Hello Ruth - Hope you were get all the weeds pulled. Those things grow like crazy Ginny - Let us know what quilt pattern you've picked to work on. Well, I've changed my mind again on the Starlite quilt fabrics I'm going to call this quilt the "Indecisive" quilt But this is the last change because I went ahead and cut the sashing pieces. Instead of that greenish fabric I'm going to use a white that has a small print on it. That seems to make the blocks pop better. I have everything cut and I'm ready to make the 7 blocks I have left to do and then sew them together with the sashings and cornerstones and I'll be done. Pat Sloan's new block came out today, so I'll need to pick the fabrics for it. She also showed what the final layout will be and that really helps me with fabric choices. Here's a link to see: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/2021/07/summer-soiree-free-sew-along-block-2.html - you can see Block 2 and the layout below it - just scroll down. Hope you are all doing well and staying cool. It's still very hot here. Take care:)

Yowzers!! Hot day here, so I got most of my being outside out of the way early. So its been a bit of a quiet day…and I did get the fabric cut for the fabric cafe quilt. I actually at the last minute changed my mind on one of the fabrics I am going to use. I might actually have enough fabric to make a second quilt using the same 3 fabrics, and just change the sequence in which the fabrics are used. I might start to put the quilt together this evening. I will see how I feel.
Hope everyone had a good day and is able to stay comfortable. Ginny

CJ- as I was clicking “send” I noticed that you had posted. The quilt I am making is called overnight sensation - its supposed to go a bit more quickly than the others ( and it is, after all, for a cat). So I do not want to put a ton of work into it. www.fabriccafe.com/Easy-Does-It-3-Yard-Quilts-book-p/031950.htm The quilt I am making is one up from the bottom. Looking forward to seeing the new blocks you are making for the starlite quilt. The white background with small print will work beautifully and I am sure work out great. Looking forward to seeing pics of the blocks when you are ready and feel like posting pictures. I hope you are able to stay comfortable despite the heat. I think next week the temps are supposed to drop a bit- a welcome change for both of us. That second block is neat, and its always interesting to see what others do with a pattern and what fabrics they use. None really caught my eye for the second block yet, but there were not that many pictures posted yet. Have a good night all Ginny

well we're home from shopping, things are put away, dinner is in the slow cooker and all is well
Both of you would love it here today. I think the high for the day is much lower than predicted. As far as I know it got up only to 75.
I still have a lot of weeds and had I been home I would have sprayed the thistles that keep coming back since there was no wind. They're a recent invasive plant and it's really mulitplying along with a plant that looks similar to a sunflower. The thistle actually has a very pretty flower if you let it stay in the ground long enough but it has...well, thistles which dig into your skin and are hard to get out.
CJ, well you're allowed to change your mind. It's a right you have as a quilter to experiment and see what works best for you personally. All of your quilts have been great so I'm sure this one will be also. I do like Pat Sloan's block #2
Same for Ginny in changing her mind of which quilt to make for the kitten.
I completely changed the pattern I was using and the woman who designed it would never know it was her pattern if she saw it. I sometimes like using bits and pieces of patterns and putting in my own choice of stitches and, of course, colors. I may sometime have to make the actual pattern just as she designed it. I'm almost done now and just have to finish the handle part.

Ruth, glad you had such lovely weather to go to the store today! 75 is pleasant for sure. Open windows pretty much work to stay comfortable. Oh so nice to hear that you put dinner in the crock pot! As it creates heat for a long time, I usually (when I use the crock pot on a hot day in summer) put the crockpot outside so the heat does not make a warm house even hotter. Hope your dinner was wonderful. Indeed thistle is so invasive! I have never done any research on it, but figure that its just the tiny seeds and dry windy weather in your area that make it so spread so profusely. the purple flowers are pretty for sure, but the plants themselves are ugly. Birds sure do like the seeds however….yes best to pull those plants when they are little and the thorns on the plant are not as painful if you get stuck by the plant. Good for you changing the pattern! That comes with years of experience - knowing what works best and looks good. I gotta laugh over your comment about your desire to make the pattern as the designer wrote it. After that I bet you would still like your modifications to the pattern better!
Ready to start assembly of the quilt for the kitten. Last night I caught her resting on the table runner (folded up and on the kitchen table). She obviously likes that padded feel, which she will get when this quilt is completed. Now I have changed the quilt pattern and one of the fabrics for this quilt…but the kitten will not care. Soon I have to motivate myself to go out for my walk before it gets too warm. Not sure what the rest of the day will bring….got plenty of stuff to keep me busy in the house and out of the heat. Ginny

