I'm not sure I believe in it. It seems like I work at changing my behavior and build new habits and routines that keep me in line. I keep sweets out of the house. That started at the beginning of my weight loss in 2006 and at the time I knew I had to do it. In a way that is easy because I just have to say no once in the store. I also work on my thinking and talk with myself to get me to do what I need to do. There are plenty of times I give in, I guess at those times my sabotaging thoughts win.

Willpower - I guess I mostly use cognitive-behavioral skills and don't rely on willpower. I also sometimes work on habits - creating healthy ones and ending unhealthy ones, but I have a long way to go to feel confident in my ability to do this.

susan092907, Yeah, that's what I do too. I work on myself and my environment to keep my need for willpower lower.

susan092907, Yeah, I'm so happy I'm doing something but worry about a change in mood. Keep telling myself how much I like and how it is good for me.

bbbearsmom, I don't always enjoy doing whatever exercise I'm doing, but I am so happy with the results that I get from it. Kind of like not liking to keep my food intake within certain boundaries, but being thrilled with the results. It keeps me going at it. For me, exercise is very helpful for mood issues - just my personal experience. But like with being in control of my eating, my efforts don't always show up right away. Sometimes it takes a couple of weeks for the scale to register the results.

susan092907, I do the walking before my meditation and I think that helps the meditation. I'll need to remember to focus on liking the results.
