow between 2 and 5. The cable in my bedroom now does not work at all (thanks to the bad service tech) and will be out of service for 2 days. I asked for a partial refund for loss of service and to speak to a supervisor. Supposedly, once the service is restored, they will issue some sort of refund. Then today.....and you cannot make this junk up....I get a robo call from cable reminding me of my appointment tomorrow between 10 pm and 8 pm. (Yes you are reading that correctly). So I called the cable company again to assure that my appointment was scheduled between 2 and 5. They assured me that the call- which was computer generated- was obviously in error. Unreal. I hope that they send a different tech tomorrow as I will not let the other moron in my home. At least before my cable box needed frequent rebooting, but it worked. Now it does not work at all. Let’s see what tomorrow brings.
Gave DD the baby quilt and she does love it. Now gotta figure out to make a simple quilt for the kitten who likes to sleep on my falling charms quilt, but I want to finish working on it. So I decided to make a simple quilt for the silly kitten to sleep on (thinking about one of those 3 yard quilts) so i can make something small and a bit easier and have fun with fabric. I must be nuts. Ginny

Gee CJ you have been busy!!! Looks like we both have had the same frustration with bindings, which is why I elected to hand finish the quilt for DGS. I am very pleased with that and how it came out. yes, you end up with that flap, and I do not know how to get around that problem, unless you use a decorative stitch which is wide enough to span the lip. I like that little 12x24 piece- Its quiet something what you can do with leftover fabric. The next wiggle quilt - will that be with a white background? Really like the teal colored fabric and it will be so pretty in that quilt. We all notice the imperfections in our own work- all your quilts look lovely and we would never notice the problems with them unless you had not pointed them out.
Wonderful visit with Dd. Her Dh wants her to hang out here at my house a lot in the next 2 weeks as I only live a short distance from the hospital.
Hot here but thankfully the airconditioner is working great. Ginny

I don't have any idea why I'm a guest again but will make due.
I'll talk to CJ first so I don't forget. CJ the fabrics you chose for the wiggle time quilt are perfect. I love the combo. There's not a quilt on there that I don't like. I see what you mean about that lip on the front. When I thought about sewing from the back I wondered if that would happen so now that I know for sure it won't be something I would do.
Officially they say our high yesterday was 94 but that's not true at all. There are several locations that post and it actually was 100 in the majority of places

I'm sorry to hear that your garden isn't doing well but as CJ said the weather has been erratic and that affects growth for sure.
Sorry too about your cable problem. That guy should be fired. AT least when I had service people here they always seemed tomostly know what they were doing except for the first one when I first got sattelite tv way back.A couple that came here over the years were really good.I hope they get your tv straightened out tomorrow. mine used to need rebooting and my remote for one of the tv's downstairs didn't work properly. I went online and got a new remote and it wasn't any better so I just made do.one time when I had cable, the sattelite the cable company used went down and I had tv, phone, and internet all through them so couldn't get any of those for several days. I did like you and called so they said they would give me a refunt...it turned out to be $3. That's why now I have internet and tv from two different companies. As my friend back in NY told her company when they wanted her to "bundle"...nope, don't put all my eggs in one basket.
I knew your dd would love the quilt. Does she have everything all ready now for the little fellow? Soon you'll be holding a tiny one too.Sure makes me wish I had gone over when oldest dgd first had her two. From now on that's what I'll be doing...that is if any of them have more.
Thank you for your kind thoughts and also prayer for my dgs. I know it will take him awhile to recover from all this
Yes make that little kitten a quilt. Hopefully she will stick to her own then and not lie on yours. I see a lot of ppl in the crochet groups posting picture of their kitties, dogs or other pets sleeping on their work and they say that can't work on it because of that.
Speaking of things for babies, the scratch mitts I made were way too big. He has the tiniest hands. The booties were too tight in the cuff to be able to get them on his feet easily so I was a little disappointed in that. On the other hand, my dd is in a group on, I guess Facebook, that follows the Strange Planet cartoon that has the little blue "beings". That's what they call themselves is beings. Anyway she posted a picture of the little blue guy I made in the group and said that a lot of the young people there said the are "epic" and that I have "mad skillz" yes that's how they spelled it is with the z. Some asked her if they could buy some. So that made me happy.
Happy quilting CJ. You sure have accomplished a LOT!!
Got the water bottle holder done and am back to working on that last pocket shawl that I had to tear out half. The other one will be ripped out completely when I get to it or want to use that yarn
Have a great night everyone

