This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. ******************** Just heard the My Three Sons theme song. Now it’s stuck in my head. Da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da… What a way to start the day. 😄 Thanks Fred MacMurray.
Hope your day is ear worm free.

Chele, thanks for the start and lol on the new ear worm. I almost always seem to have one. Kroger has been relentlessly airing a commercial about their new delivery only service here. It was bugging me enough to look up the song and it's Finally by CeCe Peniston from the 1990s. I recognized it, but couldn't place it. "Finally, it has happened to me"... 🎶🎵 Do they use those weird cartoon people in all of their commercials? I'm already tired of them!

Kathy, Kroger ads usually have real people and I remember that song from aerobics class.
Linda, cute cartoon.

Chele, that's probably where I remembered the song from too. Our ads have these cartoonish people that look kind of like claymation.

Kathy, now that I think about it, I have seen an ad for Kroger Secret Shoppers with the claymation characters. Not a fan of the claymation but would love to be a secret shopper ensuring freshness. This one plays “Secret Agent Man” by Johnny Rivers, 1966. Whatever happened to original commercial ditties?

Chele, you would make a most excellent secret shopper. It must be cheaper to use old songs than to come up with new ones. Kroger is just building warehouses in FL and doing delivery with no actual stores. It seems like they'd have to drive a lot farther than the shoppers coming from the grocery stores, but it would be refrigerated. It saves the step of the food sitting out in the stores, so I'm not sure which is better. I'm getting tempted to try it. Must be those ads.

Thanks for the start, Chele. How are the allergies today? There don't seem to be a lot of commercials with original music anymore. I guess the oldies really are the goodies and they can't be improved upon. I haven't seen My Three Sons (so I also haven't heard the theme) in years! I didn't realize it was still on somewhere. I must have been in aerobics before you because Finally wasn't one of our regular songs. We had lots of Peabo Bryson, Patti Austin, and James Ingram and when I hear the songs on Yacht Rock, it takes me back to the pool in NW Austin where I did water aerobics for several years. Are you going to YS tomorrow? Dale did quite well at the orchard today. In addition to apples (Arya an I usually share one in the afternoon), he got yellow squash, zucchini, green beans, corn, yellow tomatoes, red potatoes, sweet potatoes, blackberries, and a baby watermelon. So, adding that to the peaches and salad I got yesterday, we should be eating very healthy this week. I'm trying to do more salads and veggies in addition to the potatoes, corn, rice, and other complex carbs I've been eating.
Kathy, we noticed that phenomenon of more building without new roads when we lived in NC. Here we have a combo of building and an increased number of tourists. This year is particularly bad because they are trying to make up for the vacation they didn't have last year. I'm glad you're having some dry weather but hope it's not bringing on too much heat. I think I saw my unidentifiable duck again yesterday hanging out with one of the female mallards. Interesting on Kroger doing warehouses instead of stores there. I guess that would be cheaper. Our Kroger ads here have the cartoon people in them. I don't remember that song in any of our commercials. The latest one has Fresh by Kool and the Gang as the music. And I have also most likely seen the same ad as Chele with Johnny Rivers' Secret Agent Man. We tend to mute commercials but every now and then I'm busy and can't get to the remote quickly enough so I do hear a few of them. Anyway, have you done an item comparison on the Kroger website to compare it to what you're currently buying?
I can relate to the cartoon, Linda. Sometimes it can't kick in fast enough, which you know all too well. How was Micki's test?
Becky, are the ant bites still bothersome? How's the dizziness? Did you have more rain? We had a surprise shower this morning. It rained pretty hard for about 10 minutes but there was nothing on the radar. It was probably only about 1/10 inch, but Dale said it rained where he was (about 20 minutes away), but nothing was showing up in the weather.
Liz, you made it to Friday. Will Gary essentially be retired by the time you go to OBX or will he have to go back for a while after vacay? I hope you have a good weekend. How is Zoe doing?
Cooking day here, complements in a big way of all the stuff Dale brought home from the orchard. Arya also has breakfasts for the next 4 days. Everything got watered this morning before it rained. I'm getting a few yellow leaves on some of the tomato plants, which is usually a sign of overwatering. I picked my first sungold tomato this morning, so they will probably be coming fast and furious now. I have tons of them on the vine.

