Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store , attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity- even visiting us here to join in our posts!! There are plenty of days in which the closest we get to crafting is a visit here, so even if you have no time to craft, we would love to hear from you. We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion! So glad you are here!! Please feel free to stop in and say hello!!

Here starts another week!!
Ruth, we were posting at the same time yesterday so I did not see how your day went. Glad you started on another shawl pattern and as you made no comment regarding the pattern, it sounds like this pattern is working out well. Kind of stinks that the other pattern designer erased your comments, now others might find themselves having the same problem. Those who use the internet for shopping or advice rely on others mature and responsible assessments. I have heard now that you have to use caution (especially with Amazon, but I imagine other sources are suspect also) for product reviews. I hope that some rain is headed your way. We could use some rain here also, been getting brief showers in the evening, but a day of gentle rain would be more beneficial.
I did get a few minutes on a water balloon done but then opted to watch some television as it was late and I was getting tired. Got a date with my friend to walk this am and then a dentist appointment. Bible study tonight…think it is our last day of heat and humidity. I am looking forward to cooler temps for sure. Ginny

Mondays are usually slow here. I went for a nice walk this am with my friend, what a shame it was so hot. But we were in the shade, so it was, for the most part pleasant. Had a dentist appointment too this am, glad that is out of the way. I had a tooth that was a bit uncomfortable and the dentist took care of it.
Planning my meal for tomorrow, as I will be making some to take with me so that Dd has another meal. I know she froze some meals, but I think its nice for her to save them for those days when the baby is really needy or she does not have another meal from someone else.

WEll we were going to go do some shopping but dh decided against it and that was fine with me. So we went out and did some dreaded yard work. I know there are people that really enjoy doing gardening and even some that push themselves to do extensive work in their yards even when it makes them aches a lot but I'm not one of them. I do what's necessary and that's it. It was cooler today with a nice breeze so a good day to do it.I am kind of disappointed that my rose bush that produced the beautiful yellow roses seems to have died off. I had planted another but it didn't last thru the first winter.
Ginny, it sounds like you have another busy day ahead of you. And, no, I'm not doing another pattern. I'm doing the same one but I went through and wrote it out clearly in a notebook. All the astericks were confusing. All pattern writers use them but almost always in a way that you can understand. I can't really explain how she did it but it definitely was confusing. Also the way she phrased things was confusing.I haven't got to row 19 yet though where I'm sure she made a mistake. But I know how to correct it now. I'm up to row 15 now so half way through in terms of numbers of rows but each row gets longer as you go. If dh doesn't keep me too busy I should have it done in a couple days.I guess tomorrow will be shopping day.

Hello Ginny - I'm glad your dental appointment went well. It is really hot here, so I'm sure your walk was bad! Wow, those quilts you made were large and I'm sure it was tough wrangling that quilt around to get the binding sewn on. Ruth - Sorry you had to do yard work. I do have several family members that absolutely love yard work - but I hate it. I think the most frustrating thing (besides the work) is that nothing I do ever turns out looking nice and so I just opt to take care of weeds and not worry about beautifying the yard. I'm glad that you are able to work out that pattern so it makes sense to you. I've taken quilt patterns like that and written onto them or rewrote them so they made sense to me. It's very hot here today, so I'm glad to be able to stay in. My Amazon order for the hole punch and chalk pencils came today, so I hope to try marking some baptist fans on a practice quilting piece soon. This morning I finished making the purple blocks for the June's Rainbow Scrap Challenge and also the small Sewing Bee blocks for that monthly sew along I'm participating in. So I'm all caught up on those. temeculaquiltco.blogspot.com/2021/06/tqc-journal-summer-2021-issue-no-2.html - Sewing Bee I hope to be able to work on my hand binding on the small hand quilted piece and also cutting some fabric for the Fat Quarter Fancy quilt - I already have the fat quarters pressed: www.sewcanshe.com/blog/fat-quarter-fancy-quilt-patternTake care everyone!

Well from reading both Ruth’s and CJ’s texts, it looks like none of us are fans of yard work. For me its the frustration of getting an area weeded and looking pretty and a few days later the darned weeds are back and while you were not watching, invited 10 or their friends and family. It just seems like a never ending job. I am mulching a lot this year, and hoping that will help. And now that cooler temps are here for a few days, Hope to finish the garden strip that has been my nemesis for years. I had a cute story about that- I was weeding under a small Japanese maple, only to look above to notice a mother cardinal on her nest above my head. Of course she was motionless….protecting her little ones. So sweet.
Ruth, glad you are trudging through that shawl cardigan and i look forward to hearing that its done. Glad you rewrote the pattern to make some sense. Shame on the designer who neglected to do that.
CJ- glad your supplies came to start working on the baptist fan quilting pattern.
Off to go help Dd with the little one, who has his first doctor appointment this am.
Thank you Lord- the remains of a tropical system came through and I have cooler temps and we got some much needed rain. bbl Ginny

Hello Everyone Phyl - Hope you are feeling better soon Ginny - I'm glad your DD has you to help her and happy to hear that your DGS is doing well Ruth - Hope you are getting some crafting done Sue - Hope you are well It's a lot cooler here today and we had rain this morning and early afternoon. I cut some fabric this morning for 2 quilts that I'm working on, so now I'm ready to start piecing them. One of them is the Tri-Recs star block and I hope to get that top done before July 4th. The other is the Fat Quarter Fancy quilt. Take care everyone!

