I always think that both of you...Ginny and Phyl...must be exhausted a lot because you do have a lot of activity. Phyl, getting the binding sewed is a great step forward. And Ginny, yes you're almost done with that large quilt already.
CJ too, you may not go out a lot like Phyl, or work outside the home like Ginny but you sure keep busy with all your quilting.
The triangle cardigan is my favorite also. I think that the pattern actually calls for #4 yarn but I want to make it in Mandala which is a #3. I'm finally done with the ends of the pocket shawl. Now I'll spend time this evening trying to get the last 3/4 of the ends woven in.As I mentioned, there are a lot of them.I don't think I have any #2 weight yarn so that's added to my list of don't haves that already has lighter than #4 weight cotton. I forgot too that I want to make some more of the crocheted water balloons for our family get together toward the end of the month. I'm sure that the adult grandchildren will love soaking their so's and their siblings.Little ones will like them too but will just be throwing them toward each other since they're really too young to actually hit anyone with one.

Insurance well I've had Aetna, Allstate, State Farm, Hartford and for a number of years now...GEICO. I'm happy with Geico and have good rates considering I have three vehicles covered all with full coverage and roadside service. They also offer other benefits that I've never used. I also got my homeowner ins thru them.So since Progressive scammed me I'll just stick with what I know and like. It's hard for me to believe that I've been driving for 62 years

I have been with the Travelers-that relationship goes back to my grandmother who had her engagement ring insured by the very same agency (which is now under a new owner). We switched to geico - who treated us very well- when Ds started driving and the rates offered us for a 16 year old male driver were insane. Think we stayed with them about 5 years and and then rate creep kicked in and geico Mande themselves non competitive. I went back to the same agency and am back with the travelers. The rates I was paying were so good that Dd#1 and her Dh switched to the Travelers (same agent). Ruth, I do know that most insurance companies do give a longevity discount- if i were you I would stick with geico.
Ruth I had never heard of crocheted water balloons- just read up on them. What a cute idea and so sweet that they actually look like little balloons. I would imagine that making them from a yarn that absorbs quickly is a good idea. In my spare time (ha ha ha) I should make some....think the grandkids would love them. That triangle shawl - done in a lightweight yarn so it drapes well- is appealing to me....but I just do not have time to make one. I have the shrug for myself that I am working on, and a kit I bought last spring from Mary Maxim for an afghan for DD#2 and DSIL. Think my priorities will be to finish the falling charms quilt, then move onto the quilt for the kitten and then this pretty afghan for DD and DSIL. Last night I got two more bobbins done. When you free motion a quilt, you start from the center and work your way toward the edges. That way any bunching is worked out and not pushed into the middle. Anyway, last night I looked at the quilt, and saw that I am have just one side left to quilt - so I rough measured it and saw that I am approximately 85% done.It uses a LOT of thread to do this, so this evening if I make it to HL I will pick up one last spool of their quilting thread which I like as it has a nice homespun look.
Got the windows open, the temperature is lower but the humidity is high. Its nice to hear the birds sing...but I expect to be closing the windows in the next hour. I am looking forward to the cooler temps that they say are coming. And the cable company is supposed to fix the television again. Ha ha ha. I just want the problem resolved, whether its by optimum or a switch to another cable provider. Okie dokie i have blabbered enough. Got an errand to run this am and then wait for my friends from the cable company.

Well, Phyl if you had to wake up so early at least you got a good show to watch!!!! Did you learn much?
My cable if fixed! This time they sent a real cable employee and not a contractor who does service calls for the cable company. So thankful. Yes they gave me a credit towards my bill.

