I am well aware that they might "guess" a lower number of pounds, but still, they are always way off the mark, or refuse to believe me as I mention my actual weight. Is this a common problem, especially for people who have slimmer friends?

Hi blainer! We are trying to figure out if you are a real poster or a troll so I thought I'd just ask. π€ Because we all know everyone is so truthful on the internet. π€£

Hi blainer ! We are trying to figure out if you are a real poster or a troll so I thought I'd just ask. π€ Because we all know everyone is so truthful on the internet. π€£ I understand, but I'm a real person. 27 year old female, 5'9" and about 350lbs. I'm in the posistion that a majority of my friends are slim, so whenever someone mentions weight gain or otherwise, there's that uncomfortable silence. I was hoping to find somewhere online to chat about weight issues.

blainer you're in the right place! Sorry about that, we've had so many spammers that have been burying links inside posts that sound real lately so we just wanted to double check. Let's try this again, WELCOME! π€ I completely get where you are coming from. My mom loves to argue about my weight. She'll make comments like "oh you've lost" "no mom actually I've gained" (uncomfortable silence) "are you sure?" "Are you seriously asking me if I am sure I've gained weight?" You get the idea π€£ It's even harder with friends when the topic comes up. I remember when I was younger after I had my first child and went back to WW with a friend, she didn't believe my starting weight?! Ummm *awkward*. It's like you have to jump on the scale in front of them. I'm really not sure if they think they are being kind or just clueless. But I am glad you found us, we get it, we've all been there! Make sure to join us over on there General page and again sorry about that start here. βΊοΈ

At 5'9" I carried my extra pounds well. I was careful about how I dressed and got a lot of "Oh, but YOU don't need to lose weight!" I quickly decided that my weight and what I eat is no one's business but mine and my doctor's, and I don't entertain (or appreciate) comments about it. Some of the folks who said I didn't need to lose were obese themselves! It's a personal matter. I am able to read a BMI chart, so I know what my healthy range is. As I have aged, I have come to the conclusion that the top of the healthy BMI chart is a good spot for me, because I can maintain for long periods at that weight. Unfortunately, I have also shrunk 1 1/2 inches, so my healthy BMI range dropped lower, but I have managed to reach it.
I don't tolerate comments on my weight or my food choices. A simple "thank you for your concern, but I've got this" with a smile is the best I can do. You are young and I think you know what to do for yourself. Try to ignore the discussions and concentrate on taking good care of YOU!