Just got done with some pesky household tasks so am taking a break before I do more of them. I didn't get to any crocheting yesterday because a book I had on hold became available so I had to read I did get crafting in earlier by looking at some finished items in the crochet groups and also watching a couple crochet videos. Ginny, when you go for your walks do you aim for a certain number of steps or just enjoy the walk? It sounds like your kitten does love padded things to lie on. She will be happy when the one you are making esp for her is done ...well we hope anyway

Hello Ginny - Hope you can start assembling the quilt for your kitten. It sounds like she loves to lay on quilts, so I hope she likes the one you make for her Hope you stayed cool during your walk. It's really hot here too. Ruth - I'm glad you have a new book to read - it's really great when a book we are waiting for becomes available. Hope you enjoy it Phyl and Sue - Hope you are doing well. I finished making the rest of the blocks for the Starlite quilt and starting sewing the sashings on. I hope I can finish the rest of the sashings and cornerstones by the weekend so that the quilt top will be done. I really had to push myself to keep working on this quilt, which is no reflection on the pattern - just on my fabric choices. I like the block in this pattern and maybe I'll pick some other fabrics and make a table runner with 3 or 4 blocks sometime. I also picked out my fabrics for Block 2 of Pat Sloan's Summer Soiree quilt along, and pressed and cut them. So I hope to get them assembled tomorrow morning. I mostly have to work on quilts only in the morning during the summer. I really enjoy going on Pat Sloan's Facebook page and seeing all the blocks that people are making, there are some really pretty fabric choices. Here's a link to her Facebook if you want to see some (it helps if you can log into Facebook to see more pictures - but I don't think it's necessary): www.facebook.com/groups/QuiltWithPatSloanTake care everyone!

CJ- thanks for including the link for Pat Sloans FB page. I am a “friend” of hers, so I do get to see the posts., but rarely post there. Her blocks do look much better on FB with better ability to post pics. Some really pretty color combinations. I am so anxious to see what you did with it. Let’s start with the pattern! How was it to work with? I hope you can finish it this weekend.Try to stay cool.
Ruth, congrats on getting a new book! (So did I - I ordered one that came in the mail today). Hope you enjoyed reading it. When I walk ( and this is so true for this awful humid and hot weather) I usually start out with a basic walk in mind…a 1 mile walk. I have different ways to add on distance and base it upon how I feel. today I did end up going a bit further . I always try for the minimum ( the one mile walk) and frequently if I am feeling ok and its not too hot go a bit further.
Babysat the little fellow this afternoon while Dd went to the dentist. I stayed there for dinner….so I did not get back early to work on the quilt. I did get a little bit of sewing done earlier.
Phyl, have you been able to get to your sewing room?
Sue- hope you are staying comfortable.
Ginny

Cj, i really loved looking at Pat Sloan's facebook page. There are some really great quilts there. I esp liked when I scrolled down and saw the first two patriotic fabric blocks. Another favorite was the one that had the butterfly in the middle. To me those were perfect fabrics. I hope you will get that quilt top done today as you planned
Ginny, what fun to babysit the little fellow again. It's well worth not being able to sew when you see your great family and esp the tiny babies that we have mentioned, grow too fast and don't spend much time in that newborn stage.
It's hot here today and we have a lot of smoke from fires in states west of us so no outdoor work. Dh did get that waterline to the toilet replaced. It arrived in the mail yesterday and barely fit but it's on now and will hopefully last another 40 years.

Hello Everyone Ginny - I'm glad you were able to spend time with the new baby and have dinner with family Ruth - Sorry to hear about your heat and smoke, hope you can stay inside and stay cool in part of your house. I'm glad your DH was able to get the toilet fixed. It's very hot here and humid, so I'm just trying to stay in and stay cool. I finished the Starlite quilt top and I think I managed to salvage it from being an ugly quilt I'm just glad to be done with it and my problems with it were no reflection on the pattern, since it's a good pattern. I think adding the purple border helped pull it together and drown out the gray fabric. I'd make it again in different fabrics. Picture below. I also finished my second block for the Summer Soiree quilt along, pictures of blocks 1 and 2 attached. On block 2 those corners are a very light blue it just doesn't show up very well. I wanted to try to keep light colors around the edges since I'll sash in darker fabrics when putting the quilt together. The blue floral fabric will be used in each block and I have some other fabrics that come from the same line (like the darker blue floral) that I'll use along with some I pulled from my stash. Take care everyone and have a good weekend!

