This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. ********************* Liz, stay safe. I see roads and subway stations in NYC are flooded from Elsa’s rains.

Karen, nice score on the peaches and blackberries. Traffic will be up here this weekend. It’s air show time and the Thunderbirds are back. One of the pilots is a local boy. The predicted storms and rain did not materialize. I think Liz got our share. Peter Sagan hurt his knee on one of the crashes on Day 1 and then banged it hard on the tube Wednesday. By the time he finished on Wednesday he could not bend his knee. Now he is hoping to be mended for the Olympics. That is disappointing news about the Pfizer shot. I thought we would be good for a couple of years.
Becky, I hope you were able to get a good night’s rest and the medicine helps you heal quickly.
Linda, I hope things cool off a little for you. One does not need a sauna in Arizona. Just sit in the garage for 5 minutes.
Kathy, was the National Spelling Bee big news since it was held in Orlando? I see Surfside is no longer in search and rescue mode but search and recovery. The families must be devastated all over again. Still getting rain from Elsa?
It should be cooler today, just 80° but more humid at 70%. It is not looking like a good weekend for the air show if the weather guessers are right. Rain is predicted for Sat and Sun. We should be fine tomorrow for the YS farmer’s market. Today I just need to run a couple of errands. I also need to find a new favorite Thai restaurant. Ours has just about eliminated all our personal favorites.
Have a good Friday.

Thanks for the start, Chele. I heard Cavendish won today's stage to equal Eddy Merckx's record. I knew it was going to happen at some point, but the difference in character between the two is very diverse. But now he's in the record books, for better or for worse. I knew Sagan had a knee issue after that first crash, but I hoped he would be over it by this point. I didn't realize he reinjured it on Wednesday. I hope he's healed for the Olympics. Other than YS, will you be staying off the highways with all the extra traffic? I'm sure it will be a huge draw after last year. Our storms haven't happened either. I was really counting on a little help with the watering. Did you get your errands run? Any luck on a new Thai restaurant? We have 2 local ones and have never been particularly fond of either. Too bad the good one is a 2-hour round trip. We found out they still are open but closed between lunch and dinner, which is when I was trying to order. Once you've been to a really good one, your standards are higher.
Liz, how was the commute with Elsa heading in? I saw some flooding on a highway in the Bronx, so I know there were problems around you. I hope you have a quiet weekend? How are things with DS and the family? Is Zoe continuing to improve from her UTI?
How are you feeling, Becky? Is the dizziness improving? I saw something about a new law in TX where anyone can sue a clinic or doctor who helps a woman get an abortion. It sounds like you don't even have to be related to the woman who got an abortion. So at least they are not just targeting voting rights now. But this could really tie up the courts there with what are essentially frivilous lawsuits over things that aren't their business.
Linda, winter may come, but you have to wonder, after the way the summer has been, if it won't feel much like what you have come to expect in winter. I heard it was going to be hotter in Vegas today than there. But then when you are over 110°, there isn't a lot of difference. Is shrimp on the menu for today, since you had chicken yesterday?
Has your rain ended, Kathy? If so, I'll bet the heat is back. How's the pond level? Got any activity? Any plans for the weekend? Did your aunt go back home? I didn't stop at Publix yesterday. It didn't seem they had much of anything I needed in their ad.
We have cloudy skies and wind but no rain, at least so far. It's 78% humidity, however, and it's 85°, so it feels like 96°. Mold is in the high category and my sinuses are being bothersome. Dale had to run to the auto parts store to pick up a battery for the generator. The service guy came yesterday and determined we needed a new one. Now it's reading "battery problem", so we're waiting for a call back to tell us how to clear the message (it apparently requires a technician code). Dale said the generator should work even with the message. Hope he's right. But I also hope we don't need to find out. I did a load of laundry this morning and have been working on my MG presentation for 10 days from now. I need to get the outline finished so I can start building the PowerPoint. Better get back to work. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Chele, the Spelling Bee was on the local news here and in the newspaper. I know some of the Surfside families were holding out hope, so I'm sure they're devastated. I just saw a story about them recovering one of 2 brothers. They were both doctors and one was visiting the other for the night. His wife and kid stayed with other relatives that night. The Miami Herald has a lot of details on its site and they've opened up the articles to non-subscribers. Hope the rain holds off for your YS trip and the air show.
Liz, hope you didn't have any issues on your commute with the rain. I second Karen's rec on Discovery of Witches. I haven't watched the season finale for season 2 yet, but it's been really good so far. It's has a good story, plus some beautiful scenery and special effects.
Becky, hope you're feeling better.
Karen, it's been dry so far and it's already up to 93. It sure doesn't take long for that heat to come back. It looks like it's going to rain though, so hopefully will cool off a bit. My aunt went home early due to Elsa. The pond is pretty full and flowing out into the storm drain. A couple of ducks were resting under my oak tree in the backyard, so even the ducks like the shade in this heat! Just finished a grocery order for DM and I'll be heading over there in a bit. I got some strawberry cherries that come from the same area as the Rainier cherries. They're similar but I liked these even better last time I had them. Hope the generator works, but you don't have to use it.
Linda, I'm with you on preferring winter to summer. We don't have your intense heat, but it feels like we're trying to dodge storms all summer long.

Thanks for the start Chele. I would love to see the Thunderbirds. Thanks but I didn't even get 6 hours sleep last night. My appetite is back unfortunately but I'm still dizzy and my eyes and sinuses still hurt. I did call the clinic but since I was even a little better my NP wants to give it a little time and call back on Monday. Hopefully it will be a lot better by then. I am so tired and I can't walk worth a darn at least in a straight line. The humidity is not helping. They said it only got in the upper 70's in Austin but we are at 81 but with a nice breeze. We are just opposite of you. We are expecting very little if any rain this weekend.
Karen The dizziness is not improving. I imagine with vertigo that will take longer. I have also been having migraines behind my right eye. When going shopping I do okay holding on to a cart but here outside not so good. I disagree with abortion not being their business because I don't believe in abortion but you are right about it tying up the courts. It has taken us 4 days to get 1" of rain.
Thanks Kathy. Not much better but still hoping. They were just talking about the spelling bee on the Austin news.

Thanks Linda. I know I'm not falling apart but it is hard not to work in the garden. LOL. Our friend told me his wife had vertigo really bad recently from bending over picking cucumbers, tomatoes and peas. I hope you enjoyed being out even if you aren't a fan of Olive Garden. Another place I haven't eaten at in years. We could make a meal on their salad and bread sticks.