Ginny, I have my home owner ins with Travelers but went through Geico. Geico it'self doesn't sell home owner insurance.Maybe I should check their auto ins rate.Ithink, though, that if a bin hits your car and damages it is really considered an at fault accident that they, also, would penalize me so, as you said, I think I'll stick to the one I have.
Yes a trip to Hobby Lobby will be a nice thing. I don't think this week is their 30% off week. It could have been last week but there's always a coupon for 40% off one item. You can browse through fabric and yarn while you're there. I'm glad you're reaching the end of the free motion quilting and will be able to put on the binding and another project will be checked off. You have quite a list also. What kit did you buy from Mary Maxim. I never ordered anything from them until recently when I ordered yarn twice. I haven't used it yet to see how it is but it feels nice on the skein. They are the ones who, when I left things in my online cart because the shipping was a lot, sent me an email telling me the they were giving me free shipping so, of course, I ordered then
I did finish weaving in all the ends on that pocket shawl. I exaggerated of course on the number. There were actually 96 ends. I did start the edging but didn't finish that part yet. I'll do that today then I, also, can check off one more completed project.
Oh and Ginny, the water balloons are usually made with Bernat Blanket yarn. I think that any similar yarn (chenille made with polyester) would work but everyone recommends that one and I had some already so made some with it for the Indiana family. The ones for here will be made with it too because I still have some.and I know that Hobby Lobby has one that is very similar...I have one skein of that so might try one and see. A lot of people make those in the summer to sell at craft fairs and usually buy a Dollar store child's sand bucket and sell it as a bundle. You need a bucket anyway to dunk them in to get them wet.
I was thinking of making some of those freezy pop holders but I have to find out if my grands actually let their children eat freezy pops. I doubt my oldes dgs gives them to his son because his SO is really into healthy foods.

Ginny, yeaaaa, I'm so glad they finally sent a competant person and got the tv fixed!!
Phyl, he does crochet super fast. He barely even looks at his yarn and hook but, apparently, never misses a stitch.I saw a picture of him one day dressed in some clothing he had made for himself. Well I have to say that it was not a good idea. They were pretty ugly colors etc but did show that he has a huge talent. He has a youtube channel which I've never looked at but if he crochets tht fast on it people will be complaining even though there are settings to slow the video. It's amazing how many men have crochet blogs and youtube channels. Of course Jonah is only about 13 but has sure made a name for himself.I've also seen some young boys projects in the crochet groups where the mothers post the picture of their sons' completed projects.

Back from my excursion to HL. Had a great time with Stacey. Yes I got the fabric I wanted, found some really nice fabric as a matter of fact. (Overall i like their quilting fabric better than Joanns). Got my thread too and tea lights. Now I had not checked out the water balloon pattern until I got home.....should have bought yarn for that project. I do have some lion brand blanket yarn (6 weight) but I am not sure if it has the chenille component and wonder if it will work out as well. I just checked - its Lion brand Hometown USA. Think I will try to make one and see it if works out well.
I made a Mary maxim baby afghan many many years ago. A year ago, I was checking out their site and found this pattern called crochetted stripes throw. it looked pretty and I thought of DD and DSIL and how their home is decorated. What I loved about the pattern is that Mary Maxim pretty much gave you the ability to make your own kit- choosing from their diverse yarn colors to make up an afghan. So I changed out the one color to a nice teal, the other colors I kept the same. The yarn kit came in a clear plastic zipper bag and I remember was on sale too. The yarn seems really nice...
So got a busy weekend- a retirement party and a funeral. Hope I can make some water balloons. The list of projects never seems to end. Ginny

Ginny, I'm glad you had a successful trip to HL and enjoyed your time with Stacey. As for the Hometown yarn, I have some too and I doubt that it would work the same as Bernat Blanket but I haven't tried it. I believe it's 100% acrylic which eveyone claims won't work because it doesn't absorb enough water and doesn't give you that "splat". Also if it does absorb it might be heavier and hurt when you get hit with it. Being that your grandkids are young they probably won't be throwing hard anyway but you could make one and see how it works for you. I think I'll make one in each of those yarns and see if I can see a difference and will let you know.
Oh and I got the last pocket shawl completely done. I'm glad to be done with those