CJ, once again you did a fantastic job. I really love that starlite quilt!! Yes you definitely picked the right fabric for the border. I also love how the blocks are arranged. At first you notice the middle block then realize that the corners are that same block (with the lighter purple ?lilac)I'll be happy to see the next one you do with the same pattern and the fabric you pick for it. You also did a great job on those blocks.
I did finish tote #3 and started #4 (or is it #5? I think I lost count) anyway this one is more of a market bag and is very easy and fast. I think the next one will be a filet crochet with a heart in the middle. That pattern designer also gave charts for a flower and a couple other choices so I might have to make more. One with a flower on it might be great for #3 Indy dgd who has a flower name.I should be done with the present one today for sure. I thought I'd have more of it done last night but then dh suggested we watch our recordings of a tv show we like.I also read a little bit of my book and probably have about three more pages to read but I wanted to save the ending for this evening

CJ- very very nice job on the starlite quilt!! I think you did a great job and the purple really livened up the quilt. The neat thing is that you have a talent for identifying a problem and finding a beautiful way to fix the problem so it does not look like there ever was a problem at all. Nice job. I do love the alternate color choice too. Blue and yellow is one of my favorite color combinations for a quilt. Thinking good thoughts and wishes that cooler temps come your way.
Ruth, glad you took a break from crocheting and hopefully enjoyed the show that you and Dh enjoy. Glad you are enjoying your book also. My gosh you are making such good progress on your totes!! Glad Dh was able to get that water line installed too. Yes, may it last 40 years so it is never a headache for you again.
Well ends up I went out today to buy a new toilet. The leak came back, so now I am convinced it must be the wax ring. THe plumber will be back next week to install. Got some painting done in the family room today….no time for crafting other than to stop in here and say hello. G

Ginny, I'm sorry to hear that your toilet is still leaking and you have to replace it. Dh thinks that we only replaced the one he was just working on once but I think it was more than that. I know the one downstairs has been replaced at least 3 times and probably more like 4. We have very hard water so that little water inlet gets completed blocked after awhile. Luckily toilets are not hard to replace. They're heavy though and you have to make sure you get it right onto the wax ring.We did ours ourselves. I hope your plumber has no problem and that the replacement will solve the problem.
I have two more rounds around on this market bag and it's done. I did enjoy the program we watched and also the book. Thank you

Seems silly that i did not sleep well last night, but that was the case. (I did get a nice walk in and plenty of activity). I did end up reading a bit in the middle of the night, i am reading a rather long biography of Ulysses S Grant. I hope that the new toilet fixes the problem- which I am pretty sure it will. The leak only seems to be related to that toilet, I am not worried about the plumber being able to get the toilet set properly- well that is his job and I did get a 2 piece toilet, making the setting part of it a bit easier. Right now I have a lovely toilet box sitting in my living room….but that will only be there for a few days.
Ruth, these market bags seem to be easy to make and are going quickly for you. Are you getting to the end of the bag making? And what yarn do you use for them? I would think that the cotton yarns have a sturdier feel to them and might make a better bag.
Pretty sure that Dd is coming over today for awhile. The weather app on my phone says that this is the last day of mid 80’s or higher for me. Hope I will get a chance to work on the kittens quilt. She seems to like sitting on the cut fabric…hopefully she will like the finished project.

Ginny, is the toilet leaking at the floor? I would guess that's the case since you said you thought it was the wax ring. How did you get it into your house? those things are really heavy. No a plumber wouldn't have any problem at all getting it all in place. OUrs always went right in.According to our local weather forecaster we are to have at least a full week of 90's. I'm glad your temps are going down and I hope my 90's don't travel east to you.
For most of the bags, esp these market bags, I used cotton. For two that will probably not be used for heavy things, I used acrylic. There are a lot of patterns that actually call for acrylic which surprised me because I thought that cotton was standard.Of course then they do call for acrylic, a person could definitely use cotton instead. You'd be surprised at how many people ask that question in the crochet groups. They even ask if they can substitute, for instance, RHSS for say, Mary Maxim's Maximum Value which as you know are both a #4 worsted weight acrylic.
I hope you all have a great day. See you later.Ginny, have a good time with your dd and baby.
