Jennifer, I understand what you are going through because I have not been vaccinated yet either.  I have very painful chronic vestibular migraines and I'm not sure I can tolerate the side effects of the shot. Two of my kids had the second shot and were ill the second day of the second shot. My daughter said her second shot hurt her real bad when she got it. She did not feel well at all for nine days following the shot, on the 10th and 11th day she had a mini stroke each day, was in the hospital for three days. It has been over two months and she cannot work, she is in rehabilitation, she may not be able to go back to work as she is not recovering from many issues she is dealing with. We believe these strokes were caused by the second shot she had, she was not ill prior to the second shot . I don't mean to scare you but I do understand your fear. I want to get the shots but will wait a little longer, I've considered maybe just getting the first shot. I also wonder how long the shots are good for? On another note, I have seen reporting on a study that showed brain tissue shrinkage in Covid patients. It was small, mainly affecting the area of the brain that registers smell. Explains the loss of smell symptom. The severity of illness made no difference; every person had the brain tissue loss.
This was one study, but it was reported by Dr. Scott Gottlieb, who does not toss this sort of info out willy-nilly. He did emplasize it was only one study, but he said it was a very good study with a large number of people examined. It is from the UK.

Mac,
My heart goes out to you. When your kids are sick you wish it were you instead of them, you would trade places with them in a nanosecond!
All I can say about the shots is that we took the first one (Moderna) had reactions very similar to the flu. Lasted 3 days for DH and 4 for me. When we took the second shot a couple of months later next to no reaction. Was it the longer spacing between shots, not enough studies have been done.
Son and his 2 boys took Pfizer, 1 day somewhat reaction. If I had to do it again we would take Pfizer.
As far as the masks go.....I go out I use them. If someone looks askance at me the mask will protect them from reading my lips.....

lani I heard about it in my car on sirius xm dr radio. I can only speak for myself, I feel different. I am 7 months out and still feel things I did not have before having covid. After 2 1/2 months I got my smell back but its still somewhat distorted. I smell something sweet randomly and often. Some foods still taste very bland. I have some digestive issues that feel very different from anything I've ever had. I still have a weird pain in my breastbone and ribs. Sometimes I feel short of breath. That bothers me the most, it scares me. I have never smoked and have no allergies or asthma. 😕

Jennifer , I am so sorry you are having lingering issues. It sounds awful. I hope everyone who has longer lasting post-Covid effects will get better eventually. Yes, because people who lost their sense of smell get it back, to me that says the brain can make new connections and compensate for losses in a particular area of the brain.

We just had a big family gathering last night. It was indoors with many small children. None of us wore masks except for one couple, both over 70, the husband with diabetes (under control). They were thinking about the new mask mandate in LA. The rest of us feel that the case rate and vaccination rate in our area is so good we are OK going maskless.
