WELCOME TO REGULAR & NEW POSTERS! This thread is full of encouragement & suggestions. New people, welcome! We encourage you to jump in. One day, one hour, one minute at a time is easier to handle than a week, etc. Lurkers, join in
Our goal is 21 days Binge Free (studies show 21 days to break old habits & start new ones!). Whether we make 21 or one, the point is to learn as we go, replace binges with other things to help us through stressful times. Some days are harder than others & we may slip; that's OK. The Binge Monster is in the shadows waiting to pounce. Hopefully this thread provides inspiration, courage, & support to become a Binge Survivor!
You may see different folks on different "Cycles." A Cycle is a 21 day block of consecutive binge-free days. Stay with us for as many cycles as you'd like.
Everyone's definition of a BINGE is different. The Oxford Dictionary defines a binge as a spree of eating and drinking. To many of us, BINGE is defined as "eating without dignity." The dictionary defines "dignity" as a calm and serious manner or style, showing suitable formality or indicating that one deserves respect. Only you can define what a binge is for you. Going over points, as long as it was done with dignity and journaled (thereforeacknowledged and "owned") isn't binging--it is up to you to decide.
SPECIAL THANKS TO LESLIE5609 for starting this challenge on the Out of Control Board, in August '02, and thanks to all who keep it going

Oh my gosh, it’s a monsoon here. I’m wondering if we’re going to set a July record for rain. According to the forecast (that’s been wrong much of the time) today is the last day of rain. I made 2 porch signs yesterday. One is for me and one’s a gift. I got a long board at Menard’s a few months ago. DH cut it in half and I painted it a couple weeks ago. Fun, and a fraction of the price of a nice one at a craft show or at a store.
Meg, have a wonderful visit with your friends! I try to remember that it’s about the people and not the food, but that doesn’t always work. I also try to keep in mind the way my body feels after too much sugar or fatty food. Again, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.
Nancy, so glad you like the new aide. I bet DH will come around. How is Janet faring in her new home?
Lori, thanks for starting us yesterday. I didn’t even open my ipad before my early bike ride and work.
Kathy, I hope you’re doing well.

Happy Scale showing 137.7 moving average this week vs 138 last week, so it's slow go reversing last week when Steve and Leila were here. He just texted that they're coming back for another week before leaving for Hawaii. This will be a good opportunity to isolate the lunches but stay on track the rest of the days. Also tomorrow is my birthday. We've decided to get take out from Outback - I'm going to get two lobster tails with their mac and cheese for a side which is my absolute favorite - I think 860 calories or something for the side but after all, it's my birthday, right? May even split the cheesecake if DH agrees. He's getting the filet mignon with one lobster tail. This meal will once again be isolated while tracking the rest of the day. And next Friday my friend's taking me out to lunch for a belated birthday, so heaven help me on next Saturday's happy scale. Oh well, I'm entitled, right?
The husband of a very close friend here has been extremely fine and active until about a year ago when he started, for no apparent reason, to have fluid in the lungs. A few days ago he went on hospice and passed away yesterday. So sad. And she doesn't drive, so it's going to be challenging. I hope she doesn't move to be near her son but that sounds like a possibility. I've always been told that we should wait a year after the death of a spouse to make a decision about where to or not to move. We haven't had that discussion yet.
Jan - Janet and her son are still in the rented apartment. She's been traveling an hour and 5 minutes to an aide job for 5 hours work (using 1/4 tank gas). It was all she could find until just this weekend when she starts working for a local agency which will eliminate the travel. During the week she'll stay with the other job until the new place can fill out her schedule. Once she can count on a full time job, they'll go house hunting. Michael's doing her loan and that was his suggestion.