GOOD HAPPY SUNDAY MORNING,
YEP,I am still alive, sorry to be missing in action for so long.this has been a busy week.
MEMORIAL DAY was the parade and time at Jeana's,Tuesday we met Marlene and Don At family restaurant in PORTAGE,then spent a coupe of hours in the park.we had lawn chairs with.
stopped at there quilt shop there, bought a panel that will need to be cut in half, one side says rejoice and has the holy family on it, the other side says joy to the world and shows the 3 wise man going to the manger.now to figure out how to put it together and quilt it.I use fusible web and birth it, I won't need to quilt it.
Wednesday was going to funeral of DON'S classmate.very sweet lady. getting the gps gave us a adventure,Don had it programed for hwy's,something went wrong and it took us on country roads. what should have taken a over an hour took us a little over two.
after the luncheon heading home,we stopped at a Amish quilt shop. nothing bit me.second one was Menonites, bought some red plaid fabric.
when we got to Augusta,we called JIM and Theresa and stopped there. went to supper with them.got home at 9 pm.left at 8, I have not been dressy for 13 hours in years. just a nice set of capri's and top.
Thursday was sew day only took hand work with me.
Friday the chiropractor. is anybody tried yet?
so far this week I only have Thursday filled in.

Ruth- you are welcome here anytime!!! Sorry you had to check in as a guest. Congrats on getting that water bottle holder done. So now onto the triangle shawls??? BTW- looks like HL is having a yarn sale. You are probably not needing any but I thought I would let you know. Hey, so you could go into business making strange people! That must make you feel so good....I will have to see if I can find a picture of one online to see what they are all about. What a shame about the scratch mitts size....can the pattern be adjusted? Did Dh get the air conditioner installed? Looks like we are all in for a few days of 90 degree weather.
Phyl- glad you enjoyed the amish quilt shop. They can give you great ideas, and it is always nice to look. Sounds like a lovely time in the park with Marlene and Don. the quilt panel sounds pretty- not too soon to think about Christmas.
My cable is still not fixed, but the tech who just left said its a problem with their software and they have to fix it from the office side. He says it will get repaired this afternoon, however. I hope so. Got back to work on the falling charms quilt, feels good to be free motioning again. I feel I learn from each time I do that. Yes Dd is pretty set for the baby. Most of the stuff she says she might “need” she really does not need. They now make all kinds of high priced stuff that is absolutely not needed.
For some reason I think that CJ found the wiggle pattern on Missouris youtubes. But I am sure she will straighten that out. And I am probably wrong. Last night i went through my stash and found some fabrics to make a quilt for the silly kitten. I will use one of those 3 yard quilt patterns (a pattern I already own and am anxious to trying it out). I will make a half a quilt, which should be perfect for the kitten and I have enough fabric for that. Looking forward to starting that.

GINNY FOR THE KITTEN TRY A PIECE OF FLEECE. TOONEY was a indoor outdoor cat. she a had basket she laid in. I put piece of fleece in it and she loved it no matter how cold or hot it was. it will pick up hair.
funny about the basket,I brung it home from mom's funeral in AZ when the plants died, the basket was put in the garage.one day walked in there she was in the basket..just a round basket with two small FLOWER pots a in it at one time. so YOU know it wasn't big. served her well for aa lot of years.good t hing I HAD other changes of fleece.
when her body started shutting down and she knew it was the end she went to the basket.
course we know kitties are going to lay where they like.both of our kitties liked laying on the Christmas tree skirt..one morning after Christmas, I found fluff asleep in a box with the present still in it. KITTIES DO HAVE A MIND OF THEIR OWN. phyl