Ginny, it's great that you live close enough to your dd to be able to help out. I'm sure your dd appreciates having you near.I'm glad to hear that baby is just about back to his birth weight.
CJ, I especially liked the second link you posted yesterday.
Dh and I did go shopping and despite the fact that the weather forecast was for cooler days all this week, today was not cool at all. It was 95 just a half hour ago. I haven't been able to sleep well for about a week and thought that since the shopping is over I can take a nap and if I don't get to sleep it won't matter because I don't have to go anywhere but then I remembered that someone is coming over to check on yet another plumbing problem, this time regarding the septic tank. I'd love to live in a situation like one of the ladies on the other thread I used to post on. She lives in a senior condo where they have a maintenance person for any problems and no yard work to do. She has a nice balcony where she can put plants if she wants. She usually puts out a couple tomato plants and her house plants for the summer.
So I got four rows more done on my shawl cardi last evening and nothing yet today. I was making mistakes last night because of being tired and am more tired now so maybe will work on something simpler

CJ- you are so organized- and I love hearing about what you are setting up to work on for your next quilt tops. Glad you are enjoying the cooler temps. The rain seemed to be something that came along with nicer weather. Hope it lasts a long time!!!
Ruth, ah the joys of home ownership. Hope your septic issues are an easy and not a terribly expensive fix. Have you been unable to sleep well because of the heat? I will pray that you are able to get the rest that is so important to our wellbeing. Would spending some time at your property near Ds be a good alternative for you and Dh? Rest up…..glad you got some shopping done.In the past you have mentioned that its easier to shop without Dh, so I wonder easy being out and about was.
Got a quieter day tomorrow and hope to get to my machine. G

Well, Jane and her DMIL stopped over for tea- we spent most the time discussing sewing, as Jane’s DMIL is hoping to teach sewing to a home school class of girls. Think they are headed up to Joanns to check out supplies now.

yes, as I said to my neighbor a couple times, you buy a home when you're young so that you will have a place to live when you're old. then when you get old you realize that you can no longer take care of such a big home and yard.
I'm sitting here waiting for the person from the septic tank company. He was supposed to come "in the afternoon". Well it's afternoon and he's not here yet. And I'm not a good or patient waiter. And I have even been crocheting or doing anything else because I just can't get into other things when I'm waiting either for someone to come here or for me to go someplace.I might start crocheting something simple.

Hello Everyone Ginny - What a nice surprise to have a visit from friends and enjoy some tea. Hope you were able to work on your machine today. Ruth - I hope the service person finally came. I hate waiting for them too, I feel like I can't do anything but walk around the house and wait for them when I have a appointment. I cleaned out my sewing machine this morning and put on a new needle. I had done that at the beginning of June when I knew I was going to work on all that binding. There was a lot of lint in the machine, so I'm glad I cleaned it again. I also started working on the Star quilt and finished making all the star points part of the blocks, and trimmed them. I also started working on the 4 patch portions of the blocks too. I didn't have a lot of time this morning so hopefully I can work on some more the rest of this week. Take care everyone!

CJ, I do admire how you set up certain quilts to work on and have your plan to make blocks and then all the other steps that go into making a complete quilt.
Ginny, I know it was nice having your friend and her dmil stop by to share some tea and talk about sewing. I hope they were able to find the things they wanted in their shopping trip
Well the service person did come and go and said he did what he was supposed to have done but I didn't see hide nor hair of him at all.I had to call their office to find out he'd already been here and gone. I know he was here because of the tire tracks across my yard. Therefore I didn't get any of my questions answered.I've never heard of a service person coming and working without letting you know they were on their way then letting you know they had arrived and will start your work. This is the second and last time I will use this company. I only hired them because them other companies couldn't come for at least another week.

CJ- pretty amazing how much lint can build up in a sewing machine and how it can make them run poorly or cause trouble. Its time well spent to clean a machine and change the needle. All that effort will make assembly of the star quilt much easier. How far did you get on that today? Is that supposed to be a large quilt?
Ruth- do not think any of us want to know how much time we spend waiting for service people. How insanely rude that the service person did not at least try to contact you and Dh to inform you of his effort. Was your issue resolved? Hope you were able to relax and crochet a bit…to take your mind off the unprofessional attitude of that worker/company.
Worked this am ( I was on standby) and the spent a few hours with DD and the baby. He is so cute- and as newborns do, changes daily. We got to go out for a walk together, and Dd said she felt pretty good to walk, although was tired after our one mile walk. (Was probably not quite a mile). DSIL came home so I left them so I would not be intruding.