Hello Everyone Phyl - I'm glad you were able to figure out what was going on with your machine and you got your binding made. Ruth - I'm glad you finished the last pocket shawl, I'm sure it will be fun to work on something different. Ginny - I'm glad your cable is fixed. Sounds like you have a busy weekend ahead, hope you have time to try to make a few of the balloons. Sue - I hope you are well. It's been hot here so I haven't been outside very much. I haven't even gone anywhere this week and don't think I will. Tomorrow is supposed to be cooler, but with rain. I finished getting the bindings on the pieces with red fabric - I only used 2 different fabrics to bind those 9 pieces. It did make it easier to make a lot of binding from just 2 fabrics. I've also pulled 10 new pieces, trimmed them, measured them, cut and pressed fabric for the binding strips, joined the strips together and pressed them in half. So I'm ready to start sewing on the binding for these pieces. This time I had to use a lot of different fabrics and it did take longer. I pulled pieces that will have pink, green and cream fabric bindings. I hope to get those done by the weekend and then I just have 15 more to work on. I think my least favorite part of the process is making the binding so I might go ahead and make all the binding for those 15 pieces first and then it will just be sewing on and the final sewing that needs to be done. I found that part was a lot quicker. It has been nice to see my quilt tops made into finished pieces, but I find that since most of these pieces were just things I was practicing on or playing around with, it's not as satisfying as it would be if I could finish one of my lap size quilts. Maybe one day I can get those finished I don't ever want to get things backed up like this again, it's just not much fun doing all these things at once, it feels more like work Take care everyone!

Ginny, I don't think that Hobby Lobby even sells Bernat Blanket yarn but they do have a chenille of thier own. I did get one balloon made but not the Hometown yarn one yet.
CJ, It does sound like making all the binding at once is a good plan. I hate things to pile up too so need to finish some baby blankets I started years ago. I hope you can reach that goal and have it off your mind
We've been out in the yard doing the dreaded yard work which I don't like at all. Dh mowed and I cut down weeds. It's very hot here too but the wind is extremely hard today with sustained winds of about40mph and gusts much higher. I have trouble walking when the wind is so strong. It tried to blow me over.

I looked on HL's online site and see that this is the week for 30% off and free shipping over $50. They do have Bernat Blanket yarn but their Cozy occaision yarn is the same and is less expensive. I'm really tempted to buy but I have a lot of the blanket yarn. I'd love to get some of their I Love This Yarn and ILTC. However I also have a LOT of yarn that is the same as ILTY I don't have much of their cotton though so will have to think about this.Am I going to make things that require cotton? Esp this nice cotton. I need to start thinking about things like that before I buy.

And Memorial Day weekend Joann's had the blanket yarn a little cheaper and free shipping with no minimum so I should at least wait till July4th when all the companies will undoubtedly have good promotions.

CJ- I 100% agree with you, the process of making the binding is the worst....its fun to be in the design stages of quilting - picking out fabrics or patterns or both. Even cutting is fun as you begin to see the design take shape. And sewing is nice, not much better than the peaceful hum of a machine. But the binding? Well, cutting a tiny strip, and then the diagonal seam and ironing. An important part but it does not seems to add to making the quilt pretty. I do enjoy getting the binding attached because it finishes the edge. Anyway, sounds like you are well organized for getting these quilts finished. Understand that this feels like work to you. Hope that this goes quickly and that you can return to making nice quilt tops soon. A nice cold front is coming though - are temperatures falling in your area?
Ruth, the dreaded yard work. (Got plenty of it here waiting for me!!!). At least you got some done, a shame it was so very windy. The weeds do seem to grow out of nowhere and come back in hours. Glad you and Dh shared the work together. It does make things go easier if you are working together. Thanks for the heads up on the yarn. There is a chance I get near Michaels this weekend and if I do, I can pick up the yarn then. (Will check online to see what their inventory is). Worst case scenario i can order from whoever is the least expensive. Yes I sure wish I had thought of this project when I was in HL last night.
Hope everyone had a good day..... Ginny