Phyl- my 21 year old cat sleeps in a cardboard box with a cheap flannel/fleece blanket in it. The kitten has chosen to sleep on the dining room table, which is a short distance from her climber and the window with the bird feeder. I had kept the baby quilt on the dining room table- she liked that cause it was so soft and puffy....then I switched it to the falling charms quilt so the kitten would have a quilt to sleep on. Just put the falling charms back on the machine to finish it, so I better get busy working on a replacement. I found some fabrics that I really like and will actually look pretty good on my dining room table so she can sleep on it. Actually I am a bit excited to make the quilt as I want to try out one of those fabric cafe patterns that I had bought. this kitten absolutely has a mind of her own. Such a funny cat. Love your story about the round basket. Cats sure do pick out funny places to sleep.

Hello to Ginny and Phyl and CJ when she comes in
Yes cats seem to have minds of their own and sleep wherever the want to sleep. No I'm not to the triangle scarves yet. I'm finishing that block stitch pocket shawl that I ripped out half because I was missing a block way back. I'm not going to finish the other one that I also tore some out but replaced it with this block stitch one. I'm finished with the block stitch part and am now working of 16 inches of half double crochet on each end to turn up for the pockets. Then after weaving in 10000 ends I can do the edging which will hold the pockets in place and edge the whole shawl. THEN I may start at least one of the triangle scarves...they aren't going to be full size shawls. They'll be for just around the neck and, of course there are many ways you can wear them. I still have dgd's sweater to make. It's more of a shawl cardigan...at least that's what they call it. Comes in child and adult sizes too.

Hello Ruth - That group of young people are right - you do have mad skillz!! That was a nice compliment they paid you Sorry to hear about the size issues with the booties and scratch mitts, I can imagine it's difficult to know what size to make for an infant. Ginny - I'm sorry to hear about the issues you are having with your cable and with the service by the technicians. I hope they can get it fixed today. Phyl - Sounds like you had a really busy week, hope this one is a bit quieter. But it does sound you had a few nice outings last week. The Wiggle Time quilt pattern is one that I bought. I could probably have figured it out just looking at the pictures, but I like to have the pattern as the quilter wrote it, so I don't mind buying them when I really want to make the quilt. Here is a link to the website with pictures of the different quilts and a link to the pattern: quiltingismorefunthanhousework.blogspot.com/p/patterns-for-sale.html payhip.com/b/1LAQI am using the white fabric as the background this time and I think I'm going to alternate blue and green blocks across the row, rather than a whole row of blue and a whole row of green. There is also a bit of purple in the fabric and I might use that for a small inner border and then some of the white for an outer border. I'll have to see when I get to that point. I made binding today for the 9 quilts that I'm using red fabric on and hope to start sewing them on tomorrow. I think I'm going to sew the bindings onto all 9 pieces first and then go back and do the final stitching down. I kind of like doing one process at a time rather than a piece at a time. It's very hot here, so I'm just trying to stay cool. I keep all the blinds and curtains closed and hopefully that helps, but it sure makes for a dark and gloomy house! Hope you all are staying cool and getting to do some crafting. Take care!

The past week(s) have been more or less the same as those before.
June has been one of the driest Junes on record. Does not bode well for later this summer. I have been eyeballing the five Scotch pines to the east of the house. I’m concerned about them as a fire hazard. The area would make a good garden, but that would require some work by others. I would probably eliminate the existing garden area or completely redo it with perennials. Not this year.
Lots of company later this summer. It’s a good thing our families are small. I told one of his daughters that visiting is fine, but they need to stay in town or at the cabin.
The sprinkler system is having problems and will probably be solved by a new controller. In the meantime, the exceptionally dry weather is creating dry grass areas. The sprinkler guy can’t do anything about it for two more weeks. I’m going to have to let go of that one.
The dogs want to come in. They’re barking.
