Good morning!
I’m working (As in training) with the new caregiver/helper, and I’m worn out! She works hard, learns quickly and may turn out to be wonderful. hb seems confused by her presence but is gradually getting used to having her here.
It’s been too hot and too smokey. Very poor air quality. T storms without rain. The results are on the map on the “inciweb” site. Last night we had a short rainstorm along with lots of lightning strikes.

Sue, it sounds like your new caregiver is working out and is amenable to learning what you want her to do and how to do it. Same here with the temps and smoke.
Today I so far have just cleared up my upstairs crocheting area and untangled some yarn. No actual crocheting yet. And of course the usual tasks. It's still hot but with the a/c and fans it's ok.
Looks pretty quiet in here so will check back later

Ginny, it's good to hear that your son surprised you and cleaned out and organized the shed. Would he like to come over and do the same for my garage . yes there are some people that are going to be happy with the things you donate. And you are right about Phyl, I've "known" her for years on the WW board and she definitely has a good heart!

Sue, so good to hear from you ! Glad to hear that your new caregiver is working out well, In time your Dh will get used to her as she becomes more of a part of his routine. I pray that she does turn out to be wonderful for both of you. the fires in the west have caused poor air quality for a large part of the country. Hope some much needed rain comes to the west, enough to put the fires out.
Ruth, untangling some yarn counts….and sure takes a lot of patience. Hope cooler temps are headed your way.
busy day today….and the plumber came and installed the new toilet. In the process the floor tiles got disrupted so now I have to regrout. the fun never ends.
Trying to work my way through the quilt pattern. I have to cut another piece ( will do that now) and then I think I have everything cut. CJ had mentioned some confusion over how the directions are presented, which I agree with. Its not horrible….. guess you just have to get the hang of it.
Cooler temps here which I am SO thankful for. Just turned off the AC and opened the windows. Feels so nice to have the open windows. Ginny

I can't edit on this laptop so had to make a whole new post. Anyway, I did get that tote bag that you're talking about done night before last and have started actually on three new ones. I have to wait for yarn to be delivered before I can finish the one for dh. The other one is one to use up some of my cotton yarn and the third is another of those "Sweet Stripes" ombre totes but this one in in what they call deep teal.

Oh there you are, Ginny. WE must have been typing at the same time. I'm sorry that your tiles got disrupted. All these things we have to do as homeowners are really a pain. I guess there are some benefits in home ownership too but the maintenance makes you wonder. I'm really not ready to rent though and I doubt any of the rest of you are either. Now if only I could afford a handyman...hahahaha. There's a downside to that too, of course. You would have to supervise and make sure things were done right

Well, I just watched a YouTube on what I have to do to regrout the floor. Thankfully I don’t live in a really big house, and my bathroom is pretty small so it’s not that big a job. I’ll figure it out somehow. I also figured out what she meant in the quilting directions and have the next step pinned and ready to take to the machine tomorrow. I believe my batting is supposed to arrive tomorrow as it did not arrive today. Between my son and myself we have a fairly large pile going out to be donated tomorrow. Honestly some of what’s going out is also my youngest daughters, as I told her I would be having a donation pick up in a week. I’ll take a quick look tomorrow morning and see if I can find anything else that I can readily get rid of.
Ruth I’m glad you’ve made some good headway on those tote bags! What a pretty pattern it is. I bet you that deep teal bag looks good such a lovely.color. I’m going to read for a while and see if I can get comfortable and fall asleep. Sleep well everyone!

Hello Everyone Sue - I'm glad your new helper is working out so far. I hope your DH will get used to her. Sorry to hear about your smoky conditions. Ruth - I'm glad you finished another tote bag. I would like a handyman too, but I'd be so worried about the work getting done right so I didn't have to have it done again, it wouldn't be worth it for me Ginny - Glad you were able to find info on the regrouting, hope that works out. And I'm happy you figured out the pattern and are making progress. I found I just had to read through those patterns 3 or 4, or more , times to get it through my head what they meant. Phyl - I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow and that you are feeling better. Yesterday was warm and we had a brief hail storm, which was fortunately right after my lawn guys finished my yard. Today is sunny, but cooler and less humid so I have the windows open and I'm just using fans and no AC. I finished the next block for Pat Sloan's quilt along. I'm pretty happy with them, but it's difficult choosing the fabrics sometimes, since I have about 6 pieces from the same fabric line and then I added some of my own. Some quilters are only using 3 or 4 fabrics, and I almost wish I was doing that. I also pulled out some of my fabric stash to see if there is something I'd like to work on next. I've been wanting to try putting special borders on quilt panels, so I may try something like that next. And I still need to get working on machine quilting those tops. Hope you are all having nice weather and getting to do some crafting. Take care!

Congraulations, Ginny, on getting the quilt all pinned and ready to sew. Next comes batting, backing then quilting it, right? Then binding. Or do you put a border around it before the batting and backing?
CJ, I didn't see your post until I had sent this one so came back to edit. I'm glad the hail waited until your lawn guy was done and also that it cooled down enough to allow you to open windows. You seem to be making a lot of progress with your quilting. I know you're happy to see some of that fabric stash being used.
not much going on with me. Dh made his own breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage and tator tots so I did the cleaning up. Personally, I eat oatmeal with fruit of some kind and a little kefir every morning (or what I call morning) I don't like a heavy breakfast. Now I think I might do a tiny bit of craft material organizing.
Have a morbid question but do any of you have a life alert type thing that you can use in case you get very sick or hurt and are unable to access your phone? Half the time I don't even know where my phones are or if either is charged