Karen, I think Finally is aimed at Floridians since we finally have a way to shop from Kroger. I try and mute or change the channel, but sometimes I don't get to it either. I haven't compared prices, but unless they open more warehouses, it would be a long drive for them to deliver here. Jazzercise uses a lot of Top 40 songs, so there have been quite a few of them over the years. The instructors get new routines and songs every few weeks. I've noticed lots of new tourist attractions popping up in Gatlinburg, so I'm sure that's not helping the traffic either. Can't say I'm thrilled to see that since they were crowded enough already. Nice haul from the orchard!

Karen, Dale got lots of goodies from the orchard. We’ve been doing a lot of salads and I have been eating a lot more fruit. I get bored with fruit in the winter. Yes to YS tomorrow.
The allergies have been kind today but it has been raining most of the day and I haven’t been out in nature.
I am most curious about your mystery duck. Perhaps a female wood duck?

Kathy, you're right that 40 minutes from the warehouse probably wouldn't be workable. I guess it depends upon how much business they want. If things go well, a closer warehouse is definitely a possibility. There are lots of new places popping up in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge that are tourist oriented. It seems like there's at least one new one every week and more building happening. I don't know where they have the room in G'burg because they are pretty dense as it is. I plan to stay out of both cities as much as possible. Matt Gaetz is back in the news for questionable spending of campaign donations. Is it just me or does he look like Nicholson in The Shining?
I hope you bring home lots of goodies from YS, Chele. I know what you mean about fruit in the winter. We usually have apples due to proximity to the orchard, and I have grown fond of mandarins in the past couple of years. But I tend to like pink grapefruit or navel oranges one year and want nothing to do with them the next. Sometimes I'll get kiwis. I defintiely eat more fruit in the summer and have to force myself in the winter. My fresh picked blueberries have been exceptional this year. I will go out in the morning to check the plants and pick off what's ripe (usually no more than a handful) and they don't make it into the front door. I was finally able to ID my duck this afternoon. It's a domestic breed called a Pekin (not to be confused with what's served in Chinese restaurants). So, it was probably an Easter duck that someone let loose on the lake. I finally googled "domestic duck" and there it was. Apparently the only way to tell if it's a male or a female is by listening to its call: the male honks and the female quacks. So maybe my little mallard has a boyfriend and they will have mixed breed babies. Dale's grandparents owned a farm and he says cross-bred ducks were pretty common.
We had a pretty good surprise shower around dinnertime that dropped about another 1/4 inch on top of what we had this morning. No reason to water tomorrow I guess.

I wondered if some of the new G'burg attractions are on sites that burned down in the fires. Otherwise, I don't know where they're finding room either. Lol on Matt Gaetz and The Shining. I can definitely see that. Colin Jost said Gaetz looks like a caricature artist's drawing of Colin on SNL's Weekend Update. Is the Pekin duck white? I saw one of those in my neighborhood awhile back, but haven't seen him or her since. I didn't realize it was domestic.

Thanks for the start Chele. It's so funny because I woke up and it wasn't long and I thought of the show My Three Sons and I hadn't even seen your post yet. I loved that show. I used to love to listen to Johnny Rivers. Gee thanks. Now I have a new ear worm of Secret Agent Man. LOL. One of my brothers had one of Johnny River's albums...remember the vinyl ones back in the day.
Kathy I'm glad we don't have a Kroger's around since they have the cartoon ad.
Linda I love that cartoon.
Karen Arya eats apples? I gave Scooter a bite of one once and it made her sick. She used to love to eat sweet potatoes because Kenneth never ate the peeling then one night that made her sick. I don't know about that dog sometimes. She wanted her dry kibble at 4:30 this morning after I had woke up to go to the bathroom. I went back to sleep and we were having coffee and at 6:30 she wanted more kibble. She hasn't wanted dog food since. The sores from the bites still look bad more after I shower or sweat inside my socks after being outside. They don't itch anymore and I started using Aquaphor which the doctor told Kenneth to use after his skin cancer and it is helping. Our best chances of rain are next Tuesday and Wednesday. We are getting more Saharan dust this weekend. I went out in the garden today and I picked 9 cucumbers of various sizes and had to throw out 3 that looked at least 1 foot long. We had been talking about it and Kenneth does have some tomatoes still out there that don't look like they will ripen any time soon. So we decided we are going to start letting the cattle in there tonight because there is so much for them to eat in there and we will start over next spring and do things differently. Enjoy your tomatoes. What color are they?

Linda What is considered normal for a diabetic dog? It's a A1C in humans and 10 would definitely be high for a human. I was 7.6 when I was first diagnosed and I went down to 5.6 which is normal and I'm no longer considered diabetic. Best of wishes for Micki and you.