Ruth, after Dh passed…..well my kids bought me an Apple Watch. (My phone is an apple). That can be set for alerts for high/low pulse, and the more advanced ones can monitor more cardiac activity. Of course the watch and phone must be charged. (I am sure the life alert has a long life battery). Anyway, once I get on and the Apple Watch on, it acts like a phone and I can make any calls I need (emergency calls or calls to my kids). They felt that was a good alternative for me. It does also enable them (especially DD#1) to call me anytime and my phone is always with me. Its a pain in the neck sometimes, but I have gotten used to it. Not a morbid question at all. You are just being practical. My dh used to be into the same sort of breakfast your Dh made. My breakfasts are more like yours…..ha ha ha. And you are right on the order- quilt top, border, batting, backing (quilting if you are going to do that) and then binding.
CJ- what a great idea to work on some quilt panels. (They are fun and its neat to figure out how you want to finish them off with cute borders). So glad you were able to enjoy open windows and turn the AC off. Hope that you can also do that today. Are you also getting some of the haze from the fires out west? Perhaps you would be better off limiting your use of fabrics per block to 3 or 4 (as others have done as you mentioned). But then alternate within the fabric line additional fabrics. It would still look coordinated….with some variety. Yes fabric selection is a challenge- I understand!
Last night I actually made some sense of the pattern and got the center pinned together. (Sort of an a-ha moment!). Now I just have that to sew. I will have to cut one more piece of sashing, there is a mistake on the directions regarding that. That is easy to correct…..totally agree with what CJ said about it taking a few reads to get the hang of these directions but it all came together in my mind once I got to the quilt top assembly step. got a text that the batting is arriving today.
Got my friend and her husband coming over this evening for a fire and chat. This weekend I am attending a memorial service for my SIL who passed a year ago in early July. Not looking forward to this at all. I am attending out of respect for my DH and my kids who still sometimes see their cousins. gotta be honest, it sounds like a spreader event to me. My BIL is overly impressed with himself and has from what I can see, turned this into quite the social event. Lord give me grace (I am going to need it!) and keep me safe.
Phyl- hoping you get good answers from the doctors office.
Sue- I am so optimistic about your new caregiver!!! Very happy for you and Dh.
Ginny

I heard that Apple Watches do all those things and in fact a new doctor where we go for our health maintenance showed us on hers how the EKG function works. I won't be getting one though because they are way too expensive. It's great that your children pitched in and got you one. That's the only way I'd have one. I can't even use my Fitbit anymore because the strap on one side keeps breaking. I tried their site for replacement but their site is about impossible to navigate and I never did find where you are supposed to be able to get a new band from them.I bought some online but they keep breaking too.
I have to go soon and pickup a grocery order. They wanted to substitute on two items and luckily I saw the email on time because I didn't like at all what they subsituted and they were also out of stock on some items that we wanted when we made our list last night. I think we may have to start going into the store. I would take my crocheting with me to work on while I wait but the wait time is very short so probably won't bother. Next week we have to go get dh's driver's license renewed and I'll definitely take my crocheting there.
I feel for you, Ginny, on having to attend that memorial service. As you said, we often do those things just out of respect to someone and not necessarily the person who is being memorialized or their immediate family.Hopefully you will be able to just stay a short time, let them know you were there, and because of the number of people, will be able to leave and have that go unnoticed.

It didn't take much time at all to get the pickup order and I also found out that those things they said were not in stock and they wanted to make a subsitution ended up being in stock after all which they never told me but they were in the bags when I got home. The one item they just didn't have the number of cans that I ordered but all and all it was fine. I got all the perishables put away and remembered that I forgot to put a couple things I wanted on the list but they are things I can live without. now I'm home and plan to do nothing the rest of the day...of course crocheting will be done.

I could tell he was giving me more(taking longer) after wards he talked to me, he did say he gave me a lot more.he must have read my chiro's notes. then he walked me to the lobby to make sure I would get there. I LOVE,LOVE,THIS DOCTOR.he only works one day a week, must be nice, you have to make an appointment way a head of time to get into him.
yesterday I WAS MOVING SLOW,TOOK 2 NAPS,DID NOT SLEEP GOOD THURSDAY NIGHT.I was surprised I slept as good as I DID.
ok,my lab work numbers came back great.it is hepatic steatosis. fatty tissue in the liver and can go to other places.yes it has to do with being over weight. why can't they come up with a vaccine so people do not get fat?lol
RUTH sis died in 2013.she had one of those tags, but could not wear it when she left the house. I had a older quilting friend, in a care unit. she had the kind when she left she the place still could wear it and call for help. they have improved them a lot. you get one make sure you can wear it anywhere and get help.
oh I will have cat scan THURSDAY.there is something in the gallbladder area region which could not be adequately seen by the ultrasound.my gb and apendicts has been gone since 65,wonder could it just be scar tissue? no eating 4 hours before the scan ,can drink most anything. I want which will be water.wonder what a beer drinker would do when he hears those words. my dad was a beer drinker.
talked to the neighbor her dd is in 6 years of collage, has 2-3 classes to finish .
her music major is done. this girl is going places.
so I better get out the music quilt I started about 6 years ago, also finish the sport one I started for Nathan at age 7- 8 he will be 15 this year.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well Ruth - I have never used one of those Life Alert things, or known anyone who did, but I think they would be good. I try to keep my cell phone with me wherever I am in the house, but I'm not always good at it. I'm glad that your grocery order worked out. Ginny - I'm glad the pattern is working out for you. Hope you enjoyed the fireside chat with friends. Phyl - I'm glad you are happy with this doctor and I hope the rest of the tests go well. The weather has been nice but getting hotter and humid this coming week. I pulled out my heavy duty sewing machine today and cleaned it, oiled it, and changed the needle. Then I wound 4 bobbins for the 4 quilts I have ready to machine quilt and hope to get them done in a few days. Then I can bind them - my favorite part Take care everyone and have a good weekend!
